Yes, ~Megara & Aiko~ back-to-back as a tribute to the blossoming new relationship. (how cute that these are the two LAST EVER entrants for both of those countries ♥). Star-crossed pansexuals forever tethered side-by-side in this ranked afterlife. THIS is how you do serendipitous running orders, Christer, fucking take notes. (Another fragment of my neurodivergent soul destoyed when he decided to put Megara 10th in the r/o and make 11:11 the 12th overall song to be performed that night).

But Aiko and Megara also represent the duality of modern day NQs. While Aiko delivered a good vocal, glammed-up to a 7.5/10 and still died (lol though luck fighting those bookmakers, girl), Kenzie delivered an ABSOLUTELY ROTTEN VOCAL, downgraded to a 7.5/10 and logically died because it's San Fucking Marino. 😍

Like, idk how to break it to you, but for once, San Marino actually earned the Ironic Standom label. Let's start with the fact that they're repped by my fave act from last year's Benifest with a song about how unfairly robbed "Arcadia" was. ♥

Nusa Derenda's son, who was part of a three-himbot boyband and was absolutely HORRIBLE (the other two did ALL of the lifting ♥), only for them to be completely omited from the first recap of the night (WILL THE BULLYING OF SLOVENIA EVER END?!)

Loredana Bertè, Mia Martini's estranged blue-haired sister who crossed over from San Remo for the sole purpose of terrorizing her ex-husband Björn Borg, and performed in her usual style: dressed as a schoolgirl (she's over 70 btw), hands in her pockets, fully disassociated, sounding like she was halfway through her fourth bottle of Disaronno.

How is ANY of this a waking reality?! Megara beating Loredana last-minute was the icing on the cake because while the notion of Pazza is funny enough (it rhymes "artifice" with "toothpaste" <3), Megara at least had... a concept? an Idea? A song?

And then we got to the contest itself. The preview comes in and has THE EXACT SAME IMPACT ON ME as Bambie's did in the first semi - STOP ALL THE PRESSES, I WANT TO SEE THIS IN FULL IDGAF ABOUT ANY OF THE OTHERS OR MY PERSONAL HEALTH AND RESPONSIBLIITIES!!!! you know, the usual hinged eurofan stuff.

When we finally got to the full live omg ♥ A fantastic act completely PULVERIZED into death by Kenzie's inability to perform ♥ From actually WALKING OFF THE SCREEN

to having her own small Emily Roberts moment in the second chorus

Shittastic. it worked because, thankfully, the song WAS fodder to begin with (no losses there) and the staging -conceptually at least- was visionary. This is probably the best San Marino have ever staged.

This (metaphorical) shit was masterfully staged and Kenzy still served LOOKS AND ENERGY despite failing at everything else.

If you're going to be hopeless, then be hilariously bad at giving hope, is what I say.

11:11 was pure chaos on a black-and-pink demon barber pole, which for experimental art rock serving as a middle finger to Spain's lack of taste, is a pretty good medium of expression. The way Megara were guaranteed double digit points because the Mericones (this year's honorary name for Cigarillos/Spanish Fags btw..x) were casting votes in this semi (♥) allowed them to give zero fucks. ♥

Of course, if Megara (and specifically Kenzie) had been in any way competent, then 11:11 could have qualified with that act, and that would have been ICONIC. But they weren't and we missed out on another SF2 epic turnaround, which is probably why I'm not ranking them amongst the very good entries this year. (also, if I did I'd be compelled to rank 'em 11th and LOL @ bumping Aiko up to 12th place). I'm accepting of 11:11's shortcomings, but also acknowledge that it has them. The quality standards were surprisingly high this year, and I enjoy the remaining entries sufficiently that I don't need to cling to Megara as hard as I normally would. Fun filler it is, and that's the perfect endpoint for San Marino's journey.

YEONJUN: I think this song really highlights every one of our voices and shows off what we’re good at. The way the chorus repeats is catchy so I think people will really like it.

BEOMGYU: Make sure to pay attention to the catchy melody and the synths. Just one listen and you won’t be able to get it out of your head!

TAEHYUN: This song’s about young people dealing with the real world. It’s not dreamlike or paradise. Still, I think a lot of people will relate to the idea of knowing what you want right now and pursuing that. 

HUENINGKAI: This song’s all about boys leaving paradise to take on the real world. The longing in our vocals worked really well with the beat and the vibe.

SOOBIN: Everything’s great about this song, including the choreography. There’s several different versions and I hope you listen to them all.

YEONJUN: Everything about this song, from the beat to the singing and dancing, is so cool and impactful. It really gives you a sense of how TOMORROW X TOGETHER has a dandy vibe but a sexy vibe at the same time. It’s all of our favorites!

BEOMGYU: The instant I heard this song, I thought, “This is the one.” It’s an amazing song, and it makes you feel confident and strong.

