"Introduction Say, have you heard the rumors? About the incident that occurred in the opera house of the Flower Capital. Someone stole the voice of the troupe's top singer, or so they say. The suspects are the opera troupe's members, the conductor, and the manager. Perhaps, this is the work of the phantom who's infiltrated the opera house... Do you know who is culprit?"

Seems to be receiving singing lessons from someone every night, and has been getting markedly better at singing of late. DIVA

I could hear the buzzer that sounds right before performances begin, so I rushed right back)"

The Popular Singer (in writing)
(Anyway! I only wasn't in the holding room from 7:30 to 7:55pm) (Whoever put the poisoned juice in my holding room during that time - that's the culprit) (Eh, what? No, I don't really feel down over being poisoned) (It's not like I have friends in this opera troupe, after all...)"

"The next person ought to be in the office… Excuse us… good evening! Allow me to introduce our opera troupe's manager. So very handsome, smart, and kind… oh, even his side profile when looking at music scores is amazing… ❤️"
Image
THE MANAGER TERU "A mystery of the opera house? How trivial, I'll definitely solve it" The new manager of the opera house, replacing his predecessor who gave up under the phantom's harassment. As a pleasant and handsome young man, he's very popular with the troupe members too. He's also the elder brother of the patron. MANAGER
Original Tweet
The Manager
"Oh, good evening. What a pity that incident was. But as a stand-in, your voice was superb. That boy who was the victim - I suppose he does need to rest. "Ah, about the day it happened. I was pretty much backstage with the assistant manager. I took a quick glance at the audience seats when the pre-show buzzer went off at 7:50pm, I believe. My younger brother was in the usual box seat, so I did try giving him a quick wave. But maybe it was the nerves – my brother didn't seem like he noticed me there."
Original Tweet
The Manager
"Oh, speaking of which, the tenor singer had some juice with him around 7:30pm, if I'm not mistaken. He was saying that he wanted to get in the top star's good books, but I wonder if he managed to deliver it? Ah, no, things are always hectic right before a show, aren't they. I'd wanted to go to the audience seats, but it was so crowded that it'd have taken 10 minutes each way, so I gave up on that."
Original Tweet
The Manager
"Well then, I've got to get back to work. My brother asked me to handle the preparations for the villa, you see. We used it in the past, and there's a beautiful lake nearby, too. Besides, I need to reconsider the casting for the next show…"

The Novice Songstress
"Thank you for talking to us! Just between us, it seems like the manager's been thinking about changing the lead role in our recent opera. The recent trend has been towards romantic operas rather than thrilling ones, you see. Don't tell me he poisoned the popular singer for that reason!? But even a poison-serving manager would be amazing…❤️"

The Novice Songstress
"We've heard the statements from two people, but this alone isn't quite enough to figure out who the culprit is, hm. We must do our best tomorrow, too! THE ASSISTANT MANAGER AKANE "Excuse me, my important person is breathing onstage right now, so" The new assistant manager of the opera house, who arrived together with the manager. Has always been a great fan of the ballerina, and possibly became the assistant manager so that he could see her from closer up. Essentially doesn't look at anyone besides the ballerina, but does not disobey the manager who puts him to hard work. ASSISTANT

Original Tweet
The Assistant Manager
"But she left the room right away and hadn't been holding any juice, so the ballerina isn't the culprit. She met up with the ballet teacher right after leaving the holding room, and returned backstage. Adorably, of course. The manager? Who knows, ahaha, I haven't the faintest idea but he must've been somewhere around there, right?"

The Assistant Manager
"Anyway, can I talk about the ballerina now? She's so very admirable. She looks sincerely happy about the success of her best friend the radish songstress… whoops. Truly, what a goddess…!! Yes, you and none other are the angel of this opera troupe!! I love you, marry me!!! What, the culprit? Why don't we just say it's the phantom?"

