Sirius: “—Shin. Are you done with the job?”

Shin: Yep, it’s a—ll taken care of. I’ve got the substance. And before any of those HELIOS guys could get there too ♪

Sirius: “I see…”

Shin: It’s for you after all, so obviously the mission went flawlessly. That’s worth a treat once I get back, yeah? ♪

Sirius: “Of course I know I can trust you, but still make sure to contact me once you’re done. It’d be a shame to miss the mark at the last minute.”

Shin: Whatever…

Sirius: “Where are you right now? You should come back quickly.”

Shin: Hmm, don’t feel like it yet. The surface’s all holly and jolly right now with Christmas coming up…

Sirius: “That’s exactly why I need you to come home now…”

Sirius: “You’re becoming unstable again. I’m worried about you, Shin—”

Shin: You can’t see a single star in the sky.

Sirius: “...”

Shin: Even though the atmosphere is clear, you can’t see a~nything with all this snow.

Shin: Orion and the Winter Triangle are supposed to be visible from here. Your namesake star as well.

Sirius: “I didn’t think you were interested in the stars.”

Shin: I wouldn’t be on my own, but I suddenly remembered something from my childhood… A memory…

Sirius: “...”

Shin: Hey, Sirius… What happened to Air?

Sirius: “...So you remember again.”

Sirius: “While your abilities are remarkable, it’s concerning how poorly they mesh with mine.”

Shin: I should’ve known you did it again…

Shin: Air… The fact that he ran away… You…

Sirius: “It’s not like that. I altered your memories for your sake.”

Sirius: “Does it not cause you pain to remember him? I was only trying to protect your fragile heart.”

Shin: …

Sirius: “Hurry home, Shin. There’s no need for you to go through this pain.”

Sirius: “There’s plenty of Christmas cheer in the Lost Garden. We can celebrate it together.”

Shin: …I absolutely despise Christmas.

Sirius: “Shin…”

Shin: It’s fine, Sirius. I’ll come back.

Shin: I wouldn’t do something like run off on my own…

Shin: I wouldn’t abandon my precious family like that.

Sirius: “...I understand. Take care on your way back.”

*[Hangs up]*

Shin: …

Shin: Hey, where did you go…

Shin: …Air—

???: Don’t get too excited now.

Shin: Hm?

???: Papa. Mama. I didn’t get a chance to say this at dinner but—

Shin: Huh… Well, don't they look ju—st merry? A family celebrating the holidays, hm?

Shin: …Having fun, are we?

*[Explosions]*

Shin: KYAHAHAHAHAHAHA…!

Shin: Merry Christmas ♪ I’ll burn a~ll your cold, dark feelings away…

Shin: No matter how fierce the blizzard, my flames will rage through it all…

Shin: Are you warm now, Air…? You’re weaker than most to the cold, aren’t you?

Shin: Are you spending Christmas all alone now that you’ve abandoned me?

Shin: Or have you found someone else? A new family…?

Shin: If that’s the case, then I’ll never ever forgive you…

Shin: More… More… I’ll burn it all to the ground…

i don't really like when people say dungeon meshi is accidentally good autistic representation, because while i understand not wanting to make conclusions without explicit confirmation from the author, there's always the weird assumption that non-western authors somehow don't know about things like neurodivergency/queerness/etc. (on top of the assumptions that east asian authors are somehow more naive or oblivious to "western" social issues).

given that dungeon meshi started being published in 2014, it's not really a "work belonging to its times"—it's as contemporary as any other media we discuss on this site, which means it should be fair to assume it engages with contemporary topics (and at the very least, you shouldn't say that the representation is accidental with so much confidence)

but anyways, the chapter "perfect communication" in ryoko kui's "terrarium in a drawer" is some of the most straightforward autistic representation I've seen, and from now on I'm going to assume that laios's character writing is absolutely intentional in that regard:

If you (like me) use Google Doc to write fanfic, you may (like me) have been annoyed by the new "feature" they added in the past few weeks, "Smart Chips," where by default every time you open a new line it auto-inserts a "@" symbol and then prompts to add additional people into the doc for review or whatever other useless thing I immediately closed out of.

There doesn't appear to be a way to turn off this "feature" in GDocs however someone has put out an extension that nixes it:

feel like psych deserves more credit for manifesting guest stars from almost every single property it referenced. i know plenty of shows have pop culture relevant guest stars but none of them make references that are so very specific and none of them get 99% of their references to actually show up. like psych will throw out a name exclusively for the bit and then an unpredictable number of episodes/seasons later that person will literally show up as murderer/victim/random extended family member of the week with no comment. george takei. william shatner. cybill shepherd from moonlighting. almost every single actor from the breakfast club (one of them recurring!). biff and doc brown from back to the future. dr frankenfurter himself. literally carey elwes. john cena??? john rhys davies. half the cast of twin peaks. the original "come on son" guy. alan ruck. michael rooker. both leads from she's all that. winston from ghostbusters. bud's mom from the cosby show. curt smith from tears for fears (who also sang live with them at an event, like, twice). they mentioned billy zane and val kilmer so many times per season that through sheer willpower they got billy zane and val kilmer to both show up in their series finale. those guys committed to their bits so hard that they ended their show with one of the most diversified and stacked cameo rosters in tv & thats honestly so funny and iconic of them
