ive honestly never felt such feral rage
i think it's this savagery born of someone rendered helpless in a bleak situation, lashing out as you view the world shake its head and discuss your well-being as if you weren't aware--like you can't hope to comprehend what's best for you
i want to scratch and bite and scream and choke
and i sit here with this unfamiliar sensation--an overwhelming ferocity ive never experienced before
and i recognize that this pain isn't even mine. not directly
so if im so overcome with this after only weeks of simply reading about these injustices, what will living with them for years do to you?
#dick moves with d#i actually want to vomit#and for anyone saying I should step away that's not really what this is about#stepping away will do nothing bc reading about these stories isn't making my throat close up#it's the knowledge it's happening#that it's still going on and the world could literally stop it#but instead the un rings alarm bells for yet another week of the humanitarian crisis becoming dire#approaching levels of critical failure#have we not reached that point? do we refuse to acknowledge it bc doing so#is admitting that we simply let it happen as opposed to the narrative#that we are working to prevent it?

Y'all I did NOT know this about Harris, and I think it's really critical that we all listen and understand as we approach this election. Video at the end.
This creator's video describes how progressive Harris was as a prosecutor -- actively going against the grain to the point she was accused of being soft on crime. Accused of being a social worker, not a prosecutor. She calls it being smart on crime. She's pushing for systemic changes to give real pathways to reintegrate incarcerated folks back into society and prevent their past from continuing to haunt them moving forward.
"Kamala's a cop" is a catchy dismissive response usually used to shut down conversation rather than add nuance. But this kind of reform is ESSENTIAL to work towards a present and future that treats incarcerated people with value.
I fell for it in 2020 and have thought "Kamala's a cop" without further inspection since - and I'm sobered by the realization that (you guessed it!) I'm not immune to propaganda.
A better system only follows liberal democracy, because library democracy allows for exploration of better systems. If authoritarianism takes hold, it will not allow for the exploration of better systems. We will have to fight tooth and nail just to try to get back to liberal democracy, and I suspect we could not achieve it in our lifetimes.
Harris isn't perfect. But she's a hell of a lot better than many leftists have led me to believe. Don't let perfection be the enemy of good. Don't let perfection be the enemy of harm reduction.
We can either help elect Trump and usher in authoritarian fascism, or we can help defeat him and pull things back in the direction we want to go. Not liking the choices doesn't absolve you from participating and doing the most good you can with the options available.
I'll link the original video in the replies. The original video has captions if you need them.
#kamala harris#2024 election#leftist hypocrisy#If we want better we have to put in the work over time. There are no instant solutions.#That means digging in our heels to prevent moving farther right.#Yep even if it means voting for a candidate you don't personally like or agree with.#Caring for your community means making strategic decisions to help everyone.#Voting your morals or whatever you call it is functionally useless in the presidential election bc of how our system works.#Save your moral votes for local elections - that's where you get the ball rolling. Put. In. The. Work.

A large burning canvas could be seen in the distance.
The neat fingers, full of small dents from the friction of the sword handle, caught a small flame, which immediately went out from faint pressure.
There was silence, a living silence, one of those that strains with its sound. A warm wind heated his battered, but carefully polished armor.
"You want to say something"
"I want" Blurr answered, turning sharply to the dark silhouette behind him that was quietly watching him until now. He clenched his fist with a grinding sound, where the spark died out, and demonstratively opened it towards the darkness. "And this is how you are paid for making the world freer! This is what remains of your legacy, and you react as if it doesn’t concern you at all!"
"It does not concern me anymore" the figure answered him calmly.
"Shockwave, stop!"
"Is that an order?"
"It's a request” His angry expression made it clear that this request was an obligation. “I just don't recognize you for these few months." His hand shook slightly with anger. Black smoke seeped through the cracks in his armor.
"I don't recognize myself for even longer time." Blurr visibly trembled at these words, realizing where the dialogue was leading. Shockwave slowly approached, his long, deformed fingers, three times longer than one of Blurr's fingers, carefully reached out to his hand and wrapped his palms in his huge paws, kneeling down to be on the same level with him. "Blurr, I-"
Blurr turned his head away so as not to see one piercing, but such a swampy dim light of his terrifying eye, which had become more precious to him than his weekly knightly brigandage. "Shut up. It's too early, we haven't agreed on when exactly to do this"
The dull mass of metal, which was only a tangible casing, after some hope of catching at least a spark of doubt, only lowered its head heavily. The crackling of the fire continued to be heard around. The soot reached them, gifting them with at least some warm light among the shades of cold before dying. Realization, regret, reluctance were not reflected in the knight's optics. His armor, always proudly looking into the face of danger, now reflected only the cowardly lights of the fire from behind. Despite this, he did not remove his hand from the strong lock until the blades themselves parted. Shockwave disappeared. Disappeared as he had done for the past few months.
Blurr turned back to the burning wall. From afar were heard screams, squeals, grinding, clanking. The column of fire did not subside, as if it was fed by fuel from secret reserves. It had been burning like that for hours, as if to show the greatness of this building over others that would have left only a column of smoke long ago.
Shockwave's last school of dark magic was burning out, as was the will of its creator to live.

