The argument/excuse that Alicent was too young to be a good mother is such garbage.
Catelyn Tully was 14 when she had Robb, and despite how I feel about her attitude towards Jon, she loved her kids. She was the best mother toward her kids. Was she flawed? Yes.
Rhaenyra had Jace at, like, 17 -18. She's a flawed person but a brilliant mother and adores her kids.
My mother was a teenager when she had my oldest brother, and she refused my grandparents (her mum and stepdad) offer to adopt my brother. She has been the best mother ever. She was a single teen parent.
But what most don't seem to understand is that in The World of Ice and Fire, which is based upon medieval England, a female came of age when they bled for the first time. It was proof that they were ready to bear children.
In our history, one of my favourite bamf mothers is Margaret Beaufort. She was thirteen when she gave birth to Henry Tudor, later the first Tudor king of England.
So many women in our history were expected to, once they menstruated for the first time, marry a man - no matter their age - and bear children.
That's what a lot of people seem to forget when it comes to AGOT and HOTD.
These worlds are not based upon the 21st century and our own society and what is acceptable. It's based upon medieval England and yeah childbrides are gross as fuck and make me sick, but in this fictional world it's their normal. In actual fact, Alicent is actually weirdly old to have married at 15 when she likely bled earlier - but Otto wanted his blood on the throne and waited to use her.
Not to mention a lot of mothers in this time period foist their kids off to nannies, governesses, and maids to raise. Royal mothers rarely had much to do with their children's rearing until they hit 5 or so. They didn't even breast feed their own kids. It was very hands off parenting.
So, no, Alicent - according to the time period she's in - is not a child bride. She was raised with the expectation that she would marry for alliances, likely to a man older than her and someone she wouldn't necessarily like. She knew this, and she likely accepted and agreed with it.
Hell, in the books alicent gladly and eagerly becomes queen-consort because of the power it affords her. In the books, she wants that power and status so much she goes against a nine year old girl (rhaenyra) to gather sycophants and followers. The show ruined Alicent's character so much.
In the books she's a worthy, almost Cersei-level antagonist.
In the show she's just a pathetic, victim-complex, child abusing, treasonous bitch.

Love it when a modern "progressive" show makes all the evildoers physically disabled.
Larys has a Clubfoot, Aemond gets his eye cut out, and now Aegon is burnt and missing appendages.
Isn't it convenient that we can immediately tell a person is bad because their body looks different?
And of course, we don't explore any discrimination against these characters because they're horrible, and we shouldn't feel bad for horrible people.
People were mean to Larys because of his Clubfoot? But don't you know he has a gross foot fetish?
Aemond has impaired vision? But his eyepatch looks cool, and he is still a good fighter, so what is he even complaining about?
Aegon has been severely burnt? But he is a rapist and so let's make jokes about his dick burning off, lol.

