quantum break appreciation month: a quick retrospective

so, first of all, wow, it was WAY more effort than i thought to just POST SOMETHING EVERY DAY. i put a lot of pressure on myself to only post The Good Stuff to this blog, and boy golly is my standard of "good stuff" higher than it ought to be! so this has been great practice for me in "finished is better than perfect."

holy shit. that's a lot. i am retroactively impressed with my past self for doing all this, lmao. nice.

third of all! i wanna note that i started several projects this month that i have yet to finish. of course i'm not confining my quantum break posting to one month of the year (impossible) but i will take my time finishing the... uh... three fics and two meta essays i have unfinished, as well as the fansite i am working on. i want these to be GOOD, so i'm not going to rush them. i'm glad this month gave me to juice to finally get these projects started, though!

and lastly... why did i even do this project/event in the first place?

well... good question. i imagine i'm not the only one who has been Going Through It for a while now, and i just... really needed a big project to focus on for a while. and quantum break is like, one of the only things that i never get tired of thinking about, so... are you seeing my logic here?

all that said, i do genuinely want to work on putting more love out into the world. and i love quantum break! i want other people to love it too! (or at least, i want other people to look at my passion for it and be like "i dont go here but you keep doing your funky little thing my man," you know what i mean?)

so, big thanks to everyone who has encouraged me this month, whether it be in reblog tags, in the quantum break discord server, or elsewhere. also, big thanks to my husband, who i would not have married if not for our mutual obsession with quantum break, and who is always down to listen to me talk about my various theories and fic ideas. and finally, a big thanks to remedy, for making this dumb game that i love so so so much.

In time for Dracula Daily, I decided to reblog this with more meta and my tags from my first post.

Reading back through some tumblr posts from back when Dracula Daily just started, the posts present Jonathan as mocking the townspeople and/or being very oblivious. But that's more the proto-Jonathan from "Dracula's Guest" than the actual Jonathan we get. Our Jonathan was at first just very "wtf???" then was quickly "oh god am I going to die???"

Overall, Jonathan isn't really all that oblivious or mocking. Jonathan keeps asking questions of the townspeople about all the weird shit going on, and he rarely gets any particular good answers. Listed for convenience:

Asks the innkeepers about Dracula -- they avoid his questions (he gets nervous)

Wants to ask the townspeople more -- can't because the carriage is coming soon

Asks about the cross/rosary -- @canyourfavesurvivecastledracula has a good breakdown of Jonathan's reaction here (at the end, he is worried enough to put a "goodbye" in his journal)

While Jonathan is in the coach, the townspeople talk to coach driver about vampires and werewolves -- Jonathan makes a note to ask Dracula. Also, something that I goofed in my previous post is that Jonathan is in Dracula's castle while writing that note to himself...so there really isn't anyone else to ask.

As the coach drives away, the townspeople make the sign of the evil eye -- Jonathan asks a passenger, and eventually gets a full and complete answer! (this is his only success) (he finds the gesture sweet and worrying)

On the carriage ride Jonathan asks why the passengers can't get out and walk up the hills -- the driver gives a half-answer, which Jonathan describes as "grim pleasantry"

When they closer they get to the castle, the other passengers start be more agitated and look into the darkness and such -- Jonathan "asked each passenger" but was given not "the slightest explanation" (he doesn't note his reaction to this).

Interestingly, the one time Jonathan does not ask questions is when the passengers press gifts on him. However, he notes their "earnestness which would take no denial" and that the gifts are given in kindness and fear. Maybe he just thinks he won't get an answer, so he doesn't bother asking.

Overwhelmingly, however, he asks/wants to ask the townspeople, not Dracula, and does very much respond to their answers...or lack of them.

The line "I must ask the count about these superstitions" (and the fact that he doesn't ask them while he's there) is maybe the closest we get to him dismissing the townsfolk. But it's surrounding by Jonathan going "these people's worry for me is very sweet and also terrifies me." Their actions freak him out too much through the May 4th and 5th entries to read Jonathan as dismissing them as unimportant superstitious peasants.

Now, where Jonathan is more condescending is in the general travelogue stuff. Since atundratoadstool has said that Stoker used Round the Carpathians by Andrew F. Crosse for the Eastern Europe information, I gave the first few chapters a skim (up to chp. 4 -- I was planning to read more, but work caught up with me). Crosse actually sounds more like the narrator of "Dracula's Guest" than the Jonathan we know, though even then he is a lot harsher generally:

Crosse's complaints about lateness are much crueler: "This was my first experience with a Wallack's idea of time, if indeed they have any ideas on the subject beyond the rising and setting of the sun" (7) Crosse describes the Rromani as "little better than savages" (8) Crosse stayed at a place called the "Krone" (10), which he was all too happy to leave to stay with an Englishman who owned a goldmine (13), though this is in Hungary. Jonathan stays at the Golden Krone, and thinks it is fine enough

This passage, from when Crosse and his companions experience heavy rain during a thunderstorm, is reminiscent of "Dracula's Guest"'s narrator dismissing his own guide, though Crosse is even worse:

"The driver was a stupid fellow, without an ounce of pluck in his composition, and declared more than once that he would not go on, preferring to stop under such shelter as a the trees afforded. We were of another mind, and insisted on pushing on." (28)

Overall, Jonathan is coming off looking a lot better than both Crosse and "Dracula's Guest"'s narrator when it comes to opinions on non-British people...even if "better" is still "pretty racist."

Even so, for all Jonathan views the townspeople through the superiority of the British gaze, he does not dismiss them as superstitious know-nothing peasants. Nor does he believe the townspeople can't have anything interesting or pertinent to say (which are repeated off-hand comment I've seen made not even in posts about this section, but ones just analyzing the book's themes in general). Instead, he's pretty sure that they do know something, but he's just not sure what it is -- and they're not really telling him, even when he asks. And he doesn't have time to do anything about the little they're telling him that wouldn't risk his future in very concrete, knowable ways (ie. job loss, possibly affecting his ability to marry), compared to the vague warnings he's getting that may or may not affect his future in unknown ways.

I've started up listened to the Re: Dracula audiobook (and reading a copy of Dracula that I picked up on a whim from an indie bookstore last month), and quite a few things are sticking out to me about the first few days

Jonathan's "I must ask the Count about these superstitions" was made fun of quite a bit, both because our cultural knowledge of Dracula makes it ridiculous, and also because he seems to be trusting the nobility's knowledge over the superstitious peasants, which ties into the sense that Jonathan is dismissive of the townspeople's warnings

But he opens his May 4th entry with asking the innkeepers for information about Dracula, and they keep ducking the answers.

(and it's fair that the people in the May 4th/5th entries don't say more when Jonathan asks (and he does ask), because unless you've grown up in the shadow of a vampire literally stealing babies from your villages, it would be a pretty insane thing to tell someone).

And when Jonathan finds the innkeepers' reactions "not by any means comforting," his first instinct is to want to ask other townspeople to find out more; he just doesn't have the time to investigate because the coach is (supposed to) arrive very soon after.

Plus, the innkeeper giving him the cross very much does freak him out! His first refrain of 'if I die, goodbye Mina!' comes at the end of the May 4th entry because of the innkeeper's worry.

The people speaking of "werewolves" and "vampires" only happens after he's already sitting in the coach -- which is when he makes the "ask the Count" note (a note that he likely makes because, again, he's sitting in coach and he's about to leave the townspeople behind). They only make a sign to guard him from the evil eye after the coach has just started on its way.

Before he leaves the town, Jonathan isn't given enough of a solid reason to present to his boss -- or to his client, if the client turned out to be a human person who doesn't imprison solicitors -- if he turned around or wasted the client's time and money by refusing the "best place on the coach" on the way to the castle. Nor is he given enough time after the first warning that something is off to find that solid reason or to find alternatives.

He even comments that as much as he's enjoying the scenery on the coach, he probably would enjoy it a lot less if he'd understood what the people on the coach were saying. It's more like he's trying to distract himself from the looming sense of dread, not that he's ignorant to it.

By the time Dracula is taking him in the calèche, the coach is barely out of sight before he outright says that he "think[s] had been any alternative [he] should have taken it" instead of doing whatever the fuck is happening to him now.

It's not just that he planned to ask the Count about the superstitions, but that he also wanted to ask the people about the Count. He wants to ask the Count about the superstitions because he isn't able to talk to the townspeople more. And he wants to ask the townspeople about the Count because the little he's heard so far worries him.

But after he gets his first warning of weirdness, he doesn't have the time to investigate further, or find a way to the castle in a way that doesn't put him in the count's power. Which is probably how Dracula wanted it

Our Curious Little Beautiful Communities

Intro:

As someone who has been on tumblr since about the early 2010s, I've seen quite a few cycles and 'episodes' within our...community, if I can call it that at this point. I, myself, am usually an observer and end up being a mediator. So you will end up seeing me looking at things from both sides because this world is grey. There is no right or wrong, and each side has a point unless they're just uuuhhh ignorant. Objectively. I'm going to be discussing some issues that have been bubbling up a lot more consistently than they used to within the astrology and tarot community as of late. Warning: I talk a lot, but I'm organized. If you don't have the time or patience to read it, then dont, no big deal, or skip to what you want. For those that like to look at people through their charts: Cancer mercury, Virgo Mars, 6th House Stellium. If you like degrees, I have heavy air degrees, some of them being Libra. Like I said, I end up being a mediator a lot. Anyway, let's get into it.

