20. what are your muse’s feelings towards the culture of romance and sexuality as it pertains to their identity? (Tsubasa and Shinobu)

Tsubasa aspires to live their life according to that one post that's like "Am I a boy? Am I a girl? Who knows! But everyone finds me hot, and that makes everyone gay" and beyond that, they don't really think about it. For the most part, they don't let things like stereotypes or other people's opinion of culture stick to them. They're secure in who they are, so being hit on by a straight guy who mistakes them for a woman, or a girl balking at their interest, doesn't really affect or bother. They're generous towards people who make mistakes, and if those mistakes are repeated? Wow you must be dumb to keep getting it wrong over and over, sucks to suck!

In some sense, Tsubasa does fit in with some stereotypes - as far as lesbians go, they slot in pretty easily with the stereotype of the person with a more masculine aesthetic who is interested in people with a more feminine aesthetic, who is flirty and forward in a particular way, who takes a more leading position both romantically and sexually, etc. But even then, Tsubasa doesn't put too much stock in it - they're liable to say something like, "Yeah, that is some kind of pattern, huh? Things just work out like that, but it's not really any preference, it's just how things turn out sometimes." They're easygoing and relaxed, and they're not married to any particular role or style, and despite having a "type," they're pretty willing to go outside it if someone catches their eye or their interest.

On a personal level, they might give off a teensy bit of "player" energy, because they are very casually flirty and don't mind hooking up, and that might lead into some stereotypes that they're a bit less fond of. Truthfully, they'd like a chill, sweet relationship (or relationships - of all the muses, they'd be the most willing to consider some kind of non-monogamy if a partner was interested), though. In general, though? The cyber angel lives a vibes-based existence that prioritizes banishing personal stress and negativity whenever possible. Basically, they don't think of themselves, or their identity, as relating to any "culture of romance or sexuality", because they, Cyber Tsubasa, are entirely unique.

Meanwhile Shinobu is in ultimate super prison mega hell. The "culture of romance and sexuality" is just her life and it sucks. She's tall, athletic, "handsome," dresses in fine menswear, has an emotionally-closed-off personality, speaks in a very formal, genderless style, and is seemingly very romantically available. They have the aura of a closed-off otome game character, either the kind that will degrade and belittle you, or the kind that just needs the right person's soft words and gentle touch to completely crack open and reveal something warm and kind inside, all of which has given rise to the "Cold Prince Shinobu-kun" understanding of them as a person. That Shinobu is a woman who isn't especially glad to be spoken about in such a way is basically unknown or unimportant in the eyes of her admirers.

These admirers largely aren't the sort of people Shinobu is interested in. For the most part, they're straight women who have concocted some fantasy in their head, casting themselves as romantic leads in some video game, tv show, or manga, and have decided on Shinobu as their princely love interest. Most of them barely know Shinobu personally, because their interest is less in Shinobu Yaguchi the person and more the persona of this cold-hearted prince archetype character that they've projected onto her. In addition, because they're perceived by these girls fundamentally as a masculine archetype rather than a person, they're subjected to some behavior that isn't appropriate towards anyone, but is sometimes mistaken as 'this is acceptable to do to a man.'

The final detriment to this little fanclub is that it isolates her from other queer people, both physically (given that the honor guard closes in and pushes out people who don't belong there), and emotionally (because Shinobu feels such disdain towards her hangers-on, she takes that to mean that has no interest in or compatibility for any romance at all). Still, they're pretty permissive about the admirers, accepting their confessions and going on dates that they seldom enjoy, and generally being ground down by the experience - secretly interested in some kind of long-term relationship, but pretty bitter about the experience of looking for it.

Sweet like candy, yet warm like a thousand kitten cuddles. This is the perfume Rihanna wears, and honestly, while I wasn't a fan of it on me, I do love the scent!

Perfume: Replica's By the Fireplace

Notes: clove oil, chestnut accord, vanilla accord Literally smells like a crackling fireplace and marshmallow. I'm so in love with this fragrance, it's on my rotation in the fall (I have a leather jacket collection so mixing this on them in the cold is MAGIC). Of course I see our flame boy smelling like a literal cozy fireplace and GOD I could bury my nose between his tiddies forever.

SHINOBU KOCHO

Perfume: NEST New York's Wisteria Bleu ♔ Glossier You

I know the Wisteria perfume is a bit on the nose, but given our girl's development of the wisteria poison, it just seemed to fit! Plus this scent is just delightful. Key notes: French wisteria, watery notes, Bulgarian rose, imperial jasmine

That said, I can also see Shinobu as the type to gravitate towards skin scents -- especially as a doctor, she doesn't want to overwhelm anyone's senses, so she prefers scents that are more natural. So I also think she'd be a fan of Glossier You

We actually know what Sanemi smells like canonically -- matcha tea and ohagi!

I also see Giyuu having something with ginger as a major note — so that said, Chanel’s Bleu de Chanel

MUICHIRO TOKITO

Baby is 14. He does not know fine scents/perfumes that well.

That said, I think he’s going for something lowkey and likely no-fuss (if he wears a scent at all). He’s going to smell like soap and something fresh and clean.

First off, I absolutely love the Hashira surplus AU. I see lots of somebody lived/everyone survived AUs since I have an Ao3 addiction, but none really go in the direction you’ve chosen. I think the idea of twin pillars is nice to think about, but unless they work best together and are messes without their other half it wouldn’t really make sense to just count them as one if they’re perfectly fine independently. Kind of like how Daki and Gyuutaro work in canon, I suppose. So if Sabito lived, he would undoubtedly become the Water Hashira first and end up leaving Giyuu at Kinoe despite him eventually catching up in strength and qualifications. Same with Shinobu, if Kanae survived then she wouldn’t have room to become a Hashira with the 9 max rule. All in all, I really like what you’ve done with it and how you’ve built off canon. I don’t have any direct questions, but definitely wouldn’t mind to read about anything you haven’t got a chance to share or small details you havent been able to fit anywhere! I'm glad that you think this take on everyone lives makes sense! I tried to change 1 thing at the start and have the ripple effect come across naturally.

