I just had to share this email I got so all y'all can appreciate the absolute state of welfare services in Australia with me:
The NILs Loan Scheme is a government funded, no interest loan scheme for people on low incomes, but this leaves me wondering exactly who tf can qualify for their loans. Because it seems like if you have any symptoms of poverty it's a no.
I applied because I need the clutch replaced in my van, which I live in. It's lucky that I actually CAN afford the cost myself (due to living in a van & not participating in Australia's increasingly ridiculous housing market). I thankfully can afford such an expense these days & was just looking for a responsible financial buffer, just in case. But if this had happened to me a few years ago when I first became homeless and was far less financially stable, then my next living situation wouldn't be "affordable housing" it would be a fucking tent.
Anyway, the backwards ass state of a GOVERNMENT FUNDED welfare scheme refusing to assist those who need welfare the most because they don't want to encourage homelessness or whatever the dumb fuck? Just really rustled my jimmies tbh. Just screams "yet another govt welfare scheme that's actually just about handing out money to fake charities & not helping the poor". Good Shephard just got on the "do not donate to these grifters" list along with the Salvos😒
#I got a root canal & a heap of skin cancer to pay for on top of this clutch replacement right#& I got it#but there's going to be $100 left in my bank account with this all said & done#& I could use ZIP or AfterPay or whatever if need be#but I figured a no-interest no-fee no-nothing loan would be the gold standard of responsible financial decision-making#& lol turns out the eligibility requirements for a NILs loan are HIGHER than a Buy Now Pay Later (w exorbitant fees) type of loan#how tf can you call that a loan scheme for people on low incomes?#when you gotta be at least middle class to qualify?#the fucking state of Australian welfare agencies istg#& I ain't even shocked atp because this is the response I've always gotten from welfare agencies#they always have some (often very stupid) excuse as to why they can't do what they say they do#I hear so often “oh there's plenty of support for the poor & homeless they just choose to be that way”#but this is the support just fyi#this is why poverty & homelessness still exist in Australia#bc all the agencies & organisations & departments & corporations that are “on the job” are only on the job of securing their own pay checks#with as little expenditure on the poor as they can get away with#auspol#poverty

Literally can't pay my rent until I get paid for September, which hasn't happened yet. Today is Friday, and Monday is the last day of the month. I'm so tired of being poor.
#i still cringe to call myself 'poor' bc i have my own apartment and can afford groceries#and even fun stuff like museums and cafe visits and public transport sometimes#but the reality of the matter is that after i pay off my student loans every month#i do not have enough money left to pay the following month's rent#and that's the way it's been my whole life#all my groceries and museum visits and coffee come from those few hundred euros left over#my whole life i've been choosing between 'having savings' and 'having even the smallest most humble life' and obviously i choose the latter#i never go to the movies#i buy all my clothes second hand (got some this past month after not having bought any new clothing in almost two years)#i have visited a museum TWICE this year#i go to restaurants like... once a month max#i am living the most frugal life that i possibly can without denying myself all pleasures#i don't even have netflix or anything like that! i only very rarely order delivery! i cook my own damn meals!#you get the picture#and yet still: one single missed paycheck is enough to potentially fuck up my life seriously#i've never missed a rent payment in my life but i'm scared it may happen this time#just wrote to HR of my former employer (who is supposed to still be paying me through october) to politely ask where my paycheck is#it's probably coming today (i sure as hell hope so) but if it doesn't... i legit don't know how i'm going to pay my rent#my rent is 673 euros and i only have 400 in my bank account#i probably have enough food in my pantry to survive for a month if i had to#but i've never missed rent in germany before (or ever) and i have no idea how long they'd wait before evicting me for non-payment#i'm scared. and i'm tired of being apparently the only fucking person in my social groups who is this poor#i am an over-educated 37-year-old professional who typically gets classed with the 'expats'#but one missed salary payment has me thinking about eviction and affording groceries#this is what i mean when i say i'm an immigrant. not an expat.#those people with their apple watches and co-working spaces and spontaneous trips to thailand or brazil are... a world apart from me#how come everyone i meet is so damn rich? where do i find fellow poor friends?#anyway i'm stressed. and i'm so so tired of spending my mental energy worrying about money#cosmo gyres#personal