The Green brothers are doing effective altruism better than maybe 95% of people who identify online as effective altruists.
#I know it's cringe to be into vlogbrothers in 2024 but I'm incredibly impressed by JG's swerve into fighting global health inequities#and last week's news about their commitment to funding TB prevention was really cool#also I have a lot of respect for creators who seem able to continue to build online communities focused around optimism and trying#to do good in the world in a way that seems genuine--because I've realized how much intentional effort that must take#when social media writ large seems to skew towards either reactionaries or doom and gloom#VB was formed in an era where everyone had a lot more earnest hope in the potential of the internet and (with multiple evolutions)#they've kept going through a seismic change in the way we relate to social media and the creator economy. it's interesting#also I think it's interesting JG is doing his best work 10+ years out from his peak fame. life lesson there maybe

i needed to express a sentiment in the creative stylings of @dunmeshiminimumwage
#eliot posts#dunme#delicious in dungeon#dungeon meshi#sorry to put toshiro in the roll of shitty job interviewer lmao#but he was the best fit for ''guy that wants me to read their mind''#laios being my internal monologue here#i was on my THIRD interview of the day i was Dying#tho since the prev two interviews i had were for similar positions and told me their salaries outright at least i could use that number#(though tbh my work persona is more of a kabru. my customer service voice is unparalleled)#(at my first job even my coworkers thought i was sooo cheerful til i got too comfy and casually made a joke abt wanting to asphyxiate on a#plastic shopping bag like a sea turtle. in front of my sweet elderly coworker. oops!)#(also this job was during quarantine and after weeks of working together i took my mask off in front of one coworker for the first time#and she called like half the department over from their registers to look at how pretty i was??? prettyboy powers unmatched ig)#(also my first interview today went SO well i charmed that interviewer so good despite my lack of qualifications)#(she even complimented my social skills and said i seemed like the type who could get along well and make good conversation with anyone!)#(which is important bc i was interviewing for an elder care position. also old people especially tend to think i am a Delightful Young Lad)#(unless i accidentally make a morbid joke around them ig lmaooo. or. well. some of them like those too. but not that one coworker lol)#(if only that skill transferred over to actually making friends irl. my autistic ass has so few close irl connections)#(i hope my exceedingly short list of character references does not prevent me from getting hired)#AND ALSO my first job asked the same wage question and i said twelve dollars#and they were like all our new employees start at 7.75#the union insists that we pay all new employees a whopping 50 cents above min wage. (we'd pay less if we could)#like dawg why did you ask that then??? if my answer did not matter at all???

The funny thing about playing botw and Totk is I don’t hate or scorn the Yiga at all. I actually think they’re so well within their rights to be super bitter and angry bc of what the king of Hyrule did to the Sheikah over 10k years ago. I need Kohga to know I am also anti monarchy and we should talk to Zelda about establishing a democracy or at least not giving absolute rule to the Hylian monarch. We should also let the yiga be members of society again and not continue to outcast them when they were actually again SO RIGHT to oppose the crown and refuse to be subdued and have their culture and technology destroyed
Ocarina of Time made me such a Hylian Royal Family and Royal Knights of Hyrule hater hjdgnlsdjnfjlsd
#like I love you Zelda but please abolish the monarchy immediately there’s better ways to rule than giving one person ultimate ruling power#that led to the Sheikah being used as dogs over and over in history and we should put in protections to prevent that from happening again#I think Zelda is a great leader and I’m so sure that the people of Hyrule would absolutely vote her to lead the country#but again it’s like… look at why the hylians have done to the Sheikah over and over like this shouldn’t happen again 😭#I get so worked up over this fjkdojfdwkon it’s bc I’m sheik and OOT impa’s no 1 fan#okay that’s enough ranting 💀#tloz#totk#souppe blurb#zelda souppe blurb

