I usually play Durge as an 8 INT bard, even though canonically Durge is described as being an intelligent mastermind… under the assumption that Orin’s lobotomy also tragically slashed his brilliant mind. So whether I have him ally with the ogres in the ruined village or not, I always make sure Lump dies so Durge can have his flowers for algernon moment when he puts the crown on and it restores a bit of his mind. I always have that as a roleplaying turning point for him, when he finally starts to see fully what the reality of his situation is, for good or for ill.

Anyway, poor Durge, my sweet mass-murdering pookie. Like eighteen months later and I am still 1000% normal about you!

Very specific headcannons for this version of Astarion and my durge, Tempest.

Astarion:

Warlock with the first vampire as his patron (mod on nexusmods :3)

Lawful Evil

After being kidnapped and escaping the nautiloid he was offered a way to break free from Cazador. By devoting himself to the great old vampire instead. It gives him the powers of a true vampire except he is still bound to Cazador until he kills him and takes his place. After agreeing to serve the first vampire and getting his powers, his eyes started to glow.

Was attached to Tempest immediately through their shared bloodlust. Turned into something deeper over time.

Constant power struggle/dynamic between the two. They both want to be on top lol

Loves her completely and obsessively. Never leaves her side.

Spoils her rotten with gifts he steals while on their journey

Tempest:

Absolutely hated Astarions guts at first and wanted to kill him.

Started to have feelings after he showed support and encouragement to her more unorthodox habits.

Knows exactly how to turn him into a whimpering mess, and vice versa.

Fully intent on becoming a vampire as well someday. Has already asked Astarion multiple times.

Chaotic Neutral

The only person Astarion will ever be soft around

Wears all the cute jewellery Astarion finds for her during their travels

He makes her clothes

Completely head over heels for her vamp and does not want any other partners.

A Dark Urge & Astarion romance makes sooo much sense.

I just imagine a good-aligned Dark Urge relating to Astarion’s monster-hood. Like, they’re both trying to gain freedom from their circumstances -- the circumstances which make them monsters. I can imagine the Dark Urge empathizing with Astarion’s blood lust, perhaps that being the reason they allow the bite to happen in the first place. So many great RP possibilities. So excited for August 3rd!

The sun has settled a long time ago - it was the middle of the night. Other than occasional hoots from owls and symphony of crickets, not many sounds could be heard. Most people in the camp were deep in slumber... But Durge was restless. His thoughts were singing murder again, supplying him with images of all of his companions in a bloody mess of viscera. Panting heavily, he made his way over to the tent that was the most familiar to him, other than his own - Astarion's. Ignoring any manners he might have when his mind was clear, he just tore the tent open, his bloody red eyes searching for the pale elf as his body shook violently.

Astarion had been awake, sitting up on his bedroll, reading intently under the gentle glow of candlelight. His tent flaps were closed so as not to disturb his other companions. Though he was so absorbed in his reading, he failed to hear footsteps quickly approaching his tent until a large shadow blocked his only source of light.

Quickly glancing upwards, Astarion's crimson gaze landed on Durge, who is looking a bit worse for wear. The large Dragonborn is panting heavily and trembling, and noticing this, Astarion swiftly gets up, slightly on guard before speaking out, "Durge— is... everything alright?"