Astrology

I'm going to split each section into people who consume content, and those that make it!

Consumers

Appreciation / Spreading Content

So, as you know, every website works differently in how they spread content around. Twitter & TikTok work by likes, Youtube by bias also by likes I'm sure? Insta too. Tumblr doesn't work that way. The only way you're most likely going to see something is if you head into the tag yourself, or people put something onto your feed. Which is why the reblog button is important. I'm now going to go through some popular creators and show the like to reblog ratio!

See the pattern here. Hilariously enough, despite the notes on these posts, if I don't make the usual trip into the tag, I would've never seen these posts myself. Now, on one hand if you only kinda like a post, then by all means just like it. However, what this feedback is sending us is that either this post is not good enough, or this isn't the content you guys want, etcetc. This isn't a call to 'reblog every single post you see to make us feel better!', but the responses to our posts will sort of drive our motivation in either direction. Do we want to make a long in depth post for it to barely go anywhere or just do a quick one because it's going to match the reception. Unless we really like the content we're making, the output is going to match the feedback about 6/10 of the time.

Formalities

So you found a creator that is really accurate with descriptions of placements or aspects or is willing to put in a lot of time and detail to answering asks and what-not. So you head into their inbox and hit them with a 'Moon in 5th' request. However that's the entire ask it's just the placement, a statement that's posed as a request. Please understand that on the outside/surface this may seem very easy and it's just 'you are happy when you play video game', there's more stuff that goes into than that. The creator themselves have a life outside of this website (god knows what responsibilities they have; a job, school, family, just not being tied to this place as if its a career). They will Probably want to actually give you a good response, which is more than just two sentences so not treating them as if they're a machine shooting out information would be a good start to the interaction. There's some things that could contribute to this like language barriers, but just saying 'please', or 'could you do this'--anything that. Humanizes. the person on the receiving end would be super duper great. Also, as mentioned before, spreading their work or showing appreciation afterwards Really helps the creator as well and shows that you are at least thankful or appreciative of what they did and not that you just want your goodies and you're leaving now.

Creators

Rejecting Foundation

This one is a bit. Tricky. The one thing I love about the newer generation is that they are very explorative and they dig and dig and dig until they uncover something and they do extensive research on it. They're open to new ideas and possibilities and looking at things from different angles. However, at the same time, they will completely snuff out the foundations said research is based on which is--on one hand it needs to be done because considering the way this research has been passed down and who has touched it, it's been passed through some pretty cis-heteronormative white old male hands. However at the same time, it's been documented for a reason and just needs to be viewed in a different light, and isn't that what this generation is good at doing. Let's take Venus & Mars, and LGBT+ astrology for example. We Should dismantle the very close-minded idea that Venus is how a Woman loves or pursues someone, and Mars is how a Man loves or pursues someone. I should not have to explain why this is an old-aged idea and we're already halfway through dismantling it anyway. As for LGBT+ astrology, a lot of people are hesitant when it comes to it, in terms of 'these placements could show that you are lgbt' or whatever. Besides there being some personal proof of people resonating with this theory (including me myself, but of course at the same time, not everyone will resonate either so--), you can Also just morph it and look at it from another point of view. If we are so stuck on the idea that Capricorn's influence will mean that someone is traditional, why not Aquarius' influence will make people try anything at least once. They don't necessarily have to be LGBT, but having open relationships, being polyamorous, not marrying but having a committed relationship, being married but living separately, etc. Old research is always founded in Something, but considering it's old, the viewpoint is probably just Fucked up sometimes.

Theft/Sourcing This one I am Neutral one, because it's more of something to just be aware of. Obviously, straight up theft is shitty. If a person doesn't want their content taken, don't take it. If they request credit, credit them. Very basic, simple rules to follow. At the same time though, I have noticed some people, of various status, post content along the lines of:

'I'm not sure where I got this from but-' So it gets a little blurry.

While this isn't like a detrimental issue, it's sort of like glossing over one issue and calling out another while they're both in the same pool. However, at the same time, we live in the age of the internet. Information is being shared at the speed of light and sometimes gets deleted Just as fast, so in the same sense it's understandable if that source is hard to find for you to credit them for it. The best bet for this is to just bookmark whatever you find interesting and hope for the best, or just note that if anyone remembers or knows the source of this reference, to comment on the post then? Like I said, this point is a liiitttllee blurry because it's not necessarily theft but then again it's sort of like.....awkward considering. But eh.

Now to piggyback off of the previous point, I've also noticed some people making really good observations or points, and then sliding in a '___ are manipulative, never trust them' basically. Giving off really strong uuhh:

We should be over this whole generalization thing, and letting a few bad interactions with a person blind the astrologer in you. There's a difference between making roasts about signs and just. Disrespecting people or blowing negative traits of a sign into a billboard. Remember that at the end of all this, we are all just people? So get to know someone as such before even bothering to know their chart. It helps you get better at astrology anyway. If you're surprised about how they're a certain sign or have a certain placement, look closer at their chart and see how it's playing out and figure out why. Astrology is just glamourized math.

Entitlement

Besides the many other issues that have been running rampant (don't worry, I'll talk about 'em!), I've noticed that a looot of people have been feeling mighty cocky lately, but not cocky enough to put a name to their statements. Now I'm going to be, a little bit more harsh than the other sections in this post but: if you want this service then learn the craft and do it yourself. Just like Astrology, this service takes a lot hard work and energy, and considering what type of work it is, it's exhausting. Depending on the question, the type of reading they have to do, or how deep it ends up being--the reader you're asking might need a good hour or more to get to your request. If it's free, you definitely should be thankful for their service as well. Now there's a limit, which I will get to for the creator portion, but by no means should you stomp into their ask box, make sure they know you're ashamed of them, and then leave. Either just leave or put a name to it so you guys can talk it out. You have no idea what's happening on the other side of the screen after you send in your request. You may have asked a simple question, but like I said, depending on how convoluted your mind or emotions are, the reader is picking up on that or might have to pull more cards to figure out what's going on--your energy and the situation affects them at the end of the day so be understanding, not entitled.

Dependence

Not as bad as a problem, just the normal general concern or warning. Tarot it meant to be guidance to help you Live in your current world. It's not a substitute for Anything. Your guides will absolutely stop telling you information or they will just tell you that you're obsessing over the subject if you keep looking for information (and no, this is not just about future spouses because this applies to Everything, even healing, because to do so you actually have to take steps to, you know, heal). I've mentioned this before in a response to someone, but you should try and think outside of the box when getting guidance sometimes, because guides aren't always the most direct for a reason. If you just continuously ask readers about a topic of concern or pull cards, you're still going to be stuck and you're not making any movements towards your goal so those answers, in retrospect, aren't really helping. They might help you with a different perspective the first few times, but after a while it's either going to get aggressive or you're not going to get anything. You have to live your life because as much as your guides love you, they cannot live your life for you and I Promise you, they want nothing but the best for you and they want to see you thoroughly enjoying your life. So do not use tarot as a crutch please (a video from a reader I admire on her old channel). That's why I always explicitly state that yes I am delivering the message but You Know Yourself Best.

Creators

Free Games

Yes, I want you all to take care of yourself and put yourselves first. However, that does not mean 'finish it whenever I want because it's free and you should be happy that I'm even doing this :\', that's not how that works. There will be things that get in the way obviously, and just give a heads up that you're busy, it's whatever things happen. It's Not reasonable though to just tell someone that since it's a free game, that yeah you'll get to it within a month and just relax whatever you'll be okay. Think of it like this: you're in a store like Costco or Sam's Club. A store where they give out free samples. You come up and ask if you can get one and the clerk goes sure. Then they just get on their phone while prepping the food. It's taking a bit so you walk around in the area for a moment and you come back, and they're still just. Working on it. So you're waiting a bit more and it's still not done. So you ask them what's up and they tell you that hey, it'll be done when it's done. It's a Sample Size though, right? Yeah. Now yeah, the tone of the inquiry can affect your response, and depending on the game can affect it too. There's a lot of things that can go into it, but straight up, if you don't think you can do a game or you know yourself and you're going to get bored, just don't do the game. The querents shouldn't be giving you hard trouble over it, but at the same time...? It's a lose-lose here. I'm not saying don't take time to yourself or stay offline while the game is going on, but be mindful of stuff like this and where the querent is coming from (if they aren't an ass <3).