trying to buy 50% of my boyfriend's apartment (which we currently live in and he owns 100% right now)... and I'm applying for loans for buying an apartment for the first time and holy fuck it's frustrating. several banks have auto denied my application without even speaking to me because they think i'm a single person with a single income trying to buy an apartment, when that's not even the case. and even if it was it's making me incredibly sad to realize that if I WAS single I could not even at the age of 30 buy a single room apartment on my own. even tho i have the money saved up for a deposit and according to my own calculations i would have the ability to make payments on the loan even if i was alone (i don't have a very high salary but i also don't spend much money so i do fine). but based on numbers alone the banks would deny my application without even talking to me.
#i think it will probably work out cause we finally got to speak to a human being#who made a note on our previous application and told us to apply again#because applying as two people (one of which already own the damn place) should make the loan application go through#several banks have just had AI auto deny me within seconds of sending it in hjdsfgds#but it's humbling to realize that if i was single i'd probably be renting until i die or maybe able to buy something when i'm like 50#that's what 4 years in uni gets you as a medical professional lmao

my dad emailed me b/c my parents are actually going to help with some loan repayment...they've approved of helping me entirely pay off the highest interest loan i have, which will be AMAZING
#shitpost#tbh? i have issues with my parents but a major one was a lack of monetary support#when like. the fact they do so well is why i couldn't get more govt support.#and so ive been drowning for years. i pay more towards my loans every month than i do for rent#anyways. paying off this one loan would decrease my monthly payment by 100 dollars.#so i'd be paying $900 instead of 1k. like#im shaking a bit its such an exciting idea.#and they're giving me a bit more too so i'll have a little bit more in my savings...#which ISNT MUCH like i am 100% living paycheck to paycheck lol. but it'd be nice to have closer to 10k in my bank account lol...#my ideal would be more than that obviously but i gotta take what i can lol#ok. monetary blogging sorry.

Y'know what fuck it icemav having a mansion as house. Let them have these two stories with three bedrooms because one is for them, one is because they have to fake it until the repeal of the DADT (but it's mostly used as home office) and one for baby Bradley. A cozy place they call their own, and that makes them not afraid to be around each other or to be a family because they had such a shitty childhood that they now deserve everything they want, and that's that. A patio and a garden for every single time they try to grow something, where they fail but it's okay because mistakes aren't the end of the world, and they can learn how to fix them together. And a garage that gets bigger after five years of them living there because their neighbours don't need a piece of their share property, and so they buy it, and Mav goes a little crazy because all that space is his now. A house cat that gives everybody a heart attack for day and walking distance from most places where they can go walking that, at some point, Mav has to dust is bike.
#i love every single Mediterranean house(?) ice buys in every fic#even if i never saw one in person lol#the name is very not so much explanatory of what a Mediterranean house is#but for once i want them to have something simple and maybe out of character bc everybody is waiting for the big house™️ when it comes to-#-down to admirals#the important it's their name on the bank loan they asked when they brought it and on the bills they received every months bf the digital-#-copies#and yep ice is still going to gift mav of the hangar but that's a different kind of story#tom iceman kazansky#pete maverick mitchell#icemav