Lately, when I talk about someone I strongly disagree with, I think about my friends.
When I interact with someone who regularly rants about people, and tends to take things in the worst ways (without any attempts at self-reflection or grace), I feel more on-edge. I'm nervous to voice opinions. I'm always over-thinking everything I send them, worried about how they'll receive it.
On the other hand, I feel much safer during conversations where someone is speaking neutrally about those they feel at conflict with. When they feel upset about a situation, but without talking aggressively about the other person. Because I know that if we're ever in a disagreement, or have some sort of conflict or misunderstanding, they won't hurt me or suddenly hate me*.
I used to speak much more aggressively about people. My personality disorders, combined with online toxic environments, were big factors in that. I was stressed and angry constantly, and I felt justified, and I felt afraid and ashamed to respond with anything but anger. But to make a long story short, I had several big painful interpersonal experiences where I realized how my attitude was impacting my friends.
I remember the nervousness in my friends' eyes. I remember the people I've met who are much older and never grew out of that reactive communication style, and I don't want to be that person. I want my loved ones to feel safe around me.
So nowadays, I do my best to speak compassionately (or at least neutrally). Because I want to signal to my friends that I'm not going to be cruel to them, or to automatically believe the worst of them, during a conflict or misunderstanding. I try to vent about situations and my fears instead of people.
I wish I'd realized this before.
*(I discuss splitting in the tags)
#actuallynpd#actuallybpd#actuallyautistic#relationship advice#communication skills#I added the autism tag because we missed the social cues that would have alerted us of this early on#and that sure is a big thing we talk about in therapy.#Accidentally hurting people is so painful. We learned this back in 2020 and have been#practicing it ever since. We've wanted to share this with others because honestly a post like this would have prevented a lot of pain and#conflict.#And as promised; about the splitting-#This isn't a post meant to shame anyone for struggling with intense anger or distrust or splitting or any other symptom#My partner and I both have PDs. I've learned to self-regulate intense anger before venting. I've learned how to use more neutral words even#when I don't feel them. And when he splits on me he tells me he's having a BPD moment and that he needs some time alone#That's okay and healthy <3 Mental illness is tough. PTSD is tough. I often jump to the worst conclusions because I'm scared of being hurt.#I've just learned to handle it differently.#I wanted to clarify that because I don't want anyone to think they're inherently bad for having trauma reactions. My goal was to make the#type of post I needed back then when I lacked that social awareness. I had to work through a lot of guilt and shame and that was really#really hard. But it was so worth it. I'm so so glad she told me.

I wonder if the fact that Jack is always called out for smelling funny but Dave is never despite both being undead has to do with them rotting in different ways or if it's just because Jack has dogshit hygiene and Dave doesn't.
#luly talks#dsaf#dsaf jack#dsaf dave#dave miller#jack Kennedy#i love the idea of jack just being stinky tho and dave somehow being fucking Not it's so funny#like at the very least we know Dave took one (1) shower. we never saw Jack do that much 🙄#i do wonder how the resurrection *but it refused#shit works bc Jack is alive bc Fredbear hyped him and shit#but we never saw Dave dying we don't know whta he saw what he heard what he felt#he never talks about it as far as i remember only Henry does#and he just says the guy didnt want to let go#maybe having a soul stuck to you just prevents the rotting which is why davetrap is so fucking gone since Dave let go?#of course jack doesn't have blackjack so he just never stopped rotting#the jack won't bathe theory is funny but i think i fancy the later more

Lalla Ward makes a brief appearance as Lady Augusta, intended bride to an ill-fated aristocrat, in A Ghost Story for Christmas: The Ash Tree (BBC, 1975)
#fave spotting#lalla ward#doctor who#a ghost story for christmas#the ash tree#1975#romana#romana ii#spoilers for the ash tree ig????#i mean it's pretty obvious from the outset that Ed Petherbridge's aristo is not in for a good time#i mean he's a Jamesian protagonist for one thing....#lalla had been acting since the beginning of the decade‚ with a fair number of one off appearances on tv and the odd film to her name#(most notably Hammer's Vampire Circus). she was still a few years off DW and genre immortality at this point#it isn't the most rewarding role; James (who i don't think many would argue that he wasn't a bit of a chauvinist) rarely featured#significant women characters in his work (a large number of them being academical in setting didn't help). actually the ash tree#is something of an outlier in that regard‚ as it does feature a significant female character in Mrs. Mothersole‚ but we can hardly consider#her a positive feminine presence... actually one of Lawrence Gordon Clark's regrets about this particular entry in the Ghost Story for#Christmas canon is the failure of him and writer David Rudkin to make a true villain of Mothersile; Clark felt that their shared sympathies#for the historical victims of witchhunting prevented them from capturing the 'evil' of the character (tho it's debatable how much James#himself intended her to be truly evil; this is just Clark's opinion after all‚ and fwiw i think Rudkin's greater complexity of the#character is more interesting‚ more believable and more appropriate)#i rambled. anyway yes‚ not a meaty role perhaps‚ but Lalla sinks her teeth in all the same and in just a few brief scenes successfully#creates a vivid and fully realised character‚ a charming and flirtatious fiancée with something of a rebellious streak#no ash tree post bc i made one the last time i watched it a couple of years ago

