A scenario: You and your coworker are trying to actively stop/potentially doublecross a team of adventurers looking to gain the armor of the Matron of Raven's champion. They know this, you know they know this, whatever.

Through some unfortunate events, a member of that group dies in the Matron's temple, and it looks like resurrecting her (an already incredibly difficult task but practically impossible in the temple of an actual goddess of death and fate) is failing. Then her twin brother steps out of the line of sight for about 20 seconds tops and the dead girl is miraculously no longer dead. Then you turn around, and the mythical, god-touched armor that you've been seeking, that was connected to the trap that killed the girl, has seemingly attached itself to her brother without anyone noticing or doing anything.

Do you:

A) Try to look for something else of the Matron's that could be useful?

B) Apologize, keep moving forward without incident, this time staying together.

C) Give up entirely on the armor, the circumstances surrounding the incident leading you to be wary over potentially messing with an actual God's decisions.

D) Fuck it, still want that armor, let's set a Beholder loose in an empty chamber.

For all intents, I did the hell heist as the last-last quest before the finale (So as to be fully prepared and supportive "finishing" babe's personal quest) AND BECAUSE OF THIS, I was tired. Greygold was tired. I was ready to beat the game. I was rushing. STEALING FROM RAPHAEL WAS STRESSING ME OUT. and I dared not go back. So even though Greygold did not want to go through with Haarlep's "game", I couldn't have picked a worse time to forget about their "always another way" philosophy Poor Half-orc was so determined not to fail Lae'zel's personal quest that, for once, ignored companion disapproval. And apparently, with Lae'zel not disapproving nakey Greygy, it looked like Babe was willing to retrieve that hammer no matter the cost either! Until Haarlep said they wanted nakey Greygy to play a "game" with them.

Babe disapproved that time. Babe, who's been cranky all this time, thought not even this way was worth getting the hammer for. Babe still cared about what happened to Greygold.

So by the gods, I happily reloaded and thankfully found a different way, HUAH. Thank you, Babe. Found out later that apparently going the Haarlep way would've suuuuucked. Saved by the babe. Thus I concluded why Babe was so cranky and can't kiss to save her life (I'm looking at you patch 6). And why Greygold's never had another hrm- pleasant conversation with Emps since the last time.

Poor sleep-deprived Lae'zel was bugged as hell killer coconut not because she was mad at Greyg, but because she'd been burning through all of her energy and affection by trying to protect Greygold from any further illithidry influence.

The story of Mouthwashing is so interesting because it talks about the difference between Nice and Good in how it portrays Curly.

Curly is a nice man. He jokes and talks with Anya, tells the crew about their coming unemployment way before Pony Express wants him to. Because he is so nice, the crew likes him. He is not an absolute asshole like Jimmy.

But he is not a good man, is he? He probably thinks he is, the crew thinks he is up until the crash.

But then he is also shown to be complacent. Curly knows what kind of person Jimmy was on earth. The things he "went through". Whether it be criminal activities. Or something Jimmy can use as an excuse for his behavior. So he tries to help him "fix it".

He is a very flawed person. He let the things his friend did slide because that was his friend, ignored the warning signs until the last possible moment he could possibly "fix" things. If he actually managed to divert their ship enough to not kill them and it wasn't just Jimmy messing up his murder-suicide attempt, Curly just prolonged everyone's suffering. Especially his own. It was too little too late. Jimmy was still around to make everything worse.

And now he, who was the passive bystander, is doomed to watch everything fall apart. Now he, too, has to suffer under Jimmy, no longer able to turn a blind eye. Spending most of his time around the one person he could have helped but ultimately failed.

Anya now believing his one attempt at "fixing everything" being killing them all. Him being forced to take responsibility for something Jimmy did. After all, he is the reason Jimmy is here on the ship.

It is ironic.

yall are about to piss me off by not having any PASSING basic knowledge of the way the u.s. military manipulates its recruits into joining by typing up one of your uninformed, unresearched, unempathetic, individualistic, unbelievably annoying posts about how 100% of the people in the military ended up there because they just Love America So Damn Much! they're extremely mature and informed at time of recruitment, they can totally leave anytime they want, they totally had tons of other avenues in life they could've taken, there was no rush at all to get income as fast as possible, and everyone in the military also totally is part of the combat divisions and personally enjoys being IN the military very much, big believers of violence. everyone in the military is shooting guns all day, that's how that works. they LOVE BLOODSHED. also I love the "amewicans haha" twang to this type of shit because you're actually TOTALLY stealing our Thing, which is turning systemic issues into Individual Issues. Instead of talking about the powers that be, it's so Personal Choice up in here. It's, "well you shouldn't have done it then. I totally wouldn't because I know better." you don't wanna talk about the military industrial complex as a whole, and you don't want to talk about recruiters, you just want to pin the blame on Specific Individual People one-by-one, as if they're responsible for the system that they're being ground up in. someone was in the military? bad person, no matter what. it's easier to believe that, I guess, than to acknowledge that Normal People (with high school educations) are manipulated and incentivized into joining a system that is Bad. at like age 18. but yeah no that 18 year old should have just been smarter lol haha anyway here are some screenshots for no particular reason

please don't jump me for this, mary kirby is a fantastic writer but i have a very glaring issue with lucanis' writing that really makes me cringe every time i think about it and it's the fact that he was very clearly written around the millennial tumblr joke of "running on spite and coffee" and the like and it doesn't really give him a lot more room for more character depth. a lot of veilguards comedy feels a lot like the writers in the writing room tried to predict what memes would be made and created those characters around it, instead of creating fully rounded characters and let the jokes happen naturally
