Tigerheartstar: Will leave his clan for his children if he must will support and comfort his son actively while all other fathers are either not present or doing their own thing when their adult children are struggling will travel the world to save a dying kitten
WC fans: Is Tigerheartstar the worst father ever? Discuss.
pretty much my thoughts exactly. cause don’t get me wrong i can definitely see why people would dislike tigerheart as a character, he’s done a lot of questionable things plus the erins absolutely whiplash his actions entirely based on if they want him to be portrayed as a good guy or antagonist and it’s fairly annoying. however the one thing tigerheart has consistently shown throughout his behavior is that he’s a GOOD DAD. i’d even say the most canonically involved one based by rare actual show-not-tell moments. he puts his money where his mouth is when it comes to family, will actually risk his health and reputation in ways no other leaders have done.
people say he’s a bad dad on the basis of him telling shadowsight to care for imposterbramble, which out of context is pretty horrible. key here being OUT OF CONTEXT cause people who genuinely read the book will know tigerheartstar was essentially forced into this unfair position after attempting to smuggle shadowsight out of shadowclan for the sake of his safety cause he was in fear for his son’s life. i cannot emphasize how massive of a deal this is in the context of warriors culture, where it has been repeatedly shown that dying as a warrior is FAR better than living as an outsider. leafstar herself said as much when billystorm initially wanted his kittens to live with twolegs when their clan was going through mortal peril. so for tigerheart to be the one who puts his son’s safety above his own pride and clan, trying to get him out of a horrible situation? that’s phenomenal. the only reason it didn’t end up happening is because they got caught, which is then when the other leaders and shadowclan cats pressured him into making shadowsight do the job. basically in a move to prove that shadowsight doesn’t recieve extreme favoritism (shadowsight receives extreme favoritism and that is ok 🖤). similar thing with shadow being put on healer probation, it’s cause both puddleshine and mothwing essentially badgered tigerheartstar into agreeing while tigerheartstar was the only one vouching for shadow in the first place. if it wasn’t for him he certainly wouldn’t have even been allowed to remain a physician at all.
all this to say keep cooking anon you’re real as hell
#again idc if people dislike tigerheart cause I GET IT but i wish people could slander based on bad shit he actually has done#rather than smth thats just. blatantly false to anyone who has read even a book of that arc lmao#ask

i also like picturing fiona, v, and ian sitting at the kitchen table for a lil coffee break after the chaos of seeing everyone else but mickey out of the house and just comfortably chatting, and it's still kind of early on in the phase of the whole extended household knowing about ian-and-mickey so when mickey comes downstairs into the front room in the undershirt and threadbare sweats he went to bed in, one or both of the women kind of wrinkle their nose at him.
ian glares and pouts playfully but there's a barely-there shadow of real offense underneath. and at this point they've all seen mickey be sweet to ian, seen the way he looks at him, and mickey's been. well, helpful-ish around the house despite hogging the bathroom and the oj lmao. so one or the other woman admits okay she kind of gets it now. but all of that is stuff you grow into in a relationship.
"i just can't imagine what you first saw in him," she says.
ian grins. the exchange has taken like ten seconds, and what with mickey still being half asleep and shuffling his way across the other room he hasn't heard any of it.
"hey, mick," ian greets him as soon as he steps through into the kitchen. in the tiny breath between ian's first and second sentence, mickey halts and narrows his eyes, correctly identifying ian's overly peppy tone as ominous. "turn around."
mickey's too asleep (*cough* and too whipped) to put up a big fuss about it, so he just narrows his eyes further into a suspicious glare and then does what ian wants.
so there's mickey in the doorway. bedhead. his strong shoulders and grabbable waist accentuated by his black undershirt. the perky, full shape of his individual ass cheeks clearly apparent under the thin knit of his sleep pants. the pink flush creeping down the back of his neck as he starts to wake up and realize that ian is blatantly checking him out in front of the other two and probably showing him off to them.
ian doesn't need to ask if that answers the question. he just thanks mickey with all the false innocence a "sweet" baby brother can muster and goes back to his coffee, all three of the others grumbling about his smug face.

