and like. normally i think king adaptations are the horror movies most suited for fIanagan's style- i don't personally like him but he really Gets king so would be happy to see him get a handful of those properties, and wow 'carrie' is not one of them. a carrie adaptation is successful if it leaves its audience feeling very complicit and very gross, yeah let's give it to the guy who's most bent on saccharine christian monologues

#like giving him the dark tower makes sense to me #i'd love to see each book go to a different director with their own take on king but his directing style i think would really work #for something like drawing of the three #i don't even mind that they're giving him another exorcist spinoff/remake for that same reason #like it sucks but to be fair it is his schtick #that said? those are like. the ONLY two properties he should be getting rn #to double down on the thing i said about vhs- if you're famous enough that you're being offered every single horror property #it becomes your job to pass some of those bucks on to new people who might not have a chance otherwise #i think maybe you become the stephen king bad guy you're always harping on about if you don't #stephen king

Man I just finished Babel and I was excited to read discussions online because there's so much going on in it with so many little things and just....angry white people. Everywhere. Truly a dead dove moment.

#the “you can't trust white people” theme might be a little like...aggressive but gosh you are not wrong #rf kuang #it was such a good depiction imo #it felt so much like explaining to white (or sometimes black) people what the problem is #especially felt like explaining being queer to straight people #i feel like a lot of people have at least a vague intellectual understanding of racism even if they don't see the racism #babel an arcane history #babel or the necessity of violence #also she captured a fair bit of mixed race and chinese diaspora feelings #also also i can see the relationship to the secret history and the fact that this is a rebuttal of dark academia while being dark academia #also realizing i dislike dark academia tbh #just...the ye olde university feeling is not my style #hence i went to engineering school where it had a je ne sais quois that i think is widespread neurodivergence #the good old boys clubs just do not interest me and i cannot really care about their lifestyles #it's not bad mind you it's just not for me #babel however is the exception that made me realize i dislike dark academia #hated the cloisters #got a rec for the secret history and had negative interest in that #i really want more and better depictions of engineering school and like...any similar experiences to what i had #they just do things like the social network where it's still a rich kid good old boys club but now with “nerds” who are just business majors #like the big tech guys of the modern era are primarily business guys not like...building computers in their basement #give me aome barely functional people who lean heavily into being weird once they go to school and they have hijinks like #updating archlinux and giving the other people shots if you get xyz system working again #first to get x11 back? #Doodles #Villainsona #Just Desserts #A quick distraction-foray into a Winx style since I'd gotten the Enchantix itch for a second haha #Other than making her wings doubled I really didn't know how to make her Classic design more Winx-like lol #I was going more for the first transformation rather than Enchantix and I mean - Techna is covered from head to toe so it's not Out of style #I am unabashedly biased towards her Classic design lol ♪#Not having a fixed design for her TVAU outfit did at least encourage me to try Something a bit different for an Evil Enchantix at least #(Gods now I'm just imagining Dark Bloom Enchantic?? Yo - thankfully some artists have given their interpretations :D)#Anyway tho lol - the bottom half of her design seems to be what always trips me up #At least for Enchantix there's kind of the excuse that she needs the fairy vine-shoes thing - she normally wears regular shoes haha #All that said I think the Winx style doesn't completely suit her anyhow :0 She's not really meant to have such stylistic curves haha #All the more reason to return to WOY! It's fun :D #Two semi-canon outfits - the first one much moreso than the second since that's her self-designed TVAU outfit!#To be fair Kaiein rejected that one and not me lol probably on account of the cape muddling her silhouette #No Capes! No matter how cute she looks in them haha #And then the second (especially happy with her expression on that one hehe :3c Watch out) being from when she cornered Cherry Shortcake!#I was incredibly correct about her wings at that point - I think both versions having their own appearances is very good #Denoting influence and emotions and points of time - kind of like her wings and Evil Time in Classic!#The Staff looks so tiny in this style as well haha ♪#And then the last three! More rejects but mostly just done for funsies anyway haha #I still prefer Charm in more fantasty-adjacent fashion but she's cute no matter what so a bit of semi-modern is fine every once in a while #Spooky mask leaves some mystery and fear of the unknown lol #More ink themes - it suffers from the same problem as her drip-modified outfit just not a strong silhouette! I think it's a neat pose tho #And finally trying to find something that would work well with the wings - they can appear pretty much anywhere on her back so #It can be kinda hard to have a definitive ''No matter where they sprout from this look won't clash''#A loose top with a tube top underneath is cute tho :) Might be willing to give a slightly more thematic version pulled into the JD style #And so help me I will find a proper top-hem style for her pants! Gosh!

I will forever be mad about Matt and Mello dying.

Also just imagine how awesome it would have been if, when Light opens the door of the warehouse and wants to escape from the warehouse, Mello and Matt are standing there, outside of the warehouse and get shown/revealed the moment Light opens the door, aiming their guns at him, Mello wearing his leather coat with feathers as well as his sunglasses and taking a bite of his chocolate bar while Matt is calmly smoking a cigarette while also aiming at Light with his gun and then you hear Near in the background telling Light that it's over.

#I can picture this so vividly for some reason #in the death note art style which was used in the anime and with their english voices and all #Unpopular opinion but Scene and emo music from the early 2000s suits to Mello and writing Death Note related stuff works best with this #music too #someone take the scene/emo playlists away from me #I just rediscovered those songs #They make me so happy #I've listened to them during my early teenage years #I spend a fair amount of my early teenage years with emos and weebs so that probably explains it #It was a super dark time of my life and I wouldn't ever want to go back but the songs and the scene/emo aesthetic gives me so much comfort #Death Note and Bsd will forever have a special and warm place in my heart #Matt and Mello then sleep at Nears place that day; comforting him and each other because what they went through was hell and what Near #witnessed in that warehouse was awful. To strangers he might seem as cold as always but Matt and Mello know how shaken up the other is #They realized it once they saw that Near was dissocating heavily; staring holes in the air and being semi verbal for the rest of the evenin #They spend the evening eating pizza; eating chocolate and Near plays with his toys; stims and actually seeks pressure hugs from one of them #Can be seen as Matt/Mello with Near as their friend or as Matt/Mello/Near #They don't chat a lot about what happened until literal days or weeks later #Might write a single post about it but idk if I want to upload any other drabbles and headcanons besides BSD ones on here #not bsd related #death note #death note mello #death note near #death note light #death note light yagami #death note matt #death note hc #death note headcanons #death note anime #death note manga #headcanon

I think what might be my problem is that I refuse to accept the books as canon which makes them a bit difficult to read then...