The Novice Songstress
"He didn't talk about anything besides the ballerina, huh… The assistant manager really does like the ballerina, you know. To the point where he'd practically like to turn this from an opera house into a ballet theatre. Don't tell me that's why he did that to the popular singer… wait, if that's true, d-doesn't that mean I'll meet the same fate very soon…!? This has gotten scary. Let's go find the next person!"

What are your top 10 operas? 👀
Ha! In the back of my slightly vodka-soddened mind last night, I thought if I mentioned I’d settled on a Top 10, someone would ask and I better be ready for this. And I suppose I am. If a recording or production I especially love is available, I’m including it. So, here we go. In chronological order.
1. Orphee et Eurydice by Gluck
This needs to be in French for tenor. It’s all JDF’s fault.
https://open.spotify.com/album/38VjB1qm18RTD73vCnbWQy?si=bEp_mSZ1R0eTx_a3XZjyZw
2-4 Mozart/Da Ponte Operas
I must have all three.
Figaro: https://open.spotify.com/album/2COjPQLeLFEAYFaDcqS87d?si=wPTzhfmGRbu1TSyxTglHrA
Don Goivanni: Met 2011, why can I not own you?!?!?!?!
Cosi: My favorite has its own Wiki page, but I can’t find it on US Spotify. Sigh. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cos%C3%AC_fan_tutte_(Alain_Lombard_recording)
5. Barber of Seville by Rossini
Recording: https://open.spotify.com/album/32cmfJ4UErpvxbeVpNwvdZ?si=-wymKWZvRoWR8Q-0x7RBfA
Video: Don’t have a link, but the Met Sher with Mattei, JDF, and DiDonato is perfection.
6. Lucia di Lammermoor by Donizetti
Anything with Natalie Dessay. Barring that: https://www.operaonvideo.com/lucia-di-lammermoor-met-2009-netrebko-beczala/
7. La Traviata by Verdi
I’m still searching for the perfect Traviata. I’ve probably listened to/watched more different productions of this than any other opera, but I’m still waiting for The One™. Please, send your favorites.
8. Don Carlo by Verdi
Preferable 4 Act in Italian with the Lacrimosa
Still waiting for my favorite of this, too. (Verdi is a bitch like that, I suppose.) For 4 Act with Lacrimosa, the 2008 La Scala. And I’m still swooning over the San Francisco. This is the one I listen to the most often: https://open.spotify.com/album/4Ey73exZ6sMhthzaI6jyas?si=1FZkXSfJSMa_GwiG1-9ZrA
9. Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky
I know it’s slightly blasphemous to not pick a Hvorostovsky, but this production is where I fell in love with the opera: https://youtu.be/lgTTOQLl9SE
Also, the 2015 Mariinsky.
10. Tosca by Puccini
https://open.spotify.com/album/6V0vxEJIlThuJSgVhr15sb?si=c9iM8P8LRt28xXGNBe1DKg
Thanks so much for asking!!!!