Nightcloud, Crowfeather, and Breezepelt are one of my favorite family dynamics in these books and they are so fun to analyze (I also did that one bluestar analysis lmao. I love character analysis <3)
You have:
-A depressed man who witnessed his first love sacrifice herself to save him and their friends/the tribe, was left my his second love and was blatantly not told that he was the father of her children, took another woman he didn’t love as a mate to not be scorned by his Clan, and was told that he was the father of these grown warriors in a very traumatic way (for everyone involved, not just him)
-An older woman who became mates with a man she didn’t even like, let alone love, because she feared becoming too old to have children and who constantly butted heads with her husband and was possessive and jealous despite this (which even led to her putting her claws on him in an attempt to get him away from Leafpool)
-A guy who grew up in the middle of his parent’s horrible relationship and was eventually influenced into training in hell and fighting against his home
This family requires a level of nuance to look at that a lot of the fandom just sort of lacks. Everyone did bad things here, that's the point. They're an incredibly messy dynamic and only victimizing one of them to the point you ignore their involvement and put all the blame on the others is silly.
Crow was absolutely a horrendous father to Breeze and used Night for the sake of looking loyal to their Clan.
Night was too overbearing of Breeze and convinced him that his father did not like him (which is false, there's scenes that prove that. Him being a bad father doesn't mean he hated his kid). And she did use Crow in the sense that she only got with him to have children because she was getting older and feared not having any when she could have declined being his mate.
Breezepelt was a victim of his parent's bad relationship and constant arguing but he still attempted to take down the Clans and tried to kill a blind medicine cat and a pregnant woman.
I hate the part of the fandom that portrays Nightcloud as sad that Crowfeather didn’t love her because it feels like such a gross mischaracterization. She was angry, she was mean. She wasn’t crying over Crowfeather. I love how spiteful and bitter she was towards Leafpool and the three despite Crow having literally no idea that they existed and even denying them as his children at first.
I love these three and their dynamic so much. I love how messy they are. I completely understand why people hate Crowfeather and I also understand why people would hate Nightcloud and Breezepelt. I just can't, I love them all.

The Story of Minglan
Nice of you to finally warn Prince Huan of the shitstorm coming his way.
Poor guy, he really does not seem equipped for dealing with all the court shenanigans and a mad father.
***
OMFG, we finally get a name for this woman!
***
You always get the news last, from what I've seen.
***
LMAOOOO, of course he did 🤣🤣
So much rotten offspring! And so many indulging parents who spend their whole lives covering up their crimes and misdeeds.
***
Endless idiocy.
What conferred title? The only thing he is suited for is the executioner's block.
***
AAAAAA, THEY KEEP TALKING ABOUT THIS DRUM BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THEY'VE SHOWN SOMEONE USING IT!!
***
It took her long enough.
***
And here we go.
***
LOL, they clearly didn't see anything??
How are they witnesses? Are they here to blatantly lie?
Also, isn't that kid the son of Wang Ruoyu? How could he have seen anything?
***
LOL, I've been saying!!
And they should have disciplined her long ago, tbh.
***
WTF?
Lies, lies and more lies. All lies.
It is honestly tiresome to watch.
***
Okay, I laughed 🤣🤣
Anyway, if Gu Tingye says he has a plan, then he has a plan. It's probably something underhanded, too, if he can't tell Changbai. I'm not worried. I'm not worried. I'm not worried.
***
This does not bode well.
Also, does anyone know what that band around her head is? Madam Zhang wore one too, when she was sick and after she had given birth.
***
LMAO, I love that his stupid ass is now offering to provide false testimony for Gu Tingye 🤣🤣
His heart is (finally) in the right place but he's just so dumb 🤣🤣
***
Ridiculously cute 💛
***
WTF?
Fucking Manniang again?
***
OMFG, IT IS FUCKING MANNIANG AGAIN 🤬🤬
WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST KILL HER WHEN THEY HAD THE CHANCE 😭😭😭😭
WHYYYYYYYYY😭😭😭
And now we all have to put up with her screeching some more 😭😭
***
I can't tell if she's outright lying or if whatever personality disorder she's got has convinced her that this actually happened because the truth is impossible to bear.
***
God, I cannot stand this woman.
To be this obnoxious and this shameless! Somebody, please stab her already!
***
How is her crazy ass anything even remotely something resembling a reliable witness fit to appear BEFORE A FUCKING EMPEROR?
I mean, the Emperor wisely excused himself on this particular day and the Prime Minister took over, but my point still stands!
