“What’s it to you? Jealous?” Tommy taunts. Something must show in Monty’s face, because Tommy’ eyes light up with interest. “You are. The question is, of him? Or me?”

“I don’t even know him,” Monty defends weakly.

“Oh that is so cute,” Tommy coos. “You’ve got a crush. Boy, you really do have a thing for tennis players, don’t you?”

“I never had a crush on you, Tommy,” Monty says, and it cuts because it’s true. “You’re the one who came after me, remember?”

Part 3 finally here! I’ve gotta be honest, I struggled with this one. It’s probably the characters that stray furthest from their canon counterparts, and I’m still not 100% sure about Esther’s lore here, so lmk what you think.

throwing my life to the wolves or the ocean rocks: CatCrow pirate AU

“Well hello there, little bird,” he purrs, running his calloused fingertips along Monty’s prominent collarbone. His touch is almost more cruel for the gentleness of it. At least the other men did not hide behind pretense.

Monty jerks away. He knows better, he really does. But the little spark in him has caught kindling, and his chest is filling with both smoke and rage.

The golden-eyed man laughs. “Oh, birdie, I do like my pets feisty. That just makes it all the more fun to bring you to heel.” He makes a show of looking Monty up and down. “Or, for the especially pretty ones, to kneel.”

Monty can taste ash on his tongue when he seethes, “My name is Monty, and I am no one's pet.”

Captain Thomas King is a notorious pirate known for buying boys for company at sea. If anyone were to find out that he did so to save them from a worse fate, he would risk losing everything.

Monty Finch is his latest purchase. Monty, who refuses to believe that Thomas will do him no harm.

When a small but efficient group of liberators sets their sights on freeing Monty, Thomas and Monty's tenuous connection — and Thomas’ entire operation — threatens to crumble around them.

The den is as they left it, except for the woman sitting on their sofa. She is all in black, and the ankh necklace gleams upon her chest. She has the kindest smile. 

 “Hello, boys,” she says. “I don’t believe I’ve had the pleasure.” 

 “Yes, well,” says Edwin stiffly, “I hope you will appreciate that we have worked very hard to keep it that way.” 

 “I do appreciate it,” says Death. “I do.”