TAEHYUN: This song’s just great from start to finish. You’ll feel like the star of your own movie when you hear it!

HUENINGKAI: This is a really impactful song. The music and choreography both turned out really cool. I feel a rush of confidence whenever I dance to this song with the other members.

HANRORO - “Let Me Love My Youth”

SOOBIN: HANRORO wrote my favorite song off our new album, “Skipping Stones,” and this is the song I first found out about her through. It’s a beautiful, warm-hearted song. I hope MOA can stand strong, just like it says in this song.

YEONJUN: I’ve been really into Japanese city pop lately, so this has been my go-to song. It makes me feel chill and slip into my memories anytime I listen to it.

BEOMGYU: This was on the soundtrack to a movie I saw recently. I’m recommending this because the vocals and whole sound are fantastic!

Kisaragi attention - JIN

Unit: MORE MORE JUMP! Singers: MMJ + Rin

First of all, I gotta say that if I COULD add all kagepro songs in the game, I would. The fact that we have an idol character in the series but no MMJ covers is a crime and that's why I'm adding this song.

Haruka, Shizuku, and Airi have all shown hesitation toward being an idol in the main story. One because of the public attention not being what they wanted out of it (Airi), and another because they don't feel like they deserve to be called an idol anymore (Haruka and Shizuku). To be fair, at this point Kisaragi attention seems a little out of character, but the three of them all experienced a lot of hesitation toward their occupations and got over it. I also think Minori (and MMJ Rin) embody the clumsy and insecure nature of the MC in the song.

Dream-eating monochrome baku - Nem

Unit: Wonderlands x Showtime Singers: Rui, Tsukasa, Len

Hmm remember what I said last time about not wanting to repeat the same pairings over and over again-

I couldn't NOT give this song to these three. I think the vibe of the song fits them so well and Rui especially would sound good in the chorus. Also I want to hear the little 'oh!'s in the song LMAO. They already added it's a wonderful cat life so... I vote for this one too :D

A happy death - Kikuo

Unit: Nightcord at 25:00 Singers: Kanade, Mafuyu, (+ Miku)

I think people forget how pretty this song is since it gets overshadowed by Kikuo's other works, but I think it deserves a spot on here. (Not that it isn't a popular song of course but it's just not the first song people think of when they think of Kikuo.)

Kanade's character and her whole 'wanting to save people with her music' somewhat falls into place with the song. 'Saving' is being represented by killing the 'you' in the song, which is definitely not what we're trying to do-

But if we really want to go into the nitty gritty, we can say that we are saving Mafuyu by killing the 'good girl' persona she is putting up. Let's not take the song too literally haha.

(+ Kanade would sound nice singing this song.)

Sugar Guitar - Police Piccadilly

Unit: Leo/Need Singers: L/N + Len

The sound fits well since its instrumental is pretty straightforward for bands. The theme of 'trying to find what you want to do in the future and going for it' fits well since L/N is still trying to find their sound and identity and what they want their band to be (I mean, 'resonating with you' was literally all about what they wanted to do in the future).

Also, it's a bop.

(I must add that there is no official translation of the title but I think most people know the song as 'Wanting To Die In My Teens, Wanting To Kill In My Twenties') Unit: Nightcord at 25:00 Singers: Mizuki, Mafuyu, KAITO

I wanted to add in a Nashimoto-P song but I think most of them fall in a genre that don't line up with the game. It was either this one or AaAaAaAAaAaAAa, but after Mafuyu's character development on JP, I think this one fits better.

The N25 crew have all grown to a point where they can do a little reflection on themselves. And as we all know

Unit: VIVID BAD SQUAD Singers: Akito & Toya

Hmmm I love this song sm. The main reason I put this song with VBS is because of how it sounds. I noticed a lot of VBS' songs are more rhythmic...? In nature? I'm not sure how to describe it because I never took music classes (all the terminology is above me).

The themes in the song are what lead me to giving it to the good ol' BAD DOGS with no vocaloids added into the mix. From what I'm getting, the MC despises the life they've been living and they feel like they're stuck in a loop of breaking, fixing, and masking themselves. They start to hate the person they're becoming. I think they end up leading a life of anger and spite, but instead find their salvation (the 'you' in the song) which is probably what the 'corruption' in the title refers to.

The song is pretty hard to interpret considering that the story is told from the MC's perspective, but nevertheless, I think it has enough tie-ins with Akito and Toya that I gave it to them.

Toya needed an escape from his home-life which stemmed from spite and in turn brought him to Akito. Akito needed something to help fulfill his desire to be worth something more which brought him to music (and to Toya).