***
Okay, now that this episode is done, I am 99% convinced that all this is some scheme between Gu Tingye and the Emperor because the whole thing just devolved into such disastrous chaos. There were these lowlifes, lying through their teeth on things that can be easily disproven (starting with Manniang) but Tingye, who is usually so thorough, careful and meticulous in everything he does mounted such a poor defence, it cannot even be called a defence!
They are definitely up to something and are letting these vermin dig their own graves in the meantime. I am pretty sure that is the plot twist people have warned me is coming, otherwise, none of this makes sense, all things considered. Gu Tingye was already caught once without an adequate defence when Madam Qin was falsely accusing him, there is zero chance he would have let it happen twice. All this is a ruse and he keeps hinting at it to Qi Heng and Sheng Changbai to keep them from doing something stupid on his behalf.

In the lust arc, ichigo never said the "her" kanji in the original Japanese scan, this kanji: 彼 was nowhere to be seen. It was ichigos instinct to protect that made him get up; he didn't know who was calling, but since someone was, he ahd to protect, that's who he is.
The translation for the original Japanese scan is:
“呼んでる. 呼んでるんだ. 聞こえる. 立てよ. 立て. 俺が. 俺が. 俺が護る."
“Calling. They are calling. I can hear it. Rise. Stand up. I…I…I will protect.”
I don't know why viz chose to add a non existent her, but in the original scan, there's no her.
Now you can ship what u like, just don't mischarecterize ichigo for the sake of it. We know you want it to appear that ichigo was down bad for orihime, just don't do it at the cost of ichigos charecter. This was a moment for ichigo to show his instinct to protect, no matter who, and his will as a shinigami.
You also say that in terms panel that ichigo blasts orihime away and off her feet, that he wasnt attacking her because "his sword was on the other side". If he raised from the DEAD to save her, why wouldn't he more cautious of her? That blast flew orihime off her feet, you dont do deliberately do that if ur protecting someone.
I've seen some people use the data book as an arguement to say it was about orihime since it says he was "bound to orihimes screams" when that was 3rd person. That was from a readers perspective, because we as readers knew that orihime was calling out to him, ichigo didn't.
If vasto lorde/ichigo meant to protect orihime, he wouldve said the her kanji in the original scan, and he wouldn't have blasted her away after that. By all means, enjoy ur ship. I don't give a fuck abt that, what I do give a fuck about is ichigo mischarecterization or a false narrative being pushed in order to enjoy ur ship. Ichigo rose from the dead to protect who was calling out to him, because that's what he does. The ichihime ship doenst need this moment to stay alive, once again I know ichihime shippers love to use this as a basis of thir arguement as to why its canon, but it simply didn't happen the way u guys say.
Call me an ichihime anti, call me an orihime hater, I don't give a fuck. Stop pushing false narratives to make ur ship appear any better than it does, its quite frustrating to see mischarecterization happen because of shipping. And I say this too any shippers who want to twist the narrative or mischarecterize charecters in order to validate their ship or prove that their ship is good.
Well guys, it's 2023 and here's another dolt ranting about pronouns in the lust arc, just like the IH Fail essay that ended up being a fail in and of itself.
When will these people learn that Japanese doesn't require pronouns the same way that English does?
Hell, English doesn't even require pronouns when it's redundant and *this* incredibly obvious who is being talked to and/or about:
Seriously. Even if the only thing Ichigo were saying here is the word "protect"...or furthermore, even if we were not meant to know what he was saying at all, and it was just some mumbled, broken speech that the reader was not meant to decipher...It's still blatantly evident that whatever it is he's saying, he's talking to/about Orihime.
I mean this is just hilarious to me. Here's Orihime and Ichigo, literally placed together in side by side panels as Ichigo continues to chant about protecting...And ichiruki shippers are like, "hmmm well, it's not super clear who he's talking about because there's no pronoun so...I guess we'll never know 🤷♀️."
When literally, she's...she's right there on the page lmao. That's Orihime, she's right there! You can't miss her!! Like c'mon, dude. This is basic reading comprehension. You really need a pronoun to help you figure this out when her face is right there? Directly adjacent to his? When she's listening to what he's saying, so that it can then dawn on her that, "oh shit, it's my fault, he's doing this for ME."
This is the very next page following that last one, with a flashback of the moment in question, of Orihime screaming out for Ichigo, the moment he could hear HER calling before he rose up from the dead, chanting about protection. Confirming for the 47 thousandth time that yeah, he rose up from the dead for her.