In terms of things to share, thank you so much for asking! This au is my baby so I'm thrilled to yap haha. I have a lot of projects I'm passionate about, so the actual drawings will come out very slowly, though I will answer asks and plot questions as they come. I'm currently working on the comic where Kanae meets Nezuko, so have a sneaky WIP page :P

The recent arc has also got me thinking about how the infinity castle arc changes.

MANGA SPOILERS FROM HERE!

I've decided to commit to saving everyone, as the core principle of this au, so the upper moon fights are going to go down differently. At the moment, I haven't fully decided, but my initial idea is this:

Instead of Giyuu, Sabito joins Tanjiro in fighting UM3. In canon, Giyuu acts as a parallel to Rengoku, with themes about weakness/strength and duty (who 'should' live). In this AU, Giyuu doesn't have the same survivor's guilt, and Rengoku doesn't die. As a result, it isn't thematically important for Giyuu to go up against Akaza. However, Sabito was present in the mugen train arc, and he narrowly survived the encounter. I think it makes sense for him to go up against Akaza with Tanjiro (who was stuck as a witness last time) and get to see how they've both grown - Tanjiro getting stronger and Sabito getting smarter. Maybe he learns Giyuu's defensive form?

Since Giyuu is free, I think he'd join in the UM1 fight. Having a defensive fighter could influence the battle. I have to be honest, I haven't reread this arc in a minute (so it is fresh when I watch the movie) so I can't quite remember how the fight goes down, but I think Giyuu would be there from the start. They just manage to keep themselves together as more allies join and overwhelm UM1.

I haven't used Rengoku here - I haven't decided his status after the mugen train arc. He lives, but I don't know if he is fit for battle. He may join Uzui and his father in protecting Nezuko. Perhaps he rallies the kakushi and the medical team with his large presence and still well above average physical abilities.

UM2 is a bit more complicated. Shinobu's drive for revenge is a key part of her character, but in this AU, Kanae survives. This is another thing not set in stone and may change. At the moment, I think in this AU, Douma has a habit of eating his victims alive. He taunted Kanae, managing to bite off her ear, so while Kanae manages to survive, she is truly affected by this fight. Shinobu despises him like in canon. In terms of the UM2 infinity castle fight, I'm not sure how to administer Shinobu's poison. It could be that Douma eats an arm or leg, but Kanae arrives in time to help. I'm also currently thinking that Aoi* might join Kanao.

*I haven't committed to her role yet (in addition to knowing basic medicine). She could be a poisons using demon slayer (like Shinobu) or someone who blended the role of demon slayer and kakushi - this is worth its own post though.

All of the speculation around the inifnity castle is just a draft, though! I would absolutely love to hear any suggestions/ ideas, so please feel free to reply/ reblog/ send an ask :D

Amari's Taisho Era Secrets:

(aka Fun Facts) I will add more as I think of them 🩶

1. She originally had a blue jay named Nobue when she first joined the Corps. She asked for a crow instead to fit in (and named him Gakuto because he enjoys studying with her 😊).

2. Her body scars and her white pupils (Leukocoria) are from the day her home exploded. She also has an intense fear of fire, which is why it takes her so long to meet Rengoku.

3. It was a surprise to the other Pillars to see how well her and Sanemi got along. Truth is, after their initial meeting, they avoided each other. Until Amari found him in private, crying his eyes out. That's when they had a very long talk and learned that they're both still as human as each other. They 'protect' each other now (emotionally).

4. The reason why she has so many creative hobbies involving her hands, is because she would pick at her fingers and hands until they bled if she didn't. Her favorite pastime is braiding (bracelets at first and then Muis hair).

5. She has memory issues like Muichiro, but they're not as severe as complete amnesia. She gets more of a 'deja vu' type feeling with vague and blurry images every now and then. If she can't figure out what it means, she disregards it. She doesn't tell anyone either unless they're able to guess.

6. She enjoys gift giving 💝. She'll likely give the same things over and over again (see above lol) but she'll start with giving someone a bracelet before it turns into something they enjoy!

7. She originally had gotten a 'Mitsuri' style uniform from the Corps as well, but she just altered it until she met Shinobu. After that, Shinobu helped her get a uniform like Kanaos (crediting @shycroissanti with this bc I didnt think of it until I saw their art this morning 🥰)

8. Gyomei was her first choice for Tsuguko training because she wanted to abandon suffocation altogether. She thought it was holding her back and making missions take too long. Master Kagaya actually convinced her AND Muichiro (when they spoke with him separately) by saying that they may 'find a surprising value in one another.'

9. She has a secret friend who runs a wisteria house 🫢 (future OC).

10. Her strength compared to the other Pillars? She's in between Iguro and Mui. For speed? She's actually closer to Rengoku!

Himejima Gyomei:

Although it's quite unusual for him to listen to songs and all he has a favourite one.

I know you are probably thinking that this song doesn't quite fit with his vibe and all but you all are obviously wrong.

I believe it's a song near to his 'vibe'. I can imagine Gyomei listening to it one repeat (it's also kinda old fashioned and all).

Uzui Tengen:

For some very obvious reasons, this song is all his.

Although, Suma was the one that firstly 'introduced' him to the song and he LOVED IT, he quickly became attached to music apps.

He was also the one who introduced music and Spotify to Rengoku as well as they made their own playlists together.

Rengoku Kyojyro:

As I said before, Tengen introduced him to Spotify and music and he basically made him listen to that song. Of course Kyo LOVED it from the beginning.

After his missions he gets back home and shows to his little brother all the songs he likes. They also listen them together.

After Kyojyro's death his brother was sitting all alone, listening to his favourite songs wishing his big brother was with him.