General

Celebrity Readings (Which let's be honest I'm talking about K-pop because which massive group is out here trying to read for Ricky Martin)

Let's get CoNtRoVeRsIaL even though it's really not. This is very simple I don't understand why it's an issue. So the thing about Celebrity Readings is, the first layer is that you have your own stance and opinion on it, that's that. There was a statement by a reader (who I will list later) that said something along the lines of 'readings on celebrities can be seen as tests or training because they are public icons. They are already out there, there's not much privacy to them' something like that, which is...yeah pretty true. A general energy check or reading on them isn't necessarily harmful because it's General, and if their guides don't want you to know certain things, trust me, they won't let you know lmao. Guides are powerful, they're protective, and I'm starting to believe that some people really underestimate them. If you know your guides have your back, what makes you think that those for celebrities won't Check You. If not just straight up lie to get you off their back, because you cannot begin to imagine the amount of people trying to get ahold of their energy, manifest them, curse them, etc. Yes they're going to be insanely protective or tell you to fuck off. Especially those doing anything beyond a general check (which, most definitely isn't reliable by the way because now you're being invasive or way too specific). Speaking of which, wouldn't trust long term readings on them either. You have to remember that Celebrities have more money, connections, and resources than us. Besides their guides muddling information, they can change that reading at the drop of a hat, easier than we can. These readings are for entertainment just like the celebrities themselves, and should be left at that. Readers who deliver their readings as fact or scolding tea, know what they're doing. Consumers should Also be wary of what readers they are following. Are they saying this person is a piece of shit? Bad reader. They're saying they're perfect? Bad reader. Celebrities are just people who have a talent they can profit off of lmao. If a reader can't put some logic behind their reading, especially those associated with corporations who love to abuse parasocial relationships which are the real enemy here, then they're a bad reader. Of course I'm not perfect--I get bored and put some on in the background when I need noise, but I can pick up on who's embellishing or just wants views. There are two readers I came across that I don't always agree with, but they're the most tolerable and usually accurately predict things and those are the ever so popular Antphrodite & Trinity Oracles (it's ok to disagree with the people you like or admire always remember that!). I could go on for hours about this but honestly the bottom line is just...use your brain lmao. Also, as a note, it's more reliable to go off of their birth charts anyway, especially for long term things. However, I Don't Blame these people for being hesitant or Never dropping their birth times because think about how easily you can read someone off of a birth chart. Especially a Good reader. Would you want to drop yours in a climate like this.

'Future Spouse' Readings

So. Hm. So the thing is I can understand the frustration with the overwhelming amount of spouse readings considering I'm grey-spec, because I also used to feel that way, but here's the thing: constantly doing shadow work is fucking tiring lmao. For people who are able to read, I know part of it is this weird idea that people after 21 just die on social media and we don't exist but fun fact hi we do! Not everyone asking or reading about these are 17, as your go-to complaint is. You can also just make other readings if you have the time, which is what I did because I want other readings LMAO. but like i was saying ABOUT that though: if you are someone who is constantly going through transformations, looking at your flaws and seeing how you can overcome them, going within and all of that--doing it for other people, 4-5 piles at a time is fucking tiring. Sitting there, deciphering the issue, walking through it, and then becoming a therapist multiple times through the year for free, sometimes I want to have my head empty and just talk about an imaginary little person and about their energy and write a little wattpad fiction for someone and have good energy for a moment because at the end of the day we are all dust...having light-hearted energy after all of that...murkiness, is Very nice its Very good. Now, also at the same time, there's an inherent issue with the heteronormativity of spouse readings where sometimes the reader assumes its a female reading and the spouse is always male, or the central idea of 'spouse' may turn away people who aren't that attached to marriage but still want to read about their forever lover, etcetcetc. Now besides the whole obsession thing, my only legitimate worry is that people should remember that Divorce exists, and what we are reading is an Energy, and multiple people are picking the same pile as you. There are no exact copies of pile #3s just running around waiting for you. Also, in another sense, shouldn't you also be worried about next partner readings too. If we have to do the work to reach our spouse, that work would also include lessons in love so technically really we shouldn't be doing Any prediction readings (like in general) because that takes a lot of the learning away from us and I had a Very long conversation with an ex-cw of mine about this so, again, I could go on for hours but Anyway--Once again, just...think rationally lmao. There are readings that I wouldn't put Too much emphasis on (like 'how would my fs react to me sneezing' or something), but also like, you want to read something cute you want to read something cute. For readers, you can only warn people so much. If the cards stop you from reading or you Clearly get the message that someone is obsessed, relay it. However if it doesn't come up sometimes people just want to know because there's Nothing Else they're worried about or need a reading on lmao, it's not that deep. If you give the warning and they ignore it, then well. I guess their guides will teach them well enough. Can't really hold everyone by the hand can we.

for a long time my personal brand was the friend that loved glitter vfx and makeup in general, ofc i would go all out and leave trails of glitter everywhere lmao also i like having a url that is recognizable but not fandom affiliated

My 2020 Fics In Review

As a new smut fanfic writer who started posting Oct 2020, I was curious what type of results my various fics got and what certain things can do for a fic’s results. I post to both Ao3 and Tumblr at the exact same time as so I’ll be using data from both. 

I’m sure a lot of people don’t care about this but I did it for fun and to see if I could learn anything to improve myself. It will be a mess.

I’ll keep everything under a Keep Reading since it can be a bit long and also has my commentary on the results. Results will come first with my thoughts on the bottom.

Most Popular Fic for 2020: The Perfect Gift [Hawks | Keigo Takami]

I’m not surprised by this while also being surprised. 

Being my last fic of the year, my own following I had more to build on than my other fics. I also had a TON of reblogs for this by other fic authors with a following of their own and I posted on Hawk’s birthday. So, results occurred.

However, the fact that it blew up that much in fives days shocked me.  

Interesting note Second place goes to my one and only dark fic: Father Figure: Punishment [Eraserhead | Shouta Aizawa] 

This fic is my entry into the darker content scene and it takes second place for popularity!!! Goes to show... dark content is both enjoyed and supported by many people. So, all ya keep at it. I plan to.

My Thoughts

Let’s start with Tumblr.

My first take away is, sadly, OCs get a lot less love than Readers. I understand that it can make it easy to insert yourself into the story mentally but I’ve always preferred a good OC story. 

There is just some stuff that a reader fic can’t cover. I have stories with OCs because they need personal names or physical descriptions for the plot of the story. I wish OC had more love like it did when I was younger.

However, I am also very willing to do Reader stuff - as you can see - and will do so. I just hope that when I do another OC story it will get more love. 

I’m so sad about how little love ‘All Grown Up’ got, it’s personally my favorite fic from the year. I could probably remake it as Reader and 2nd person, I just made it OC/3rd because it felt like a better choice for the plot at the time.

My next notice is, and this one is well known, REBLOGS matter. All my top ranking fics also had a ton of reblogs. I love seeing a like, knowing someone enjoyed the story, but a reblog can make such a difference in getting noticed.

Timing Matters. My top fic got a lot of notice because it was reblogged but also because it was posted on Hawks bday. Same goes for Shouta’s Present. Use special days to your advantage.

Next, Ao3.

First, I was surprised at the ranking differences between the sites. I think this is due to how much easier it is to find a fic on ao3 with their searches. This isn’t a huge surprise, it is a site made for fanfics so of course it’s easier to find something than tumblr but I still expected a similar result.

Next, People don’t like as much compared to viewing the fic itself. I tend to see a 1:10 ratio for kudos to hits. Some people don’t like looking at hits due to this, thinking people don’t enjoy the fic after reading. 

However, my take is that I like hits as well as kudos since I’ve been told by a few of my readers that they come BACK to read stuff so kudos doesn’t always show the real love. 

There are plenty of re-reads but I also think some people just don’t hit kudos because of their own reasons. I see the hits number as what it is, someone read the fic and that makes me happy.

Again with comments, it’s better but I think that is only due to the fact I have a big chuck at the bottom of each fic asking the reader to comment. LLF Comment Project to thank for that. 

In the end though

I've been meaning to ask this for a while, but do you have any song or album recommendations for Apulanta? So far I've only heard Toinen jumala and Lokin päällä lokki. Absolute bangers, but I've always had a hard time listening to new songs for some reason. Guess it's a comfort zone thing? Also, do you have any other Finnish band recommendations? I just think the language sounds pretty.

No really, I had to look for the song Toinen jumala because I remember it exists but I think it was just some special release that was not on any studio album - they do those sometimes - I am not even sure if I have listened to this song before :D But it sounds incredible!!!

Anyway, both of those songs are in their nu-metal style. And the song and album recommendations really depend on what you want from music. They have a quite long history - the band was founded in 1991 and they have been through lots of changes what comes to their musical style - still somehow they have managed to sound like Apulanta for all these years and I don’t know any other band that would sound exactly like them. No song on an album is like the other and you can’t listen to just one song and think you have heard the whole album now. (Sounds familiar eh? :D) Anyway, I’d say they kinda went from punk to “melodic minor key pop” - that is an actual description of their first album, which didn’t sell as well because they made what they thought people wanted to hear instead of what they wanted to play (but I love the album too!) - and then back to punk after almost breaking up because people didn’t like them that much. From punk rock they evolved to alternative rock, to a bit harder nu-metal sounding music. In 2004 their bassist left the band after 7 albums, and this is the time when I kinda grew out of their music and stopped listening to them.

I found the newer music only last year or something, I was never interested in it because it was too metallic for me and the songs I heard from the radio were either uninteresting or too slow for me. But that was a mistake I made because I literally judged the whole albums based on just a few single songs and those did not tell the truth of the albums. I really learnt to like those albums, but my favorites will be forever their first 5 albums.

