My mil's comfort movies are the Divergent trilogy (don't ask me why I do not understand it either) and every couple months she goes on a binge for a few days so I caught a chunk of the first one tonight

Gotta say I sat through maybe an hour of it doing menial tasks and I know nothing about the ensemble of characters and next to nothing about the world aside from like, bare bones details. No one has any discerning traits or depth aside from slight physical differences. I couldn't answer a single question if you asked me. It would be fascinating if it wasn't so very dull imo.

I was pressed when I read that Leo was going to have a crush on April, but I actually didn't mind it in this case. (Even though I 100% prefer for them to just be best friend's/family and would never want to see April with any of them). Like Leo being such a nerd made it work plus April didn't show any interest in him, so it didn't bug me like I thought it would. Now if they try to turn that into something in the future then we're gonna have a problem, but it being a one-sided thing that Leo will hopefully grow out of (quickly!) is fine.

Speaking of April, I LOVE this version of April, and I love how they switched up the reporter thing a bit with her being super anxious to be on air bc it made way for some character progression. I do tend to prefer her being quite a bit older than the turtles, but I feel like her being a teen like them works in this universe.

Also, I love it when Leo is characterized as a nerd who says cringey/nerdy things sometimes and they delivered on that beautifully here with his speeches. It's veryyy 2k12 Leo vibes. Fucking loved it. Especially loved it when Leo actually had an amazing rousing speech during the Superfly fight scene and then after Raph complimented him on it, Leo started geeking out about how cool he sounded LOL. Obsessed.

"GO NINJA, GO NINJA, GO!" I started screaming when this started playing!! Secret of the Ooze reference let's gooo!

The milking... THE MILKING... the nipples and the milking!! Mikey and Raph got milked!! That running joke killed me. Also, since Mikey got milked first, I couldn't help but compare that to 2k3 when Bishop was going to use a saw to cut into Mikey's carapace while all the other bros had to watch. Althouuugh... ngl, I kinda wish Raph had gone a little more berserk over Mikey getting milked since he's so protective, but I understand they were trying to keep the mood light even though... it was... a torture scene... so uhhh... anyway.

All in all, I thought it was super fun and I couldn't stop laughing the entire time. There was still kiiinda more of a Leo focus this time around, but it wasn't nearly as much as the Rise movie, so I'm glad it felt more balanced between each brother (and thank god we didn't have to sit through another Leo vs. Raph type of beef thing).

I think in terms of characterization, Leo was definitely characterized the best and felt IC. I feel like there could've been a bit more development for Donnie, Raph, and Mikey. Donnie had his anime/kpop thing, Raph had his love for violence, and then Mikey... there wasn't anything super defining about him other than maybe the fact that he signed up for the improv team try outs. But honestly, I'm not that mad at it because I'm sure they'll get more fleshed out in the TV show that's coming in the future. Now that they're attending school, I do kinda hope that Donnie takes some kinda robotics/woodworking/science classes because I'd love to see him develop the skills he's always depicted with.

As for my fav, I mean, it should be noted that Mikey is always my guy and that I'm usually going to focus on him the most in every scene, but other than him, I'd say Leo. I also really enjoyed April, Splinter, and Superfly though.

turns out i'm not getting any notifications from serializd, which kinda defeats the purpose of having the app at all (i used to use tv time but then they completely ruined their desktop ui), so i'm apparently 3 eps behind and had no idea

ever since the dcu superman film set photos came out i've been on an early!clois fic-reading binge (mostly rereads, it's the first time i do this) and it highlights so much everything this adaptation missed out on having........ the rivalry, the identity porn, the banter........ i know i talk about this every time i watch this series, but they've literally taken out every shingle one of my favourite things about early!clois (which is my fav clois era!!), and i just can't understand why someone would do this on purpose!!! i mean, we could be having this

well. it's definitely not what i was expecting. but i guess it fits with how they were developing krypton, and it's definitely interesting! i was worried about kara having been shown as a baby while leaving krypton, that maybe they would've made her grow up in the ship with only false memories, but she's... immersed in the culture, i guess... somehow... it's definitely not what i would've guessed, and whether i like it or not is gonna depend on how they deal with it (if this was mainverse kara i definitely would've hated it, but an au is au, so let's wait and see)

tbh i was worried she'd get the the cartoon!starfire* treatment and be depicted in an overtly childish manner (which is. not exactly unheard of in this series), so her instead being an imperialistic war criminal is better than what i was expecting lmao

(*= whom i love! but whom i met 1. before knowing anything about the original kory, and 2. as a child. and who's also done irreparable damage to mainverse kory, so can't blame a girl for being afraid)

now i'm curious about her "father"... she said her and clark are the only kryptonians left, but it could be something similar to the jor-el hologram thing, i guess. i know zor-el has been depicted in a more villainous light at some points so who knows, might even be his consciousness inside a robot or whatever

anyway, it's an interesting change. has potential. at this point i don't really trust this series to explore it as deeply and seriously as i would like, or to not fall back into the tropes i was afraid of as soon as her redemption arc is over and she becomes jimmy's born child-friendly yesterday girlfriend, so i'll not keep my hopes too high, but this could be fun!

September 1st: Favourite s1 episode?

Honesty a super hard pick, and i think there are better episodes in the season but the one i go back too most often is ep 10 “The Sear of Selene” 

It just has some of the best character moments (for me) and is truly funny and interesting. And has some real insight into Donald and Dewey’s feelings about Della and her being gone. we saw glimpse of this in ‘dime chase’ and ‘woo-woo/Atlantis’ but here we actually see the pain Della left in her wake. And what it means going forward. 

Plus stokeulse is a big sweet boi and i love watching him and Donald ‘re-connecting’ speaking of witch it is also the frist time Scrooge and Donald have a form of re-connection to

its a strong ep and lead the way for bigger ‘emotional hits’ down the line (the last crash of the sun chaser)

September 2nd: Favourite triplet?

I don’t really have one as they are all fleshed out and well rounded, that being said I am looking forward to more of Huey this season. But i don’t have a fav.

September 3rd: Favourite member of team magic

Webby, but i don’t know if that counts as she is main cast so i see her more often then any other Team Magic characters. The girl is fun and filled with so much love and she is to be feared. and I love her faults to she is awkward and hyper-fixated on Mcduck history to the point that its scary. and is a fun loving social shut in.

She is just so multifaceted and complex that i love her with all my heart.  

September 4th: favourite three caballeros 

I am bias on this one as i love José Oliveira (the og José) and anything involving that funky little parrot makes me happy. But in DT17 I do love that there is elements of that Og Jose in his characterisation

like in s2 ep 4 

when he calls over and hugs Donald (so sweet), and that he knows how to claim Donald down so fast (by making him dance and then getting him to sing) and to my knowledge he is the only one to do this in the whole show not just once but twice, so it shows that he has a deep understanding of Donald that most just don’t, and i have always loved that about their friendship.

plus from what i can tell from that ep as well it was Jose’s idea to meet up and he planned the trip (as he payed for it) so the fact he made arraignments for Panchito, Donald and THE BOY’S (+ scrooge) shows how much Jose really loves his friends, and plays an umbrella as an trumpet.       