Iguro Obanai:

Yeah he listens that song because it reminds him of Kanroji. He is crazy in love with her and everyone can see it—expect Mitsuri—.

I can also imagine him listening 'Les' by Childish Gambino. In general, he can listen to all love songs about a guy who loves a woman but can't have her because he's a mess and all.

Although he grew up being afraid of women, she was the exception. He wants her to know that. For him, she is different.

Mitsuri Kanroji:

I know it may not match her cute vibe and aura but I can literally imagine her going crazy over TV girl.

She maybe listens to a lot of love songs and all but I wanted to put something different that she may actually listen other than basic love songs.

Kocho Shinobu:

She relates to the lyrics way too much. All her life she tried to stay perfect and conscious. She was just a little girl when she lost everything.

Her parents, her sister, her happiness. Everything that kept her alive just disappeared.

The song symbolises her life. She lost everything in a blink of an eye and after all of that trauma she 'came back to life' as a whole different persona.

Shinazugawa Sanemi:

—Everything I ever wanted

He killed his own mother in order to protect his younger siblings. If he had a chance to go back in time and examine the whole situation, maybe he and Genya could be dead.

He blames himself for everything that happened that day and he wishes to change everything.

That song helps him keep going, trying for a better future as well as it makes him remember all the good memories he had with his siblings back then.

Tomioka Giyuu:

—The night we met

One word. Sabito. Yep, this song was for him. His one and only favourite childhood friend.

As a child, Giyuu was really introvert and always scared. His backstory, his parent's and sister's death led him to be that way. He lost his sparkly gaze, his innocence.

For the first time he met Sabito, he felt relieved—as if they were meant, as if they were destined to meet—. Losing him too, destroyed him even more.

Muichiro Tokito:

—New person

As the youngest hashira, he had experienced trauma in a variety of types—both psychological and physical—.

After his twin brother's death, he changed as a person. He lost himself and he couldn't remember even the slightest thing about his past. For him, that song 'wakes up' an known feeling inside him.

Listening to music all by himself on his mansion calms him down, making him forget all the pain and stress he's been through.

the ranpo cosplay 🔥🗣💯🙏🏽 (lots of writing ahead lol)

bro i was meant to meet at my friends house so we and another friend could all leave together but i thought i was running late so my only mirror pic of my full outfit was blurry. so, i put some emoji over my face, behold top part of my outfit. i didn't wear the regular pants, so i wore white knitted tights with a black skirt.

also, i did wear a wig, but since i accidentally ripped couldn't fit my hair in it, i ended up just having my hair open under it. and later when my friends showed me their wig caps, i realised i didn't actually have one and it was the thing that covered my wig when it came 💀. anyways that doesn't matter... 👍

A/N... this is modern au!

i feel like thoma would actually have a really messy room, despite being the best cleaner known to man. with him being so busy polishing the floors of the kamisato mansion until they practically shine - not to mention the countless chores and errands he runs - it's almost impossible for him to catch his breath, leaving him absolutely exhausted by the time he throws himself onto his bed. it's almost ironic how he has cleaning supplies neatly lined up on his dressing cabinet collecting dust.

furthermore, a problem arises. thoma isn't the type to be able to say "no", therefore i think he'd probably end up with people coming over to his apartment. his more-than-messy bedroom, along with almost every other area of the apartment, means he and his visitor(s) are confined to the kitchen and living room, which - unfortunately - are not separated.

however, it could also be the complete opposite. with thoma having speedily completed all of the "assignments" set for him that day, he may find himself roaming the streets with nothing to do. after running around the city day after day, nothing seems new to him anymore, causing him to resort to cleaning his apartment searching for some form of entertainment.

now, obviously, tighnari would have a lot of plants throughout his house, whether they're sat in pots upon the windowsill, or hanging precariously from the ceiling by a few strings. however, despite the countless amounts of greenery, his small home is perfectly clean; not a fallen leaf in sight. a stray petal spotted by him has no chance of survival, and would immediately be thrown into the composter along with any other scraps he finds.

he would also have a large garden surrounding his cottage-like house, with an abundance of greenery including trees, countless breeds of flowers, and even his own little veggie patch that he uses to grow not only vegetables, but herbs too.

towards the back would be a greenhouse, full to the brim of exotic and rare plant breeds which he often buys abroad. he keeps them there to study them, refusing to use the internet for information and relying purely on his own knowledge and the countless books he has in his basement-library. the amount of books he owns is so great, he would have to stack them besides the "library" door, leaving his home looking quite messy, but he doesn't seem to mind; he's a strong believer in "organised mess".

i don't know if this is slightly random or strange, but in my mind, i think venti would make an excellent weather broadcaster; he has a strong passion with the wind, as well as a somewhat special connection, and so i think it's actually quite fitting.

in his room would be covered in charts, showing different areas of the world and little diagrams along with them of weather tendencies, levels of rainfail, and more; it wouldn't be much of a surprise to see multiple globes in his home either. despite not actually providing the information, venti wooul still enjoy studying the topics he speaks about, explaining the stacks of factual documents on his desk, facing the window of course so he can gaze out of the window and observe the beauty of mother nature's sky whenever he pleases.

in the far corner of his room, the spot in which the sun shines in the late afternoon, is a stool, his lyre sitting atop it. though it is an uncommon instrument to play, venti is more than just passionate about it's beautiful melodies, the way the strings vibrate to the perfect pitch every time, blessing the ears of those who walked by his window.

even in the real world, diluc still has a passion for the art of brewery, this hobby being so apparent that he would have his own "bar" in the basement of his home. he would have loved to take his love for brewery even further and turn it into his job, but in order to help provide for his family, including his partner, 2 children, and 3 cats, he needed a better paying job than a barista, and so ended up with an office job. as boring as it may be, he truly believes it's worth it.