I think it’s so ironic that the Pony Express escapes a lot if not all blame in discussion. I can’t even say I am excused from it but it’s just how hard people circle back to the characters alone without considering the environment they were made to be in.
Why would they design a ship where only two of the rooms lock? Not the bathroom? Not the sleeping quarters? We assume that all the companies in the universe are this shallow and careless to their workers but we explicitly know the Pony Express in extra vile. They are fed processed slop pack they can’t even really cook and the ration of those pack is meager at best. They hired and made people with a plethora of conflicting demeanors and beliefs work together on a mission where cohesion is important if not an outright necessity and punish them for not being happy about it. There’s no social protocols, not chain of command other than Captain’s word/choice and the only way to enforce that is with a literal firearm. They don’t allow them to celebrate freely and even took away leisure activities that would make them less stir crazy. They are only allowed a few hours of sleep despite their being no other real responsibilities or work on the ship, no matter the position or its importance. With any crew, with any level of synergy, this was a powder keg waiting for a spark.
I’m not saying characters that made mistakes didn’t make huge ones, but I think part of the horror is that at least for some (this is targeting Jimathan) those mistakes are partly made by a force of the hand. There’s a running theme of lack of choice and being forced into something and the very nature of how The Pony Express expected them to function plays a big part.
#like even I forget that all actions taken in the game were people trying to remain in protocol outside of Jimmy#Anya couldn’t have jus stolen the scanner and got the gun cause she’s a sensible person and knows she’d be in legal trouble#or get everyone’s credits docked or just hoping that there’s some chain of command for this sort of thing#Daisuke only really acted in accordance to his direct superiors because he’s an intern he wouldn’t know the first thing about protocol or#what to do in any situation. like this is essentially implied to be his first real job#Curly may be the captain but he still has to follow rules and procedures and we see with the letter the Pony Express likely has very shady#and shitty ones. he gives the best not depressing or totalitarian options he can otherwise everything is just his word which aren’t even his#or like him just asserting his position with the gun which he wouldn’t do#Swansea follows the book begrudgingly because he’s trying to stay right and not fall back into who he once was#I feel like it’s not incorporated nearly enough that the environment they were dropped into heavily affected their actions#say there was a single person higher than Curly or a plan of action when a crew member is considered a danger to himself or others#I think it’s fascinating how people will stick to protocol and break when they get scared or to their limit#cause the game shows how normalcy deteriorates and I think discounting what the characters where put through by the company takes a way a#real and scary aspect of what happened to Anya because as a friend Curly didn’t do enough for her at all his comfort was there and he#appreciated but it was a distracted sort of care but as a Captain he didn’t protect her but he’s was a Captain of the Pony Express like what#if they told him to wait to? he still should’ve done something because Anya was actively suffering and Jimmy should’ve been reprimanded but#he’s a captain with orders like the Tulpar isn’t his ship in the same way like#god I wanna explain this in a way that makes sense but the Tulpar is like designed to breed animosity and work on the bare requirements one#needs to get things done that’s not how people work and if anyone deviates or interrupts that it literally has nothing to handle it#it becomes clear that if any social unrest happens why they just say fuck it and give the Captain the gun because if something happens the#blame can easily be placed on the person they put in charge despite what they put them#in charge of like this is just like work place harassment irl because often the perpetrators are not punished but the supervisors for not#stopping them with meetings or cuts or whatever but the environment the company fostered is rarely fixed or blamed#like why was this allowed to occur? and honestly that is because Jimmy did what he did#ask me about this if this is confusing cause I worded it crazy#mouthwashing#mouthwashing game#the pony express

DAISY JONES & THE SIX   ↳book > screen
GRAHAM: Karen and I left her place that morning. I said to her, just as we walked out of the door, "Can't we just drive over together?" She said she didn't want people thinking we were sleeping together. I said, "But we are sleeping together." She still made us take two cars.
KAREN: You know how easy it is to screw up your entire life by sleeping with somebody in your own band?

this is soooooooo much better than simon’s pov of watching Malec kiss in the accords hall or wherever they shared their public kiss. say what you want about the arranged marriage but Lydia stood by Alec. she told Alec about his parents past, something they didn’t think was necessary to share, admired Alec for his family duty, and never forced anything on him. I loved the mention of Henry. he’s very underrated in TLH and TID.
the way that Magnus knows alec says it all. I’ve seen book fans saying it’s creepy (as if Magnus not communicating and following teenage alec isn’t creepy??????) but it just shows that alec doesn’t need to say anything and nothing is being forced on him. no one is saying “OMG ALEXANDER JUST COME OUT ALREADY BECAUSE IF YOU DONT YOU ARE NOT SERIOUS ABOUT ME- YEAH ALEC JUST COME OUT ALREADY HOW HARD COULD IT BE (Magnus and jace basically in the books)
I sincerely and seriously love that show Magnus isn’t like that. he’s not trying to force a decision on Alec. he’s not pushy, but he just knows he feels something for Alec and Alec feels it too. but he’s not making Alec come out to the clave. and as we can see, Alec is clearly struggling with his parents expectations and what he truly desires
I don’t know, I’ll always love the iconic wedding scene and the parallels that are attached to it. I think this is one of the many reasons people fell in love with Malec to begin with. I loved them from the second I saw Alec and Magnus but this just made it better. and yeah I will shit on the book because book Malec was done dirty. there was no reason for Simon to have a pov for most of their important discussions and moments. like the fact that he has that pov- when they’re fighting and saying ooooo they’re so dramatic and extra, and to their first public kiss is insane to me. it’s an inappropriate pov that has nothing to do with Simon.
ALSO JUST LOOK AT THAT MOTHERFUCKING KISS AND HOW MAGNUS NEEDS MORE SO ALEC GIVES HIM MORE LIKE THEY ARE SO FUCKING CUTE WE ALL LOVE SHOW MALEC
Magnus and Alec deserved to have a better story in the books but cc didn’t care about them until it made her money. so with everything they did for show Malec, THANK YOU SO MUCH ✨🥹 AND WOW MATT AND HARRY HAVE SO MUCH CHEMISTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MAN I LOVE SHOW MALEC SO MUCH 😭

