Manwhore AU headcanon
I like to believe Manwhore Ody got home shortly after the war ended because he didn't have to deal with any of the bullshit that canon Ody has to deal with.
Like imagine: if only he seduced his way out of the whole Polyphemus situation, he wouldn't have pissed off Poseidon, meaning he would've got home pretty much immediately.
I'm not even saying he had to fuck Poly (he'd die), but he could've used his babygirl looks or something. Be like "I'm sorry about your sheep, pookie *bats eyelashes*", but no. He just had to abandon all reason and blind the cyclops before telling him his full legal name and address.

Epic the Musical fans, I'm gripping you by the shoulders to tell you that Penelope has a sister who she is very very close with in the Odyssey who was named Iphitimene.
Not only a sister, but in each myth she is in, she has a lot of brothers. At least around 4 or 5.
The Potential for Eldest daughter Pen, Middle child Pen, and/or baby sister Pen is ENDLESS!!!
She is also half-naiad at the very least (in most myths) with her mother being a river nymph named Periboea. She can even be 3/4th naiad if you go with the myth of her father, Icarius, being the son of Bateia, another naiad.

How Athena could've fixed everything:
Athena: Finish it.
Odysseus: No... What good would it do, when mercy is a skill more of this world could learn to use -
Athena: No, no, no, stfu. You want to be merciful? Do that with literally anyone else. That's my cousin and you need to fucking obliterate him before he calls his Dad to pick him up.
Ody: sorry.. come again?
Athena: Did. I. Stutter? You want Uncle Poseidon, God of the fucking SEA on your ass while you SAIL HOME? You wanna fuck with that Odysseus? Huh?? No? Then hurry your ass up.
Ody: ... Change of plans! Eury, gimme that spear -
Athena: *muttering to herself as she ascends and murder is committed* Dumbass. Sure let's show mercy for shits and giggles, oh I'm sure that won't come back to haunt me like my dead comrades. What does he think this is? A musical??

My take on a polites lives au
I've seen a bunch of polites lives aus, so here's a way I think that could go down
During the Cyclops attack polites is spared. There's a chance that Odysseus does kill the Cyclops here because he's not trying to honor polites, then Poseidon never comes up and they make it home easily, but we're gonna say that he does so this is longer than two sagas. So the fight goes the same except that polites lives. Afterwards polites would probably be like "I'm proud of you Captain, any other man wouldn't have shown mercy to the Cyclops" and ody would be like "any man besides you, my friend"
The storm hits and they see the floating island all the same. I feel like luck runs out might turn into an argument between ody and eury with polites moderating. Polites would go with Odysseus up to aeolus, so he would know the bag isn't treasure. I've seen versions of this where the bag never gets opened so, again, no Poseidon, but then this is only three sagas so we're gonna do something different. Polites tells Odysseus to put his faith in the crew, so ody and him go to bed, but the bag gets opened. I don't think it was eurylochus in this au, cause if Odysseus AND Polites are telling him it's not treasure I think he'd believe them, so some other random crew member opened it. Ody would be mad at polites for letting him go to sleep. Poseidon still happens, but he has to change the lyrics of ruthlessness a bit cause "47 left under your command" doesn't fit as well. Maybe polites could also get a verse in this song arguing with Poseidon about their very different views on mercy.
They end up on Circe's Island and ody is still a bit mad at polites. Eurylochus goes off, and polites probably goes somewhere else on the island. Ody and Circe still have their battle all the same. Polites meanwhile saves Elpenor (cause I'm just trying to save as many crew members as I can at this point). At the end of the Circe saga ody and polites make up (maybe in a reprise of open arms or something? I know there aren't really reprises, but some song that uses the same melody. It would be called 'my friend' or something).
They go to the underworld still, but obviously polites didn't die so that doesn't happen. It's also only "556 men, who died under your command!" Polites is there to support ody when he sees his mom and the rest of the crew. They meet up with the prophet, and that's probably pretty similar, but maybe there's some lines about how polites (who's standing there too) "wasn't supposed to make it this far" (cause, y'know, polites actually dies). Odyssey doesn't have Monster, and instead maybe just talks to polites about how they're gonna get home.
When dealing with the sirens polites probably encourages ody to not kill the sirens, and maybe they realize they should keep some to feed to scylla. No casualties happen during scylla, and cause eury didn't open the wind bag there's no fight that happens between ody and eury. Because of that no cow stabbing would happen, so no Zeus happens either. They make it home 7 years earlier, and I think there's 48 of them, so that's pretty good. Ody beats up the suitors (there's probably less of them than in the wisdom saga) and they all live happily ever after.
@cr4zy-cycl0n3 made good points about the scylla encounter in the reblogs