So I see you have now heard only newer songs. I don’t really even like Lokin päällä lokki, because I have never understood nu-metal. Explains why I wasn’t that much into their albums Heinola 10 (6th, 2001) or especially Hiekka (7th, 2004). Heinola 10 still has several very awesome songs but I have never really gotten behind Hiekka, even today.

So, shortly: if you want punk, listen to Ehjä (2nd, 1996) or Kolme (3rd, 1997). If you prefer alternative and a bit more metallic rock, also accompanied with string instruments, then go for Aivan kuin kaikki muutkin (4th, 1998) or Plastik (5th, 2000). Plastik is actually my favorite album of all these, but I’m also love Ehjä and Kolme, and am very fond of their first album: Attack of the A.L. People (1995). They also have tons of great b-sides so the single compilation albums are great too.

From the newer albums the lates 2 are my favourites and I actually like to divide their history into two: old Apulanta (1991-2004) and new Apulanta (2005->), mainly because I was a fan when I was 9 yeras old and old Apulanta was a part of my childhood, but then I had a pause and found them again in 2008 or 2009, and started listening to the “new Apulanta albums” for the first time pretty much a decade later.

This is the song that peaked my interest after years, it was the first punk sounding new AL song I had heard ever since their late 90s era and I liked this song a lot and it still slaps!!! The song is called Zombeja! and here’s it’s music video too:

For other band recommendations - there’s plenty of bands but it really depends on what is the genre and other things you’re going for. I don’t think I can put too many videos in one so I can e.g. reblog this post with videos from other bands I like - I’m not too fond of Finnish music as it’s mostly metal or boring Finnrock and I don’t like those really. Or you can also send another ask where you specify what you would like to hear so I can try to find something that’d match that.

OLDER STUFF:

Systeemi kusee - from their punk era. At this point they still had two singer-guitarists. The title means “The system sucks”.

ATTACK OF THE A.L. PEOPLE:

Here’s my favorite song, Aurinkoon (”To the sun”), with a video where it’s a playback but for some reason the recording is not in sync at all but I can’t find a better video of this at all. I think someone filmed it from a dvd from tv screen.

Päivästä toiseen (”Day after day”), no words, it’s a bit slow but I think it’s really pretty!

EHJÄ:

...silti onnellinen (”...still happy”). The second and third album were very similar but not in a bad way.

Mitä kuuluu? was the hit that was their breakthrough. It was first released on an ep called “Hajonnut”, “Broken” in English, and they were going to break up if it didn’t work. But it did work, better than ever, so they stayed together and that’s why the second album was named as Ehjä, “Intact”.

KOLME:

Mitä vaan (”Anything”) is one of my favorite songs still day, of all time.

Mato (”Worm”), this is hilarious. I love the lyrics but unfortunately can’t translate them right now :D

AIVAN KUIN KAIKKI MUUTKIN:

Hallaa/008 (”Frost”) is just so. good. Also the video is interesting, it’s very gore and has nothing to do with the song itself :D Their old bassist directed all of these old videos of theirs.

Teit meistä kauniin/007 is one of their most famous songs. On this album they didn’t give the songs any titles, they gave only numbers to them and because of that I still am not entirely sure what are all the songs on the album. I don’t have names for them and I only remember the single releases and other songs that ended up having names in public. It’s interesting.

PLASTIK:

Käännä se pois (”Turn it away”), I just... this is very similar to the next song but I love them both - this might be the one whose audio I remember from my childhood.

Odotus (”Waiting”), I remember this music video from my childhood. It’s my only actual memory of the time when I was a “fan” of them. The actor in the video was in a Finnish soap opera (that my mom didn’t let me watch but I watched it was my cousins’) and I was very confused of why he was in the video and if it was him. Somehow didn’t understand what an actor is.

Terä: with a video but low quality OR better audio but no video, I’m linking this only because it’s one of my favorites and really shows how this album can yet again be so diverse!

Ei yhtään todistajaa, this just slaps and also has a cool video for it.

Maailmanpyörä (”Ferris Wheel”), absolutely one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. EVER.

I know that's the name you used to go by and I know you've kinda disconnected yourself from Viv's fanbase after ZP ended, and I remember your memes and such but I kinda just wanted to get your take on the Hazbin drama since you reblogged the headcanon blog's post on the subject. More or less regarding the issue of her being uncharitable to fans and non-fans alike, plus that one callout post on twitter?

So this is weird. I wasn’t expecting to get asks on the subject since like you said, I’ve generally been disconnected from the fanbase aside from the few reblogs here and there retaining to Hazbin and its more recent developments. But yeah I guess I could give my take on this since I mean.. old fans still follow me. Idk why, but they do!So, really. In regards to that callout post (which is now deleted) I really, really don’t care that much. For one thing, Initially I did because I really hated to see someone be slandered so viciously with inaccurate and uncharitable attacks, but I kinda just stopped because even when I linked the addresses from both Viv, and the Ken dude regarding all the drama mentioned, it was either ignored and resulting in me being called a “pedo sympathizer” or “It wasn’t even an apologyyyyy weh” and like, whatever. I stopped giving a shit.

Terms of the traced animation thing... Lol, ok. I mean homages do exist, and her animation thingy was based on a meme so whatevs.

Anyways,I knew from the very start that the whole “tracing” and “stealing designs” stuff was nonsense since there was an entire like, tumblr drama arc on the issue, and albeit Viv’s post is gone, there’s evidence of legal contracts regarding Jiji and that whole nonsense that was years ago. In regards to her drawing pictures of Blaire White and Shoe… Eh. I mean, yeah, fuck em, but she’s made it clear that she doesn’t support those views anymore, and she wasn’t even really aware of the other things they’d done at that point, and I see no real reason not to believe her because what does lying about that gain her? Yeah her comment on the “blackface” thing if you wanna call it that was dumb as shit, but considering 2016 was a rough year for her in terms of trying to find where she fell in the political sphere, I can relate because I was in the same boat. A lot of sjw cringe comps, shaming feminists, and purposely misgendering transpeople… Not a good time for me either! Course I’ve changed. I went from being a reactionary alt-centrist to an anarchist so. Whether that’s an improvement is up to you.

As for the whole pedo/zoo shit, I really don’t see it. I mean like, look, obviously porn art portraying people fucking feral animals is disgusting right. Not saying it isn’t problematic or anything, but to be fair, she did draw this shit like 8 years ago. I’ve seen worse from even more well-established artists and I don’t see people trying to cancel them? Also, the art was suggestive for one thing and not necessarily 100% porn. I mean it’s still creepy and gross, and I’d understand scolding them if they continued to do so but a lot worse, but I haven’t seen anything like that from Viv past those 2 drawings. As for the pedo shit… The relationship between a 17 year old and a 19 year old is… hardly creepy and reminiscent of pedo shit. So yeah no fuck that. Now with the drawing of Mirage and Kestrel and the tag that said something jokingly like “Mirage and her pedo tendencies” or whatever… Yeah idk, I can’t defend that lmfao. Again, Viv said she disapproves of those drawings and doesn’t care to think about them, but that one piece of artwork definitely had some baggage to it that made me feel uncomfortable after reading the tags.Only issue I took in terms of her addressing that, is that she was very adamant about it being an inside joke… Which if that’s true, you must’ve had some fucked up friends like damn.

I would also like to state that cub art is legitimately disgusting and I am of the belief that it can cause harm depending on the context since I assume the consumption of cub art can reinforce the urge for pedophiles to act on their desires instead of finding healthy coping mechanisms for it through therapy. There have been stories from younger users on the internet that older people have tried to groom them and have the notion of pedos preying on them be normalized by sending them art depicting kids in sexual acts with adults. Of course in isolation cub art isn’t as harmful as the actual act of raping a child, and I would argue that people have their priorities kind of messed up since the illustration being acknowledged should be part of combating pedophiles preying on children. However, people, typically twitter wokescolds tend to focus on the art solely and I don’t know why. There’s a lot of MAPS trying to find their way into LGBT spaces and it’s fucking gross.

Now with Hazbin itself… It’s meh. Initially I watched it with rose-tinted glasses and loved it. After watching it for like… the 3rd, 4th, 5th time? It’s alright. I don’t hate it, but it’s far from perfect. Now ofc I know it’s a pilot but a very lengthy pilot I’ll say. My biggest gripe with the pilot is that the editing is really fucking weird. Like the editing where Angel tells Alastor “I can suck yah dick!” and the scene that followed was really off. It seemed like too many cuts were made in that instance and seemed very cluttered. It also feels that way during Charlie singing “Inside Every Demon is a Rainbow” and how many little animated bits were like almost wiped off the screen by how fast it came by, and ntm there was just so much happening all at once on screen as well. I had to pause at points just to process everything that was happening. The palette is also very, very, verrrry red. There’s so much red going on and like… I get it, it’s in hell. But lemme rest my eyes on something else besides red, please. The palette they use needs to be better diversified, and the same goes for the characters too. Every character seems to have red on them. Whenever Baxter shows up later he’s gonna look really out of place. Some of the jokes were ok, and others seemed non-clever. I didn’t think Angel’s joke about sucking Al’s dick was funny. I did like the joke with Pentious and Angel though. “SON??” Some of it could’ve been written better too.

