Tumblr media
you prolly haven't heard it bc it's a reference I made up to a niche 2000s era ragebait meme from before ragebait properly existed. I use it as a metaphor for Growing Up In A Jar tho

Thinking about how somewhere out there there has to be a whole Brooklynn Protection Squad. Like there was someone who got her out of the forest after the dino attack. There was at least one surgeon who saved her life under the radar, because there's no way that girl was taken to a hospital for surgery and is still presumed dead. It's pretty likely there was more than one medical professional helping her out considering her injury. There's someone who gave her a place to stay, someone who helped her get computer equipment, people who are being her eyes and ears in this whole thing~
I just CAN'T WAIT to get Brooklynn's pov on everything cause I feel like there's gotta be so many new characters, and i just ~love~ a found family <333

Gillian Anderson and Kristin Lehman in The X-Files (1993) Kill Switch
S5E11
Mulder and Scully's investigation into a mass shooting in a coffee shop leads them to believe that the targets were not the low level drug dealers and wholesalers who were killed but rather Donald Geldman who had been sitting at a table working on his laptop computer. The Lone Gunmen tell Mulder and Scully that Geldman was one of the original computer geniuses who disappeared years before. His laptop leads the agents to a hacker, Esther Nairn, who goes by the name Invisigoth. She tells them of a vast government conspiracy involving artificial intelligence that allows them to see everything and take action against all enemies.
*Gillian Anderson's fight scene with the nurses is one of the actress' favorite scenes in the series.

Within months of Craven’s introduction of Banks, Craven claimed Banks had been hospitalized after dropping a KitchenAid mixer on her foot, according to both an anonymous former business associate of Craven's I spoke to, and my own past conversations with Craven. Several hours later, her leg was allegedly amputated, and nearly 48 hours after the first operation, her other leg was amputated as well. The anonymous source mentioned above claims they then contacted West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, Illinois where Banks was said to be recovering according to the source who saw this information on social media. When they contacted the hospital to send flowers, the hospital said there was no patient by that name. This resulted in the source seeking a third-party opinion due to fears of Craven allegedly misrepresenting himself and taking advantage of clients through sympathy.
A Prominent Accessibility Advocate Worked With Studios and Inspired Change. But She Never Actually Existed. - IGN
This reminds me of “The Strange Case of the Electronic Lover,” which details a very similar fraud committed by a man on CompuServe’s CB Simulator in the early 1980s.  Like, this kind of thing is pretty much as old as the social use of the Internet.
And of course the HIV+ high school AU/cannibal mermaid Hamilton fanfiction incident.

Someone on here - I don’t remember who - has a whole Appalachian!Eddie thing going and I’m rewatching all Jenna Marbles videos - currently on the era where Julien was in the background of every video but didn’t really get on camera.
Which leads me to YouTuber!Steve who is dating Rockstar!Eddie, who is constantly in the background of every video but no one knows who he is because Eddie’s label thought his accent wasn’t rock n’ roll enough and make him fake a generic American accent during all public appearances.

not to get meta on a thursday afternoon, but my roman empire is the sociological implications of digital fandom spaces, unfortunately. I find the drama surrounding Harlan's involvement with the fandom so interesting.... not even from an "i'm a fan and I'm taking a side on this !!" perspective but from a sociological "how-did-we-even-get-here-as-a-species," kind of angle. I've seen people online say that the interactive aspect of malevolent changes the typical creator-fan dynamic we're all used to, but theories like that only scratch the surface of the deeper questions we need to be asking ourselves!! Where does the line between creator and fan end in digital media if both parties actively contribute to its continuation? How does a narrative transcend the scope of its authors? At what point do creators “check out” the community? Is there a quantitative way to measure when this will happen? What is the arbitrary number of people consuming your art that requires you to stay at a safe distance? There are academics and users on here who have talked about this at a larger depth than I ever can, but ?? it's literally so fucking fascinating, and I think we are all part of a large social experiment right now.

Popped into Twitter for a second, saw a bunch of true crime enthusiasts congratulating themselves for watching enough TV that they were able to recognize how fake a (real, real, extremely real, I'm nauseous from seeing it real) photo from a kibbutz is and I'm logging right back out of Twitter.