his family's home would be of an average size, small enough to be homely, large enough to be comfortable. the kids would have their own rooms, though they wouldn't be massive. he and his partner would share a bedroom, as well as a bed, which would always be kept tidy by his obsessive nature for cleanliness and organisation, though a little clutter won't bother him.

i think it would be quite a basic home, what you'd expect for a modern day family, though there would be little relics spotted around the house, usually framed or kept in protective glass cases, that he'd taken an interest in over the years.

itto would 100% be a drummer. don't even ask me why, he just is. he would have quite a worn drumkit in the corner of his bedroom, which somehow withstands his passionate beatings for hours on end (put your dirty mind away); proving him to be not only a professional drummer, but also a professional upstairs neighbour, or just neighbour in general. practically all the apartment building can feel the vibrations of his rhythmic drumming, none of the inhabitants necessarily enjoying his musical outbursts.

his love for beetles still carries through to the real world, as well as his passion for the strength of geo. these likes of his are represented throughout his apartment, with beetles molded from stone scattered as decorations; the sizes, colours, and shapes ranging massively. he often volunteers at the local scouts club during the summer to take the children into the forest and (attempt to) catch bugs together.

shinobu, arguably his closest friend, shares the apartment with him, as well as the interest in music. her room is on the other side of the apartment, containing a wall dedicated to guitars (electric and acoustic) and basses. it isn't rare for the two of them to have recording sessions together; they are in a band together, after all.

This took like 5 fucking hours but I am so happy. Y'all ain't getting a katana reveal, I'm too lazy and couldn't be bothered to lmao.

Buuuttt, I am going to tell you stuff about her, since I won't shut up about KnY for a while.

Name: Hannei Datai

Her first name, Hannei (反映) means reflection while his last name, Datai (堕胎) means abortion.

(It should be noted that I am not Japanese, barely knowledgeable about the language and this may be inaccurate. I tried my best to find if it's actually the meaning or not, so if it's wrong, I apologize.)

Hashira. To be more specific, the Mirror Hashira. They were a tsuguko for almost all of the Hashira for a short time, but he stayed with Obanai Iguro the longest.

Breathing Style: Breath of Reflection/Mirror Breathing

The name of this breathing style is pretty self explanatory. It focuses on mimicking other breathing styles and only has one form (but Hannei is currently making a 2nd form, shhh.) Hannei couldn't perfect any breathing style, only able to master one form of each. So she decided to compile them and make small changes to better fit her fighting style. Even after mastering one form, it still doesn't quite match up with the real deal. Hannei would either lack the strength, the speed, flexibility, etc.

Single. And forever will be lol (Aroace go brr)

Weapons:

Of course, the nichirin sword. It's a baby blue color and isn't very different from any other sword.

Kunais. Hannei gets them from Tengen mostly and asks Shinobu to coat them in a thin layer of wisteria posion.

Personality:

They're closed off and often keep to themselves. She's more open with people she's comfortable with, which is the majority of the Hashira and the Ubayashiki family. He's a bit of a people pleaser, depending on who he's with, it can vary. But that doesn't mean their principles and morals change, just the way they act.

Negative aspects of them is that they have little to almost no self-preservation, being indecisive over the smallest of things, often not thinking about having or even forming an opinion of their own. She thinks she isn't needed and isn't worthy of being a Hashira, since she mostly just copies a form from each style. He takes a while to decide things on his own when it comes to small things (food, clothing, children bickering over something, etc.). They got used to just following someone else's lead and/or someone ordering them around that it's difficult to voice certain things out.

Positive aspects of them though is their neutrality, understanding, and patience. Often overshadowed by her need to please the people around her, she's actually pretty neutral about a majority of things! She found it taboo that Tanjirou was traveling with a demon, but the fact that it was his sister made her a bit sad and thought about the pain and confusion he must've had going through his head. (She only voted to kill Nezuko because everyone else did lol). Patience and understanding is her specialty, since that's what it took for her to at least master one form from each breathing style she's seen. She took the time to understand other people's point of views before forming any sort of opinion on them. That task alone could take a long time as well, hence the patience.

But fuck around too much and you'll see why he stayed with Obanai the longest lmao.

Backstory:

Hannei was the result of adultery. She only inherited her appearance from the man her mother cheated on her father with. The almost pitch black eyes unnerved them. The couple had a reputation for being the most perfect couple in the small town, so this was an issue. They never let her go out into the town during the day, but they did let her during the night. During the day, they'd desperately just try to keep them busy inside the house, ordering them around the house, teaching them how to act a certain way, etc.

Hannei was told to be quiet. To never speak. To always avoid people. So he did, being unusually quiet on his feet, sneaking from left to right while observing the remaining people that roamed the streets. One day, they saw a demon attacking someone. They did nothing. Just watched.

It was almost like a cycle, the same demon, different victim, same ending. She has tried to bring this up with her parents, only to be met with panicked shushes, telling her to be quiet while trying to hide their disdain towards her.

Until it was finally their turn, when Hannei was 14. What did they do? Sold Hannei off to the demon so save their own skins. Hannei loved them with their whole heart, yet they didn't want to return that, only seeing them as a manifestation of a mistake that they made. She wanted to hate them so badly, but she couldn't find it in her heart to do so for some reason, instead blaming the demon and it's entire kind. He tried to put up a fight, only being able to slice the demon with glass shards. It was futile.

But he was saved by the Serpent Hashira. Before he could leave, Hannei expressed that they wanted to do the same thing. Slay demons. End the suffering of many. He agreed and brought him back to the demon slayer corps. Obanai didn't train him just yet though, he let Hannei choose. Hannei started off from Water Breathing, then to Fire, Stone, all the way until they circled back to Obanai. (Hannei apologized so much to Obanai and all the others who trained him for not being able to do their styles)

It took a few years, but Hannei was finally a Hashira. She's the most recent, maybe raised to that rank after Tanjiro passed the final selection. (I am bad with time lol)

Extras:

Their favorite food is tonkatsu (I fucking love tonkatsu)

The mask they wear is meant to mock demons. She only wears it on the job.