sometimes the whole tolkien rolling in his grave comments from both lorebros & fans alike gets me laughing because im sorry i didn’t treat this man as jesus reincarnate or seat by his grave reciting his works
like i know of casual viewers who frankly speaking don’t know and care for the lore but they’re watching the show regardless (because it’s a piece of media put out for them to consume without needing to pass some test) and they’re all joking about the messy divorce of two immortals who are still in love anyway so where do we go from here

Idk if I’ve posted about this already but I completed the Interview with the Vampire novel a few weeks ago and I can’t stop thinking about it. I definitely recommend to fans of gothic stories or have seen the adaptations 🧛🏼‍♂️

One pet peeve I have with battles in movies and TV shows is that they tend to be single engagements that are over in a matter of hours. I know a lot of it is to do with time and budget limitations, especially on TV series where battles are often confined to a single episode, but real battles can often last for days, weeks or even months. Which is why I'm excited for the Battle of Eregion because it has been described as something that is spread across multiple episodes and will last for days and take places across different fronts.

this man is pissing me off
#the ballad of songbirds and snakes#first it was with his annoying ass thoughts about the superiority of the capital and the dehumanisation of the districts#but now he's having like. NORMAL thoughts. that would be EXPECTED when living in a dystopia#he's seen two classmates die and realised it could've been him and that sejanus saying the capitol not protecting its citizens had merit#and he started acting like a decent human being about lucy gray's situation#forgetting about his own bullshit in the face of her suffering because it's clear that hers is more immediately concerning#the parallels between katniss and coryo drive me INSANE#they've both impoverished young adults who've been in survival mode trying to keep their families from starving to death#forced to actually acknowledge the real world and decide on their own sense of morality#with good influences trying to push them towards the right side#eg. katniss having gale and peeta's voices in her head when she makes a stand for rue#but i KNOW snow doesn't listen to lucy gray and sejanus#i KNOW he doesn't#i've seen the ending! so the possibility of him getting over himself and becoming better is pissing me off because i know he doesn't!!!!#it would be so much easier if he was pure evil. it would be so much less infuriating and so much less horrifying but he's not#he had the potential for goodness and instead he murdered countless people#including thousands of children and any political opponents who got in his way#AND ALSO LUCY GRAY AND SEJANUS#(lucy gray's fate is a mystery but he still chose to kill her and that at least changed HIM)#i hate this. these books are so good i HATE IT#but also some of these lines are so ironic#his tendency towards obsession is likely to kill him one day if he doesn't learn to outsmart it#almost like an obsession with the mockingjay#and calling dr. gaul crazy for her extreme measures to ensure he doesn't lie to her#when he ends up doing the exact same thing to katniss#maybe minus the overt show of violence but like. he doesn't have to. he's in her house threatening her loved ones#it's so fascinating#i want to eat it#but i won't cause i haven't finished reading yet

Annabeth Chase is the type of person to randomly quote TV shows, Movies, and Books at random just for the sake of it. Like, the gang'll be singing I Want It That Way, and Annabeth will say "Now number 5" in the chorus, and nobody knows what she's saying (except maybe Leo), or Nico will be sitting in the dark, Annabeth will walk in, turn on the light and say "happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light" and Nico will just look at her like "bro what the fuck?"
That is all, thank you
