The Earth Station DCU Episode 398 – Cent'Anni

This Week on Earth Station DCU! Drew Leiter and Cletus Jacobs go to Arkham as we explore the history of Carmine Falcone’s daughter, Sophia, and her journey in The Penguin. The League of Assassins searches for the ring of Ring of Jong Li which just happens to fall into the hands of a con-artist named Alan Scott in Batman: Gotham by Gaslight – The Kryptonian Age #3. Superman must stop a battleship from falling on Metropolis killing millions and in the second story, Clark is angry with Lois for sideling him reporting on Superman because he is too close to the story in Action Comics #1068. Hal Jordan must use his wits to escape Gammora Island after stealing back his drained power ring, while Carol Ferris is sent on a mission from the Tower of Fate to seek out other heroes only to discover a new Lantern of Sorrow in Green Lantern #14. John Stewart and his allies fight the last of the Radiant Dead in hopes of returning to Earth to help his mother against the Star Shroud in Green Lantern: War Journal #12. Wonder Woman and Robin Damien Wayne take turns trying to get the location of Amanda Waller’s Prison out of Captain Boomberang in Wonder Woman #12. Nightwing discovers that Robin Tim Drake has setup his own resistance group separate from the one that Dick and Babs setup. When Failsafe attacks, Nightwing helps them try to defend their Headquaters in Absolute Power: Task Force VII #4. All this plus, DC News, Shout Outs, and much, much more!

Goth by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age

A book I would not have minded as much had I known it would be the first of two parts.

Gotham by Gaslight was an interesting experiment. The first story told a grimy, down-to-earth serial killer crime story that doesn't take place too far outside the bounds of reality.

I much preferred its half-sequel Batman: Master of the Future. It updated the setting to include more pulpy, two-fisted elements in its worldbuilding, but still leaned into its own circle of characters.

I was delighted by the idea of The Kryptonian Age being an expansion on these elements, continuing to reinterpret the DC universe in the late 1800s, and I got most of this. Same parts rang of The Rocketeer or Dick Tracy, others of the best works in the Hellboy comics. It was turning up to be everything I wanted.

Then it ended anti-climatically.

I am pleased to say there will be a follow-up focusing on this version of the Justice League, and I'm going to be reading that. But I wonder if it wouldn't have been better to combine the two into a larger series, instead of splitting it so.

I won't recommend The Kryptonian Age until its sequel ends. I have enjoyed myself, and if you like Elseworlds you may enjoy this one, but I like for a story to have a conclusion before I do.

Danny might’ve maybe gone into reincarnation. Y’know, for fun! As a treat! In another world so he can return to his after this vacation with no consequences! It’ll be fun! It’ll… Oh. This… isn’t ideal. 

He’s not supposed to have most (or any) of his memories back, but apparently a clone with downloaded information does something when mixed with reincarnation. Enough that he’s curled up because his head hurts. There’s too much information for his brain, even if his Core is trying to take the edge off. 

Everything is loud, and this body hasn’t breathed before and he’s struggling to do so and- And there’s a hand on his shoulder, voices unintelligible amidst the many other sounds even with his own hands over his ears. His face is wet- tears? And he wants to go back in the tube now- 

He’s getting picked up- has he gotten picked up before? Maybe? It’s hard to untangle what he remembers from Before and what he remembers from this life. It hurts to remember things he shouldn’t be able to, so he buries his face against the bright colors and cloth that muffles the noises and tries not to cry more.

Clark remembered having a brother in the pod that was sent to earth, Danny however didn’t. Clark was 3 when the planet died but Danny was 1. Clockwork decided it was for the best that Danny didn’t remember and sealed his powers. 13 years go by and Danny gets caught in his parents portal. Another year goes by and Danny defeats Pariah Dark. Once Danny is crowned king 2 things start to happen. He starts getting powers that aren’t ghost related and his aging slows down a lot. 15 years go by and the Fentons definitely figure it out since Danny still looked 16 and had chased him for the past 10 or so years. Danny finds himself in metropolis and then comes face to face with someone who looked eerily similar to him.

Clark is confused, he found his brother but thought he’d be a bit older. Danny seemed hesitant to trust him but Clark knew he was family and was going to do his best to protect him.

Remember how Nightwing was first invented as Clark’s Kryptonian “Batman” disguise (with Jimmy Olsen as the Robin-esque Flamebird)? Imagine if they got to interact like that. Just imagine.