September 5th: favourite ep of season 2

This was a hard one as most of the eps knock it out of the park, but i’m going to have to go with, ep 16 “the Duck Knight Returns” its just such a good ep and has so many wonderful layers to it, and i was actually caught of guard with the final Jim Starling twist. like i can’t even remember the lat time a twist hit me that hard (i got side swiped) I actually had to sit in silence for a solid minute or two and then watch the whole ep again.

they wasted no detail big or small in this ep (like that Jim was already wearing an unbuttoned DW suit and had the hat in the box next to him, or the sound drake made being thrown into the bathroom just like og DW, and the meta jokes and the animation, the whole ep just went so hard) 

and it was a really fun way to ‘pass the torch’ from one actor to another, especially playing with the idea of someone just not being done with the character yet and not wanting to let go, (as a lot of audiences have that issue, with re-boots and relaunches, and especially when a version of a character has an unfinished story left, think Andrew Garfield’s spider-man for e.g.)

i could honesty talk forever about this ep but i’ll spare you all.     

September 6th: favourite hug? 

Honesty its a three way tie...

1) Scrooge and Della when she first comes home. Just they way he scoops her up like a kid and holds her tight, makes my heart full. 

2) this one with Louie, just the mother son embrace was really earned here. 

3) and this one with Jose and Donald, its rare we see Donald so happy to see anyone (who is not his family) and just how naturally he ran into his arms was so nice. And Jose dropping his umbrella right away show how he knew what was coming. Plus i am a big fan of men showing their love and friendship in sweet fun ways like this, so a win for non-toxic masculinity here.   

September 7th Gizmoduck or Darkwing duck?

this is a hard one as i do like both of these hero boy’s and i have talked about how they have conflicting views of their own success through the other (basically, Drake has is personal life together, but Fenton has his hero life together, and i think it would be a point of envy for both characters) And I love Fenton and Drake for different reasons, but at their core they are somewhat the same just two people who want to help others for no other reason then it is the right thing to do.

And i Love what the show has done for both characters but...I will have to give it Drake by a fraction of a hair (feather?).

As unlike Fenton I only needed one ep to be 100% on board with Drake and i know everything i need to know about him from that. As DW had a whole ass show for a reason and that one ep showed it. As Fenton is a wonderful character and he is a very well done character, but one of his defining traits is that he is all over the place (like in his life, work, the way he specks ect) but that can get messy from time to time as it can be hard to be ‘on board’ with someone with no clear ‘goal’ persay (they did cover most of this in “who is Gizmoduck” but some of it still lingers now that can be a tiny bit jarring at times) But like that is SUPER Neat-picky, tho. 

And Drake has that chaotic feral energy that Fenton just don’t have (Fenton has more Bi panic energy), but Drake also has tired dad energy (like how he growls at GD in moonvation and when he calls to LP before the set explodes) and i love that about him. 

Get this man his Gosalyn already so he can be the dorky dad he is destined to be.     

September 8th: Favourite duck cousin?

I’m going to have to go with Gladstone, because he is a HUGE prick, but in a way he is not fully aware of. He is generous (he literally offers the boy’s a bucket of diamonds, just because they came by)    

And I love that half hazard nature about him, he is true neutral, things just happen to him and for him and he just takes it, and that is actually really interesting, (don’t get me wrong i love Fethry, Della and Donald) but Gladstone is such a wild card in the duck/mcduck family when compared to everyone else that its a nice change of pace from the rest in a way (all of them good hearted and well meaning people) I generally have no idea what he might do when presented with an actual problem/ choice, so to see that will be fun and this crews take on Gladstone in that regard.

As i think out of all the cousins he has the most growing/changing to do.      

September 9th: favourite ship?

Ok here is the thing.

in general fandom 

I don’t really have any strong feelings about most ships one way or the other. I think a lot are nice and I enjoy seeing others enjoy themselves and all the wonderful art and time they put into it. That being said out of all my years of being in fandoms I have had a grand total of 5-10 ships i am super passionate about and that is over the span of 10+ years. 

and one of the things i love the most about ducktales is how much it focuses on family love and pure platonic friendships (for both kid and adult characters). And that makes my ace heart happy.  So basically I’m saying is I have no strong feelings about most ships in general beyond “aww” or “man i love how much the fandom loves them” and “that is some great art/ fic / creative output I’m happy for them.” 

But with that out of the way, the question at hand.

I’m going to have to go with Donald and Daisy, as from a writing sand point it was so well done and sweet and cute. And it gave a new perspective on a relationship that has been around for 70+ years, so that was impressive all on it’s own, and it is going to be a loving, interesting relationship going forward.

September 10th: Favourite season 3 episode  

I am going to assume that this is out of the 7 eps so far (duh), which again is hard cause this show is just so damn good. But I would have to say it is ep 6 “Astro B.O.Y.D”

now cue story of me as a kid in 3...2...1...

when i was a kid, I was obsessed with Astro boy, i was maybe 6 years old and i loved it. I was a relatively poor kid so in the early/mid 2000′s i would get a lot of my reading/watching materials from my local library. This included 4 VSH tapes of Astro boy episodes for the 80′s series and i would watch the 2003 anime dub on Saturday mornings TV (one ep a week if that), The library also had the first 2 vols of the og manga that i read so many times that i could probably re-sight it from memory. anyway, the reason i love astro boy so much was because it gave me a feeling i had not felt in my young life before that point, even if i did not full understand it at the time.

Its a feeling i still can’t fully put into words, but i will do my best. Astro boy goes right for the heart in every way possible, but it always twist the knife when it goes for, grief, regret and longing agony. specifically when in looks at lost love, usually platonic love (Tobio and Tenma e.g), the feeling these story’s gave me was the complexity of pain that losing love can bring, but it is most effective because it is through the lens of a child (astro/ tobi) and an innocent, loving child at that. The child is (somewhat) untouched by the tragedy (via memory loss) but is still shaped by the love that was put into them, despite the grief's overall out come (the abandonment of said child). So the feeling is a bitter-sweetness that comes from a place of innocents but also personal understanding of the self Astro was made by Tenma, but he was not what tenma made him to be (his lost son) but astro became his own person who loves and is loved by others, and is a whole person on his own outside of what he was made for (and is in a way still A son to tenma just NOT Tobi). and there is that sense of a child just wanting to be heard and understood for who they ARE and not what others what them to be, regardless of their “potential” (in other words personal choice’s and passions that the child actually wants for themselves)

I just love Astro Boy ok...and i never get a chance to talk about it, so i thought i would here, as this list was foolish enough to give me an opening.

Moving on to the DT17 ep.

The Astro Boyd ep. hit all of these notes, the longing agony of lost love (Gyro and Boyd) the regret that came from Gyro for boyd’s creation.

