So glad to have met a fellow Lance enjoyer! I thought I was like one of three who existed. And I completely agree with you about Jason! I like the themes and narratives surrounding Jason, but I don’t think they’ve ever been executed in a way I personally find satisfying or interesting. I like Jason as a concept more than as a character (Red Hood version specifically. I really like Robin Jason). If I may ask, how would you have liked to have seen Lance’s storyline handled in post-crisis and beyond had he not been erased? I’m so giddy you like Lance you have no idea 😂
well, first of all, i believe that batman having two dead robins is a bit of an overkill (said no one on the editorial when they were concluding steph's robin run) bruce having two dead children is a bit of an overkill so if lance is relevant (and dead), jay should get to live. unless it is to all becomes another story of inevitable cycles, in which case bruce's role in their demise would be emphasized in a way that would seriously change the batman mythos and perception of bruce... (of course, even in the contemporary timeline, other robins have also died; but they also quickly "recovered" so the question of bruce's responsibility became completely irrelevant as it's no more than a temporary injury atp)
back to my point, lance's death should have some real consequences when it comes to the way bruce (and dick too) view vigilantism... post-crisis, bruce is especially fixated on the idea that the role of robin will shape jay into someone moral. but with lance dead, it begs a question, is being a paragon of virtue worth the price? is self-sacrifice really the way bruce wants his kids to embrace? and from there, i believe there are two directions: one of them being bruce trying his best to prevent this outlook from forming in jay's head, or maybe as always, failing to understand the faults of his own lifestyle and dooming another child for the same way of conceptualizing what love and heroism means...
this is perhaps an interpretation borne from my personal impression of the story, which i believe to be rather disturbing, even though he original conclusion was supposed to be hopeful.

a/n: this is my first time writing for nat/something nat-centric and, technically, wandanat too! this was inspired by sidelines by phoebe bridgers because i think that song is suuuuper underappreciated and that it was a good fit for them (lyrics are in bold and italics). it’s been a while since i last wrote anything for fun and not for uni, so please be kind. i also don’t know much about gardening so some of the language might not be accurate. you can read it on ao3 (here) or under the cut. i hope you enjoy :>
I’m not afraid of anything at all
If there was one thing constant about Natasha, it was the lack of fear. It wasn’t inherent, but was a habit developed essential for her survival. She learned that pretty quickly. One moment of hesitance, no matter how short, could mean life or death.
There were other times she felt brave without risking her life though. Like when she first dyed her hair. She chose the color blue because it reminded her of the sky. The horizon always looked limitless, a reminder that there could be more to life than what she had already experienced. She remembers making that choice and following through with it. It made her feel in control of something, amidst all the other things she had no power over.

‘Cause nothing ever shakes me, nothing makes me cry
Not a plane going down in the ocean and drowning
One of her most vivid memories is flying the plane with Melina. The night was normal at first. She was playing tag with her younger sister until she fell and hurt her knee. Then, they watched the fireflies and went inside to help with dinner. Alexei arrived and they started eating. It all felt so nice, so normal until he said they were going on a big adventure. Her appetite disappeared. Yelena was excited, oblivious to what it actually meant. She didn’t have the heart or the chance to tell her.
The drive out was tense and quiet, save for American Pie playing in the background. She watched the scenes change outside her window from the suburbs to highways. They had to move fast, but she felt sluggish, overwhelmed with everything going on. She remembers holding on to a photobooth strip of her and Yelena before finally running to get on the plane after being urged by Alexei. The sound of sirens and the whirring of engines, her heartbeat hammering in her chest, filled her ears. Gunshots started sounding off. One hit Melina’s shoulder.
“I need you up here,” She said through gritted teeth. Natasha clambered beside her.
She was wincing in pain while giving instructions to pull right.
“Mom, you’ve got blood on you,” Her voice came out strangled, and that tight feeling came along with tears forming in her eyes. She didn’t cry often but she knew she hated the physiological sensations that came with it.
“It’s okay, baby.” Two more cars directly in front of them appeared in the distance. “Hit the accelerator there.”
She did as she was told, speeding the plane up. She faltered when a few more shots were fired at them.
“Hold it steady, hold it steady.” More shots, the headlights ahead were blindingly bright. “You’re gonna pull back at 55 knots.” They started counting in unison. Alexei popped one of the cars’ tires with a bullet, causing them to crash into each other.
“Pull back, you can do it! Pull back, all your strength...” Part of the plane grazes with the bottom of the now-upturned car. But they were finally off the ground. Flying. A sense of relief washes over her.
Considering the past few hours, the rest of the flight went smoothly. They landed somewhere remote, it felt like the middle of nowhere. Alexei carried Melina to a stretcher held by some soldiers she and Yelena ran after. After a short exchange of words with the older woman, she remembers wrangling a gun from someone, unwanted tears threatening to fall from her eyes again, and Yelena’s small form hiding behind her.
“I don’t wanna go back there.”
A needle was buried deep into her neck. She was then thrown into a shipping container with other girls. Masked people were pointing rifles at them, shouting and violently wrenching Yelena from her hold. There was a man, he knelt to meet her eyes. Rough and calloused hands held her face.
“The Red Room is your home now.”