The many shows of Sid & Marty Krofft (part 3 of 3: The one you probably know...)
(Thanks to Steven Brandt)
youtube
(Thanks to landofthelost2009)
Confession time: I never saw any of the Jurassic Park films until long after they left the theaters. Why? Because I was scarred by Land of the Lost! I mean, my young self was terrified that those dinosaurs were gonna eat those poor people! (It didn’t help that classmates who were watching the show chased me all over the playground making Sleestak noises)
It wasn’t until high school and beyond that I actually took a hard look at the show, and I realized that while yes the adventure was a bit intense for a kid, it wasn’t that bad (but the emotional scarring was still there when Jurassic Park came out)
Then the Will Farrell movie came out and I wanted to see it...until I realized they turned my childhood into a Will Farrell movie (and Rotten Tomatoes agreed, rating it at 26%)
But enough ranting...
If you go by the length of time it was on the air, Land of the Lost is easily the Kroffts’ most successful show (The Krofft Supershow and Wonderbug are the only others to get a second season) It’s yet another Gilligan’s Island style show (Children’s programming producers love making those, don’t they?) that follows the adventures of Rick Marshall and his children Will and Holly (which really makes the romantic subplot of the Farrell film all the more creepier) as they are drawn through a hole between realities from our world to a land inhabited by Ewoks, lizard men and the 70′s vision of dinosaurs (this was filmed before scientists realized the dino’s likely didn’t drag their tails behind them)
(Thanks to Alien Species Wiki)
The “Ewoks” are a race of furry pygmies names the Pakuni, and the producers cast child actors to play them. One, a blonde-furred (most Pakuni had brown or black fur) named Cha-ka, became a semi-regular and eventually became a full cast member in season 3
(Thanks to Tenor)
The lizard men were known as the Sleestak. Though not inherently evil, they see humans as a threat to their existence and are therefore hostile to them. The Marshalls later encounter Enik, a member of an advanced species of Sleestak. He believed he was researching his ancestors, but later realized that he was, in fact, their ancestor and the species devolved into what we know them as.
And then there are the stars of the show, the dinosaurs! Many recurring dinos are given names by the Marshalls...
Grumpy is the name given to the Tyrannosaurus that nearly ate them in the opening credits. Holly suspects the reason Grumpy hangs out near their cave is due to a nearby plant that has a mild narcotic effect on dinosaurs.
Spike is the name given to the Triceratops
Dopey is the baby Brontosaurus that the Marshalls have somewhat domesticated and use as an occasional mount or pack animal
Finally, Big Alice is the Allosaurus that lives near the ruins the Sleestaks call home.
Though the effects aren’t even close to good by today’s standards (and, to be honest, not that great even in the 70s) they were a far cry better than the rest of the Krofft lineup (and the stop-motion animation of the dinosaurs was pretty good for children’s programming).
There was a lot of “lost technology” in the show as well, including mysterious pylons with control panels with crystals as controls that create strange effects.
After two seasons, Spencer Milligan (who played Rick Marshall) decided to leave the show (the rumor is he was upset about not getting any residuals from his likeness on Land of the Lost merchandising). Maybe he should’ve hired Yogurt as his agent...
youtube
(Thanks to Ewout ter Hoeven)
However, the show was still successful, so...
youtube
(Thanks to GameBoyFreak14)
Rick Marshall had somehow triggered a dimensional rift while experimenting in a pylon. This had three effects...
1. Rick was pulled through the rift. Optimistically, it sent him back to Earth, but his ultimate fate is never actually revealed.
2. A similar rift opens near the spot the Marshalls originally fell through. Coincidentally, Rick’s brother Jack was searching for the family (or more likely, given it had been 2 years, their bodies) and was similarly pulled through.
3. The rifts caused a localized earthquake that collapsed the cave the Marshalls called home and scattered the Pakuni. Will, Holly, Cha-ka, and Uncle Jack found refuge in a nearby temple.
This season also saw some more fantastic dinosaurs, including a two-headed creature and one that could breathe fire!
The series was revived in by Nickelodeon in 1991, but I never saw it so can’t comment. For completeness sake, here’s that intro...
youtube
(Thanks to SlayerMatt69)
I will say I find it interesting that they traded in the raft for an SUV (and it survived the fall). Also, the theme suffers from what happens in a lot of 90s themes: the music is so over-produced and the lyrics are so rushed you can’t understand a damn thing they’re saying.
In any event, I imagine it’s still far better than the movie...
If anyone has any requests for episodes, let me know!