Boyd’s innocents and loving nature coupled with his wants and identity not being fully understood (gyro thinking he is evil, Fenton wanting him to be a hero, Akita having him be a tool and Tesuka thinking he is just a mindless robot) and just wanting to be seen for what he truly is “a defiantly real boy” and he gets that conformation from Gyro at the end!

and Gyro has is own actualisation, about his own grief, after thinking his love was “misplace” for years on end in a way that made him shut down his heart almost completely. Only to find that he was right to let himself love and that love is actually what helped Boyd help himself. Gyro in essence realising that both him and Boyd are not mistakes or failures but two people who lost the one they loved (each other) and have finally found a way back to each other so they can both begin to fully heal.    

So it was a good episode *wipes tear away from eye*

September 11th : favourite villain?

I don’t really have a favourite villain as the show don’t tend to focus to heavy on them and when they do it is somewhat short lived, (like Magica in season 1 and Lunarus in season 2) and since this season has a group of villains (FOWL) and not just one main one like the last 2 seasons, I have a feeling that one of the up coming FOWL members may take the top spot later down the line.  

but if we are going off the one i find most entertaining...

I’m going to have to give it to

Magica she is played as scary, funny and damn relatable on occasion (the funzo scene), and i am never disappointed to see her. I think she is very different from comic magica in a lot of ways, but i enjoy this version for different reasons. And i think this magica has room to grow/ change (for good or for worst). So safe to say i am looking forward to the first ep in the line up.  

September 12th : favourite character?

why must you make me choose...

seriously all of the characters major or minor is shown in a way that makes them feel very real and well rounded even if they have very little screen time. for god sake the ottoman empire guys get character development (one left the show to pursue acting and they fight with scrooge in the moonvation). So this is not an easy pick to say the least.    

but I will be judging it by the one i ‘get the most out of’ so to speck....

and I have to say its a tie...

Donald Duck

I love him ok. He is very small and very angry and he will fight god(s) for his family safety. Anyway, I have always love Donald Duck shorts and everything else he shows up in he is always my fav.

I have always been able to relate to Donald as i too have a bit of a disability that makes it hard for people to understand be (in writing) and i have a ‘voice issue’ that makes me different from everyone around me. So i really understand the feeling Donald have and the anger that comes from being misunderstood in the most basic ways. Its not fun

So Donald has always been important to me in a sense,  

The thing about Ducktales 2017 that i love is that it fleshes out Donald’s already established characteristics, by giving them context (e.g. using his outbursts to protect the boys). this gives him something that me has been missing (in animation) for awhile now, and that is how functions outside of himself.

what i mean by that is that Donald is kind of unique when it comes to the Disney sensational 6, unlike the rest is/ can be

-selfish

-cowardly

-rude/ mean spirited

-a loser

these things are what make him different to the rest but in animation for a while he has been shown by himself (without his family or even Daisy) so all of the above characteristics are not “diluted” or held to any standard outside of Donald’s personal misery.

So he can be super selfish and an all around ass cause, yeah, if your life was one pain after the other no matter what you did and you were all on your own all the time, then yeah, your going to be a miserable little shit.  

But by reintroducing the boy’s and giving him a more defined role (father/ solo care giver) at least at the start of the show, it gives Donald a reason to “fight off” his less than noble parts of his personality. It also makes his action have more weight as everything he does or fails to do effects the boy’s. So that makes him more appealing overall as what he does (or doesn’t) do now matters, and all the tragedy in Donald’s life are also given weight (Della being gone for 10 yrs, and what that did to his relationship with Scrooge) so his pain is now REAL and even tho he is funny and reckless, he is now a person with flaws and failings but also victory's (getting Della back and his family being close again) and dreams (the three caballeros and his relationship with Daisy)

Drake Mallard

I have already talked a bit about his intro ep,

but as of right now i am more in love with the potential i see in the character. As we have not really seen to much of him like maybe 4 ep’s total. But Drake is the character i am most hyped to see more of (and the people who are around him, Gos and LP etc.)  

as i find him really interesting and he is (ironically) one of the more “normal” people in the show as a whole, He is not rich (high society rich anyway) he is not an explorer, not a scientist, he don’t have a ‘crazy’ backstory (like Gyro in Tokyok) and he doesn't have a direct connection to Scrooge himself (he never worked for him directly, and is not a family member)

so he is just a random guy, who thought “I’m going to do this crazy shit just because a handsome pilot man said i could if i wanted to”

and honestly that’s cool.    

he is fun and goofy in an engendering way, and his ego is the right amount of controlled (ish) but still over the top. the character is full of story’s that can be taken from the og show and mixed in with the new show (like his intro ep),

Drake is a just fun to think about, and how his world relates to the world of ducktales in general, as they were separate for such a long time, so seeing it come together in a new way is super existing.

I was already blown away by his last solo ep I can’t wait to see more of him (and his how he will be with his Gos, and how that adventure will unfold)  

September 13th Favorited actor/ actress 

now this is just an unfair question, this is a star strutted cast and everyone is amazing. There is a pop culture icon and a Disney legend in the cast (and the fact your not 100% sure which one’s i’m talking about proves my point)

So i am going to cheat a little here, I’m not going off the actors and actress themselves per say but rather I’m going to talk about my favourite performance in the show.

I judge this on two things

1) how much the act ‘disappears’ into the character (as in i don’t see the human person when there talking, even if its still just their normal voice)

2) I can’t see (/hear) anyone else being able to do the role

So on those two things in mind i will have to go with.

Paget Brewster

she just plays Della with this fun life to her, she can switch on a dime from crazy adventurer to comic foil to herself and then have moments of deep self refection. And she had to carry the introduction to the character all on her own, as Della was isolated, so if she didn’t sell Della to us (the audience) then the whole mystery/ build up to Della would have fallen apart. So that was not easy but she pulled it off (with great writing as well).

and she was/is amazing as Della, she is just awesome and I love listening to her and how she plays Della.

September 14th Favourite song

Oh for me it hands down has to be “not good enough” I love a good Bond ballad and Ben kills it. Plus it plays a big part in the episodes theme’s for LP,

its perfect, it fits the story, character and the parody.   

September 15th: Favourite scene from favourite episode.

well out of my top 3 episode (that i have already listed) I’m going to not talk about ‘the dark duck returns’ as there is a scene in there that i will talk about later. my favourite scene out of the other 2 episodes i have picked, i would have to go with...

The ‘Defiantly real boy’ scene from Astro BOYD

(i have already talked about my love for Astro boy and this ep in relation to that)  what i love the most about this scene is that not only did Gyro and Boyd ‘find’ each other again, but they found themselves again.

Boyd turned back into the real boy Gyro ‘made’ him to be (the boy Gyro always believed he was/could be) and that not only was that ok, but the best way for Boyd be himself. Thus his reclaiming of the word Boyd, he is still ‘the same’ but now has a clear sense of what it actually means to himself, mixing both 2BO and Boyd into one. With the love given to 2BO by Gyro and the life experience he has had as Boyd, so Boyd didn’t have to change everything about himself to be complete he just needed to understand that he was loved for being himself and to get confirmation that he is what he believes himself to be a ”Defiantly real boy” (T-T)

as for Gyro, he realised that his love, care and idealism (as he put it) was not misplaced (on Boyd), as when the little boy he loved so fully seemingly turn on him, that broke his heart and his spirit in a way that just would not fully mend. (thus his cold and rude behaviour through out the show so far...) But when Gyro fully embraces his idealism and loving side again (by embracing Boyd) he realises that he can bring his true feeling to the surface again as it was never a mistake for him to do so. thus why he embraces Fenton as an equal, by calling him Doctor and showing the respect he actually always felt for Fenton.