Watched the world from the sidelines
Had nothing to prove
Natasha had just started getting used to being “normal,” just another child in midwestern America. She was going to school, being around other kids, having a family until it was all ripped away. Even though it was all a lie, she couldn’t say it wasn’t important to her.
Being back in the Red Room was a regimented, isolating existence. No one was able to speak to each other for long. Schedules were planned down to the minute. Excruciating physical training, including hand-to-hand combat, ballet, acrobatics, and weapons training, pushed them to their limits, sometimes even beyond.
The mutilation, both psychological and physical, was the worst of all. They broke down each girl’s hope and willpower if any were even left. They were treated like objects, mere faceless weapons they could manipulate as a means to an evil end. The ones who survived were considered lucky, the prime of their batches, and given an operation. They called it “graduation,” but everyone knew what that meant.
At some point, she was able to get out. Her time with the KGB, then in S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers was filled with twists and turns. It was a lot of battles, moral disputes, and political agendas. There was even a time when she had to expose her own seedy past, much to her discomfort, but it was for the greater good. She didn’t mind as long as it was for the well-being of others.

‘Til you came into my life
Gave me something to lose
Now that she thinks of it, the first time she interacted with Wanda was horrible. The witch inflicted a vision, memories that she was trying to bury and leave behind, when she was weakened and vulnerable. There were snippets of a conversation with Madame B. The graduation ceremony. It made her feel like a monster all over again.
The next time they interacted was in the Battle of Sokovia. She remembers regrouping with Steve, but not expecting the very same witch to make an appearance. Despite all the chaos, the jacket she wore looked familiar.
“Is that my jacket?” Natasha gestured at the younger woman, frowning slightly.
“She’s with us,” Steve said.
“That still doesn’t explain the jacket.”
Natasha was persistent. She didn’t shop for clothes often, never dressing up unless she wanted or had to, so this red jacket was special. It was one of the first few things she bought for herself. Wanda, now awkward and unsure of what to do, ran off. The rest of the battle felt like a blur of robots and rubble.
Since then, Wanda joined the Avengers. The younger woman mostly kept to herself when not on missions, watching sitcoms in her room. Vision would talk to her sometimes. Other times, the widow herself would do so. Natasha understood she needed space and time to cope with everything she’d been through but didn’t want to leave her fully isolated.
Their conversations, if you could even call them that, were awkward at first. Natasha would ramble on about whatever, trying to fill the silence.
“There’s breakfast in the kitchen.”
Wanda looks up from her book only to be met with a small, warm smile on the assassin’s face.
“It’s the usual American stuff. Eggs, bacon, sugary cereal, some fruit. Pretty sure Clint’s making waffles too,” Natasha points to the door with her thumb. “You should eat with us. Bond with the team, all that stuff that Steve goes on about. We’ll have training after.”
Wanda hums in contemplation. Then, she nods. It’s the slightest motion that one would miss if they didn’t pay enough attention. Natasha nods back and turns to leave the room. The witch’s voice catches her off-guard, though.
“I’ll come with you.”
It’s raspy in the best way possible, with a hint of her Sokovian accent lingering. It’s a sound that Natasha decides she would like to hear more often. Her smile grows ever so slightly as she gestures for her to walk together.
───
When Natasha started helping in Wanda’s hand-to-hand combat training, the two became closer literally and figuratively. In one memorable session, from when Wanda still wasn’t as skilled at combat as she is now, Natasha was able to pin her down. Her lithe fingers wrapped around the other woman’s wrists while she used her thighs to straddle. All to restrict movement, of course. The flustered expression on the witch’s face could not be more obvious.
Their sessions consisted of a warm-up, some rounds of sparring, and a cooldown. After barely surviving this particularly challenging one, Wanda lands on the bench with a sigh. “Fuck… You kicked my ass today, Tasha. No fair,” She says through heavy breaths, leaning back and wiping the sweat from her brow.
Natasha shrugs and smiles as she sits beside her, reaching for a bottle of water across from the younger woman. Her torso brushes with her thigh, making the Sokovian lose her breath all over again.
“Please. I went easy on you. Besides, it’s revenge for taking my jacket,” Natasha says as she sits back up and takes a sip of water.
Wanda stands on slightly wobbly legs while a breathy laugh escapes her lips. “You’re really still holding that grudge?” She raises her hands playfully, “In my defense, Steve threw it at me and told me to put it on. It was a hectic time, you know.”
Natasha smirks and shakes her head as they both move to gather their bags and leave. The assassin offers her hand.
“Let me carry your stuff. It’s the least I can do. Look, you can barely stand.”
“It’s okay, Tasha. I go—”
“Come on,” The widow urges. A knowing look is on her face.
Wanda’s face becomes flushed, more so than it already was. It looks like she hopes Natasha won’t notice, but she does anyway. She raises her eyebrow teasingly.
“Did the workout take you out that bad, Wands?”
The nickname doesn’t help at all. Wanda rolls her eyes playfully as she hands her duffel bag over. Natasha slings both bags over her shoulder and they start walking together.
“Remind me again why I have to keep doing the hand-to-hand stuff? I literally move things with my mind.”
“If you use your mind, why do you do the thing with your hands then?” Natasha tries to mimic the witch’s signature hand movements with her free hand. This earns her a lighthearted push.
“Oh, you know I’m just kidding. We both know you can’t just rely on your magic all the time. I want you to be able to fend for yourself if anything happens. Yeah?”
