The Album Cover Art of Punk!

Focusing mainly on a period of about ten years, roughly from 1975 to 1985, this book explores the design aesthetics of punk album covers and quite a bit more. Beginning with a few punk progenitors like The Stooges and The New York Dolls, the book quickly transitions to examples from the mid-70s, like the classic single sleeve for Sham 69’s “There’s Gonna Be a Borstal Breakout,” The Jam’s In the City, and of course The Sex Pistols. With some very loose thematic groupings (e.g. vampires, collages, glued letters, etc.) and roughly chronological, the book includes many covers from bands that are not usually considered punk bands, but they are all united by the punk aesthetic: immediate, rough, and breaking all the rules.