They found themselves through each other, and it melts my heart (T-T)

September 18th: Favourite scene of your favourite ship

I have to say its this little moment here...

Donald spent the whole episode wanting to impress this woman (Glamor), but after spending time with Daisy decided that Daisy’s dignity was more important then his Big Break. And Daisy returns in kind like ‘yeah i shouldn’t be treated this way’ and its just really sweet. It also got Daisy noticed and most likely jumb started her career and Daisy (again) returned in kind (most likely) by having the three Caballeros perform on stage right after.

so its a small but very insight look into the new dynamic Donald and Daisy are going to/ do have in this show.

September 19th: Favourite scene of  your favourite character.

oh my, where oh where to take this?

every character in this show is so good so this is just hard man....

but I will go with “The Duck Knight returns” one of my favs, and honesty i could talk about this episode all on its own (and I just might after “Lets Get Dangerous” airs)  but for me one of the scenes that really stuck out to me (that others have not really touched on) Is when they have the “meeting” with Alister, Jim, Scrooge and Dewey and then Drake comes in (and then immediately gets his shit wrecked by Jim).

As a film student, I feel this scene on a personal level.

the old(er) man who knows nothing but wants to take control.

the Pretentious “artist” that thinks “making it dark” makes it meaningful.

the person who pretends they know what there talking about but is to stuck in their ways to really change their mind.

and a child or child like understanding (its more common then you think)

(tho i would place LP in the audience position, which is the point of this scene) This scene hit me where I live, and is a really good commentary on Corporate meddling. As there are three ‘battles’ happening in this scene

1) Scrooge Vs Alistair

this acts as a money vs art argument, that is seen all to often in movies and shows, as I can guess we can all name at least one movie or show that has the “the record studio is changing your sound its not authentic...”

but Dt 2017 shows the other side to this and asks

authentic to what? like its one things when its your own creation but what if its was someone else's (like a reboot)  

is it better to be authentic to what was before (the og material), or is it best to take a new direction because its more ‘comfortable’ for you to do (fits your style / sensibility's)

thus leading to

2) LP Vs Dewey  

or a young audience vs the older audience, now Dewey and LP don’t really clash in this ep per say but, they act as a more “aggressive” views on audience backlash now they are Not Malicious but they do act as conflicting presences. Dewey (understandably) doesn’t get why it has to be dark and gritty, or what was happening at all as Alistair is going for a high concept film, but guess what, kids aren’t always great at picking high concepts up (at least not right away) and they can be easily bored by it, if its not engaging in a way that can appeal to them.  

and LP as an older audience member does know what the show/ movie is “meant to be” so seeing these high concepts added in a way that is not in the sprit of og material can be unnerving. And high concepts can miss the point or main message/style of the og material to the point that unrecognisable (*cough*Live action, Titians *cough*).

both of these points are legitimate concerns for audiences to have, as if something is so different its not unrecognisable then why not just make something original? and not draw a comparison.

and if your main audience is meant to be younger, they how are you going to engage them in way that matters to them or in a way they can understand (youth culture or ‘young truths’ i.e. things kids deal with/experience when growing up)          

speaking of which

3) Jim Vs Drake

this one is kind of the mix of the pervious two, or nostalgia vs update? (i can’t think of a better word),  

Jim is so determined to be in the spot light that he is willing to ‘throw away’ is morals (as seen at the end), his ‘artist integrity’ no longer matters as long as DW gets to come back, he just wants some sense of being back that it doesn’t actually matter how (*cough* Teen Titians Go*cough*), so he losses a big part of what made it DW to begin with and not because he don’t care about DW but because he places his value of it in one spot (himself as darkwing)  

as Drake on the other hand. understands that changes need to be made but he knows the movie is off base (he says so himself later), but he puts the value of DW in more then himself, as he has felt it be bigger then what was just on screen (Jim) and has carried that with him here. And since he is set up as an ‘enemy’ here (Jim jumps him) new is seen as an enemy as well, but he literal gets attached for just existing, so yeah not a great move by Jimbo there, and due to nostalgia (both in and out of the show due Jim starling/cummings) most may not of have pick up on it right away.

so yeah, this is an underrated scene and i wanted to talk about it a little as it sets up the rest of the episode.  

September 20th: Favourite friend group 

hmmm....

I have a feeling that this is going to change after the new wave of episodes (i like how team hero is shaping up) but for now i will have to say team science. They just have a nice balance of personalities and ability's, plus they the most team (ish) as they literally have to work together (most of them)

huey, gyro, fenton, manny and lil bulb

and all have their own style and smarts

Manny and Lil blub don’t even talk but they have big personalities and now with the addition of Boyd this little group feels well rounded.

Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas My rating: 5 of 5 stars CHAOL IS BACK. And by that I mean pre-QOS, personality transplant Chaol, which goes to show everything is indeed calculated in those books and happen for a reason. Let's not beat around the bush, I expected this book to be tedious given the cliffhanger at the end of Empire of Storms and the way we parted with Chaol in Queen of Shadows but I honestly think this book might be one of my favorites in the series? In fact I loved it so much that I'm tempted to deck a star from Empire of Storms just because I feel it was so much better? I don't know... (I 100% insist that The Assassin's Blade has to be read first before even Throne of Glass) I love character driven books and this one is CLEARLY character driven. There isn't a lot happening to advance the general plot although there are revelations that have left me completely gaaaaaping at the book and repeatedly saying "what? what? WHAT?" in a very unflattering doctor who fashion. There is some suspense though and I just simply loved the general mood of Antica, that place was so rich in lore it could have spun a separate series by itself. I loved everything about it: the history, the different army factions, how well the empire works despite the royal family thing, the different siblings, the Torre... There are a lot of new characters in this book but they are all so fleshed out it's like we've known them all along. I wasn't sure about Sartaq for a good long while but let it just be said he won my heart. As for our MCs, their arcs were so SO good. Chaol first... Now I understand why he was the way he was in Queen of Shadows... We can guess in QOS that it's due to the trauma of what happened to Sosha and Dorian but here it's just laid bare and it's great. I loved his arc because it was entirely believable. There were set-backs, it wasn't all rainbows and roses... It wasn't easy... And it rang very true. (view spoiler)[ The end when he started crying because he realized who had given Yrene the note... When he let go of that last part of darkness in him... It was beautiful... (hide spoiler)] As for Nesryn, her story was sooo moving? I mean, I found myself tearing up a few times at some of her passages. We didn't get to see too much of her in QOS but omg what a woman. Her story is one of belonging and the love she has for her family... It was great. Also, I love the ruks. (view spoiler)[ I only wish they hadn't bothered to stir her back with Chaol end of QOS only to break them up in the beginning of Tower of Dawn. I don't mean to complain that I wanted them together because I didn't, it was clear they didn't belong and I understand it was made obvious for a reason but I feel like for a while there she was only here for "relationship" so I'm glad she got her own time to shine. I also love her story with Sartaq. It's a bit Cinderella but in a good way. That passage when he was like "i love you before i even set eyes on you" it BROKE me. (hide spoiler)] I loved Yrene and we need more female characters like her. She's a strong female character who doesn't need to wield swords and bows to be "bad ass". It's not because she does healing magic that she's categorized as "weak". And sometimes in fantasy (or on tv for that matter) that distinction isn't always made. You can be strong without falling into archetypes. Anyway, she was my fav of the new characters in Assassin's Blade so I'm so happy to see her again and to have her become a greater part of the story. Also, once again, Fate is very present in the global story so I'm a bit less mad about Manon having to be Crochan Queen instead of just being special by herself. It's very very clear that there are entities manipulating the board and that Fate is very much A Thing. (view spoiler)[ and it's never been clearer than with Yrene's arc but I'm not mad about it given that it brings her to Chaol XD (hide spoiler)] The revelations in this books were great and I'm really really impatient to read Kingdom of Ash but I'm a bit scared at the same time. Not because I don't have faith everything will work out but because one of the reasons I think this book works so well when I wasn't such a fan of Empire Of Storms is the fact that there were only 3 povs. Empire of Storms felt very scattered because there were a lot of characters to cover and they weren't all in the same place. Here we have 3 characters who are in the same place for most of it and then only 2 places to cover so there is an impression of cohesiveness that can be lacking when you've got 10 povs and 5 places to cover... And in Kingdom of Ash I don't even want to try and COUNT the povs we're going to have... And it's a long book so... I hope it manages to hold together well... So to conclude I think from most favorite in this series to least favorite: - Heir of Fire - Queen of Shadow - Tower of Dawn - Crown of Midnight - Assassin's Blade - Throne of Glass View all my reviews