Wanda groans exaggeratedly, “Ugh. Okay, yes, you have a point.”
She chuckles at this. The pair, now embraced by a comfortable silence, walks to the elevator of the compound. As they enter, Natasha wraps her free arm around Wanda’s shoulder. She squeezes slightly, firm muscles under her touch, bringing her closer and looking into her eyes.
“Wanna have lunch with me today?”
Wanda raises her eyebrow, “Can we watch I Love Lucy while we eat?”
Natasha nods and hands over her bag. “Of course.”
They smile warmly at each other, parting ways to freshen up before meeting again later.
───
Natasha and Wanda have seen each other at different points in their lives. Happy, sad, and everything else in between. But the Lagos Incident was a whole other thing. Natasha herself was a witness to how Wanda had been doing so well before it. To watch the immense guilt, self-loathing, and depression come over the witch after the incident, after slowly building herself back up, was heartbreaking for the widow.
Old habits die hard. Wanda becomes a recluse again. However, instead of sitcoms accompanying her, it was the news. She couldn’t help but keep watching coverage of it as if being constantly reminded of this tragedy was helping anyone.
Steve already spoke with her, Natasha knows this, but she decides to give a different type of comfort to the person she’s grown to love. A silent one, one that speaks through actions.
On days Wanda doesn’t leave her room, Natasha knows she isn’t eating so she goes up and brings food. Nine times out of ten, it’s a peanut butter sandwich because it’s all she can make without setting the kitchen on fire. Ten times out of ten, it’s returned with just a few bites taken out. It doesn’t matter, Natasha is just happy to provide her with even the littlest bit of sustenance.
On nights Wanda can’t sleep, evident by the faint light escaping from her room, Natasha stays up with her. She takes it upon herself to change the channels on Wanda’s television or switch it off. She puts on some music instead, knowing that noise is a welcome distraction to her spiraling thoughts. Other times, Wanda motions for Natasha to her bed. The contact of skin on skin, the physical reminder that she isn’t alone helps Wanda relax even if it’s only for a few hours. Most nights, the feeling of Natasha’s body pressed up against Wanda’s is enough to lull her to sleep.
And when it’s not, when she falls into that spiral once more, Natasha’s always there to wipe away her tears and pull her out of it.
“So many people… All those lives lost because I-I couldn’t—” Wanda sobs, breaking down in the familiar hold of strong arms.
Natasha squeezes just a little bit tighter. She speaks softly, interrupting the younger woman, “I know, Wands. I know. But you have to stop blaming yourself, okay? We’ve all hurt people and we’ve all made mistakes. Even if we mean well. And you did mean well. It’s just sometimes things work out in ways we don’t anticipate.”
The consoling words fall on deaf ears. Wanda shakes her head and cries even harder while burying herself deeper into the embrace. Her voice is muffled, repeated pleas of repentance, “It’s my fault, it’s my fault, it’s all my fault… T-tasha, it’s all my fault…” Unsure what to say now, Natasha resorts to her instinct instead. It has never failed her. She starts to rock Wanda gently, pressing a soothing kiss to the top of the younger woman’s head. A quiet, melodic hum resonates from her lips. She continues until Wanda’s breathing evens out and until sleep takes over both of them.
───
A soft stream of sunlight seeps into the room, awakening the Russian. She looks down at the sleeping figure in her arms. Wanda looks so peaceful right now, Natasha thinks. She would do anything to conserve this moment, this feeling of serenity for her. To take away all her pain, heartache, and afflictions. Realistically, she knows she can’t accomplish that. The best she can do is just be there for her.
It’s been a few minutes since and she feels Wanda stir slightly, who immediately snuggles closer and remains asleep. A warm feeling settles in her body, first in her chest then it spreads all over. She recalls feeling this way many times before, but only ever with Wanda. It’s at this exact instance she finally fully realizes what this is.
I’m in love.
She bites her lip in contemplation, quiet realization, as Wanda’s eyes flutter open. Hazy green eyes look into clear ones and a mumbled phrase reaches her ears. “Your thoughts are getting loud, Tasha. Are you okay?”
Broken from her trance, she looks down at Wanda. “Yeah, I am. Um. I just… I have something to tell you.” She shifts to lean against the headboard. Now is as perfect a time as any, she thinks.
Wanda’s eyebrows stitch together in a frown as she rubs the sleep from her eyes. She sits up, mostly leaning her weight on the other woman, while trying to decipher the look on her face. The Russian waits for a sign of approval from the Sokovian. Wanda nods and hums.
“I’m going to be direct about this, Wands.”
She takes a deep breath in.
“I like that we’ve grown close, that we consider each other as friends. I like doing things for you and with you and I like helping you, giving you what I have. Time, insight, comfort, whatever. Watching sitcoms with you, sleeping next to you, and waking up in your bed. I like your voice and your ringed hands, how graceful they look when you use your powers. The way your nose scrunches up and your bunny teeth show when you smile. How your accent slips when you say certain words and how you say my name. The way you carry yourself. How you care so much about others… If you let me, I would care for you for the rest of time.”
Natasha finishes with a sharp exhale, only now realizing her rambling. Losing control was one of the things she never wanted to experience again, but this time was different. Finally letting these thoughts flow through and out of her felt cathartic.