Regarding the drama with the show itself… Personally I don’t get it. Like, I don’t feel as if Angel is homophobic as a character since his queerness isn’t at the face of the jokes he makes? He just happens to be sex worker which… sex workers are fine? Support sex workers y’all, seriously. There’s also nothing intrinsically wrong with being sexually active either? As long as it’s within reason and you’re being trustworthy.The issue lies in the fact that people viewed the things I just mentioned as negative, and associate it with gay people as said negatively portrayed thing to push the sentiment of “Gay man do sex a lot therefore the gays bad” or that sort of thing. Also there’s a bit where it shows there’s more emotional depth to him and I’m hoping they’ll expand on that later. Honestly though, the criticisms in regards to that have been pretty uncharitable. Same with the criticisms for Vaggie. Apparently Vaggie is racist because… she’s loud and angry? Again, this is a case where people assume those traits are negative, and because it’s assumed to be negative, the negatively portrayed thing pushes the sentiment of “Being a loud fiery woman made, and latina women are that, therefore latina women bad” or some shit.  There are stereotypes that are bad no matter what the context is like sambo-esque caricatures of black people. Then there are tropes that are applied to certain demographics that have the capability to be written well into characters without it being offensive or disrespectful. Vaggie is literally angry because she’s protective of her gf. Like. C’mon.

So, I think that settles what I think about that? It honestly seems like superficial shit to me tbh, and I’m saying this as an sjw-y beta cuck anarchist.

The only REAL gripe I have, is with what the mod from @zpheadcanons posted. Because I know this is probably true as much as it hurts me to say it. Faust def has a history of being pretty petty and bully-like to people she deems undesirable, and Viv harbors it by not criticizing it, and if anyone else within their friend group does it then you’re scolded vehemently and treated like garbage. Her attitude also stretches to harboring an audience full of white knights that I personally don’t approve of.

If you don’t make an effort to criticize abusive behavior within your own friend circles then that makes you just as bad, because then you’re just a bystander to things you could have prevented.

This isn’t to say Viv herself hasn’t dealt with bad faith actors, or people who had the intention to hurt her, or very uncharitable criticism. Particularly from the badwebcomics forums which is honestly 4chan like in how they operate. It’s vicious as hell, and a lot of their criticisms boil down to insults and personal attacks, which serve to be nonconstructive. That’s not to say Viv has been kind to even the more charitable criticism though. I know because when I happened to send an ask to the zoophobia criticism blog (where did it go???) regarding something relatively minor and superficial, she blocked me from her blog. I’m still blocked lmfao. I’m not blocked on twitter though! (not yet anyways). Faust has me blocked there though, and I have no idea why. She’s had me blocked for years even though I haven’t spoken out against her till recently. So, there’s that.

As for her apology itself, I feel like it was fine. I think it could’ve been worded better? The take I disagree with in terms of that is like… If I made a mistake in the past, and I make it clear that I don’t care for what I did, I don’t feel as if me explaining why I felt compelled to do certain things negate me from still not caring for my past actions? That’s just me providing context. That’s a really weird take, but I guess that could be viewed as an excuse idk. Personally I think people are holding the bar super high to a state of irrationality.

So i’ve been sitting here for far too long, procrastinating about whether or not i should hit post and admit defeat, or hit delete and hope a miracle happens. I’ve added this sentence in after i’ve written the post and just before i go make a cup of tea, if you see this post it means i’ve decided i’ve hit rock bottom.

I know i haven’t been on tumblr much for the past few weeks. I drop in and out, reblog a few things, occasionally (like, once in a blue moon) actually post something original, but that’s like as rare as rocking horse shit. I brush it off by saying “Sorry, i’m busy with work!”. But that’s only really half - or less - of the story.

I’m self employed. Something that suits me because since my diagnosis to confirm my Aspergers, i feel i couldn’t work as part of a team anymore, i need to be in control and the only way to do that is to work for myself. I make craft things and do a bit of everything; sewing, papercraft, crochet... hell, i’ve just started making jewellery. All this helps me stay focused and keep my Aspergers under control. It also means i can seek private counselling for the Aspergers, along with support for my Post Natal Depression. 

Now for the crux of my problems; Etsy. 

I sell through Etsy as when i first started selling, it was a fantastic site to sell your handmade crafts. People appreciated the time and work (and materials) that went into it, and understood simple things like to get a quality product you need to pay for shipping. Now... well... Etsy is becoming more corporate. It doesn’t work like Ebay or Amazon, if you type in a search, the top search results aren’t the cheapest, or the items ending soonest or most recently listed... oh no, Etsy favors whichever sellers follow their ‘suggestions’ on how to sell. Things like buzz words, or additional photos, most ‘liked’ shops. And now; Etsy is pushing to offer free shipping. I have no idea why. And its not something i can offer. Everyone knows that if you offer free shipping, you basically have to bump up your price for the actual goods, so it’s never actually free. So what’s the point? My shipping costs are pretty much that - at cost. I don’t make profit on them as it covers the price of stamps/couriers, and for the packaging. But because i haven’t cowed down to Etsy’s ‘suggestions’ i’m now coming bottom in any search results. And its had a huge impact on my income.

So here’s my problem; although i don’t earn much, i (usually) bring in enough to contribute to about 1/5 of the household bills, and i cover a personal credit card that i use sparingly for things like my treatment, Superpups school fees/uniform costs etc, and things when i take Superpup to classes or after school clubs. I knew this month was going to be tight, so i pulled the spending in a lot more - i wouldn’t have a coffee as i sat at his club, instead i’d bring a water from home, or i’d pack snacks rather than buying him a snack afterwards. But as the days and weeks went on, the sales just went dead. Then i got this months credit card bill in;

£181.36. It doesn’t sound like much in the grand scheme of things. But then look at my income for this month;

I’ve tried everything. I’ve put things up for sale on facebook sites, things like old toys that Superpup doesn’t play anymore. Some old collectable stuff from movies of the 2000′s that i had been keeping, but nothing has sold. Hubby is having to cover my 5th of the household bills this month, so now i need to find basically £180 in two weeks.

I don’t like begging. I try and support others where i can, but i’m stuck. Sure, i could make the minimum payment and hope that next month is better, but its a high interest card and the interest will be way more than the minimum payment is, plus i’ll have this months expenditure to cover too. I’m going to have to skip my treatment this month, but i can’t pull Superpup out of school. He still needs his things.

ClexaCon: Day 1

Okay, Let me attempt to do something like organize my thoughts here. Photos will come later, ones that come at all; mostly there are professional photos, videos, and gifs available of the noteworthy moments, and I intend to reblog a lot of those later. In the meantime, my photos are on my phone, and the Tumblr app is eating anything I attempt to post with photos.

So. I’m going to try to do this chronologically because it’s how I tried to organize my brain, and I feel clearer than I have in a while. Panel titles or events in bold. Fandom and personal stuff is included, multishipping probably rampant because I just want my faves happy, alright???

Under the cut because long. Day 1 only because long, and because by time I got near the end of typing this, it was after midnight and I was getting less coherent.

Exploring Gender through Cosplay

As often as I cosplay, mine are fairly casual, and I’d never actually gotten a good chance to attend a cosplay panel of any sort with a clear mind. This was pretty awesome, all the different things you can do to change not only the costume but also your appearance, really make the cosplay work. A lot of the sentiment/message besides the practical application stuff was just “have fun, don’t be an ass, think about the character.” All good advice.

One of the panelists was visibly uncomfortable with his cosplay during the panel. It was understandable, but he looked great anyway and still gave great information and asides and personal experiences, and I’d love to see him do a panel where he’s more comfortable.

One Day at a Time

Okay, so one of the things I LOVE about this con and haven’t seen at the couple others I’ve been to is the intro videos. For each of the big panels, they’ve played a video beforehand, about the pairing or the character. If you’re rusty on the details, it’s a great refresher, and if you love the character or pairing, it’s just fantastic to watch. I believe they included these and the actress reactions in the official videos they’ve been posting. They’re great, super shippy, and I’ve teared up or cried at more than one.

ODAAT is one of the ones that made me teary, because it touched on Elena and her Papi and then how happy she and Syd are and just...

Emotions, y’all. I’ve got them.

Anyway, it was great. Isabella seemed pretty comfortable speaking, very aware of her presence and her platform. Sheridan was a little more like Syd, a little awkward and a lot geeky (like most of my favorite people, let’s be real). My takeaways from this panel were basically just that they both love Schnider and working with his actor, and that I ship Syd and Elena even harder now.

An executive producer got a call during the panel, and Isabella thought maybe it was about being picked up by a different network, but it ended up being Rita Moreno calling in, which was fantastic except how disappointed Isabella was. Not that she was unprofessional or pouty or anything, just there were a few moments of almost being able to FEEL how much this cast wants the show to keep going, and how much they love each other.