Let me get in line and say ‘IM PROUD OF YOU TOO MURPHY’ him and Octavia have had the best character development on this show. If you disagree well then argue with your mirror 😭

one of my fav moments in this episode is Murphy and emori like they are just so pure and beautiful. It’s genuinely rare to see just a healthy and loving relationship on a tv show (saying all this while shipping murven too) I’m really scared one of them will die

They best not touch Indra especially WHEN Gaia and Octavia aren’t with her

JR Bourne makes sheidheda so INTERESTING because last season I DID NOT CARE looool. I hate the character but I also don’t hate the character because of the acting

RIP to Nelson....I know he was getting a bit dodgy last few eps BUT he really died with his values and beliefs in check and that’s honestly not a bad way to go on the 100 (or in real life tbh)

Madi and her friends are genuinely a younger version of Octavia/jasper/Monty and that was a relationship we deserved to see more of so I’m happy we got these three

Jordan and hope - that moment was sweet and so emotional. I can’t believe when Jordan came on this show I was shipping him and Octavia now I ship him and her niece/daughter. They have sooo much in common so it makes sense. Imma need them to form a club with Madi lmao and call it ‘raised by The 100’

I really want Octavia to mourn Diyoza because that was family and for her to have a real conversation with hope. ‘A few days ago she was just our little girl’ 💔💔💔💔

disclaimer of course: i’m not bi! so i’m not an Authoritative Source on bi rep and what people want to see more of. i do actively seek out stuff about lgbtq+ characters, specifically girls and women, so i have some recs! however, i’ll also be adding some things that some bi folks i know have recommended because while lesbians and bi women have a lot in common, these are at the end of the day representing them, not me :)

extra-super favorites will be bolded! i’m putting this under a read more because... i read a lot of books. and recommended a lot of them.

books:

her royal highness by rachel hawkins-- this book is a pretty easy read-- don’t expect any massive revelations about life from it, and you’ll have a good time!!! essentially, a bi texan girl named millie, after having her heart broken by her friend-turned-sort-of-gf, goes to boarding school in scotland and ends up rooming with the princess, flora. if this sounds outrageous and sappy, that’s because it is! and i love it! sexuality isn’t a BIG part of this book, but it’s discussed, and it’s just a generally fun enemies-to-lovers story about a bi aspiring geologist and a no-fucks-to-give lesbian princess and them falling in love!

fried green tomatoes at the whistle stop cafe by fannie flagg-- hello this is actually my favorite book! unlike hrh it is... a LOT to read. it essentially follows 2 stories-- one about a housewife named evelyn and her friendship with an old woman named ninny threadgoode who she meets at the old folks home her mother-in-law stays at, and the other about the stories ninny tells her about her sister-in-law idgie and her partner, ruth. the book was published in 1987, and ruth and idgie’s story is set during the great depression, so they aren’t actively labeled as lesbian or bi, but it’s made obvious enough through coding and the fact that ruth has relationships with men prior to idgie while idgie spends her entire childhood pining after ruth. both storylines are fantastic-- they have a lot to say about the lives of southern women in the 30s and 80s, and about race relations at both periods. i’ll warn you that there are depictions of extreme racism and of abuse, but it handles both delicately. it’s a critical piece of southern literature, and a landmark for lgbtq+ storytelling. as a bonus, my copy has a bunch of great recipes in the back, so if you read it you might chance upon an edition with those in it. if you like poignant period pieces about wlw relationships, women losing their damn minds, and abusive men getting what they deserve, this is the book for you! you will sob. this is a fair warning.

you should see me in a crown by leah johnson-- i haven’t personally read this one, but i’ve heard great things about it from everyone i know who has! an anxious black bi girl in indiana has to win prom queen at her mostly-white school in order to get enough scholarship money to go to the college of her dreams, but ends up falling for mack, another girl running for queen. 

@landlessbud wanted me to shout out red, white, and royal blue by casey mcquinston-- you’ve almost definitely heard about it before (first son and prince of wales, enemies-to-lovers with a side dish of political drama), and it is primarily about a mlm romance, but nora is a fabulously fun bi girl side character and there’s a lot of great stuff about figuring out your sexuality in it.

leah on the offbeat by becky albertalli-- i’ve read a lot of complex thoughts on this book, and mine are... i like it! it’s flawed, sure, and i wish it had handled a few things a little better, but you know what? it’s cute as fuck! leah is a fat bi drummer, and she’s super cool! abby is a great love interest, and she goes through a whole bi realization throughout the book. all in all, it’s just a fun wlw high school romcom with a couple solid dramatic beats and a lot of goofball shenanigans. also, if you were an american girl kid??? one scene in this book will make the entire experience worth it for you.

harley quinn: breaking glass by mariko tamaki and steve pugh-- hey, we’re in graphic novel territory now! this book is RAD. a really neat look at gentrification, community solidarity, giving people what they deserve, and fantastic lgbtq+ found families. teenage harleen quinzel is taken in by a group of drag queens, and is caught between two sort-of love interests-- mysterious vigilante the joker and classmate and community activist ivy-- and the different forms of protest and resistance they represent. the art here is STUNNING, and it’s a great read!