He found out about Obanai's dislike towards women, so in an attempt to make him more comfortable, he decided to keep his appearance more androgynous.

The moment she got her 'official' uniform, she buried it somewhere and lied, saying she lost it, asking for a different design.

They really like turtles.

He tries no to keep eye contact with people for too long. He knows it's rude but has been told many times by people (ahem, the parents) that his eyes are unsettling.

She has some strong eyesight... When it comes to things farther away. Extremely farsighted.

They like making silly impressions of the other Hashiras to Nezuko whenever they're bored.

Loves staying out in the sun since he was only allowed to be out at night.

I'm weird and bored so. What do the Hashira smell like?

Giyuu Tomioka

So I think Giyuu would always smell like mint and chlorine. I did get that from somebody else and I think it fits him. I don't know why. He probably never even uses breath mints, he probably uses those mint squares. The weird paper things.

Shinobu Kocho

Dove. Just straight up smells like a dove soap bar. She just gives off that fresh scent of a freshly cleaned bathroom. Either that or morning dew. Probably because the morning dew from the grass seeps into her shoes way to often...

Gyomei Himejima

Wet rocks. Just straight river stone. He gives off the smell of nature. Like sniff him and you can smell a Bob Ross painting. It's oddly soothing... Like skipping stones..

Sanemi Shinazugawa

Sapwood. A fresh fruit smell. Something tropical and soothing. like fruit punch. Something fresh that makes you want to go on summer vacation when it's the middle of the winter. It most likely comes from his hair. He doesn't wash his hair with shampoo and instead makes his own conditioner ( probably like how Inosuke does ) He most likely mashes up some bananas and mixes it with honey and milk. His hair gets frizzy and dry easily so this treats it really well. Mmmm. Bananas.

Tengen Uzui

Citrus. Like lemon. His smell probably stings. He most likely uses lemon juice to fight wrinkles and signs of ageing. He then dulls it down with something more water based. Probably including coconut to help keep his skin moisturized. At this point he smells like a salon.. (It tingles the other Hashira's nose hairs..)

Obanai Iguro

He probably smells like cloth or laundry detergent and cologne. The cloth nd laundry detergent come from his clothes since his haori is much bigger then he actually is. And the Cologne. I bet he just wears it or something like it so he can mask the fact that he has a snake crawling on him all the time and that never leaves his shoulder. Kabumaru probably shed on him before.. or worse...

Mitsuri Kanroji

Sweet honey. She smells like sugar, like a bakery. Fresh bread and berries, a calming and nice scent. Cookies and milk. She just smells like food. Like those cinnamon shampoos people use. Her scent probably changes season to season since she would most likely make her products seasonal. (The candy cane scent is Obanai's favorite)

Rengoku Kyojuro

He smells like cats. Like the great outdoors. He gives off a man musk that isn't to strong but is easily noticeable as well. His hands always smell like pennies though. An iron smell. He also gives off the smell of a side walk. I don't know what that is meant to smell like but he just does.

Muichiro Tokito

Grass. He smells like grass. That's it. Just straight grass.

TONYAH OCS TIME

let's start with my sonas

why do i have two? well... first one, tuna, was made literally just when i jumped into splatoon fr(before that i just liked comics about squid sisters i saw on my tl haha). they reflect me a lot more: a depressed mentally unstable bitch with nothing to do but hang out with friends. in the version of splatoon universe where they exist, they and their bestie formed their own 'squidbeak splatoon' parody (neo new squidbeak splatoon as we call it) and ended up doing basically what agents do in splatoon - war crimes /hj (im not willing to describe the entirety of splatoon story for this post im sorry). they're basically an agent 3 replacement, i think i lean into being a leader in my friend groups a lot too. they also write music, just like me!

second one, neon, is a little different. it's like they just take aspects of me from a different kinds of episodes. they are meant to be new agent 3's replacement(so they're canonically just splatoon 3's protagonist) BUT they don't have a smallfry buddy, because their buddy is my favourite salmonid - flipper flopper. they reflect the nicer part of me, they're also selectively mute because at the time i struggled a lot more with speaking and it was way easier for me to say something with gestures than to actually open my mouth without having words stuck in my throat haha. they are also an inktoling, a genetical fusion of an inkling and an octoling because i think both fit me well!! and tbh i would assign my mom octoling and my dad inkling they have such hardcore coding it's insane.

oshizushi and iwashi were probably my first actually thought out splatoon ocs.

in splatoon world creativity is a very(an i mean very) big thing, self-expression too. and oshizushi is another music person. while iwashi is a chaotic designer with her own brand going. oshi is also from the domes, it's just. a fact.

kaigara and hitodeko! so, in my splatoon ocs' geography there's a new town - Kelpton. it's a beach city with very unstable weather, and because of this they have turf war stages adapted for any weather. because idk if you know that but inklings and octolings dissolve in water, they fucking DIE in water. those two are Kelpton's idols! and of course they also have to do weather forecast since it's such a big thing for Kelpton. kaigara comes from a poor family from this town and worked hard to get money, and hitodeko is a daughter of an octarian elite soldier, she enjoys life to its fullest after leaving the domes.

then there's team family!

they're a bunch of dumb teenagers who play turf war in team. they're meant to be more coroika(splatoon manga) inspired . purble and vintage are like toxic older siblings to bucket and stripes who are innocent babies of their team. (none of them are actually related AND in their family dynamic purble is mom-assigned to all of them lmao). also bubbles the salmonid daughter of stripes! she yoinked a golden egg from vintage(he steals from grizzco, this boy is trouble) and raised salmonid as her daughter with help of ... oshizushi! and a bit of iwashi's help there.