You think Kubo drew this^ entire page, at such a pivotal moment, to show that Orihime's...wrong? Like some sort of gag? She's just *imagining* that Ichigo rose up for her, but it's not actually true? That's...certainly an interesting way to interpret things lmao.
Here's the page the flashback references, of Orihime screaming, placed directly next to Ichigo just as he begins to rise up. But yeah, it had nothing at all to do with Orihime. Just a total coincidence, I'm sure.
And if that weren't enough, here's the Bleach Unmasked Databook:
完全虚化した一護は, 織姫が発した叫びを反芻 しその目的だけに縛られた。
"The perfectly hollowfied Ichigo ruminated over Orihime's screams and was bound only to that purpose"
You...mentioned this? Kind of?
"I've seen some people use the data book as an arguement to say it was about orihime since it says he was "bound to orihimes screams" when that was 3rd person. That was from a readers perspective, because we as readers knew that orihime was calling out to him, ichigo didn't."
The readers aren't the ones who bound Ichigo to Orihime's screams (especially not you, anon, since you keep insisting it had nothing to do with her lmao). Kubo did that. That's how he meant for this scene to be interpreted: that Ichigo was bound to Orihime's screams. But you're still here fighting against it for some reason lol.
Ichigo did know she was calling out to him. It was part of his internal monologue, as she's screaming, before he hollowfied. Whether the pronoun is there or not (because again, the pronoun for her doesn't *need* to be there to make it clear who he's talking about when she's clearly the only person screaming, placed directly next to a panel of him rising him up...) he could hear her voice. He could hear her calling him. He ruminated over ORIHIME'S screams and was bound to ONLY that purpose. Only her.
You can try to downplay it and remove her from the equation all you want, but it's impossible. It's impossible because she was the only one on her knees by his side when he died, the only one screaming, the only one whose voice he could hear, the only purpose he was bound to. The only one whose face is side by side with his as he speaks about protecting. The only one featured in a flashback to the crucial moment of her screaming, placed side by side with a panel of him about to rise up, confirming it was for her.
Try to crop her out of all the pages leading up to the moment Ichigo rises up and see how much is left. Try to make sense of him rising up because he can hear someone screaming, without her there...literally screaming. Try to erase her when she was the catalyst to it all.
And I guess at this point I just don't understand why that's so hard to believe? That Ichigo rose up from the dead for Orihime? Considering Kubo has confirmed that he planned the final chapter revealing the endgame couples after writing chapter ONE.
Is it really that difficult to fathom? That Kubo wrote Ichigo doing such a thing.....for his future wife? Considering Kubo *knew* they would be married in the end when he wrote the lust arc?
Honestly like, it's been seven years. What is the point of digging in your heels and shouting at clouds that scenes like this between Ichigo and Orihime were not romantic when their relationship was literally...planned out...to be romantic?
It's over, it's canon. You can either accept the high likelihood that you were misinterpreting Ichigo and Orihime's relationship from the way Kubo meant for it to be interpreted all along, or continue to rant in my inbox on anon. The choice is yours lol.
#IchiHime#anti ichiruki#i don't even really mention IR in this i just want it in my tag on my blog lol

I find it interesting how the first poster is accusing groups of TB stans of not handling criticism, when TG stans (particularly Alicent stans) are the ones most often "melting and crying" over criticism.
Pointing out Alicent's hypocrisy and cruelty, the fact that Aegon is a rapist, and Aemond was a coward and cruel are all met with screaming. They flat out deny any facts of canon that show how awful their favs are. I've been told to kill myself multiple times just for pointing out actual canon things Alicent has done. Like, the call is coming from inside the house TG lmao.
I don't deny that there are certain people who claim to be TB but have absolutely braindead takes (namely certain Daemon stans, which is very sad). But the fact of the matter is, those people are a very small percentage. The percentage of insane people who can't stand criticism is wayyyyyyy larger in the TG fandom.
Most of TG stans' so-called criticism of Rhaenyra is just calling her a whore, saying she roll over and take any injustice, and that she's not nice enough. Of course we get annoyed and angry with that, it's not even actual criticism; it's just noise. The few times they actually have valid critiques of Rhaenyra, they still tie it in with calling her a fat whore. Anything of worth they could possibly offer is always completely bound to their intense hatred of Rhaenyra.