Wanda’s voice is quiet, “You would?”
Natasha nods, “Always.”
She says it without hesitation. Because she is wholly certain that she has no other answer. Why would there be?
Wanda becomes silent. An unreadable expression appears on her face as she takes in Natasha’s words. Her posture straightens slightly. Tension is now in the air and a silence begins to settle.
Natasha screws her eyes shut, willing the tears in her eyes to stop forming. She was just about to take everything back, apologize for even saying anything, before getting interrupted. She feels slim fingers gently hold her face. Wanda strokes Natasha’s cheek, her thumb moving in slow, circular motions while she speaks.
“Tasha, hey, please don’t cry,” Wanda looks at her pleadingly, leaning in closer.
Natasha blinks rapidly, brows furrowing together. “I’m sorry. I got nervous because you weren’t saying anything and I… I don’t want to lose you.”
“You have nothing to apologize for. I just had to take a minute because I didn’t realize you felt this way. Trust you won’t lose me, please.” She looks away. Her touch slows down and ceases as her hands fall to her lap. “I just don’t know what I did to deserve you.”
“You didn’t have to do anything, moya lyubov.” Natasha holds Wanda’s hands, “I mean everything I just said. I love you, Wanda.”
She waits for a response with bated breath. Before she knows it, she feels supple lips capture her own.
It’s tender yet electric. It’s everything she’s ever imagined and more. It’s simply perfect.
Natasha closes her eyes and deepens the kiss. She cradles Wanda’s jaw and feels the brunette melt into her touch. They pull away seconds later, foreheads touching as they catch their breath. Wanda says softly, “I love you too, Natasha. You don’t know how long I have been wanting to say that.”

Now I know what it feels like
To wanna go outside
It was a calm morning, both women following a routine established over the past few months. Natasha would wake up early and then proceed to training, leaving Wanda to sleep in. By the time she’d be back, Wanda was up and just finishing preparing breakfast. They’d eat together, talk about their plans for the day, and decide what to do from there. Some days they’d spend together while, on others, they’d have separate activities.
“Detka! Come here, please!”
Natasha was working on some reports when she heard Wanda call out. She looks at the clock and decides now is a perfect time to take a break anyway. She hums as she stands up and stretches her limbs before leaving the room.
Wanda had been tending to the garden in the compound for some time now. She started with small pots of herbs and then moved to random vegetables after discovering she had a gift for raising plants. Lately, she also added flowers and various houseplants to her catalog. Being out in the sun, getting her hands dirty, and nurturing these plants was hard work, but it was work Wanda loved.
Natasha makes a couple of peanut butter sandwiches and pours two glasses of cold water on a tray, then carries it over to the sliding door leading to the garden. She places it down on a table outside and her eyes immediately search for Wanda. It’s an irresistible sight, her beloved’s face beaming and surrounded by greenery. She even thinks she sees her talking to the plants.
She smiles to herself while appreciating the view until Wanda realizes she’s arrived. She gets waved over, “Tasha!” The excitement in the witch’s voice is barely contained as Natasha walks towards her.
She wraps an arm around Wanda, bringing her closer and kissing her forehead, “Hi, kotenok. I brought over some snacks and water if you wanted them. What is it you wanted me to see?”
Wanda pulls off her gardening gloves, places them in her pocket, and brushes her hands over her pants. She mumbles a quick thank you before taking Natasha’s hand in one of her own and using the other to cover her eyes.
“Close your eyes. I want this to be a surprise.”
Natasha plays along, using her free hand to help cover her eyes. “Okay. Just make sure I don’t trip, yeah?”
Wanda giggles as she leads Natasha by the hand, “Don’t worry, detka, I got you.”
They walk slowly, up a few steps, and stop. Wanda takes a deep breath, “Okay, now.”
When their hands uncover Natasha’s eyes, she is met with vibrant blooms of various colors against a green background of bushes. It’s a masterful arrangement of asters, marigolds, hydrangeas, wildflowers, and many more. She gasps, breath taken away by the gorgeous sight.
“You did all this by yourself?”
The Sokovian nods sheepishly, “Yeah. I read somewhere that getting them all to bloom like this would be challenging, but I think I did decently.”
Natasha squeezes her hand, “It’s more than decent. It looks stunning, Wands. You did an amazing job.”
Wanda’s arm wraps around Natasha’s waist, her head rests on her shoulder. A satisfied sigh leaves her lips. They remain silent, basking in each other’s presence and the garden view.
“If you’re like this with plants, I can only imagine how well you’d be with kids,” Natasha muses.
Wanda lifts her head and looks at Natasha, her shoulders raised slightly, “What if, at some point, you won’t have to imagine?”
Small smiles grow on both of their faces. They share a knowing look before assuming their previous positions. “Someday, lyubov, someday.”
Natasha used to feel the need to keep busy, keep moving because she thought anything too constant would be taken away from her again. Though she never admitted it to anyone, not even herself, the thought of settling down and starting a family of her own was terrifying.
But not anymore. Everything felt so much easier with Wanda. It now truly felt like anything was possible. The lack of fear forced onto her when she was younger came from a dark place of abuse and indifference. Now, it comes naturally. It comes from love.

Note
i wanna start reading abt dick / robin / nw / why does he have so many names. do you have any recommendations..... ;;; ??