music is big in splatoon. all of splatoon music has lore, we have so-called splatbands - every track has an in-game band behind it. and so i had to make my own splatband.

the celestigals!! an all-girls-with-the-small-exception-of-gui band!! they write songs about how shit love is!!!! that's my genre KJSFDBHFKLJKFDJSN

sepia is a cuttlefish, elysia is a sea slug (you've seen this one before.), shinobu is a sea anemone, gui is an incognito gobi and ori is a tiger crab i think. sepia is like their leader and a vocalist, she's the most unbearable person ever but they vibe with her.

sepia also lives wth namihiko, her ex boyfriend who's...an octoling who thinks he's an inkling. he doesn't have anything going in his life except for that little confusion except for the fact that he's very chill and can take sepia's anger issues and wild temper pretty well.

this is reena(she/he/they)! they're an insanely talented inkling who can play a lot of different instruments and they usually work for others. he helped kaigara and hitodeko in fact!

BRANDA. she doesn't have TOO MUCH lore going on, but she was a technician in octarian military, then she ended up in kamabo co and was one of the sanitizing octolings based on a concept from haikara walker(an octo expansion artbook), and then somehow ended up FUZZY OOZED. AND NOW SHE'S A FUZZY OCTOLING. BRO DOESN'T HAVE NO MEMORY BUT PURE VIBES AT THIS POINT. i love branda.

here's also DJ duali38 or duali! she exists purely in one au where on winter holidays sanitized octolings just suddenly can't obey tartar and CHILL and CELEBRATE. she became a DJ after ahato/acht left and she's just a small goober..

another oc who's kinda from au is arctic (octoling on the right)! she's neo agent 3's girlfriend who studies linguistics and has a dictionary with a lot of attempts to decipher human language(s). in this version of splatoon 3 they both are agents and work together and all. i can't not point out how there was a fun period where i did an experimental ask thing for another au of mine and someone mentioned arctic and i blew up i actually don't think i'll ever recover from how cool that was

polpopic never had too much lore but she's a pro salmonrunner who's also almost just as tall as her main weapon sloshing machine and the fact that she's that efficient with it despite her size is terrifying to everyone around

also kurakka exists. i never gave them lore but they're a sanitized octoling who looks like they could be a manager who doesn't give a fuck. i wish there was a way to write their lore that way. (they just don't fit splatoon lore. but i mean.)

Chihayafuru Thoughts - Random Moments

The return of my Chihayafuru thoughts! This time I’m gonna focus on a couple random scenes that either stuck out to me in some way or that I don't really have another post or larger topic to fit them into. This may become a series for me to talk about moments I enjoy but I don't really have a larger narrative through line to talk about in regards to them. There will be light spoilers for essentially the whole series so here's your warning.

This scene has always fascinated and lowkey amused me. This comes right after the chapter where Taichi wouldn't allow Chihaya to go to his room and when he ate the cake off her spoon, and for Chihaya to notice that he's acting strange is interesting to me. I say this mostly because it's so early on and yet she just kind of forgets or gets used to it because she doesn't ever really mention it again. Technically Taichi still had a girlfriend at this point and I don't think he'd fully figured out his feelings either, but the fact that she seemed to be noticing and then later was completely blindsided by his feelings has always made this moment stay in my mind. It's also fascinating because so many others noticed his feelings too; Kana, Sumire, Harada, Tsuboguchi, Desktomu (he wasn't surprised Taichi liked Chihaya, only that he was turned down), hell even Chitose called it out and she was hardly ever around them.

//Also as a sidenote, while I love many of the different art styles and the evolution of the manga's art, something about the art early on hits different.//

I know this chapter and Chihaya's "answer" ruffled some feathers, especially when the author seemed to say Arata was soft-rejected here (some people seem to think of that as "damage control", but with this among some other things she's said, I think it's worth noting when an author who writes so many things in interpretable or relatively vague ways actually comes right out and clarifies what she meant). My reading of this scene (even before knowing what Suetsugu said) was that Arata was indeed soft-rejected, and that him saying "I'll work on getting closer to you" is an acknowledgement of the fact that outside of karuta, he and Chihaya don't have all that much of a bond. I think this is interesting since I can't think of many instances where he did truly work on that, but I always thought that he was becoming more aware of the fact that he and Chihaya weren't as close as he probably wanted them to be. I've seen the blushing get brought up as a defense of her "not actually rejecting" him but I think in general, they're both awkward and talking about love and his romantic feelings which can be a bit embarrassing and awkward. The most important thing here for me was that Chihaya herself never really gave an indication that she was telling him to wait or that she'd have more to say at a later time. She said how she was feeling in that moment; doesn't mean it'd never change, but to me she very clearly didn't reciprocate his feelings in this chapter despite having every chance to say it if she had.

I think, on a whole, Shinobu is one of the most fascinating characters in the series. Seeing how isolated she is and how much the game means to her, and seeing how dejected and outright frustrated she gets that she can't make a career out of it is one of my favorite parts of her arc. This line about creating a profession being the reason she's using social media (rather than reaching some level of celebrity) has always stood out to me. She realizes that she can't make money from the one thing she has the most interest and passion in, and resolves herself to carve a place out for herself instead of accepting that no such place exists. I've also always found her relationship with her mother interesting as Shinobu very clearly sees certain things in her mother that she doesn't want for herself (there's a line about being a leech off her grandmother that particularly drives this home). And similarly her mother is clumsy in communicating with Shinobu and is at times almost vicariously living through her and her accomplishments in karuta, yet here we get a moment of her mother starting to see her in another light. After this is when we start seeing her mom try a little harder to support and watch over her because she sees her daughter fighting for her future in a way that she seemingly stopped doing (if she ever did). Shinobu on a whole is quite independent at the start of the series, in part due to her isolation, but I loved watching her gradually gain more people around her and how she opened up.