I get why it frustrates people to not be able to afford things but it just. really gets me sometimes just HOW uncaring about worker's compensation so many leftist spaces have become
Like the same people who will encourage artists to price their commissions based on the amount of time it takes to make it (with respect paid to the many more hours of practice and training etc.) will turn around and complain that a TTRPG book with hundreds upon hundreds of hours of work put into it is overpriced at $40.
And as always this is the daycare problem: that the people who work at daycares and the people who most need childcare tend to come from the same demographic, and nobody has enough money.
But I just. Yes, indie art/fiction/games/whatever being expensive makes them unavailable to poor fans. But if you can't actually make money out of them, that makes working on them unavailable to poor creators, who need to spend time and effort on stuff that will help them stay alive. It's just very easy to complain about capitalism 'infiltrating hobbies' or 'only caring about profit' when you do have the comfort to pursue hobbies purely for your leisure. Or when you just completely dehumanise all creators, I guess.
#people always say 'just think of the art that could be made if people didn't need to work to survive' and that's so true!!!!!!#and also!!!! on an individual level!!!!!! if a person can make an art their 'work' that's one way of sidestepping those issues!!!!!#if we conspire to prevent people from making a living off art. that has the same result.#and obviously the people who complain about this stuff aren't the main cause of it. probably their impact is negligible tbh.#but. it's still a culture. that stifles even people who try to question it.

i think a lot of the soulless clover revival fics that make them start to kill in the very first reset does not give clover (or flowey) nearly enough credit
#there's one fic I read that had a good justification for it but the rest..... hm#clover is not going to start killing people just because they can't feel emotions as strongly as they used to now#especially if this is post true pacifist clover we are talking about#it took flowey exhausting literally every other option just for him to even start to consider the thought of killing#and even then he didn't like the idea of it. the entire buildup to it he was saying I don't like this and trying to justify it to himself#for someone like clover who so strongly believes in the good of monsterkind I think it would take them at least as long as flowey to break#if not longer#and who's to say that they would even start killing in the first place#flowey started killing because everyone around him was predictable and did the exact same things every time to the point of boredom#but clover has flowey. friendly or not friendly flowey still remembers resets and wouldn't do the exact same thing every reset#flowey's very existence would prevent clover from reaching the same level of boredom that flowey did because there's always something new#at the end of the day clover and flowey are different people that will react to the same situation differently#to make it work you can't just retread flowey's experience. you have to consider how clover would react and change the situation accordingl#that's what I think anyways. cool concept but execution falls short more often than not imo.

The thing is that the four-day work week is, fundamentally, also an education issue, not just a labor rights issue. When you look at it for longer than a string of buzzwords, you cannot miss how deeply entwined the two are. And I don't mean that in a "educate people about the benefits of working less" way.
Because the four-day work week, and other forms of decreasing labor presence and opening up free time, are designed to help our most burned-out work sectors. And yes, many of those are the "lowest skill" jobs (finger quotes featuring heavily in the previous sentence.)
But many of them are also *high* education jobs. We already have difficulty accessing medical care because there aren't enough doctors, and in particular not enough specialist doctors - you might be able to see a general practitioner within the week, but I've had multiple friends who are on waiting lists to see neurologists for six, sometimes eight months. That backlog will only get worse if we push through a four-day work week without consideration for increasing the number of neurologists we have, and the only way to do that is by increasing access to education.
And it's the same story across the board for a lot of our highest-educated - or theoretically highest-educated - professions. Public defenders are underpaid and overrun by their case loads, because law school is $200K and if you have that much in student loans you can't afford to not jump at the highest paying job you can get, and that's not going to be helping Joe Smith with his DUI from a crooked cop. Yes, fixing our justice system's issues would help decrease Amy PubDef's case load - but then there's worker's comp people, medical malpractice people... We need more lawyers who are doing the public good because the ones we have are overworked as it is.
Teachers. Social workers. Therapists. On a systemic level, these jobs are underpaid and overworked, and cutting down to a four-day work week isn't going to decrease the number of people who need them, it's just going to make them have to try and fit five days of work into four to keep up. Unless we can get more of these people into the system, a four-day work week is just shooting them in the foot.
And what is the point of having that extra day off a week, when you can't use it meaningfully to get in to take care of the things you need it for, like seeing a doctor, visiting a lawyer to make a will, going to therapy, and so on without having to schedule one, two, six months in advance?
We need education reform first, or the four-day work week is a pipe dream that will leak suffering all over the people who need it most.
#tldr with nael#but no seriously I never fucking see four day work week people talk about this and it pisses me off#and apparently I just hit a breaking point about it#we need more doctors#that is just like simple fact#and there are more people in the world who WANT to be doctors but CAN'T#because they can't afford it#or they're disabled and the current education system prevents them from doing so#it HAS to start with education