i don't understand the older generation's propensity to blame the younger generation for not being able to save enough due to rising prices.
"just spend less!!!" as if there aren't studies and charts that already show that income vs. the rising price of food/necessities has become so dispropotionate over the past decade or so
they complain about how the younger generation eats outside all the time instead of cooking at home. but how do you cook at home when all you can afford to rent is a room, or the house you rent doesn't allow cooking?
or if you're only eating outside once a month and cook at home the rest of the time they say "stop eating outside food". like if you cut down your outside food budget by RM60(USD15) a month, you can miraculously afford a down payment on a house.
and even if you can afford a house, the prices are astronomical nowadays--- you'd probably have to take out a 20-year loan to do so, vs in the past when houses were so much cheaper.
maybe all these problems seem very nonconsequential to most of the older generation/people in charge, since they're usually part of the high income bracket people, but tbh most of the population in the country(especially the younger ones) are probably only a few paychecks away from going homeless.
like!!! my dudes!!! why are you siding with the corporations when they don't even have your backs and are one of the main causes of all this as well...?
are people not allowed to treat themselves once every now and then with? if not, what's the point of working in the first place?!
#4pm thoughts.#my brother once told us he thought of renting a room outside to skip the 3 hour commute.#and then realized he would only have rm150ish a month in terms of savings after rent deduction.#and then our parents thought it was a good idea!!! because he would learn independence!!!#and then I asked them but what would happen if something came up one day. eg. his car breaking down and needing to repair it.#then they said he'd have to figure things out himself and think how to get money to repair the car???#like huh how disconnected from current day struggles do you have to be#speaking of houses and house loans.#back then you could pay off your house loan in 5-10 years and you wouldn't even have to break the bank to do so.#and you could get a house with an actual garden on a piece of land.#nowadays the dream of owning a house is gone since you can probably only afford an apt.#and even then you'd have to take a 20-year loan. if the bank even approves it in the first place due to your salary.

In a bit of a rough spot right now (woke up to an email about the test results for our cat and he's got kidney issues that need further expensive testing + dog is on new pricey meds) so if I'm distant or more awkward than usual that's why ✌️no harm or insult meant to anyone
#when my RSI calms down I'll make another comm post but for now doing art will make it super worse#man I hate this happening in my birthday month of all times#but that's on me for not banking on having enough money to take them in last month instead#their annuals are normally in August anyways it's just. $900 for two exams plus all their vaccines plus new dog meds + additional testing-#-bc the cat had lost weight so...#put me under what I can afford for rent and drained all of my savings + what I already had set aside for them#and I really don't know that I can afford the rest for treating the cat#but yeah uh. super tight on money. won't be able to afford to do anything for myself on the 20th. don't know that I can afford glasses#hoping against hope that I get a big scholarship or student loan reimbursement this upcoming semester

#I’VE SPENT ALL DAY TRYING TO GET IT FINISHED BUT NOOO#I FILLED OUT EVERYTHING CORRECTLY I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY IT WON’T LET ME COMPLETE IT#what makes it all the more frustrating is that this could all be avoided completely if we#just STOPPED BOMBING OTHER COUNTRIES#WE DON’T NEED TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR OUR MILITARY#and the old fucking asshats who run this stupid shitshow all think that since THEY had to pay off their student loans#(even though they almost certainly did not because they’re all banked up with their daddy’s money)#then WE should have to pay it off too#and it’s ridiculously overpriced too#for me to attend for four years is $120.000#for WHAT??#i just wanna learn about plants man please this is insane#it would be soooo beneficial to our overall economy if school was just free (or wayyy cheaper) but no#politicians LIKE when we’re in debt to them so they can control us#i’m so mad rn if you couldn’t tell#i had a whole rant ready but i don’t feel like being put on a watchlist#if the revolution doesn’t happen within my lifetime i’m gonna be so fucking pissed off

