To all the wonderful het people in the MHA fandom that think we queer shippers call you homophobic just because you don't want to ship bkdk:

Listen, if you take a romantic bkdk moment *ahem for the rest of our lives ahem* and don't find it to your liking, that's one thing. You aren't homophobic for not enjoying a dynamic between two characters regardless of gender.

But if you put Ochaco in bkg's place during said romantic moment, and you suddenly find it the most romantic thing ever just bc it's a girl and a guy & it isn't 'weird' now...yes. You are homophobic. I don't feel like I should have to add this, most of you are grown ass adults, but: fucking DUH. That's why we call y'all homophobes.

Not bc you don't see the potential bkdk has, it's normal to not enjoy a ship. But if it was Ochaco in bkg's place during all the shit bkdk has been through it'd be the most romantic thing in the world to y'all just because she's a girl and bkg isn't.

And I mean, it also doesn't help that y'all throw around slurs @ bkdk shippers like it's your fuckin job. Calling someone gay slurs because they dare to ship a queer pairing that you find disgusting? That's pretty homophobic too.

my lover and i dance to old music in a tiny kitchen. we judge new music together and take food critique very seriously. we watch love is blind before we fall asleep and agree that if they had a queer season, it would be bloody but also make for excellent tv. of fucking course queer people would know someone for only 2 weeks and agree to get married. what are you saying.

at a bar with friends, a man puts his hand on my wrist. got a boyfriend? and yes, i do have a boyfriend, she's amazing. i am texting her while i wander around a gas station named after geese. i am visiting a swing state for a wedding. in the candy aisle i overhear: she's actually like a lesbian it's disgusting. two teenage girls with packaged sandwiches in their hands, giggling. no literally, like. i'm not, like. okay with her being there while we're all, like, naked and changing.

my girlfriend and i tailgate, drink gin and cider out of cups. from the frat group beside us, a man corrects himself with one of his friends: bro, i mean, nonbinary entity, and it makes everyone around him laugh, myself included. he razzes his friend the same way i would have killed for at 19 years old - like nothing happened, he continues: you apply sunscreen like an alien. he does a little sassy (and fairly accurate) dance interpretation of the motion. his friend is laughing so hard they're crying.

i am lucky, i live in a safe neighborhood in a safe state. my masc passenger princess comes up from DC. i drive her for an hour to where all the leaves are a violent arrangement of color. we walk along the trails, letting autumn into our blood. in this part of the state, there's a lot of pickup trucks and trump signs. when we chastely kiss before getting into the car, i accidentally make eye contact with a woman holding her child's wrist. she looks disgusted. she looks fucking pissed.

two hours later my girl and i are eating dinner on a patio, soaking in the last warmth of new england sun before the chill of winter sets in. we are giggling and trying to talk through plastic vampire teeth. at another table, i see a young woman sit up straighter. i watch her watch us. she blushes and takes her partner's hand from across the table. shy, like the taste of evening has just become something deeper.

it's worth it for this moment, i think. my lover is still humming the same song she's been singing for four days straight and i don't want to kill her for it. her guitar is beside my bed. her toothbrush is in my bathroom. in a few moments i will make us lunch. we are lucky enough to have found each other. it is lucky enough to be in love.

I love platonic relationships in media, I love brotps, but whenever I see a post that's like "we should stop focusing on romance and focus on FRIENDS, we should bring back characters being FRIENDS," I can't help but feel a little wary of those posts. Maybe it's just the fandoms I'm in, but exploring friendships is still incredibly common from what I see and I would argue on tumblr dot com it's more common to see a M/F brotp than a M/F romantic pairing, so these posts really read as a rebrand of "why does everyone have to be gay, can't two men/two women be friends anymore?"

so i started this show and it just gets worse and worseeeee not only did it lift the romance subplot directly from twilight (and not well) but they also are trying to play the forbidden love angle hard in the fantasy racism vein except it's a "cross-species" relationship between the two whitest people i've ever seen in my life and there are three people of color in the whole (first season of the) show who aren't villains and it seems that every other episode (and sometimes ebery episode and sometimes twice an episode!) there is a man physically or magically subjugating a woman and i keep waiting for the big reveal at the end to be stolen from fucking rainbow rowell

tumblr algorithm stop feeding me takes that this show is just a silly goofy comedy that shouldn’t include death or that Izzy is the token disabled elder queer on the show where an actual disabled elder queer is literally the romantic lead or that Lucius and Pete being called “mateys” is diluting their gayness because it’s not “husbands” or that it’s sexist that Zheng lost her fleet and later prioritized her love for a man or that Ed is Izzy’s abuser because we conveniently forgot all of season 1 or that trauma is never followed through with because sometimes actions are used instead of words or that Ed learned nothing because the inn was apparently a whim as if he hasn’t been obsessing over retirement from day 1 I swear did we even watch the same show?? I literally feel like I’m in backwards land?

I have a really novel concept for y’all complaining about character’s arcs not being fully resolved or healed and that’s called there is supposed to be another season of this show

I also have another really novel concept as to why every single character did not have a one on one trauma apology session and so much time was spent on Ed and Stede and that is because this is literally the Ed and Stede show and also sometimes parallels are meant to be inferred and extrapolated because that is what efficient storytelling does instead of spoonfeeding you

And my most novel concept of all as to why some beloved characters had less screen time is because Max is a massive jerk and cut the budget

Y’all this wasn’t personal and maybe this show was never about Izzy maybe the show called our flag means death is actually about death maybe sad does not equal homophobic letdown maybe the brown gay character introduced as the love interest from day 1 gets to outlive the angry white guy that had a redemption arc after actively bullying and trying to break up every gay couple for a season I don’t know what to tell you just can you please let non-white people have this arc for once without assuming it’s an attack on you I’m BEGGING y’all

Actually the implications of John also being bisexual are so fucking tasty to me because like. OG John has no support system and no protection against the world except his own perceived strength so he learns to ferret out anything that can possibly be seen as weakness to those around him and that includes any affection or attraction he might feel towards men because nothing screams "stay in your fucking closet" like spending all your time around a fringe subculture of serial killing doomsday preppers in the Midwest during the Reagan era.

By the time he notices Dean starting to look a little too long at boys his age, he's probably convinced himself that whatever he felt (still feels but ignores) was a temporary youthful indiscretion, and of course Dean can't afford those, doesn't get to have those, he's got to be a soldier. generally clueless (as in, simply not devoted to paying attention anymore) but not stupid. obviously if you beat someone over the head when you come on to them they’ll figure it out eventually. he might even figure it out quicker with guys because it’s more “out of the ordinary” so to speak

im imagining for instance him and maverick going out to a bar in the early/mid 90s and maverick is off putting the moves on someone else (because he’s maverick but also perhaps to make ice jealous [like a 25% success rate]) and ice gets clocked and hit on by the guy next to him… and his reaction is like 50% “not interested 😒🤨” and 50% “not interested 😌💅” his needs are already being met no WAY this guy could compare to mav 😋