Avalance

Omg. I mean, okay, if you’re following me, you should probably go watch both Avalance and Nyssara panel videos. They’ll do a much better job of relaying anything factual than I will, so I’m mostly focusing on my reactions.

My reactions started with that damned intro vid, because holy hell, Sara and Ava are hot, and have awesome chemistry, and they’re both smart and strong and amazing and I am so, so, so not straight.

Highlights for me, in no particular order.

Okay, usually celebs look like people in real life, like real people or like their characters. Caity Lotz is MORE attractive in person than she is on tv. HOW THE FUCK IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE

Jes is kinda amazing as a person and actress and I intend to watch everything she’s in after this weekend. She cares deeply, which I know she shares with Ava, but unlike Ava who hides behind the professional shield, Jes just seemed so warm and real and disbelieving of how much people like her. She was having a very emotional day because she’d lost someone she cared about, and when she shared that, I doubt there was a dry eye in the room. The depth of her feeling was almost palpable.

Jes kept reaching out and touching Caity, who was much more physically reserved just in general. Caity is very obviously more familiar with the con circuit, which doesn’t mean she doesn’t care or anything! Just, how many of these could any living person do while still caring deeply and genuinely about every person they talk to? I suspect people have to distance themselves some eventually. Caity wasn’t cold, just more reserved.

Katrina interrupting was the best thing ever. It’s been giffed already. Go find it.

I loved hearing about the tango, about navigating a situation where there are two women who naturally want to take the lead. The lines blurred between where they were talking about themselves as actresses navigating a scene and their characters as people navigating a relationship, and it felt very real and lovely. Hilarious, too, because of course everyone in the Arrowverse (excuse me, Beeboverse) is gorgeous AND smart AND funny.

I’m glad they’re not really broken up I guess? The actresses seemed a little unsure because they filmed a lot of different takes with some differing implications, but they’re not on board with the “on again, off again” thing any more than I am, which is good. On is good.

End of the panel, people sitting behind us (oh! chronological order! I made a friend waiting in line for the ODAAT panel and we’ve mostly stuck together this weekend. She’s not LGBT and hasn’t watched any of the shows but she loves PEOPLE and is trying to learn and has had a lot of cool life experiences. Anyway. If I say “we” or “us” I probably mean me and friend, unless otherwise specified.)

Uh. Right. So. The people sitting behind us were like, “Hey, do you two want tickets to Cocktails for Change?” At first I thought she was trying to sell them, and I already knew I couldn’t afford that, just like I couldn’t afford the Caity/Jes/Katrina photo op I wanted (not complaint, just statement of fact! I got to go and I got to buy the photo op with Caity and I got a hotel room for a couple nights). Then she clarifies that she and her person (I’m gonna go with that when relationship isn’t clear. But oh, the number of happy wlw couples there was just amazing, and at some point I defaulted to assuming anyone there together was together, which wasn’t accurate, but it’s what I was seeing and delighting in and WE NEED MORE REPRESENTATION and omg keep a single train of thought, Kita). The two of them had bought two extra tickets they couldn’t use, couldn’t refund, and hadn’t been able to sell, so they were offering them to us so that somebody would enjoy them.

OMG. Like, who does that? What level of awesomeness to gift two separate $250 tickets to complete strangers??

I helped friend navigate the transfer process and helped her create an eventbrite account, and then we had the tickets, at which point I actually believe it was happening. And then AND THEN

Photo Ops

Got the photo op with Caity first. I’ll do pics separately after I scan them; they’re particularly glossy or something and my cell phone is doing a horrible job. So I go in dressed in my femme Snart cosplay, have enough presence of mind to ask (or point? I may have only managed pointing) to stand on her right side because I wanted to be able to hold the cold gun in my right hand.

and did I mention fucking gorgeous beyond belief and amazing to boot? 

Anyway. She’s also smiling much bigger in my pic with just her than in the next one, when I didn’t have my gun, and I like to think it’s because she still thinks fondly of snart. Captain canary 4eva. Another thing on Saturday I’ll get to in my next post, equally small but equally “omg yessss she still ships it” to my mildly obsessed brain.

Obviously, after they took the pic, I walked blindly in the wrong direction and would’ve walked smack into the makeshift wall if the volunteers hadn’t steered me in the right direction. I don’t usually get star struck, but if it was going to happen, it was going to be with Caity Lotz, so it wasn’t actually a surprise.

Round two, trio photo, and I ended up between Caity and Katrina, who draped herself on my shoulder as she often does for pics. I’ll get to Katrina more for Day 2, but she just seemed very at ease, maybe the most comfortable person in any given room.

After photo ops I practically ran back to my car while still trying to recover, checked into and got settled into my hotel room, changed shoes (omg, as good as those boots are for a couple hours, after ten hours and two miles and lots of standing, my feet STILL hurt day+ later), and then headed back to the venue.

Cocktails for Change

So this was cool just to exist in a room with the celebrities (the theory behind the event and the price tag being you get to interact). We (friend and the people who gave us the tickets and a 5th potential friend we picked up while waiting in line) got to talk to an actress from Wynona (which I apparently badly need to watch. my to-watch list doubled this weekend), and then friend got Jes to agree to come over. That made me love Jes even more because her handlers kept trying to get her to go a different direction after she talked to one table for like half of the time, and Jes pointed at our table, strong and confident and I AM DOING THIS BECAUSE I SAID I WOULD.

I mean, idk what she actually said, but that was her not-subtle body language.

It had to be terribly frustrating for the handlers, who, even though they only got her to three tables total, did a better job with her than they did with most of the celebs. However, I wanted to applaud Jes.

Most of the celebs kept to themselves, or to their partners. Dot was like 5 feet from me for a good 20 minutes, and my inner gleek was ecstatic. Amber Benson was only a few feet farther for about the same amount of time. For her, I actually tried to go say hi, but she was absorbed in conversation with someone else and I didn’t want to interrupt. We made eye contact, though, so that was cool. Katrina, meanwhile, kinda starting circling and then was just like “Nah,” and she went and sprawled on a chair at the side of the room, again the most comfortable looking person there, and just let everyone come to her. Which, honestly, probably would be my recommendation if they change things for this event next year. Clearly, steering the talent to different tables isn’t working, so maybe steer the attendees instead.

Still, it was awesome, and I went back to my room and freaked out about OMG HOW IS MY LIFE THIS AWESOME before crashing hard.

Oh hey cool thank you! I actually got a few of these so if I can think of more things, I might answer another one later too. I probably won’t do them all, but thanks to everyone who sent them. Also, these aren’t in any order other than when I thought of them. (Oh god, I got very very wordy here, sorry. I tend to either not say anything at all or ramble and there is no in between.)

My dog, Tinkerbell. (We just call her Tink.) She’s a tiny Chihuahuaand she is the derpiest thing I have ever seen. She really old and she has like no teeth, so her tongue always hangs out. She just :p constantly. I love her so much even though we only inherited her from my great aunt 2 years ago or something like that? When we got her she was so scared of literally everything, but she’s gotten much more relaxed, especially around me. She sleeps with me and I’m the one who gives her love and attention the most. I just love her so much.

YouTubers. Honestly YouTube has helped me so much? I can’t even put it into words properly. (Though when can I ever word well) For one, it gives me something to do and something to watch when I need. Whenever I’m sad or angry about something I can just sit and watch someone miles away playing some game and having fun and saying dumb things that always make me laugh, no matter the mood I’m in. Whenever I am sick and don’t feel well, they always make me feel so much better. I don’t want to know where or how I’d be right now if I hadn’t started watching it. Just thinking about all the work they go through just to make content for people like me and how sweet all of them are is so amazing to me. Plus without them, I wouldn’t have found the next point and wouldn’t even be here where I am on Tumblr. I love them.

The BPS Discord Server. And all the friends I’ve made there. I’m so glad I joined and stayed. Everyone is so nice and supportive of everyone and it’s really great. Seeing everyone talking and interacting with each other is so nice and actually joining in myself? It’s so amazing to be part of this community, it really is. Plus, I think it’s gotten me out of my shell quite a bit? I haven’t used Discord since being in the server I got Discord for. It was for some online game and after being there for a while I was talking and out of my shell for a while till the Server shut down. So it’s really nice to have that again, because it’s so important for me. Love you guys~!

Content Creators. Specifically ones on here and the discord, I really love seeing what others make. I’ve always really loved others art and it’s so cool to see everyone posting original and even fan stuff. I had two close artist friends in middle school and I loved seeing what they made so much. In fact, I still have a bunch of drawings that one of them would give me that I would carry around at school and sometimes show people them. I still cherish them to this day. I’ve never been much of an artist myself aside from when I was pretty little and did stuff for school. The most artsy thing I used to do is coloring in coloring books, which is much easier. So it still just amazes me how people can think about something and just bring it into existence. Like they take this completely black page and make it into something so cool? Same goes for writings and stories, they are so amazing and great to read. I’ve gotten out of the habit of reading like actual books so having things to read still is so great, and for free? People make all these amazing things for absolutely nothing in return and still have the gall to like apologize for it not being good or fast enough? It’s so crazy. I could talk forever about how cool it is, so I’ll stop now and spare you. I seriously love everyone’s creations.