Now sidenote: the themes are also N25 themes, but I don't know how many other people have noticed this but Toya's and Mafuyu's stories are incredibly similar. They would literally be in the same position storywise if it wasn't for the fact that Toya had the Tenmas to open his eyes earlier on in his life.

But that's a whole different tangent for a different day OOP

Yuukei Yesterday - JIN

Unit: MORE MORE JUMP! Singers: Minori, Haruka, Miku

FINE. ANOTHER KAGEPRO SONG FOR MMJ. SUE ME! (Don't)

Yuukei yesterday is just so upbeat and wholesome. I think it fits with Minori's awkwardness when interacting with Haruka even if she isn't a tsundere like the MC of the song. I think her vocals would be really cute in the chorus ueueue

Common world domination - Pinocchio-P

Unit: Wonderlands x Showtime Singers: WxS + Rin

I had to double check if this song was in the game or not. I think it could work nicely as a WxS cover since the song is so nonsensical and upbeat. I think any of the WxS members could sound great taking the lead in this song.

But despite that I also think they could also just add the original in the game as a VIRTUAL SINGER song instead of a unit cover :0

My discovery - Seeeeecun

Unit: VIVID BAD SQUAD Singers: VBS + KAITO

With 'Light up the fire' being... a thing... and Taiga essentially saying all their efforts are going to waste since it's impossible for them to surpass RAD WEEKEND I think adding this song could be interesting.

From what I'm getting, the MC is reflecting on how useless they've become with their future amounting to nothing despite their best efforts. They see themselves as a failure and see their past confidence as nothing but a falsely inflated ego.

I really wanted to add this producer to the list because I think their music is very interesting. I think the word for what they add is 'dissonance'? Anyway, go take a look if you've got time :D

Ice dance takes:

The Taschlers were actually the most robbed team at Nepela, because their SS is top notch, they skated with great speed attack, and skated clean.

Z/K have a stronger MJ RD than L/L. Much love to Lala, but that music edit is a MESS, sometimes there's literally no music, they used barely any of the Thriller chorus, a million uber distracting sound effects. Z/K's isn't extraordinary but it functions, better allows for them to perform.

On the other hand Z/K's BatB is a huge miss, juniorish and also sort of generic and aimless. L/L's FD is so lovely, the first half is maybe a little sedate? But grows so much by the end, love the stationary lift variation, and the way they move and the pictures they make is just ugh gorgeous! Would have given them the PCS edge to medal over Z/K, with D/S obviously banished far from the podium lol.

G/Pa have a nice FD, they looked undertrained at Lombardia, hope they've been able to train well when they show up at SA. C/P have my favorite set of programs two seasons in a row, and they looked really good! I'm worried about if I.AM has the push for them.

For the most part, it looks like I or @macaroni-rascal wrote these takes LOL

Regarding Taschlers - I'm definitely a fan of their power and speed, I do have issues with their posture and underefinment though and I dislike their material this season. They (mostly her) generate speed by being in an angle to the ice and it's something that I personally find bothering.

Agree on Z/K's MJ RD being stronger than L/L's. Currently, Thriller is a miss for me for all the reasons you mentioned and I pray they will revamp it and the music edit until Skate America. I also told @macaroni-rascal that I think G/P(2) and CPom are at a risk since Z/K's RD has the potential to be a crowd favorite and in a place like US Championships sometimes it's all that matters. I also agree regarding Z/K's BoB FD being very bad, it's fake Disney drama in a super junior way with choreography that doesn't really do anything. A huge miss for me, especially compared to L/L's FD that when skated clean I can see it being successful.

G/P(2) looked undercooked in their challenger but their scoring was way more severe. Michael fell on the twizzles in the FD and they scored less than a 100, nepotism team did the same and scored 111 - in what world?! G/P(2) are way superior in every aspect (perhaps except for lifts, and that's only because in nepotism team he's used to carrying her around 99% of the skate). I liked G/P(2)'s FD, I think they have tons of interesting moments in it (perhaps too much for this point in the season and it might benefit from some editing) and I look forward to seeing it develop.

CPom do have one of the strongest pair of programs for the second year in a row and they've been looking really good. Will it be enough I'm not sure given the insane push for Igor's team and G/P(2) being favored by the judges compared to them. They are in for a massive fight that's for sure.

I also like W/L's RD - it's one of the better 80s RDs and they skated it today much better than a month and a half ago when they debuted it. I do have to say that so far most of the 80s RDs have been a huge dud.

There’s a German song called Wenn du mich lässt (If you let me) by LEA which reminds me of Nigel and Thomas. It's a song about promising to love someone no matter what, and the line “for me, your chaos is art” is something I could see Nigel saying to Thomas about his poetry. There's also the first line of the chorus - "I will love you even if you can't love yourself right now" which I think fits them quite well given Thomas's whole theme of dying alone and unloved and them both probably struggling with the way they look (wound/plague sores).