I'm also not from the UK but I've never heard of anyone who has bought a home cash because there are very few upsides to doing that. It sounds like it's a bit of a cultural thing? Most people where I'm from will have a mortgage + savings with the bank because that is the most stable and safe way to handle your money, but if your country has a history of that not being safe and stable I understand your point a little bit better.
oh, yeah, my country has history with banks and money. aka, any "interest-bearing deposit" won't guarantee you any income. the % is so small and the inflation is so high that we're losing money anyway. add getting a loan with the rate of 15% (which is not fixed now) for 20+ years and you will lose any purpose of life here. i'm glad UK is having it better despite brexit and war in Ukraine.
#i still don't think all this loans and credits system is a good one. no matter what country we're talking about.#banks get richer people don't. no matter the rates#answered

ugh i have to start paying my student loans again in September
#i never should have gone to college they shouldn't have trusted me with money it's not a lot but like i was SEVERELY depressed#and did NOT realize and i made bad choices and now i owe a couple thousand dollars still even after all this time#even though i dropped out after a year#because they let me do the max amount of fuckin loan and were like 'ok here u go 18 year old have 5 thousand dollars' what a joke#and then i my depression hit like a train and i stopped going to class and was under academic probation#which made the school go 'ok you owe us 1000 dollars right now because we had to pay that to the government' which was a bad time#and i did not pay that so they TOOK ALL MY MONEY FROM MY BANK ACCOUNT which was also not a good time#and then sent that to collections and they hounded me for years until eventually that just....stopped? which is cool#anyway this was a weird rant sorry!!! i just regret being pressured into going to college when everyone already knew i was bad at school

any time I see people tying minor world events to economics I’m like. that’s not how economics works. I know you want it to be how it works so you can blame someone. but that’s not how it works in any country or global economy.
#it’s like saying gravity only exists on Tuesdays#this is directly looking at two things:#one: saying the FFR (federal funds rate) is why ‘start up’s’ in the gig economy are failing#and two: someone saying we should cause a bank run (multiple bank runs) when we’re still in pre-recession waters#per point one: the FFR is for banks and credit unions and determines what rate at which lending happens#it effects things like housing; car loans; savings accounts; etc because it sets a floor at which interest rates have to be#it does not affect how much money VCs pour into companies they think are going to be worth billions#which VCs pour money into them so they get a % of the company as stock#so they’re incentivized for the company to do well and make them a profit when they go public#not to say these companies might not have traditional bank loans but it’s very unlikely for the amount they’re spending#additionally as we all should have learned from the Glass-Stegel act and the 08 crash#banks need to keep their commercial investments and consumer investments separate#so yes these companies are failing…. but for other reasons like increased regulation; changing preferences in the consumer and economy;#but MOSTLY they were unsustainable businesses at the onset; they didn’t need to be profitable; just go public and make billions on stock#now for point two this one is simple: IF YOU CAUSE MULTIPLE BANK RUNS#THEY BECOME A SELF FULFILLING PROPHECY#AND THEN MORE BANKS FAIL AND WE GET A RECESSION#all caps were necessary here#if you look at the Great Depression (a great example of a banking panic)#not all of the banks were initially failing#but by people panicking about their money (and a lack of the FDIC at the time)#but because people panicked and pulled their money out the banks failed anyway and caused the worst recession in US history#so yes feel free to cause a banking run and tank the economy#it’s likely Europe will enter a recession in the next 6 months so please exacerbate the situation#(which because global economy will push us further into possible recession)#I’m sure people will have plenty of time to feel smug and superior while sitting on a mattress of cash and looking for jobs#ugh anyway bad economics bothers me#just cause you watched a dude rant about it on YouTube (when he doesn’t know what a Phillips curve is) doesn’t mean you know economics#thoughts? thoughts#or: wHy DoNt YoU jUsT bAlAnCe ThE eCoNoMy LiKe My ChEcKbOoK

my loan got approved, its kinda wild tbh you can just go to your bank and be like "money me" and after you jump through hoops like a dog they give you money.
#$8200 total#whats nice is that theyre going to pay off my credit lines for me#this $8200 is being added to the car loan I already have with them which is about $6900#im basically taking ~$7000 worth of high APR credit card debt and turning it into a lower interest rate bank loan#going from like 10 different things I gotta pay every month to 3