Tiny fandom, does anyone know if Lymond’s vocal range is stated in canon? QP somewhere?
If not, do any musical Lymond fans have strong opinions on what range he’d have?*
*nb my interest is in pop/rock singing because of fic reasons, but I’m interested in your classical/canon thoughts, too!
I’m leaning tenor baritone, because tenor seems the most versatile pop voice, but the richer timbre of baritone also maybe gives singers a bit more...idk, more of an edge? Bowie and Patrick Wolf are two firm HCs of mine for Lymond’s pop/rock voice and both are called baritone by the (imperfect) Wiki pages for the non-classical singers with these ranges.
Secondary question: would this make Gabriel a bass, or just a different kind of baritone?
Thanks for your help/opinions,
yours,

For my friends in the Nakamichi Audiophile Group: I used good old Maxell Type II cassette tapes for this live recording date I personally recorded on my Nakamichi 550, which I am the original owner purchaser of - I plunked down $550 cash for my Nak at Harvey Electronics on W. 45th Street NYC in 1976 - I made this recording with 3 Sennheiser microphones placed around the bandstand in the Ellington Room - the tune "No X-Cess Baggage Blues" I wrote for my friends at PIA Pakistan International Airlines - they very kindly let me take excess baggage on numerous flights I made with them out of John F. Kennedy International Airport - when you play Hammond Organ, it's impossible to travel light. I go way back with all of these fine musicians - that's Chuggy Carter on the percussion - Ray Grappone drums - Joe Berger aka Joe Berger2 in the string section on his custom built JJ Guitars - tenor saxophonist Todd Anderson, Todd was my teacher for arranging and composition back in 1973 at the Berklee College of Musicin Beantown MA - Todd is also on my very first album 'Late Rent' one ofNew York's finest - all these cats are veteran players and studio musicians, and I have been around the block a few times myself - yours' truly Jon Hammond at my 1959 Hammond B3 organ and covering the bass as well - through my custom built Bill Beer super high-power Leslie speaker with all JBLspeaker and horn components - enjoy! *Note: When I'm talking, the audiois back to the vid tape - I just plugged an SM-58 in to a little Fender Amp Can battery powered amp - back to basics and analog, big thanks to Willy Hermann Services William Hermann Jr. got my intermittent left channel working! - Jon Hammond Band- the "Blend Mic" '3rd channel' Nakamichi system gives a unique 3 dimensional sound to live audio recordings - that's why even today the old Grateful Dead heads crave these machines - can't beat it - and you get real good at flipping cassettes! - JH

Pretty sure that “the Music” of Shibuya is actually a fanon term and not referenced once in the actual games. I just double-checked and can find literally nothing on the wiki referencing it, nor do I remember it from the games
The rest of the music references are totally valid, and if you want to go further, the different types of Noise (and even Reapers!) are named after musical terms (usually genres for Noise like Bigbanfrog = Big Band music and range for Reapers i.e. Bass, Baritone, and Tenor)
It would not surprise me if there was a TWEWY connection (especially thanks to Yozora/Shinjuku)
But you know... TWEWY--that was in DDD, and maybe hinted at eventually having a presence in KH again, with KHIII's secret ending--has a lot to do with music (it was even almost a rhythm game). The consistency of people's souls is called "the Music", especially multiple souls of a city together, and if there's something off in the Music/someone's Music, Noise (Heartless-like creatures are born), and people will continue to feel off until they're defeated. And important people in that world are called Conductors, Composers, and Producers. Neku also loves music and prefers to wear headphones the whole game. And I think that's what the soundtrack is supposed to be. I wonder if TWEWY could tie into Melody of Memory somehow.