laura dean keeps breaking up with me, by the great mariko tamaki with art by rosemary valero-o’connell-- the vast majority of the characters are lgbt, with a lesbian main character, and the supporting cast including a bi nonbinary character, a bi girl character, and two mlm characters! this is mostly a piece about modern lgbtq+ teenagers and the way toxic relationships take over our lives. it’s one of the most cathartic things i’ve read in a LONG time, and especially if you’re at a point where your sexuality feels kind of vague, this is a great read because it embraces that vagueness by not needing to clearly label the characters and celebrates whatever point of clarity the characters are at. probably some of the most gorgeous art i’ve ever seen in a book, with a beautiful black-white-and-pink color scheme and a really neat approach to visual storytelling.

movies:

i don’t watch many movies, because i get bored really quickly hskdhskhds. but the movies i DO watch are usually gay!

wowie zowie its fried green tomatoes again!-- fannie flagg came back to adapt this into a film and HOT DAMN is it just as good. the plot is primarily the same, with some stuff obviously cut or trimmed to make it a two hour movie instead of a 450 page books fhsjdhsjhds. mary-louise parker plays ruth!!! it got a GLAAD award and an oscar nomination, and god it’s good. there are a couple scenes in here that i think are going to be in my mind until the day i die. the level of pure butch energy that idgie radiates in this film is a one-hit k.o. and it KILLS me.

birds of prey-- listen. this is not a profound movie. harley’s bisexuality isn’t emphasized, and romance is basically nonexistent in this movie. there is some... quite graphic violence. that said, this movie is so fucking fun. it’s mostly just a bunch of women fucking up everyone who crosses them while margot robbie gives a gleeful performance that you can just TELL she enjoyed the fuck out of. the last 20-30 minutes of this movie are the absolute best part, with a long sequence that kind of reinvented what an action/superhero movie could be for me. again, bisexuality isn’t a massive part of this-- it’s mentioned, and then harley just continues on in her gloriously campy outfits and breaks peoples’ knees. again, i CANNOT overemphasize just how fucking good the last 20-30 minutes are. this movie knows what it is and it embraces it. also, women beating people up in costumes that don’t horrifyingly objectify them is always a plus!

imagine me & you-- i’d be remiss if i didn’t mention this one, considering it’s probably one of the most iconic wlw romcoms. a woman named rachel, while at her own wedding, meets a florist named luce, and they fall in love. it’s a very sweet look at questioning your sexuality when you were already secure in it, and rachel’s husband wins “most genuinely understanding guy in a wlw movie” award. it has a lovely happy ending, and articles have been written about the importance of rachel being a bi character who a) gets a happy ending and b) isn’t shamed for figuring out her sexuality later on or slutshamed. this is just... a sweet movie. it’s the romcom a lot of us need in our lives. also, a LOT of floral imagery.

tv shows:

ok, i’ve got a confession. i reaaaaaaally don’t watch much tv. seriously, the only shows i’ve watched a substantial amount of recently have been parks and rec, schitt’s creek, the good place, and gilmore girls. i have a really REALLY short attention span.

that said, eleanor from the good place is bisexual!! the good place is a really wild ride, it’s half afterlife comedy half philosophical musing, and it will almost certainly make you gasp, laugh, think, and also probably cry. also, eleanor is just buckets of fun and she, like many of us, is often blown away by tahani (jameela jamil) and her beauty.

ummm shows i haven’t watched entirely or at all but that have bi women in them and seem pretty good: black lightning, sex education, jane the virgin, arrow. 

if you haven’t already watched it, do not believe what people are going to tell you about watching glee. it will drag you into a pit of despair and white men rapping, and it’s quite biphobic to top it all off.

#5 - normally not a big fanfic reader, and never thought of Serena joy as a lesbian. But I am really enjoying your work. You are such an excellent writer, capturing Serena so beautifully, I can totally picture her say and do all those things. And sure, full fledged lesbian, why not? I can dig it... Well, firstly and most importantly, THANK YOU for taking a chance! I know taht fanfic can be weird or uninteresting to some people, and it’s especially a leap when you don’t subscribe to the “shipping preferences”/character interpretation of the author/the story. So thank you for giving it a shot! That is very cool!!

And thank you so very much for your kind words about my writing!!! As @amusedrhyme can surely attest, I was quite iffy about posting it and how it would be received. I wasn’t sure it was up to snuff and she was very integral to me getting the balls to post it. If you can picture it and I’ve captured Serena to a sufficient degree, that is literally all I ask for! :D It means so much to hear.

Also, yeah, Serena being a big ole gay wasn’t exactly something I thought of in S1 at all. There were niggles but it wasn’t until S2 that I started to seriously play around with the idea in my head, especially because of its SUPREME ANGST potential and I fucking adore angst and conflict in my pairings. I will say however that I have zero illusions about it becoming canon. Neither Serena coming out of a closet she doesn’t even know she’s in, and especially not any June/Serena fantasy. The show will NEVER go there. I think partly because the LGBT community blowback would be too much (it’s a bad gay trope), partly because setting up even the hint of romance between abuser/abuse victim is so unbearably unpalatable (even if it does happen IRL sometimes. Eek.) and viewers would RIOT (and if you did even attempt to try it, it would be SO amazingly difficult to do for a mass audience), partly cos like 85% of viewers loathe Serena and would not abide her being paired with the main character they love, partly cos neither woman has been written as anything but super-straight and any hint of anything else is just the actresses’ chemistry/acting choices, partly because there is NO WAY IN HELL they’ll kill off Nick (unfortunately lol) and N*ck/June is like… their rabid fangirl catnip and there is no chance for June to even entertain anybody else whilst he (and Luke) is alive, and partly cos I don’t think they’ll actually redeem Serena to the degree I feel would even be necessary to remotely approach that idea. I think they’ll go that direction with her but how far? I’m not sure. I want to say ALL THE WAY!!! But I’m not sure THT will dare. I have a bad feeling they’ll kill her off in a season or two. (It always happens to my favs lol). So, it’s not gonna happen, lol. Too bad for me and like 20 other people. ;)

So, yeah when I watch the show, I don’t really ship it or see her as Big Gay Serena, if that makes sense? Like, I totally do on rewatches haha but initially on first watch I try to push it out of my head and just try to enjoy/watch (cos it’s not exactly enjoyable TV lol) as it is.

I just like to make her gay for my own entertainment. (Lesbian!Serena is my emotional support character/fandom coping mechanism muahaha.) I’m very aware in canon it’s 100% impossible and I get why people don’t feel it or the pairing. June is in a dumb love triangle with Nick and Luke (Don’t even get me started on making a show like THT play up a love triangle… ugh…) but ultimately I don’t think they’ll have her connected to any man. Well, I hope anyway.* Serena is going to die alone. I honestly don’t see them giving her anything else. She will not get a happy ending…

I did debate about whether to have her bi, or like full-on lesbian. I went with the latter. I left June as bi, which I feel is reasonable enough. I feel like it would be way too much of a reach to change June that much but Serena is more complex and less is known about her, and her emotional/romantic/(arguably, sexual) connection to her husband is 100x weaker than June’s (to either man, really). Not to mention her relationship with Fred, even in flashbacks has a lot of other layers and motives that I can ~warp lol. 