No, Rhaenyra isn't perfect, we don't expect people to just blindly worship her. She's not a good person, she's classist, and she wrongfully ordered the executions of innocent people twice. However, she's the rightful heir, that's literally a fact. We expect Rhaenyra to be supported because she's a victim of the patriarchy and misogynists. She doesn't have to be your favorite character, but the fact remains that she's the rightful queen and the Greens are usurpers and warmongers.
As for the whole "team smallfolk" idea: it's basically always used as an excuse to be blatantly hateful towards Rhaenyra. The "team smallfolk" and "team neutral" people never attack the Greens with the same vigor as they do Rhaenyra and her family. In fact, most of them even say that they're "green leaning".
The contradiction in this idea of supporting the smallfolk and the Greens simultaneously is that if the Greens hadn't interfered, the Dance and the deaths of the thousands of smallfolk wouldn't have happened. Rhaenyra and the Blacks didn't start the war, the Greens did. The Greens committed the most atrocities and refused every single offer of peace Rhaenyra offered.
I think the second poster is hilarious though. I don't know if they're TG, I assume so based on the subreddit. I don't know if they meant to, but they pointed out just how hypocritical the first poster's mini rant was. The first poster tacked on "Also they hate "Team Smallfolk," and the second poster pointed out how most of TG also just don't give a shit. Even if the second poster isn't TG and was just going to that subreddit to start something, there are still so many TG stans who admit that the smallfolk don't matter to them. I even had an anon once tell me that the maids Aegon raped don't matter to them as an answer to why they like and support him. I'm not going to say that they're right on not caring, but at least they're not hiding behind that false moral superiority.
Like I said earlier, the Greens were the ones who caused the deaths of thousands of smallfolk, both indirectly by starting the war and directly through Aemond and Daeron. The Greens didn't care about the smallfolk in any way, they only cared about power. Any TG stans who act like they're "better for the smallfolk" are delusional.
To sum up my thoughts: the first poster is projecting. Every single one of their criticisms apply better to their own group. The delusion and false superiority that poster displays are hilarious and frustrating.

sorry to ramble in your inbox (feel free to ignore this ofc) but you are the only person on my dash being realistic about misogyny rn
I'm so annoyed by the posts like "men are being ignored by women and that's why they aren't supporting us". Because the feminist movement for over a decade has had a focus on supporting men, especially with mental health. And there's a whole month (this month!) that is focused around men's health (mostly physical but with some mental as well). And women are all over the internet encouraging men to do things like go to therapy. The list goes on.
and the fact that they know (or acknowledge) none of that shows how much posturing it all is.
"complete strangers made generalizations I didn't like on the internet so it's their fault I'm a misogynist" I am going to scream.
god i can’t stand how much the feminist movement centers men. I feel like honestly part of the problem is ppl don’t see women as a marginalized group even when women are clearly facing really brutal oppression, bc subconsciously they think that’s how it’s supposed to be.
And like , when they acknowledge women as oppressed, its never acknowledged as being done by men— there’s always some invisible boogeyman doing it: “the government” or “capitalism” or “society”. All these very vague gender neutral concepts.
The fact that it’s taboo to actually acknowledge women have an oppressor and that oppressor is MEN drives me insane. Among leftist groups it’s at its most hypocritical. They are so clearly able to understand oppression, and the dynamic between oppressed and oppressor…until it’s women. Then suddenly we’re equal apparently.
And that’s something men want, that’s why they push so hard for this narrative that “men’s issues are different but just as bad” (even tho that’s 100% fucking false lmao) because it means that they’re distanced from accountability, and women aren’t suffering anymore than them so really those bitches should just shut up about it.
It’s disgusting and intentional and I encourage any woman reading this to stop caring about “mens rights”. They already have rights.