Well, yes!!
If you want to start with what's important, I recommend:
Robin v2 Annual #4: One of the many versions of Dick Grayson's origin and my personal favorite.
Robin - Year One: I think it's a great comic since it's short and a good introduction to Dick Grayson's Robin once he's settled into the role.
The Brave and The Bold v1 #54 & #60: First introductions to the Teen Titans!! This origin hasn't been changed much nowadays, so you'll be good starting from here to learn about the team.
Teen Titans 1966 #53: Teen Titans origin and break up. Their adventures in this comic are all fun to read, so the full comic is recommended, but it isn't something essential to read, so you can skip it if you'd rather do that.
New Teen Titans v1 #1: Introduction of the new Teen Titans! After this issue you can read the rest of the comic, but that'll be up to you.
New Teen Titans #39: Robin leaves the mantle. In newer comics it's Batman who fires Robin and forces Dick out of the costume, but originally it was Dick's decision to stop being Robin and become his own hero. However, if you want to read the "Batman fires Robin" version, for that you'd have to read Batman v1 #408 or Nightwing v2 #101 (the latter being much harsher than the prior).
That's what I'd recommend to read about Robin Dick Grayson if you're just starting. After that, you can begin exploring any comic you want.
Now, moving on to Nightwing:
Tales of the Teen Titans #44: Nightwing introduction!! This would be the first time we get to see Dick in his new costume.
Nightwing - Secret Files and Origins: More about how Dick becomes Nightwing and the Kryptonian origin of the name, plus some other stuff that happen in this short comic.
Batman #416: Dick Grayson meets Jason Todd, the new Robin! Can't miss this one. It's nice to see how Dick confronts Bruce and ends up getting along with Jason.
The New Titans #55: Dick finds out Jason died and confronts Bruce about it. It doesn't go very well, and it's probably one of the moments that strains their relationship the most.
Batman #436 - #441: 5 issues in which you'll get the first look at Tim Drake's character, lots of Dick and Bruce angsty interactions after Jason's death, a new version of Dick Grayson's origin and then some more about Tim's character.
Robin v4 #0: Dick & Tim, Robin Dick Grayson flashbacks and finally Dick taking on the Batman mantle just as Bruce goes away for a while.
Nightwing 1996 #1 - #3: Nightwing and Bludhaven. Not my favorite issues, but they are important to learn more about Bludhaven and why Dick decided to stay and protect the city.
These are the comics and issues I recommend to start reading about Dick Grayson. Anything more you want to learn will be up to you, and you can start with whatever you like, this is just my personal suggestion.
A few extra recommendations I'd give you are:
Robin & Batman 2021: Beautiful art and a very nice approach to the start of Bruce and Dick's dynamic. And since it's a short comic, you can read it in one evening, which is always convenient if you don't have a lot of time to read comics.
Flash plus Nightwing: Dick and Wally have one of my favorite friendships in DC, so I recommend this comic about one of their adventures together during one of their annual vacations.
Secret Origins v2 #13: Dick in this one basically retells many things that's happened to him over the years while talking to Jericho and it's, overall, a very enjoyable issue.
Teen Titans 1966: I know I said it earlier, but it really is a very fun comic. I recommend to read when you're in the mood for something lighthearted. Each issue has it's own plot, so you can read one and then leave it until you're in the mood again.
Hope this helps you, anon!

(SPOILERS if you haven't seen the show yet):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mxy knocks over a display case that contains the Helmet of Fate. The mystical, god containing item, makes its first appearance, along with Doctor Fate, in More Fun Comics #55 (1940) the panels were done by Gardner Fox and Howard Sherman. The Helmet of Fate is the one controlling the body as it contains the god, Nabu, the Lord of Order. The helmet grants anyone who wears it magical powers and the mantle of the Doctor Fate. Usually the person most associated with the it is Kent Nelson but recent comics had Khalid Nassour take up the Doctor Fate name.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next we see Mxy pass by the Cosmic Rod of Starman/Stargirl. In the
comics the original owner of the Cosmic Rod was Ted Knigh, the original Starman. The Cosmic Rod he wielded was about the size of a flashlight. It wasn't until Starman #4 (1994) (W: James Robinson, P: Tony Harris, I: Wade Von Grawbadger, C: Gregory Wright, L: John Workman) that his son, Jack Knight took the new and improved Cosmic Rod that his father made and used it for himself to take up the Starman name. The staff would then get passed on to Courtney Whitmore aka Stargirl who at the time took up the name Star-Spangled Kid, when Jack retired the Starman identity to raise his kid. Courtney took up the Starman name as Stargirl and used the Cosmic Rod to carry on the name. The Cosmic Rod gives its wielder flight and energy projection.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mr. Mxyzptlk then passes over a flight ring in the display. Very good homage to the Legion of Superheroes. Originally the LoSH wore belts to allow their members to fly, but Brainiac 5 was able to make flight rings so they can be less encumbered by the belts as seen in the panel from Adventure Comics #329 (1965) (W: Jerry Seigel, P&I: Jim Mooney, L: David Huffine). The LoSH are a group of young superheroes from the 31st century who are from various parts of the galaxy that fight evil as a team. The group was inspired by reading the history of what Superman did and they want to uphold his ideals and legacy. If they do show up in the show I'll definitely talk more about them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In another display we see the Soultaker Sword. The sword is associated with Tatsu Yamashiro aka Katana. It and Katana make their first debut in the Brave and the Bold 200 (1983) (W: Mike Barr, P&I: Jim Aparo, C: Adrienne Roy, L: Jim Aparo). The sword was forged by Muramasa, who imbued it with magical properties where whoever kills with the sword, steals the souls of the victim's. Tatsu's husband and children were unfortunately slain by the sword, wielded by her brother-in-law and Tatsu has since then taken the sword and use it to avenged those who were slain by him. Because of the swords magical properties, it can be used to harm Kryptonians. Yes magic is a weakness for Superman.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When we cut back to the League of Loises ship, Jalana goes Flamebird on everyone and name drops Comet. This is a very good homage to Comet the Super-Horse. Comet made his first debut in Adventure Comics 293 (1962) (W: Jerry Seigel, P: Curt Swan, I: George Klein, L: Milt Snapinn) Comet, along with Krypto the Super-Dog, Streaky the Super-Cat, and Beppo the Super-Monkey, formed the Legion of Super-Pets to save the Legion of Superheroes and Superboy from Brain-Globes of Rambat. Give Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow a read if you want to check out a really cool Comet story.