Omg! I was the anon who asked about evoking emotions but my phone must have ate up part of what I typed because I was asking about LOUIS! Ugh! I agree with all that you said about songwriting for harry. I was wondering what you thought of louis' *
*influences and style. Like it’s rock ballady. And his voice is my favorite even if it isn’t always the most consistent b/c he can put so much emotion into it. Even in JHO, there’s a lot going on. I’m no vocal expert but I love the energy and emotion behind it. I think he was a bit pitchy live but once he settled in, he was great. Do you? Was this in a higher key than 1D songs so better suited for him? I’d love to know your thoughts about any aspect of Louis’ singing/writing tbh. Thanks!
ANSWER:
Confession: the very first 1D song I ever liked was Night Changes. The second song I ever liked was Fool’s Gold. I couldn’t even believe this was the same band that sang “Rock Me” or “Summer Love” (another confession: I thought Rock Me was the dumbest, most obnoxious song, but I’ve been converted! I think it’s a hilarious song and I love it).
What was the overlap between Night Changes and Fool’s Gold? There were NOT THAT MANY LOUIS SOLOS. I was not a Louis fan. I thought he could not sing in tune in concerts and was the weak link in 1D, and before I knew anything else about him, I thought it was just embarrassing that someone who toured so much couldn’t sing in tune.
I gradually changed my mind when I heard more and more 1D songs, especially after Project No Control. I saw and heard how well Louis could sing when he was at his best.
The voice is really extraordinary. He has a unique voice that just happens to contrast beautifully with the other voices in the band. Remember when a fan told him, “You make One Direction sound so good!” There’s a lot of objectivity to back that up.
Louis’s tessatura (the comfort range for his singing voice) is higher than the other boys’. Just Hold On is in the key of B major. There are almost no other 1D songs in that key, because it’s too high for the others. Fans were astounded by his octave leap in Love You Goodbye, but the high note is actually well within Louis’s comfort range. He could do this note in his sleep.
Love You Goodbyehttps://youtu.be/CUTQNnK1aa4Louis solo at 2:00
The other thing about Louis’s voice is how close to a pure tone it is. A pure tone is a pure frequency that doesn’t exist in nature (like the sound from a tuner). I talked before about how a gravelly voice like Harry’s has a lower harmonic-to-noise ratio. Louis’s voice is the opposite. It has a lot less noise.
In technical terms, Louis could be considered a leggero tenor (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenor)– his voice is the vocal equivalent of Peter Pan: light, flexible, rings like a bell, defies gravity. There’s no weight or tension to it.
Now, the way that Louis expresses emotion is really cool. He does a little vocal fry in the back of his throat, where his consonants tend to settle. It sounds like he’s just swallowed a laugh or choked back a cry–sometimes he talks like this in interviews, as well. I’ve written about how Louis shortens his vowels when singing, so that the consonants bunch together. At the same time, the consonants he pronounces are sharp and clear (a Yorkshire trait? I’m not English so I don’t know); he enunciates so much better than Zayn, for instance. Listen to the short solo here, and how expressive it is– all done in the back of the throat.
Walking in the Wind https://youtu.be/uSOOjzPwjekLouis solo verse 1:28
The pure tones and the leggero, light, flying quality of Louis’s voice (@tositandadmire calls it Louis’s “lightning voice”) contrasts so beautifully with a raspy, heavier, more belty voice like Harry’s. I mean, it’s soundgasm when you put their voices together. It’s no secret that Louis sings a lot of second verses on 1D songs– because of the contrast and because of his unique qualities.
Truly Madly Deeply https://youtu.be/-5EMaf-BXhAHarry and Louis’s chorus start at 0:40
I agree Louis was not in tune singing Just Hold On live, but honestly, I wasn’t listening for technique at that point. I could barely hear anything over the sound of my ugly sobbing. It was amazing to see his courage, to have him swallow his grief and sing the whole thing, and to start strong and end strong. Sometimes I think when people sing live, especially if there’s loud background accompaniment, it’s hard to hear one’s own voice in the in-ears. Often I hear the entire band singing a bit flat live or in concert. I can’t condemn them because it’s so hard to hear accurately.
Last, I think Louis’s voice can sound very intimate–like he’s not singing as much as whispering to you, or telling a secret. The beginning of Just Hold On sounds like that. When he sings, “Wish that you could build a time machine,” it’s a confession for something so desperately wished for, but unrealistic. The disappointment, the sadness, the wistful quality comes through in the harsh gasp of a whisper.
Thank you for the great ask.

