jay white accidentally stabs darby.

Technically, it’s Juice’s fault. He was the one who found Darby asleep on one of the couches backstage in the first place, and had immediately wrangled up the rest of the gang.

“Oh my god, we should totally prank him!” Austin whispers with a giggle. “We could like, stick his hand in a bowl of water and make him piss himself.”

“Or, we could put cool whip on his hand, tickle his nose so that he gets it all over his face!” Colten says.

“Too easy,” Jay scoffs. “That’s child’s play.” He flicks his knife back and forth. “We need something that screams ‘the bang bang gang has arrived’!”

“Hey,” Juice whispers, looking around like someone could hear. “Maybe we don’t prank him- maybe we scare him.”

Everyone hums in thought.

“Juice, talk to me baby; what’s going on in that beautiful head of yours?” Jay asks.

“Listen: he’s sleeping peacefully, like a baby. Someone wakes him up, and bam! He’s got a knife on him, he doesn’t know what’s happening, he shits himself thinking he’s going to die, we laugh and call him a pussy and he knows not to mess with us!”

“Sounds extreme,” Austin says, slightly unsure. “I mean- what if we end up actually stabbing him?”

“Serves him right for messing with the bang bang gang,” Colten huffs.

“I like it,” Jay says. “What should we do? Just like,” he moves and holds the knife over Darby’s chest, the tip barely touching him, “hold it here, and one of you scare him?”

“Yeah!” Juice agrees, nodding excitedly.

“Maybe not so close-“ Austin tries to say.

Darby stretches upward in his sleep- right into Jay’s knife.

Everyone stops, staring in horror as Darby’s body drops back down, his head lolling to the side.

“…Did we just kill Darby?” Colten whispers.

“It wasn’t me,” Juice says quickly, and then runs.

“Wait for us!” Austin whisper yells, dragging Colten with him.

“Wait- boys, you can’t just-“ Jay sighs with frustration and fear, staring down at Darby’s still-breathing body-

Wait. He looks. Darby isn’t even bleeding.

“What the hell?”

Darby yawns, stretches again, and then goes to scratch at his chest. His hand touches the blade and he startles, bleary eyes opening. “What the…?”

He sits up, blinks, and frowns. “Okay, who just stabbed me? I was napping. What the hell?” He turns and sees Jay standing there, mouth dropped open. “Ha-ha, very funny, Jay.” He pulls the knife out and closes it before tossing it to him.

Jay barely catches the knife in his hands. “What- you’re not dead?”

Darby laughs for real this time. “Sweetheart, I’ve been dead this whole time. You’re gonna need a lot more than a knife to kill me.” He stands up, stretches once more until a loud pop is heard. “Oh yeah, there we go.” He hops a few times, wiggling his arms about. “Don’t go stabbing everyone you see, Switchblade; people are gonna think you’re dangerous, and we can’t have that, now can we?” He blows an obnoxious kiss towards him before walking away, prodding at his new wound.