Tumblr media
Krypton gets a name drop, Superman's home planet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Someone on the MAwS team is a Kingdom Hearts fan.
Tumblr media
Kryptonite is finally introduced in the show, the most well-known weakness of Superman's. Fun fact Kryptonite made its first appearance not in the comics but on the Adventures of Superman radio show in 1943. It wasn't until 6 years later in 1949 that Kryptonite is introduced in the comics in Superman #61.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the League of Loises HQ we see MAwS Lois and Mxy walk down the hall with holographic projections of various Loises in the DC multiverse. The one on your left is obviously Lois Prime aka Fleischer Studios Lois the one on your right is Superman the Animated Series Lois. The one next to StAS Lois is Superwoman from Action Comics #60 (1943). The issue was created by Jerry Seigel and George Roussos where Lois dreams of having Superman's powers and saving the day.
Tumblr media
As Mxy searches for his hat we see him open up a cache of various weapons that the Loises have collected. Some of them are pretty recognizable like the Card Captor Sakura staff that's by Mxy's head, Guts's giant sword from Berserk above Mxy on the second shelf from the bottom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the episode wraps up we see MAwS lois activate the data sphere she took from the headquarters and sees evil Supermen tearing up the city. The first we see is an homage to Overman from Animal Man #23 (1990) (W: Peter Milligan, P: Chas Truog, I: Mark Farmer, C: Tajana Wood, L: John Costanza) and the second is designed after Justice Lords Superman from the Justice League cartoon.
Overman is from a world where all superheroes are part of the government and each one is a clone from him. Justice Lords Superman is from the two-parter episode "A Better World" where his Flash died, Superman kills President Lex Luthor in retaliation and he and the Justice League become dictators. Gotta admit Superman does look pretty cool in that suit.
That will be it for this week's episodes Easter Eggs and references. If you made it this far down the post and want to see the other MAwS Easter Eggs and references post you can find them here:

Who is.... Ralph Dibny | The Elongated Man? - A Reading Guide
Tumblr media
Ralph Dibny is a powered superhero from DC Comics first introduced in 1960. Ralph gains his ability to stretch his body to comic proportions as a result of his chronic ingestion of what is basically an essential oil. Ralph's hero work is largely based out of Opal City (which is kind of a stand-in for Baltimore, MD). Ralph is best known for his membership with the Justice League of America, Justice League Europe, and the Croatoans. Ralph is a devoted husband to his wife Sue, has his own exhibit at the Flash Museum, and is one of, if not the best detective in detective comics!
A selection of my favorite Ralph Dibny comics can be found in chronological order under the cut If you're interested in a full list of Ralph's appearances, please dm me and I'm happy to send you scans of a of my handwritten list!
The Flash (1959) #112, 115, 119, 124, 130, 134, 138 Detective Comics (1937) #328-345 Justice League of America (1960) #51 The Flash (1959) #206, 208, 210, 212 Justice League of America (1960) #100, 102, 105-106, 109-114, 116-121, 128-129, 131-134 Detective Comics (1937) #465-466, 468 Justice League of America (1960) #142-143 The Flash (1959) #252-253 Justice League of America (1960) #159-160, 210-212 (flashbacks), 161-168, 179, 181-183, 186-188 Detective Comics (1937) #500D The Flash (1959) #296 Justice League of America (1960) #189-191 The Brave and the Bold (1955) #177 Justice League of America (1960) #197-200 The Flash (1959) #323-325, 327-329 Justice League of America (1960) #226-227, Annual 2 (1984), 233-239 The Flash (1959) #341, 349 DC Retroactive: JLA - The 80's (2011) #1 <- chronologically this is where the story goes even if the issue is from 2011 Secret Origins (1986) #30
From here we really enter into Ralph's Justice League Europe era, so I'm separating the out a little bit

Post Zero Hour through to 52. This period of comics contains the highly controversial Identity Crisis, which centers around the death of Ralph's wife, Sue.