It’s like, think about how offended ppl were when straight ppl requested their own month. Think about how blatantly racist it sounds when white ppl try to imply they’re oppressed for being white.
now unpack why you don’t feel that way with mennn
#ask tag#sexism#sorry this is only kind of related to the ask 😭#I hope more ppl are anti sexist on ur dash anon#Also ok i generally dislike using racism as an argument when it’s about smth that isnt about racism#bc I’m indigenous and it annoys me so much when ppl just use it as a “gotcha”#Like the amount of times white ppl use anti-native and anti-black racism as an easy gotcha move is crazy#BUT when it’s about sexism and hypocrisy in talking about women’s oppression#I’ll bring it up#Bc also the way sexism and racism function is way more similar than anyone talks about#Not identical but the whole hating you from birth outcasting you for your appearance making you seem uneducated and uncivilised#While simultaneously preventing you from getting an education so you stay uneducated and therefore easy to control and keep down#Fetishizing and killing you as a powerplay#Keeping you from voting keeping you from seeing any significant power#Unfair imprisonment (like how despite less women ending up in jail they tend to be there for more minor crimes with longer sentences)#Being systematically forced into poverty and having your body systemically controlled#(Note - specifically talking about cis women here. For trans women it’s a mix of some of this and a lot of really brutal homophobia)#Anyway#Oh also police brutality especially against female DV survivors#It just shocks me how ppl talk about sexism

"He has never done anything wrong" is simply false. Just because his actions have reasonings and actually understandable intentions along with more personal and evil ones doesn't absolve him of his actions. The whole thing with that darkling guy was that he had no intentions except evil ones and that is the guy with more nuance? don't make me laugh. its not just about morality, even the worst to worst characters need to have more motivations than power and revenge on repeat.
I think you might want to reread what I said and try again:
I really wouldn’t call Grim (lame ass name ugh) a villain in like how the plot trajectory goes. Like Aster kept calling him a villain in her promo stuff but he… doesn’t do anything to narratively justify that. There’s a big third act betrayal (that makes ZERO SENSE) so he is like objectively fucking awful but he’s also not really framed as such. Like I’m fully waiting for Nightbane to be like “no actually he’s never done anything wrong in his life, in fact he single handedly invented feminism” à la ACOMAF
Anyway, I really should not indulge this anon further, as hilarious as this is. But for general context, one big twist in Lightlark is that pre canon Grim (the Rhysand/obligatory morally grey love interest with the exact same description in every romantasy ever) was convinced that the only way to win their stupid ass tournament thing is for the protagonist Isla to fall in love with Oro (Tamlin). But oh teh noes Isla already loved him! So his plan, framed as a huge sacrifice, was to… wipe all of her memories of him and their relationship without consulting her about it… so that uh.. hopefully? maybe? she’ll fall in love with Oro when the tournament begins. It’s just so precarious and flimsy to begin with!
Meanwhile he completely undercuts his own goals by showing up and immediately diving into terrible banter with her. And taking her out on a date through not!Velaris and randomly… hand feeding her chocolate. The entire book is just cartoonish but he basically takes every single opportunity to flirt with her and there’s at least one make out scene randomly set in an abbey (there is zero established religion in this book!!!!!) that I am glad to have mostly blocked out of my memory. Like he is NOT doing anything to further his own goals of pushing Isla towards Oro.
Isla ends the first book (lmao understandably) furious with Grim and randomly deciding she’s in love with Oro. But the narrative framing is obviously one where Grim made a tragic mistake and/or that his actions are justified if misguided. He’s just so blatantly a Rhysand! I haven’t read the sequel yet but just from the sheer ACOTAR of it all, I’m certain the second book is going to be speedrunning the ACOMAF trajectory where the narrative justifies all of his actions and conveniently forgets anything wrong he may have done.
He’s frankly barely a character, he’s just speedrunning Rhysand tropes. His motivations make no sense and his reasoning is so bizarre! The reason I was saying making him more evil could be more interesting is that, in the completely alien other world where Lightlark is remotely competently written, a scenario that acknowledges what an insane violation it is to like unilaterally decide all this for someone he supposedly loves could be genuinely compelling. If it’s acknowledged as cruelty and having no consideration for the protagonist’s desires and ability to make choices for herself. Also like damn literally all his screen time is just shitty banter and embarrassing angsting about being a monster like please just give me some variety— let alone actual genuine character work.
I don’t even like Rhysand. But his trajectory from ACOTAR to ACOMAF is at least appropriately drawn out. He’s actually framed as genuinely antagonistic and dangerous on introduction, and the points where he does help Feyre in the first book do a good job of very gradually shifting her perspective on him. And when she hates him the narrative at least mostly tries to lean into it. I already felt like ACOMAF was too annoying with its banter and the obvious foregone conclusion of their romance from very early on, where the reader isn’t allowed to come to their own opinions about him. But it’s way more competently done than anything in Lightlark. The relationship has way more time to breathe.