I’m just so happy there are people like you that take chances and keep an open mind! It’s so rare in fandom these days and so refreshing and wonderful. And like you say, “Why not?” It’s just fandom fun anyway. ;) Thank you so much again!!! Xx :D

*OKAY I WILL GET STARTED PLEASE FORGIVE ME. Now, I do get why they’ve put in a little bit of the Luke/June/Nick love triangle stuff because it really is a significant conflict that can realistically be expected. And it does have meaning to the larger story and especially June. I’m not trying to denigrate the impact Nick has had on June and her story. I just fear that in coming seasons they’re gonna keep the N/J thing going on and on and oooonnnnnn and it’s just so……. boring to me now lol. I feel like it’s served it’s purpose. I don’t particularly believe June will be able to reconnect with Luke on the same level they were prior to Gilead either. And I don’t want her just shoved with either man for the sake of a “happy ending” which Miller insists THT will have. I’d much rather her happy, with her daughters, and Luke can be in the picture, but not necessarily romantically any longer. (I do think Nick needs to die because I really, really, really don’t want an actual love triangle. I don’t want June to have to choose. (And I also don’t want a poly thing cos I…no. Not touching that and what it would say in the universe of THT.) And I wouldn’t be opposed to him dying while trying to save June, or another handmaid cos I’m tired of his only concern being June and not ALL the women that he’s complicit in oppressing. So, yes, I’m totally biased cos I don’t care for Nick. He bores me even if I understand why he exists (or I did. Now, I’m no longer convinced he should be around**), I don’t like him, in all honesty and I don’t want him to survive the season, let alone the entire series.)**When he magically reappeared after 2x11, sans any explanation or consequence!!!, I rolled my eyes so hard into the back of my skull I went permanently blind.        this  could  go  a  lot  of  ways.  gwen  doesn’t  necessarily  go  out  of  her  way  to  watch  tv,,  since  she’s  usually  busy  doing  other  things,  &  it’s  so  much  easier  to  simply  catch  up  on  her  own  time,,  but  if  the  tv  happens  to  be  on,  she  doesn’t  mind  sitting  down  to  see  what’s  on.  

       the  news  is   usually  on  in  the  morning,,  mostly  because  of  her  dad;  he  watches  it  before // while  he’s  getting  ready  for  work,,  so  she’s  grown  up  watching  it  with  a  bowl  of  cereal  ((  cereal  before  milk,,  don’t  test  her )).  it  becomes  sort  of  a  habit  for  gwen  to  turn  on  the  news  sometimes  in  the  morning  after  she’s moved  out,,  for  either  the  weather  or,,  to  get  a  general  understanding  of  what’s  going  on  in  the  world.  

       science  programs  are  always  an  easy  attention  grabber  for  gwen.  ofc,,  Planet  Earth  is  an  all  time  fav;  there  is  so  much  to  see  about  the  world,,  and  all  of  the  accompanying  monologues  are  super  fascinating  to  her.  plus,  it  just  has  an  overall  super  relaxing  vibe  to  it,,  which  is  pretty  hard  to  beat.  gwen  doesn’t  understand  how  some  people  think  it’s  boring.

       gwen  l o ve s  a  wholesome  feel-good  movie,,  especially  classic  rom  coms,  like  Pretty  in  Pink,  Sleepless  in  Seattle,  those  sorts.  also  gwen  is  100%  convinced  that  Kathleen  Kelly  and  Tom  Hanks  are  the  hollywood  soul  mates  of  rom  com  movies.  she  also  adores,,,  very  deep,  moving  films,  especially  ones  that  leave  you  thinking  long  after  you’ve  seen  it.  sci-fi  is  always  good  .  .  . &  thriller // fantasy.  a  good,, random  example  of the  sorts  of  more  thought  provoking  films  that  she  likes  would  be  Annihilation ? (( it  has  a  powerful  female  cast  of scientists  as  well,,  which  is  a  bonus  in  gwen’s  book )). canonically,  she’s  seen  the  movies  Liberated  Women,  Love  Story,  and  I  Am  Curious ( Yellow ),  so  a  wide  range  of  drama,  romance,  and  real  world  issues. 

       sometimes  you  just  have  the  tv  on  for  the  sake  of  background  noise.  and  cooking  shows,  my  friends .  .  . can  be  a  weird  addiction.  sometimes  gwen  will  just  have  them  on,, especially  in  the  afternoon  while  she’s  cooking.  gwen  LOVES  the Great British Baking Show  btw.  huge  fan.  most  definitely  her  favorite  cooking  show,,  without  a  doubt. 

       there  ARE  instances  where  she’ll  watch   a  show  on  the  coincidence  that  it’s  on,,  and  get  totally  hooked;  the  kind  of  stuff  that  comes  around  once  a   week,  on  a  certain  day,  at  a  certain  time.  it’ll  fall  nicely  into  her  schedule.

       gwen  does  watch  football  games  with  her  family  though,,  since  they  are  fans.  she’s  got  a  pretty  good  idea  of  what’s  going  on  parts  of  the  time,  and  knows  a  bit  of  the  stats // lingo.  they  all  rally  behind  the  new  york  yankees,  ofc.

       so,,  not  a  ton,  but  she  probably  watches  a  little  less  than  the  average  amount  of  tv.  she’s  more  likely  to  pick  up  a  book  than  a  tv  remote.

your top 5 fav characters from the 100 and the reasons why you love them

Okay, so this has been in my inbox for awhile now because my response will be kind of long and so my answer is below the cut :) 

1. Bellamy Blake (shocker)

I’m not going to go into many direct examples because we would be here all day but even for general reasons, my reasoning will be LONG . Also note that I wrote the Bellamy one when I first got the ask and I didnt realize how long it was compared to the others but Im trying to post this before work so sjfkdjf oops 

Bellamy has always been in my top 5 easily, and one of the only times he wasn’t  #1 was at the beginning of the first season because you all know that I really loved my son Wells Jaha who deserved better, but even when Bellamy’s character was “supposed” to be a jerk, he intrigued me more than a lot of the other characters.

Now, I personally don’t usually like the “asshole” characters because a lot of writers have given them stupid motives and have made them one dimensional when they have a lot of potential, but I could tell that the writers of The 100 knew what they were doing and showed quickly that he broke the mold. At the start we see that Bellamy’s love for Octavia is a huge plot point for him, it drove a lot of his motives and made me see why he did certain things because I have younger siblings and I know that I would’ve done anything to protect them if given the chance.

In 1x06, My Sister’s keeper, we dive deeper into the idea of having a sibling on the ark and we find that he had to give up everything, he had to give up his entire life for Octavia and he never even seemed to question it.Because of his responsibility to his family he likely coudln’t focus when it came to school/a social life, he couldn’t help his mother who had to give up even more than he did, he couldn’t have a proper childhood because he was basically a brother and a father at the same time, he couldn’t ever stay out with friends, he couldn’t bring anyone over, he couldn’t eat all of what little food and water he was allowed, he coudln’t fully help his sister who was forced to grow up as secret, he couldn’t relax for even a second because he knew that at any moment he could lose everything. When he was a 7-year-old boy he was told that it was his sister and his responsibility and he had no choice whatsoever and he accepted it and did everything he could for his mother and his sister, even if it meant suffering himself.