Starman (1994) #56, 61-63, 65, 67-68, 70-73, 75, 80 Doom Patrol (2001) #4-6 Formerly Known as the Justice League (2003) #1-6 Identity Crisis (2004) #1-7 52 (2006) #1-2, 4-5, 7-8, 11-13, 18, 21, 24-25, 27, 31-33, 39, 41-42, 52
After 52, Ralph comes back as a ghost for a few issues and later as a black lantern during Blackest Night but tbh I didn't enjoy those much at all so they're not included

THE GRUESOME DEATHS OF THE METAL MEN
In Brave & Bold #55, we discover that the Metal Men were not the first robots Doc Magnus created!
Tumblr media
The story begins with the Metal Men creating an amusement park for some orphans. Of course Tina becomes obsessed with having children.
Tumblr media
Back at Magnus’ lab, Tina stumbles into an electronic generator which disintegrates her. Then Doc discovers that her atomic structure has changed and he can’t bring her back.
Tumblr media
Immediately after Iron falls back into a magnetic force field which destroys him too!
Tumblr media
To make matters worse, Gold falls into a vat containing a solution that dissolves him!
Tumblr media
Mercury loses his temper (as usual) and decides to turn down the temperature. This causes him to shrink live mercury in a thermometer!
Tumblr media
Tin turns the heat back up, but too high! He melts into slag!
Tumblr media
Then Lead does something he’s don’t countless times, but this time with different result!
Tumblr media
THEN we discover two evil robots are behind all this destruction!
(MORE LATER!)

Midst Season 3 Eps 14 & 15 Time Comparisons
Cuz I just really needed to see certain lines and events as Saskia's doubling really gets a work out here, as the narrators also play with their foreshadowing and narrative doubling, and I am desperate to know how it's going to resolve (I had to pace for awhile after finishing "Breach"). For everyone else, but especially Saskia, all things considered. I may know by the time this posts the morning ep 15 goes public, but I wouldn't be surprised if that question is left hanging for a few more weeks.
I'll put the transcriptions of the images' content under the cuts (since I cannot put the words into the columns), but they are 2 side by side document images, with timestamps taken from the videos on the main site, of episodes "Shindig" and "Breach", including their taglines and run times. Certain lines in each transcript are bolded.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shindig Transcript “Life is a cabaret, old chum.” Episode length: 26:55
33 secs through 1:08: Narrator 3: That’s not to say that Saskia’s own inner torment and agony have dwindled. Indeed, if anything, she is at maximum rebellion, and is real, real hoppin’ mad, and sad, and betrayed. Narrator 2: But she’s putting on a brave face, with her Midst face, and true to her word has said nothing to anyone about her new moon knowledge. Nobody needs to know that here tonight. Her other self… we don’t need to worry about her just yet. But putting on nice parties for her community has always made her feel better.
1:48 through 1:59: Narrator 2: (Saskia) “Let’s get this party started! Wait, oops…” Narrator 1: She looks around for a second, wondering which one of her bodies that was. Narrator 2: (Saskia) “Did I say that here or there? Shit. Well, works either way. Anyway…”
3:00: Narrator 3: We’re all back at the Black Candle Cabaret you guys! It’s so wholesome. It’s basically late afternoon and unlight streams in through the open door and windows.
3:30: Narrator 1: Everyone is back together again. Well, almost everyone.
4:17: (Narrator 1) And many, many others. All here, all alive, and together. Narrator 2: Goddamn, this town’s been through a lot.
(Emmet’s toasts, “Fuck Moc Weepe”, dancing begins)
12:43 through 12:51: Narrator 2: Within moments, the floor of the cabaret is absolutely on fire. Narrator 3: With dancing, not with fire. That would be bad. Narrator 2: That WOULD be bad.
14:33 through 15:00: Narrator 3: (Sherman) “I wish both of, uh, you, were home, too.” Narrator 1: Tzila glances skyward at this comment. (Tzila) “Yeah, what are you doing up there right now, Saskia? Are you with Lark and Phineas? What’s going on?” Narrator 2: (Saskia) “It’s, uh, well, if you don’t mind, I’d just rather focus on what’s here right now. Let’s pretend I’m not anywhere else, just for tonight. If anything important happens, I’ll fill you in later.”
16:47: Narrator 3: Saskia has that way of looking at everything all at once. Narrator 2: Even moreso now.
17:38: Narrator 2: Saskia smiles at (Sherman). He sees her affection for it all, but he also sees a great deal of pain underneath all that.
18:53: Narrator 3: (Sherman) “Maybe we can all stay.” Narrator 2: (Saskia) “Maybe we can.”
19:57 through 24:17: Town rounds through That Damn Moon Mining Song. 20:19 is Saskia’s verse, following Goe’s opening. She passes it to Ettie.
24:18 through 24:42: Narrator 3: As the town works their way through their verses, Saskia takes a moment to slip off on her own. [The singing and party sounds recede into the background as the scene transitions outdoors. Cricket ambiance.] Narrator 2: The party’s in full swing now. Her work is done. Narrator 3: She’s an excellent host. Narrator 2: She gratefully takes a seat on the stoop out front of the cabaret, takes her heels off. Emotions are very high. Narrator 3: This has been a beautiful, difficult night.
24:48: Narrator 2: Stationary Hill glimmers in the desert night before her. A warm, fold-safe glow emanates from the cabaret behind.