This is a small moment but one that I really like. Taichi and Chihaya seem to have mostly gotten past the awkwardness of some of their previous post-Taichi confession interactions and seem comfortable again. But then when Taichi mentions the fact that Chihaya covered for Hanano when they took a picture at the queen match, we get a panel where she just stares at him. I've always seen this as a moment where it's reiterated to Chihaya how well Taichi knows her and how easily he reads her. In a way it seems like she feels she can't hide things from him, which makes sense as this is right before she confesses her feelings. It almost feels reminiscent of the "he's the guy who's always been working hard with me" line and the "Taichi's always been by my side" line. She's entirely focused on him.

Though she's by no means a super prominent character in the series, I really like Miyauchi-sensei. From going to a teacher who thought of Chihaya as only being an eccentric girl to seeing how much passion and effort the karuta club was putting into practicing and playing. There are a lot of small but great moments with her throughout. Making the team tasukis and later headbands, supporting the students even at tournaments unrelated to the school (Yoshino and the Queen match come to mind); she really ended up attached to and inspired by these kids. That's why I picked these panels to talk about her. It's a full circle moment where she thinks about the end of the first generation of the karuta club, and the fact that she's emotional is proof that this club has become something special to her as well something she will likely protect in the future.

Another relatively brief moment but one that I think encapsulates one of my favorite themes in the series: youth. This moment where Tsuboguchi talks about youth describes a lot of the commentary the series makes on the topic. We see primarily high schoolers but also characters like Harada, Inokuma, Sakurazawa, Tsuboguchi himself, Sakura, etc. all be examples of players who continue playing despite varying life circumstances. We see people carry passion way further into life than just during their high school years and I feel as though that's an important thing communicated in the series, especially given how karuta and its tournaments work. Having something you're passionate about and continuing down that path or finding new ways to reach people with a similar interest is a beautiful thing. It's reiterated throughout the series how important the time they have in high school is because life will get more complicated when they graduate, but this panel of Tsuboguchi talking to his team and telling them that he enjoys the game even more now is a great reminder that life doesn't end with graduating high school. As someone who was already out of high school when I read this series for the first time, I really enjoyed moments like this that remind younger people to value time in high school while not letting it be their peak (though in some physical aspects like Chihaya's hearing, it might be the peak lol).

This one is based almost solely on Taichi's line "sorry for standing in your way". I've always been intrigued by the author's choice of using this line because it comes across as somewhat more negative and direct than I expected when reading this part. I know sometimes this is the result of fan translation (still unbelievably grateful for the work they put in to help make things accessible though!), but for sake of analyzing this, I'll refer to this translation. To me, Taichi says this probably for a couple reasons. One of which is that it's the end of the match where Arata truly saw him as a proper rival for the first time, and just as Arata could tell that Taichi "loathed him", Taichi could also tell that Arata viewed him as a nuisance. I think this just kind of slipped out after Taichi lost which makes sense because no one is happy to lose to their closest rival. I think another reason that he specifically uses "standing in your way" is because as we essentially know (but it's confirmed later), Taichi feels left behind after watching Arata and Chihaya announce their goals to be Meijin and Queen as kids. They both have been chasing that dream the whole time whereas Taichi has been unsure of himself. He probably doesn't think he is as "deserving" of facing the Meijin because that hasn't been his goal the entire time and he knows that's always been Arata's goal. Either way, even if it was said only out of bitterness, Taichi and Arata hug it out afterwards and Taichi is able to encourage Arata to win. Just always been an interesting choice of dialogue to me.

One of the best parts of Arata's arc for me is when he finally realizes that as much as he loves his late grandpa and his karuta, there is a certain pressure that comes from following a prominent player. Realizing that he's been hypocritical about playing your "own" karuta and that he's tried to avoid nervousness for important matches by leaning on his grandpa's style are truly great moments for him. I also love how this is explicitly communicated by his dad, who turned away from the game because his father was so extraordinary at it. Watching Arata use things that he learned from practicing with his grandpa as well as playing in a way that suits him is genuine growth. He's taking the time they spent together and using it as a push to help him continue down the road to become Meijin himself. I also really like the support that he feels from Chihaya and Taichi in these moments as well; a nice reminder of some of the other people most instrumental in who he is in the present. The moment when Taichi walks in and Arata realizes that he "crushed his dream" is a nice way of showing Arata getting out of his head and just playing in a way that feels the most natural to him. He realizes that to get to where he was, other people have had dreams trampled and that this was a match he shouldn't waste by getting mentally blocked. At the end, when he describes playing Suou as being similar to playing his grandpa, it's nice to see him acknowledging that in order to be himself, he had to feel as though he'd surpassed his grandpa in some way. Reminds me of the times throughout the series where students are afraid of playing their teachers because of the fear of "acting like a student" rather than a rival. Arata came a long way as a player and the Meijin matches provided a lot of good insight into a character who was so confident most of the time.

This was something that's been in my drafts for a bit as a space to put some ideas down for another Chihayafuru post, but I didn't really feel the need to make long posts about each so I just kind of put them all together. Thanks for reading if you made it this far!