The Darkling meanwhile is a traditional villain who masquerades as the morally ambiguous sad boy love interest for like half of the first book. (But his fandom has never been able to let go of that initial framing rip). His motivations are pretty simple— at the heart of it, he just wants control. There’s depth to how he tries to achieve it. How he tries to present his motivations as much more reasonable and just than they are. He often undercuts himself too, but it comes from a point of deliberate characterization. His arc is one where he’s spiraling due to his waning control of the situation— and the protagonist— and becoming far more volatile and vicious for it. He’s horrible, but like that’s the point lmao
#this is soooo funny#unfortunately I’m too opinionated to not take this chance to talk characterization#a mysterious stranger has appeared#all the bendy punctuations#i ramble sometimes#grishaverse#acotar#lightlark#book talk

this might be incredibly mean to say but I loved how honest you were with that anon lol. most cishet men just do suck in my experience so “keep your expectations low” is legitimately good advice despite how pessimistic it might sound at first glance. from the experiences of friends it seems hard to find any who are actually gentle and care about the other person’s pleasure enough to adjust or even put the effort into improving. it’s sad that we have to keep our expectations low but…whatever lmao /lh
i would love to be hopeful with them bc its not impossible but i dont want to set them up for false expectation like a lot of them just blatantly suck ass KJDSJSDJK. like i got through a lot of sex because im super domineering and they were mostly just dick to me as awful as that sounds LOOOL
ive had some men i really like hooking up up with but its like... 1 in 20 esp if they're cishet. fucking bisexual men is always a good time for me tbh ! but its hard to find openly bi men on the whole and esp ones that arent taken
#return to sender#and like. the only reason i found any decent men was because i was going THROUGH them like the graphic tees at a thrift store

I watched the Barbie movie for the first time yesterday and it made me realize that I don't think people get the point of the treatment of the Kens???
It's literally set up at the beginning of the movie. Barbieland is reversed from the real world, which is why the Kens are treated how they are. Additionally, I am pretty sure how the Kens are treated is meant to be a satirical way of exploring how women are treated by men in a way that men will see and understand, because the Kens are very much objectified by the Barbies. It's one of the reasons Beach Ken decides to turn Barbieland into a patriarchy (something he literally mentions regretting at the end of the movie because patriarchy "isn't about horses").
I've seen people say the Kens are back to where they were at the beginning once the matriarchy is reinstated and I just ... no?????
The Barbies realize what happened that made the Kens do what they did and they take steps to help them feel wanted and respected. The narrator even says "one day Kens will have the same rights as women in the real world" and while one person might take that as shitty, the Barbies already took the first step on the first day by allowing Kens to hold spots in government (granted not on the Supreme Court but they still are allowed to hold spots in government).
STEREOTYPICAL BARBIE LITERALLY TELLS BEACH KEN THAT HE CAN HAVE HIS OWN IDENTITY. This then leads the REST of the Kens to do the same; figure out their own identities outside of their Barbies and their roles. This is what the "I Am Kenough" meme refers to lmao. It's literally referring to Ken realizing he's more than Barbie, he's more than beach, he's Ken and that's okay.
The story is messy, I won't deny that. But also, saying the Kens are in the same place as they were at the start of the movie (objectified himbos with no role in government) is blatantly false. There's a massive difference between "the Kens don't run the government anymore" and "the Kens don't have any role in the government at all" lmao. There's still a long way for them to go from where they're at by the end of the movie, but saying there wasn't any improvement made is a blatant lie.
#barbie 2023#the kens go from objectified himbos with no identity to having a sense of self identity. that alone is improvement lmao#movie analysis#tw sexism#not sure how else to tag this?#idk

I was going to just let stuff go, say "Carlos and Lando are both basically universally hated by F1 fans online but loved at the tracks," and move on. But I think there is something to say about all the shit BOTH their families are getting after this most recent race.