My biggest issue in Epic the Musical is Odysseus, actually. In this essay, I will....
#good god I hate his (lack of) character arc#if you want me to believe he is a monster then he gotta be consistently!!!! monstrous!!!#but no he is constantly allowed to be a poor pissbaby because portraying him as anything *gasp* morally dubious is bad#idk i don't know anything about the og myths but to me Epic's Odysseus bounces around between moods far too fast but he is always allowed t#reset back into what he has been from the start#none of his angst feels earned at any point because basically all the “bad choices” he's been put into have been outside of his control#except maiming the sirens and sacrificing people to scylla#which feel so out of character at that point to me because the next song he's whining to Zeus to not make him choose between him and his me#bitch if you were willing to sacrifice them two seconds ago why not now#why not have odysseus be the one to suggest sacrificing his men instead of him to show how far he is actually willing to go#but noooo his hand needs to be forced because???#at that point in the musical I feel like he should've been far more cruel so the Ithaca saga will actually feel like something#gives this man some agency to be a fucked up guy by himself. please.#it would've made the poseidon fight even more satisfying. he's capable because he has grown so cold. but no#idk maybe I'm missing the point but ugh#I saw a great comment unrelated to this that was like#“if you aren't comfortable with dark implications in your stories then don't write dark stories”#which I feel like applies here so well#epic the musical critical

The gods won't make the same mistake twice
There's one hero Percy Jackson is similar to, someone the gods broke, and they regretted it
Someone kind, that they made ruthless
Someone loving, that they made brutal:
Odysseus

Headcanon Hermes ordered Calypso to give Odysseus what he needs to build a raft and Hermes didn't tell her it wasn't a part of the pantheon's command :>
Calypso lashed out by passive aggressively singing to Odysseus as she gives him the materials
The best part? Odysseus still walks away

“Here you go, Lee Dongsik-ssi."
Dongsik looks up and smiles sunnily at Joowon, who has returned to their table with their order.
"Thank you, Joowon-ah,” he tells him earnestly as he gratefully accepts the bowl of fresh noodles and fish soup that Joowon has handed to him.
Joowon merely inclines his head, but there’s a soft upturning of the corners of his lips that Dongsik doesn’t miss.
He then watches as Joowon turns to their other companion at their table.
“Hyung.”
Hyeok beams as Joowon hands him his own meal. “Thanks, Joowon-ah.”
Dongsik scowls as Hyeok digs into his pretentious plate of steak and fries. He’s pretty sure Jaeyi serves better quality meat than that.
Joowon sits beside his precious hyung across from Dongsik with his own meal of rice topped with stewed pork and vegetables—a sort of middle ground between Dongsik’s traditional Korean cuisine and Hyeok’s Western fare.
“I can’t believe you,” Dongsik grumbles at Joowon, who daintily starts eating. “You’re ‘Joowon-ah’ to both of us, but he’s already your ‘hyung’.”
He juts his chin towards Hyeok, who merely smirks as he pops a fry into his mouth.
“Why am I still honest to god ‘Lee Dongsik-ssi’?”
“Of course you are,” Joowon says airily as Dongsik’s scowl deepens. “You will never be hyung to me.”
Hyeok grins, and Dongsik wants to punch him. “‘Cause that’s always gonna be me.”
“But why?” Dongsik all but whines. “What makes him so special?”
“Yeah, Joowon-ah.” Hyeok dabs at his mouth with a napkin and turns to Joowon; Dongsik swears the prat is preening. “What makes me so special?”
Joowon chews his food thoughtfully and swallows before answering with a completely straight face: “Because no one else in my life is more annoying than you.”
It’s Hyeok’s turn to scowl as Dongsik lets out a big belly laugh. “Yah,” Hyeok grouses, “isn’t the old man more annoying than me?”
“I’m only six years older than you, punk,” Dongsik smiles winningly, grinning when Hyeok all but sticks his tongue out at him.
“Lee Dongsik-ssi is indeed also annoying,” Joowon cuts through the conversation sagely. Hyeok straightens, looking smug. “However, his type of annoyance is—of a different sort.”
“Oh?” Hyeok’s interest is piqued now. “What sort?”
At this point, as if by some unspoken connection, both Dongsik and Joowon turn to Hyeok in unison. Hyeok blinks when Joowon merely arches an eyebrow at him, as if wordlessly asking: ‘Do you really want to know?’
Hyeok then turns to Dongsik—who grins and waggles his eyebrows at him lasciviously.
“No,” Hyeok states in horror as realization abruptly dawns on him—why Joowon pulls out the chair for Dongsik’s seat and serves him, why Dongsik’s hand is always on the small of Joowon’s back.
Why the two of them had looked rumpled and out of breath when they reappeared after a “bathroom break”—together.
“No,” Hyeok repeats vehemently as he squeezes his eyes shut amidst Dongsik’s peal of laughter. “Don’t ever tell me. Not even on my deathbed.”

Rn I'm watching Gwendy's video and... Athena bleeding red was on purpose !! That's NOT a mistake, but a visual symbol of her journey towards humanity (in contrast to Odysseus, who's becoming a monster) This isn't a nitpick anymore. I feel so relieved.