25:09: Narrator 1: Sherman examines Saskia. She looks tired. He can scarcely imagine what it’s like to be here, but to still be up THERE at the same time. No wonder she’s exhausted. Narrator 2: She’s been through a lot.
25:56 through 26:18 Narrator 2: Saskia, who had been a little lost in thought just now, returns to herself and looks clearly at Sherman. Narrator 3: Really looks at him, a remarkable rarity, taking him in. She gives him a tiny smile and shakes her head. Narrator 2: (Saskia) “It’s okay,” she says quietly. “You go on without me.” Narrator 3: And he does, returning to his daughter, giving Saskia a moment alone.

Breach Transcript “Trickle-down economics.” Episode length: 43:55
43 seconds: (First mention of Saskia) Narrator 1: And a stunning blonde dreamy-eyed assistant who’s pushing a handcart of official-looking Trust-stamped Valor and Caenum sacks, one of each.
3:06: Narrator 1: Ms. Ledge and Saskia offer up the two bags for inspection.
8:39 through 9:32: Narrator 2: (Saskia) “Let’s get this party started!” Saskia says, a little too loud for comfort. “Wait, oops!” Narrator 1: Hieronymous and Lark look at her sharply, and then scan for passersby. Narrator 3: Nobody in the hallway right now. Narrator 2: (Saskia) “Did I say that here or there?” Saskia looks alarmed, glancing around, wondering which of her bodies said that. Narrator 1: Both, apparently. Narrator 2: (Saskia) “Shit. Well, works either way. Anyway…” Narrator 1: Loxlee leans in to Saskia. (Hieronymous) “Are you okay there? You gonna be a problem for yourself?” Narrator 2: (Saskia) “Nope,” says Saskia. Her cheeks are a little bit red. “Momentary distraction. All good.” Narrator 1: Hieronymous doesn’t seem entirely convinced, but he drops it, warily. Narrator 2: The Breach team has all been briefed at this point on Saskia’s unique condition, but they are by no means used to it. She’s an oddity. Hopefully not a liability.
9:32 through 9:45: Narrator 1: The party proceeds apace. Narrator 3: We meant this party of saboteurs, but technically yes, the dance party in Stationary Hill, many miles away down on the Mediun, is moving right along also.
(Party travels through the Vault and down even past the Arca, and S2 Ep 13 “Inside” tells us the elevator from the lobby to that level is a long ride.)
15:19: Narrator 2: In any case, no one moves a fucking muscle — other than Saskia, hastily shrinking herself into the background to hopefully avoid Imelda’s notice.
17:06: Narrator 3: Saskia has been attempting to lurk in the background, but nothing can evade the light of the Trust forever. Imelda’s brow furrows and her mild expression falters minutely as she begins to recognize a truly inconvenient number of them.
29:40: Narrator 3: Boom. [A sizzling of muffled explosions, like firecrackers at a distance.] Narrator 3: Fire flashes through the Caenum tubes. Narrator 2: Half the room blows up. [A massive explosion.] The floor rips asunder, heaving and splitting, and everyone is thrown off their feet.
(Jonas turns, Weepe orders him and the breach party killed except for Lark, the Company prepares to fire, Gretel’s flying a ship below the hole)
40:38: Narrator 2: And Saskia Del Norma finally pulls herself up out of the rubble to stand at the end of the wheezing bank machine, next to the one hopper still full of unexploded Valor.
41:27: Narrator 2: The following happens in the next five seconds.
41:43: Narrator 2: The Breach all exchange a look, and Saskia, beside the remains of the bank machine, lays her hand on the routing lever for the other still-uncirculated funnel full of white Valor beads. They all see what she’s thinking.
42:21: Narrator 2: Saskia looks to her compatriots in Breach — really looks at them, a remarkable rarity, taking them in. Their eyes are going wide with realization. Saskia gives them a tiny smile and shakes her head. (Saskia) “It’s okay,” she says quietly. “You go on without me.”
42:56 through 43:19: Narrator 1: And the remaining Breach survivors and Jonas Spahr lean back, fall over the lip of the crevasse, and plummet into the void… as Saskia stays behind, locks eyes with Weepe, and gently routes the funnel of Valor beads to “Shred.” [screen goes white] Narrator 2: Boom.

STEPNEY VISITS ARVERNE
by A. Griffin/ Super Train Station H ---------------------------------
From Sheffield Park so far away, to the narrow stretch of Rockaway, the young at heart count down the days, till Stepney visits Arverne.
A tour spanning across the world, bringing joy to every boy and girl, now New York City gets its turn, when Stepney visits Arverne.
The Bluebell Railway's long revered, does blow her chime so all will hear, and beyond its sound, is spread the cheer, when Stepney visits Arverne.
Brightly the merry whistle tones, beach rabbits scurry to their holes, folks rush out from their bungalows, when Stepney visits Arverne.
Long Island Rail Road right of way, between the ocean and the bay, will carry her throughout her stay, when Stepney visits Arverne.
Backyards on Amstel Boulevard, from there wave children from afar, they see the engine working hard, when Stepney visits Arverne.
Each of her cars, a wooden coach, on streams of steel, away they float, within the sight of canal boats, when Stepney visits Arverne.
These tracks knew steam so long ago, and reminded of the days of old, the beachside rails do creak and groan, when Stepney visits Arverne.