It's 2023. Lando has proved his talent and worth to McLaren time and time again. He's among the best paid drivers on the grid. Yet you still have these salty ass fans carrying on on McLaren's socials about them having to prioritize him because he's a pay driver and his daddy pays McLaren's bills. Which is not only a HUGE slap in the face to all of the hard work and effort (especially in the midst of the chronic pain he's discussed) Lando has put in to the team, but also slandering the entire Norris family's character. These people are accusing his dad of paying the team to sabotage his son's teammate? Seriously? The same man who was cheering for Oscar just as loud as he was his own son? These assholes need to build a bridge and get the fuck over their baggage with Lando. They don't have to support him, but this spreading false information and even dragging his family into it is disgusting. Both he and his family know the team is the priority. They've never implied he should be favored over his teammate. (And the Oscar fans hating on Lando over team strategy decisions that Lando doesn't make himself need to get the fuck over it too. Unless these same people were screaming "sabotage" in Silverstone when Lando nearly got undercut but not only Oscar but also George had that safety car not saved McLaren's ass, then I quite literally don't want to hear how the team pitting the second car in the placements is "sabotage." Especially not when the team has routinely explained their reasonings. Shit happens. It's racing. If people can't handle that without spreading lies and conspiracy theories and blatant hatred, try a cooking competition show instead. They usually don't have to work as a team anyway – it'll be right up their alleys).
Same thing with Carlos. They're not asking for Carlos to be favored. They're asking for equal treatment. Which frankly - given Ferrari isn't fighting for championships or wins right now, shouldn't be that difficult for them to do, yet as Sainz Sr. pointed out, Carlos isn't even sure when he's allowed to fight his teammate because there's completely different standards based upon who is in front of who. That's not being "political" anymore than Ferrari continuously giving Carlos orders to hold position when Charles is ahead, but allowing Charles to fight every time Carlos is ahead is "political." Also, as I mentioned previously, the ONLY time his family gets involved like this is when it's warranted. Contrary to popular belief, McLaren has never prioritized just Lando, just like they didn't prioritize just Carlos when he was on the team. They prioritize who is faster — sometimes by race pace, sometimes by strategy. Point being, in McLaren, unless it's a situation where one driver is blatantly off the pace, they are generally treated equal. There was no reason for the Sainz family to go on the offense, and now look, practically everyone they encountered on the team when Carlos was here, they're still close with. The ONLY teams that seem to have a problem with the Sainz family are the teams that either don't want to give equal treatment or the other teammates' relatives were causing problems to begin with.
In short, both their families are tremendously supportive of their sons. And when their sons are being treated fairly by their teams, they're tremendously supportive of those teams too. I don't think you can fault either one of them for defending their sons when their team doesn't treat them fairly, however.
Okay. End rant. I've just had a laundry day and all of the stuff I have read about both of them in between loads of laundry has thoroughly pissed me off lmao.
i really needed to read this right now. sorry i was so late to post ❤️

Thank you so much for your response! Since you said you like talking about shig in detail (I’m always weary of sending too many questions) I was wondering what you think it was like for him to remember his origin in mva? What do you think he experienced emotionally and like thought wise? Even for someone relatively stable that would feel pretty traumatizing
I don't get tired of Tomura asks!
He remembers it clearly now for the first time since it happened.
It was reliving it all over again for him.
But instead of reacting with shock and grief like he did when he was 5, he reacted with denial.
I love looking back at MVA with the perspective I have of it now (fuck "villain king shigaraki" lmao)
You can literally SEE EXACTLY where his narration changes from "this is exactly what I remember thinking in that moment" to him twisting it to be "no, maybe I actually understood it to be (insert AFO gaslighting here lol)”
It goes from remembering a very distinct thought he had at the time, to just putting his own current self's perspective of the world (which has been severely distorted by AFO at this point because it's during MVA!!) on the situation and turning it into something blatantly false.
Yes, you hate everyone, as you're vomiting and crying as your family dies in front of you and desperately reaching for your mom. Those words totally align with the image they're on top of!
Let's be clear. "Maybe I already understood what was going on" is more than just "oh, it was an accident done by me", it's "Oh no, actually, I understand now that I was doing it because I hated them", which is just, false.
Yeah, "unmistakable blood lust", sure. It wasn't a reaction of shock, anger, grief, physical and emotional pain, yeah it wasn't any of that. It was actually just you really wanting to kill your father! Yes you totally must have wanted that all along. That totally holds up too the way that last moment you had with him haunts you constantly 16 years later 👍🏼
What do I think his experience was like? Let's just say that Tomura's takes on his memories and himself are as bad as the fandom's takes on him and leave it at that lol