Did Sanji ever find out that Kiku was trans? :o I remember dreading it every week while reading Wano that there would be a scene where he finds out and he would be REALLY weird about it but thank god it never came, I love how Oda handled her character and Sanji! tbh it always felt kind of... ooc for Sanji to be so hateful towards the okamas??? Like especially the gag on FMI where he's terrified when he finds out okamas are the ones donating their blood and I was like bro fr 😬 he's supposed to be kind almost to a fault so to make him have weird scenes where he's just a complete asshole, like towards the okamas, his reactions to Kokoro and Shinobu, like how DARE women be old and not fit his beauty standards (they're too good for him anyway), he still treats them well in the end but man, and especially the scene in Punk Hazard where he was ready to just leave the kids and was like "we can't save everybody" and I was just like ???? WHO is this idk sometimes his character really contradicts itself, I know some of these are supposed to be gags and not taken seriously but ugghhhh

I'll be real anon the notion of "but did he KNOW?" when referring to someone being transgender or not is kind of something uhhh not great? Like it would speak more on Oda's part for there to be a scene where someone goes "Did you know THIS WOMAN was born a MAN" in that weird, negative way. And while there was a tiny scene regarding that, the whole point is it ultimately did not matter who Kiku was in the past and wasn't negative at all. It speaks a LOT more volume that Sanji just accepts Kiku and loves her straight up than there being a whole kind of weird "Does he know?" scene which is inherently transphobic in itself. I believe it was extremely purposefully done for Kiku to be fully accepted and loved as she presents herself - and any and all transphobic ideas or jokes regarding her have ALL come from a disgusting side of the fandom and doesn't exist at ALL in the canon material. I understand a lot of people do not like Sanji in regards to past behaviour and jokes, but there has been significant growth in both his character and Oda's writing regarding these topics.

Ultimately, I understand why people gritted their teeth at Sanji being around Kiku, but I feel it's nothing short of fantastic to have Sanji just call her beautiful and powerful and NOTHING else is said or done there. And while he also was AWOOGA with Yamato, he didn't question nor be repulsed at Yamato calling himself Kaido's son, just happily accepted it along with everyone else lmao.

Punk Hazard was also previously weird with his character for me, but upon re-watching the scenes and him discussing with Nami about how they don't actually KNOW what's happening and they didn't HAVE a safe place to help these kids get to, I understand why he was hesitant to help them. He was putting mind over emotion there, but ofc Sanji is still ultimately swayed by emotions of wanting to help Nami and also helping the kids lol.

Also lest I remind you EVERYONE was repulsed at Kokoro in a really negative way lmao, that wasn't just a Sanji bit which was overall urghh in itself. But again it feels as if the writing has matured as Sanji was taken in by conventionally unattractive women in Wano, which BROOK called monsters/ghosts, and Sanji was CRAZY about them HHH.

This is all a big discussion to have and I've had it again and again, especially in my LGBT video. But the tldr is yes, Sanji has done questionable things by Oda's hand, but there's a very clear growth in his writing that I feel is unfair to ignore at the current time.

What really makes you like Atalum? Is there anything that you dislike about them/their story?

Hello Anon! First off I'd like to apologize for taking so long to get to this, I'd been recovering from a surgery I'd gotten not too long ago and my thoughts have unfortunately been a bit scrambled. But-! I'm back and I'm ready to answer!

The thing that makes me really like Ataru and Lum as a couple is this.

It's their entire relationship. Or rather just how well thought out and complex it is.

On the surface it seems like the stereotypical boy flirts with random girls while the girl who actually likes him is in a one sided type of relationship. However beneath it there's actually so much more to their relationship as a whole. From moments where Lum expresses her love and affections to the moments Ataru shows his love with small actions and gestures, each little thing adds up to their relationship. I love how Lum puts her all into expressing her feelings for Ataru, how she's willing to reassure him that what she feels is very real and that she won't abandon Ataru when things get tough or complicated. With Lum she's all about words of love which fits into Ataru's personality perfectly. She's the vocal force in their relationship and isn't afraid to let her darling know what's up. Her loyalty as well as her obvious affections for him helps Ataru feel grounded in their relationship and reassures him that Lum loves him. Lum proves over and over again that she's someone Ataru can trust when it comes to the matters of the heart and their romance and she genuinely loves spending time with Ataru despite his less than savory moments.

With Ataru I love how he lets his guard down around Lum. Ataru as a character, while chipper and easy going, is actually surprisingly distant with people. Because of Ataru and his bad luck, he keeps people at an arm's length. Even with the girls he flirts with he never really truly tries to pursue anything meaningful or real. The one time he'd been serious about a girl was with his childhood friend Shinobu, who much like everyone else can only handle so much of him before she gets like everyone else. Even going so far as to drop him twice for Rei and Mendo (though it's understandable cuz Shinobu is a teenager). So Ataru is pretty much in arms when things get serious. But with Lum he's different. Ataru's brand of expressing love is through actions or gestures. He's the very definition of actions speak louder than words and with Lum it becomes so clear that he loves her dearly even if he doesn't physically say it. I love how Ataru let's Lum see him, how as their relationship goes on he grows comfortable with her and makes it obvious through his gestures and actions towards her that Lum is the one who truly owns his love and affections. Little things and details he does that reassures Lum that he loves her and that he's only got room in his heart for her. His way of affection compliments Lum's way perfectly and I adore that.

This is only just a little bit of what I love about them and their relationship and that's only scratching the surface. If I were to list everything we'd all probably be here for years and no one's got time for all that. It's the little things, the little moments that seem miniscule that makes up their romance and I love it to death. As for your other question.....

I can't really think of anything that I dislike about their relationship. As for their story I do kinda wish that there were more stories/moments that focused on them. That let them get a bit more serious and whatnot. However it's not a big deal considering that Urusei Yatsura is a comedy and Rumiko Takahashi's first work so I don't think about it too much lol.

My Fiance and I are into Demon Slayer, and, as one does, we are making a fic for it. Our fic is partially a fix it because we were bummed about what happens to most of the Hashira. Especially but not limited to Obanai and Mitsuri. The problem with us brainstorming for this fic is neither of us are well versed in the series, and we are having a great amount of difficulty remembering the Hashira's names. So we took steps to fix both of those. Eula -> i don't feel like i have to explain this one either.

Amber -> although Amber is very kind and would fit in with Hufflepuff, i felt like her outgoing personality fit Gryffindor better.

Diona -> she has a lot of personality. i didn't think she would fit in anywhere else.

Noelle -> she is Gryffindor you can not change my mind.

Razor -> i felt like his willingness to go into danger was stronger than his kindness.