Now, for the more general reasons, we see quickly that he is charismatic and caring and brave and compassionate and selfless (to a fault at times). We see how he breaks nearly all of the stereotypes that we are accustomed to seeing on screen nowadays, not only male stereotypes but stereotypes of men of color and in Bellamy’s case, stereotypes of Asian/Filipino men. His character is one of the most alpha like characters on TV and yet we see him when he’s vulnerable around Clarke and some others, we see him cry like a normal human without really trying to hide it but it’s not portrayed in a way that makes him seem weak, it’s just his emotions and the fact that we even see him express emotion is huge for his character. Another main thing is that aside from all the good, he has his flaws. He is impulsive, overbearing at times, reckless when it comes to the people that he loves, he doesn’t have a strong sense of self-preservation, he can be too serious and this makes him one of the most complex characters ever and the way that Bob plays him is just incredible. When I look at his scenes, whether they are emotional or not, I am blown away because just in 1 second I can feel more emotion than some characters make me feel in an entire season. Bob loves and understands Bellamy more than anyone ever will and with every emotion that crosses his face, it becomes more and more apparent that his character is iconic.

2. Raven Reyes

I really could gush about Raven for YEARS. When we first met her character I honestly heard “boss ass bitch” playing in the back of my mind. For starters, she is brave and smart and badass and strong and caring and determined and driven.

 She is a huge part of every storyline and she always manages to pull through whatever it is that she’s/the others are dealing with. The first time I really realized that she was one of my absolute favorites was in 1X10, “I have become death.” She didn’t hesitate to do what needed to be done to save everyone, she was willing to die for people that she hardly knew because it was what had to be done. Raven was on the ground for 2 weeks less than the others and by the time she got down it was a lot of all work and no play but she didn’t ever question it. In that episode she knew that work had to be done and so she went to that bridge, even after she knew that she was sick, she persisted and was ready to die if it meant giving her people a fighting chance.

Even after 1x10 we see that she has suffered so damn much in her 19 years and a lot of the time she is suffering from what others have done to her but regardless, she continues to fight for those who have caused her pain because that’s who she is.

From being shot and nearly paralyzed, to being drilled for her marrow, to losing Finn, Gina, and Sinclair, to being strung up for a crime that she didn’t commit, to suffering through seizures that could kill her because she knew that the information from Becca could help them. Even after all she had given up, she rarely gave in to her pain or fear and the only time she did was with the chip and even then she showed just how much stronger she was.

Raven is wicked smart, finding a solution before someone even realizes that there is a problem, always having that last minute idea that saves the day. Hell, this girl KILLED HERSELF AND BROUGHT HERSELF BACK TO LIFE. She chooses life because she fights for it. Lindsey is incredible and we all know just how much she loves and respects Raven. The way Lindsey shows how Raven struggles internally with her pain is amazing and it makes us feel for her because we often forget that, though Raven is strong as all hell, she is suffering every day.

3. Clarke Griffin

I love my baby space bi and I will fight every person who comes @ her, just saying. Clarke is a character that very much suffers from “main character syndrome” where people see more of her and so she isn’t necessarily the #1 fan favorite, it happens in a lot of shows and I really don’t know the reason behind it but I know that it still happens. 

I love Clarke because though, I do like other characters more, I still see that she is one of the most realistic young adult characters ever. She makes mistakes and she gets angry and holds grudges and is selfish every once and awhile and though it can be frustrating it is true to her character because she is just a kid. Even though she is a kid she is resourceful, caring, cunning, direct, ambitious, strategic, conflicted, thoughtful and brave. Hell, her first day on the ground consisted of her fighting for these strangers who thought of her as nothing more than a privileged white girl. Then what did she do when Jasper was nearly killed for doing nothing? She demanded that they go back to him even when others were downright terrified but she went because she knew it was the right thing to do and knew that she would do what it took for them to survive even if she had no on to help her. 

At times Clarke can be a little too hell-bent on surviving and she forgets that they need to live. Unlike Bellamy, she uses her head more than her heart and can often come across as callous, but she still does what needs to be done even if it means being hated by the people that she loves because she would rather have them alive and hating her than loving her and dead. 

She is so emotionally strong, she has lost her father becasue of her mother, her best friend was murdered after they finally reconciled, she was forced to kill the first love of her life and then she had to watch another love die in her arms after their first time. Time and time again she moves on from what she goes through and pushes past her emotions because she needs to lead and then even when she’s pushing those emotions down we see them come back up around characters who allow her to be vulnerable and we get to see that she is not the commander of death or whatever, she is a kid with too much responsibility. 

4. Monty Green

The sweetest, most down to earth cinnamon roll to ever exist. Anytime I see him on screen I know that I’m gonna get some knowledged dropped down on me. Monty is so wise and understanding that I really don’t understand how it took some people so long to realize that he is the best. Like? Wtf? Love my son. 

Anywho, Monty is one of the kindest characters on this show. He is always looking out for his friends and always making sure that others are okay. He loves each and every one of them and is always shown to be looking out for them when Bellamy and Clarke (AKA the parents) can’t. In Mt. Weather he went looking for Harper and Clarke, he risked his life to find them. he demanded that they use him for marrow instead of Harper, he stayed by Jaspers side through his entire procedure with Maya, he talked with Miller about random things when they thought they were going to die just so he could cheer him up, he brought Harper tea, and then, even after all he had to do to save his people he still kept himself together for the sake of others. When we see him break and say that he is not fine it broke my heart becasue he is one of the most put together characters that we have and we he breaks we all break a little bit. 

There are grander gestures that he has done to ensure the survival of the people that he loves, the main one being that he knew that he couldn’t let his mother kill Octavia and so he took his gun and shot her. He killed his last family member to protect someone who didn’t even consider herself one of his people. Then he was forced to delete her code and basically had to go through the trauma of killing her all over again. Monty is supposed to be 15 turning 16 and he has to suffer through all this, while also being the glue that holds the delinquents together? How he does it and still manages to be optimistic and kind I will never know. 

5. The rest of the delinquents and Lincoln and Luna and Gaia and Niylah and Lxa You can’t make me pick one last one. I cannot do it.

Also this is not spoiler friendly, so if you haven't read the books, you might wanna skip.

Leigh Bardugo comes under a lot of criticism for a couple of reasons. I only think a few of them are actually valid takes, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

The first criticism that people make the fact that the series villain is a minority. The Grisha were hunted and oppressed. Making their all powerful leader, who was also hunted and oppressed, the bad guy makes ppl upset bc they don't understand nuance.

Another criticism is how she handled her POC rep. I think the one I've heard the most about is Zoya? Basically she's canonically "white passing" even tho she's of biracial heritage and Bardugo handled it very shitty. There's a few more, but that's the biggest one.

There's also a bunch of people mad about the fact that Alina loses her powers at the end. Because the powers apparently represent a minority status, her shedding them is like...not great, according to some antis.