Writing. Even just things like this are just so therapeutic for me? I never really liked writing in Language Arts and such in school because apparently I have trouble putting my thoughts into words and onto paper. But typing is so much better for some reason? Most of the time I ramble on to try and get my point across better, but I love it so much. Especially writing stories. Over the years I’ve started so many little original stories that will probably never see the light of day, but I enjoy it. I started writing in the 5th grade when I decided I was going to write a novel, loosely based on my life back then. (Plus one of my friends helped quite a bit with the story part.) Looking back it was just some dumb daydream love story because I used to have the biggest crush in elementary and middle school. But I’m so glad I started writing it because I wouldn’t be writing today without it. I had so many different little parts written of it and I still have most of them. I was looking back at them a while ago and they are so bad and cringey, but they made me happy back then and they still kind of do, even if they are all pretty horrible. Alright, I’ve ranted too long now but I just love writing things, even if I’m not good at it.

Baseball Jargon Glossary

This is specifically for my WinterHawk Big Bang fic, Love Pitch, but if anyone else wants to reblog this or needs to look something up then go for it. More complicated stuff (like OPS, WAR, or BABIP) won’t be listed because it either didn’t have relevance in the fic or I purposefully steered away from it in-fic because it’s complicated.

Everything’s listed alphabetically.

American League (AL) - the worst league (jk i’m kidding). unlike the National League, the AL has designated hitters. teams in the AL can face teams in the NL, but they’re more likely to have games with other AL teams

batting average - the number of hits a player gets divided by their number of at-bats. so a player who gets 2 hits in 5 at-bats would have a .400 average. if a player has the same number of hits as they do at-bats (this can happen in the beginning of the season) then their average is 1.000. the higher the average the better. an average batting average is .240-.270. a player is doing well if they’re batting .270-.299. anything over .300 is really good

side note: most pitchers don’t have high batting averages, but some do (see: Shohei Ohtani (Angels), who’s actually the designated hitter even when he’s not pitching). and surprise, Babe Ruth, the home run king, was both an outfielder and a pitcher. most pitchers have batting averages between .000 and .200

bench players (the bench) - players who don’t start the game, they’re literally on the bench until they get called in

bunt - a batter bunts by squatting into a pitch and holding their bat out horizontally. one hand grips the barrel of the bat while the other holds the regular handle. hitting the ball like this helps to control the pitch. done correctly, the ball will drop to the grass and roll towards third base

usually done to advance a runner already on base. even if it’s done correctly, the batter is typically out, so it’s used strategically

bunting a ball foul on 2 strikes means that the batter is automatically out, so you have to be really confident in your bunting skills to bunt on 2 strikes

some batters (fast ones) will occasionally try to bunt for a hit, as in they bunt with no one on base and attempt to outrun the throw. it can be a successful move, but is typically only done when the batter isn’t batting particularly well, and is also generally looked down on because it’s such a risky move

championship series - there’s one championship series per league, and they’re the third part of the postseason (post-division series, pre-world series). each series lasts seven games, or until one team has won 4 games (so a team could win the series in 4, 5, 6, or 7 games). the winners of each division series play each other based on league (so AL v AL, NL v NL). the winners of the championship series go on to the world series

clean-up - the fourth batter in a lineup. aka the four-hole. aka one of the best batters in the lineup. when the clean-up comes up to bat, something’s expected to happen

designated hitter (DH) - only in the AL. a hitter that takes the pitcher’s spot on the hitting rotation. supposed to make the game more interesting (imo they don’t, but opinions are opinions). when an AL team plays an away game with an NL team, they aren’t allowed to use designated hitters. when an NL team plays an away game with an AL team, they’re allowed to use the DH but not required. frequently used to prolong a player’s career because they don’t actually need to field, just bat

disabled list (DL) - an injured player can be put on the DL to make room for a healthy player on the 25 man roster. once the player returns to the roster, though, someone always has to go back down to the minors

divisions - every league has three divisions. every division has five teams (six in my fic to allow for the extra, fictional teams). the team with the most wins in each division wins the division title each season

division series - there’s two division series per league, and they’re the second part of the postseason (post-wildcard games, pre-championship series). each series lasts five games, or until one team has won 3 games (so a team could win the series in 3, 4, or 5 games). the team with the best league record plays the wildcard winner, while the other two division winners play each other

free agent - players not affiliated with any team. their contract ran out without them being re-signed

hit by pitch (hbp) - when the batter gets beaned by a baseball thrown by the pitcher. sometimes intentional (see ‘intentional hbp’) and sometimes not

intentional hit by pitch (intentional hbp) - they pop up every now and then, although a lot of the time no team or pitcher actually admits that they did it on purpose. other times they don’t even try to hide it (see: cole hamels (phillies) intentionally hitting bryce harper (nationals) to “welcome him to the big leagues” (side note: bryce paid him back by stealing home, which is pretty much the most epic thing he could have done in this situation))

honestly it’s been a part of baseball for so long that you really could argue about it all day, and it’s mostly seen as a way to pay players back (usually for watching a homer too long). but hitting someone is never meant to injure them. any intentional hbp’s should always be aimed at the thigh because it may bruise, but it won’t actually put them on the DL

in the hole - where the batter is before they go into the on-deck circle. aka there’s the batter at bat, the batter in the on-deck circle, and then the batter in the hole

Major League Baseball (MLB) - as high as a player can get in American baseball

Minor League Baseball (MiLB) - different affiliates of the major league teams. also known to house the “farm system”, aka up-and-coming players

Single A (A), Double A (AA), Triple A (AAA) - different divisions of the minors, the more A’s there are, the higher up players are and the better chance they have of making the majors. previously injured players (just off the DL) will typically play a few games here to readjust before heading back to the majors

National League (NL) - the best league (i’m not joking this time). unlike the AL, they don’t use designated hitters. teams in the NL can face teams in the AL, but they’re more likely to have games with other NL teams

no-decision - because pitchers’ wins and losses are recorded, no-decisions come into play in certain instances. they’re only used for starting pitchers

so: if a pitcher starts the game, but exits when the game is tied, they automatically get a no-decision because they didn’t give up more runs than the opposing pitcher

or: if a pitcher starts the game, exits while their team is in the lead, and the team then loses the lead, they get a no-decision because they weren’t responsible for the lost lead

or: if a pitcher starts the game, exits while their team is behind, and the team then gains the lead, they get a no-decision because they weren’t pitching during the comeback

even if a reliever is pitching when these instances occur, the reliever will be assigned the win or loss instead of the starter

on-deck circle - where the next batter stands and practices their swing

pinch hitter - a hitter who replaces someone else in the lineup

usually used to switch out pitchers

pinch runner - someone who replaces a runner on base. rarely used, especially since the person who gets replaced can’t return to the game

relief pitcher (reliever) - pitchers who usually only pitch one or two innings a game. they come in to close the game out and hopefully get the starter the win. long relievers can go for three to five innings

rosin bag - small white bags filled with rosin powder. they’re kept on the mound throughout the whole game, usually behind the pitcher, and pitchers use them to keep their grips on the baseballs

rotation - every team has a pitching rotation. if you’re lucky, this rotation has five strong starters. if you’re not lucky… well. things can get interesting. (apparently there was a 4 man rotation on a team this season? and they used the bullpen for the 5th “starter”? i can’t remember who it is but like… ouch). it’s called a rotation because the pitchers rotate on a schedule, so every pitcher pitches every fifth game

or they should. off days can cause trouble, because you want to keep the rotation but you also don’t want every starter getting an extra day off (this sounds good in theory but it actually disrupts their training: not good!), so sometimes what teams will do is skip whoever would have pitched on the off day and just keep going. this means that every pitcher (with the one exception) keeps their training schedule, and only one of them is disrupted instead of all five

save - a reliever gets the save if they pitch the final half-inning without giving up the losing runs. a save situation only occurs if the run difference is between 0-3 runs and the pitcher’s team is in the lead

Spring Training - starts in February and goes through March. players get invitations to come to Spring Training and try to make the major league team. they play games with other teams and train in preparation for the season (which starts in late March/early April), but there’s always those minor league players who get invited. this is their chance to show the team that they can make it in the majors

starting pitcher - one of five pitchers who start games on a rotation. top three starters are usually the best of the five, but the goal is to have a solid five starters

starters - not to be confused with starting pitchers, starters are the players who literally start the game. they’re not on the bench

walk - a pitcher walks a batter when they throw 4 balls in the same at-bat. the batter immediately takes first base

wildcard - if a team doesn’t win their division, they still have a chance to make the postseason: by being one of the two teams with the best records behind the division winners (this means that, technically, both wildcard teams could have better records than one or two of the division winners, because the division takes precedence over the record. it all depends on the division). if a team gets a wildcard spot, they then play a one game series against the other wildcard team before the division series begin. the winner of the wildcard game continues on to the division series, the loser is immediately eliminated from the post season

world series - there’s only one world series, and it’s the fourth and final part of the postseason (post-championship series). each series lasts seven games, or until one team has won 4 games (so a team could win the series in 4, 5, 6, or 7 games). the championship series winners play each other, and the winner of the world series is the final, ultimate winner. there’s nothing better than winning the world series

What was your coolest Halloween costume: Uh... hm. Tough. I’m gonna go with my Phantom of the Opera Red Death costume sophomore year of college, because I made the mask myself. It was based on the movie version, obvs, and of course it was far from perfect, but it still turned out awesome and since it was also for a class, I got the highest grade on that mask-making project. So booyah. But in high school, I was Darth Vader, Eric Draven aka The Crow, Batman, and then I was gonna do The Joker (Dark Knight version) but I could only get the makeup and scars and not the suit, so my friend lent me a purple fairy costume and I was a Joker Fairy. I won a costume contest.

What’s your favorite 90s show: Uhhhhhh... I suddenly forgot literally all 90s shows. I didn’t really watch TV in the 90s, so... hang on lemme look some up. Okay uh... Dexter’s Lab, Powerpuff Girls, I really liked those. Um, Freaks & Geeks was pretty good? Oh, Friends is pretty classic.

Have you ever been to Las Vegas?: Once, my freshman year of college. My bff from high school’s mom paid for us to go see Avenged Sevenfold at the Hard Rock Café, only it was RIGHT before my very first finals. So obviously I said FUCK IT cause finals week was Thur-Wed, and I didn’t have any finals until Monday at 8:00 AM. So we flew out Friday morning, went to the concert Saturday night, and flew back Sunday. And then I went to my final hating the world but happy for the experience. Since I was still 17 at the time, we didn’t do any gambling or drinking but neither of us wanted to anyway so it was all good.

Favorite pair of shoes: Whichever one I’m wearing the most at any given time lmao

It’s either a) the time I stuck a prop necklace for a play I was doing in a floor socket, nearly electrocuted myself, destroyed the necklace the day before opening, and looked like a moron in front of my cast and crew, all because my brain literally went, “hey, this part of the necklace is flat! I bet it would fit in that slot on the socket!”; b) the time I tried networking at the place I was temping because I wanted them to offer me a permanent job, and ended up so drunk that I passed out on the MAX home, stumbled off a stop, fell over and puked on my boots, and had to be taken to the emergency room; or c) the time I was at a band trip up the river in high school and wanted to swim across the river with my friends, forgetting that I was a scrawny weakling until I was at the mercy of the current, nearly got run over by a jet boat, and was so tired by the time I crawled to the rocks on the other side that they were already ready to go back across, I had to rest, and then almost drowned trying to swim/float my way back over because I was so tired. Straw poll, what do you think was the stupidest?

What inspired you to take on your current muse (that you are posting this on): To try something new, I usually go for soft boys, generally, even if you can say Ed and Zidane are anything but soft but they aren’t complete without manners, not to say Yuri doesn’t but - I feel like he curses a lot XD and gets angry easily. I thought Trunks had anger issues being a saiyan hybrid but ha!

That and I never done muses like him... quite before.

What are your favorite aspects of your current muse: Despite his anger, Yuri is very sensitive, if you talk shit over people he genuinely likes you are on his shit list, I feel like a lot of people tend to over look it. Yuri talks bad yeah about EVERYONE, he won’t go soft just because he LIKES you, but that’s why I like him. He acts tough, even if he isn’t really ALL that soft, he has his moments. I think that’s my favorite part?

The second is never giving up, even though people talk shit likely about him, he never once glances their way. I wish I could say the same... I wish I could feel confident about my writing and my drawing skills as much as he has on the ice, I wish I felt comfortable in my own skin like he does! Sometimes logging into Yuri gives me that fake sense of confidence, because like I said before Yuri doesn’t give me a chance to moan or whine about myself. Depression does not exist when he is around, so that’s probably around reason I stuck around this long.

He makes me feel good about myself.

What’s your biggest inspiration when it comes to writing: Music? I don’t know, am I suppose to pick some writer? Or something? I mean everyone who I interact with me gives me muse, but if I am going to start a blog usually see me listening to a lot of music and re-watching the series also helps a lot, especially in a time of downtime so. Probably a choice between the two?

Favourite types of threads: Comedy, I know it seems like such a lame thing. Most people pick angst, or shipping or anything else between but I am a woman who loves to laugh. I get more inspiration being HAPPY, laughing than I do writing anything else. My real life is depressing enough, it doesn’t HELP suffering from depression. So only way I combat it is by comedy. 

Funny I share the same as Robin William did. You are depressed? Smile and Laugh, don’t let it show or let it slow you down.

The biggest struggle in regards to your current muse: He is often shown as too angry? I don’t know, I feel like I make him far too angry, and while I do have my moments in which he shows his tender side, I feel like I don’t do them enough. Sorry, he is very hostile, he is likely not everyone number one pick when you think of Yuri as a RPer but to me, there is an appeal in being angry in a way, plus I try to mix my own personal experience with him.

I try to remember what it was like to be that age, what it was liked to be looked down by someone older than you, that’s why I get defensive at times and it shows when I write Yuri. I don’t like... being step on but at the same time I am weak, I am a people pleaser and that’s my number one mistake. But over all, I feel like I am slowly getting a grasp on him. 

I will never be anyone favorite but ha!

Dakotera.tumblr is shutting down

It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing the end of the dakotera.tumblr news blog. TLDR: TERA in 2017 isn't the same game I loved years ago and I don't find excitement in continuing the blog anymore.

2 years ago to this very day (June 4th) the first blog post was created and now in 2017 we are at 509 posts with a remarkable 541 followers! I never would have imagined that so many people would discover this small blog about reposting various TERA patch notes, class changes and events, and show their interest by liking/reblogging the articles. It makes me happy to discover so many people who care about this type of news and care about what is happening to TERA. I realize that I'm not even a blip on the radar and that I could have just randomly deleted the blog without saying anything but it makes me feel better to get this off my chest and it definitely feels right to let all of you know why I've come to this decision. Maybe some of you are curious about personal posts like this too.

Why stop now?

Back in 2015 I had a moment where I was slowly getting tired of the endless gear grind after doing the same thing for a few patches, so one day I was reading about TERA information online and found the translated Korean previews and patch notes for content that would be coming about 6 months into the future for western territories. Needless to say, reading this stuff about a new level cap, new dungeons, new classes and balance tweaks was super exciting! I played NA/EU a little less because I was more interested in seeing the future content in Korea (sounds weird I know).

Ultimately, this interest is what drove me to create this blog as a place to bring information from most regions of TERA (KR/NA/EU and JP/RU to a lesser extent) to one place. Seeing the new updates from Bluehole and imagining the potential direction TERA will take in the future kept me motivated to continue.

However in recent years, I feel like the game has strayed away from the path of glory and I find it difficult to be excited when reading KTERA updates anymore. Lately I've ended up questioning Bluehole's (and EME's) decision-making as more updates are posted online. Both of them seem out of touch with the community for years. It's like every patch removes some of the fun I previously had with the game until you're left with something that is a shadow of its former self. Obviously, MMOs need updates to keep their playerbase interested and the TERA in 2017 is different to the game I loved back in 2012/13.

I guess I feel unsatisfied with how Bluehole and En Masse have supported the game over the years. Gender-locked OP classes and more recycled bosses/dungeons made me fatigued. Also I never really liked the current EME staff compared to Tonka, Minea, Harmonia and Treeshark, both personality-wise and in a professional sense of providing a good standard of service. I stopped watching EME's twitch streams soon after Tonka quit because it's just not interesting to me anymore. Oh and that's not even mentioning the 1400 downvote forum topic on the FIHM patch years ago, recent bans from using 3rd party programs like dps meters, the dragon mount fiasco, server ping spikes/crashes, civil unrest not working correctly upon release and everything in-between. The 5th anniversary event didn't motivate me to grind tokens either. Lack of communication and transparency with the playerbase seems like a longstanding issue. Maybe it's just me playing the game for too long or maybe the game has actually been a sinking ship for a while now but I think it's fair to say the game has seen better days.

I didn't intend for this to be a long rant post and I apologize if it seems so, I just wanted to put my thoughts down. This isn't an impulse decision to stop the blog, I was first having thoughts of doing this since mid-2016 but continued on for another year to see if things would look brighter.

What will happen to the blog?

I won't delete the blog so it will stay online for a while. Who knows, it might be useful to someone looking through old stuff. It will probably become a private blog later on.

What will you do without TERA?

TERA has been my main game for almost 5 years now and by that I mean it's the game I would choose to play first and spend most of my free time in. As a result, I've missed out on a few titles I would like to play and if you're wondering, they're not other MMOs (I would like to take a break from endless grinding and RNG for a while and maybe play something more optimized!). With that being said, this post is only saying that I won't be continuing the blog anymore but I'll still be keeping an eye on how future patches turn out, how TERA on consoles will work and what the next 'big thing' will be (another new class or lvl 70 cap maybe?). Of course, I (and I guess most of you) would love to see the game improve from where it's at now.

Closing thoughts

My apologies to everyone that I couldn't continue for longer, I'm at a point where I feel like I've accomplished all my personal goals (both in-game and on this blog) and I'm satisfied leaving it there. Once again, thank you to everyone who read and supported this blog.