Hee Haw TV Show's Roy Clark Remembered in Nashville Interview with Jon Hammond

Roy Clark Television Interview With Jon Hammond
by
Jon Hammond
Roy Clark Television Interview with Jon Hammond just before Roy appeared on the American Eagle Awards in Nashville Tennessee during Summer NAMM Show - Roy Clark an American Living Legend and long-time member of The Grand Ole Opry and The Country Music Hall of Fame - Roy's wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Clark Roy Linwood Clark (born April 15, 1933) is an American country music musician and performer. He is best known for hosting Hee Haw, a nationally televised country variety show, from 1969 to 1992. Roy Clark has been an important and influential figure in country music, both as a performer and helping to popularize the genre. During the 1970s, Clark frequently guest-hosted for Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show and enjoyed a 30-million viewership for Hee Haw. Clark is highly regarded and renowned as a guitarist and banjo player, and is also skilled on classical guitar and several other instruments. Although he has had hit songs as a pop vocalist (e.g., "Yesterday, When I Was Young" and "Thank God and Greyhound"), his instrumental skill has had an enormous effect on generations of bluegrass and country musicians. He has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry, since 1987[1][2] and The Country Music Hall of Fame. BIOGRAPHY: Born in Meherrin, Virginia, Clark lived as a teenager in southeast Washington, D.C., where his father worked at the Washington Navy Yard. At 14, Clark began playing banjo, guitar, and mandolin, and by age 15 he had already won two National Banjo Championships[3] and world banjo/guitar flatpick championships. He was simultaneously pursuing a sporting career, first as a baseball player and then as a boxer, before dedicating himself solely to music. At 17, he had his first appearance on the Grand Ole Opry. At the age of 23, Clark obtained his pilot's license and then bought a 1953 Piper Tri-Pacer (N1132C), which he flew for many years. This plane was raffled off on December 17, 2012, to benefit the charity Wings of Hope.[4] He has owned other planes, including a Mitsubishi MU-2, Stearman PT-17[5] and Mitsubishi MU-300 Diamond 1A bizjet.[6] By 1955, he was a regular on Jimmy Dean's Washington, D.C., television program. Dean, who valued punctuality among musicians in his band, the Texas Wildcats, fired Clark for habitual tardiness, telling him, "You're the most talented person I've ever fired." Clark married Barbara Joyce Rupard on August 31, 1957.[7] In 1960, Clark went out to Las Vegas, where he worked as a guitarist in a band led by former West Coast Western Swing bandleader-comedian Hank Penny. During the very early 1960s, he was also prominent in the backing band for Wanda Jackson—known as the Party Timers—during the latter part of her rockabilly period.[8] When Dean was tapped to host The Tonight Show in the early 1960s, he asked Clark to appear, introducing him to a national audience for the first time. Subsequently, Clark appeared on The Beverly Hillbillies as a recurring character (actually two: he played businessman Roy Halsey and Roy's mother, Myrtle). Once, on an episode of the Sunday evening Jackie Gleason Show dedicated to country music, Clark played a blistering rendition of "Down Home". Later, he appeared on an episode of The Odd Couple wherein he played "Malagueña".[9] In 1963, Clark signed to Capitol Records and had three top ten hits. He switched to Dot Records and again scored hits. He later recorded for ABC Records, which had acquired Dot, and MCA Records, which absorbed the ABC label. Clark as "Myrtle Halsey" on The Beverly Hillbillies, 1968. In the mid '60s, he co-hosted, along with Buck Owens, a weekday daytime country variety series for NBC entitled "Swingin' Country", which was cancelled after two seasons. In 1969, Clark and Buck Owens were the hosts of Hee Haw. The show was dropped by CBS Television in 1971 but continued to run in syndication for twenty-one more years. During its tenure, Clark was a member of the Million Dollar Band and participated in a host of comedy sketches. In 1983, Clark opened the Roy Clark Celebrity Theatre in Branson, Missouri, becoming the first country music star to have his own venue there, thus beginning a trend which led to Branson becoming a center of live music performance, as it is today. Many of the celebrities who play in Branson first performed at the Roy Clark Celebrity Theatre. Clark frequently played in Branson during the 1980s and 1990s. He has since sold the venue (now owned by the Hughes Brothers and renamed the Hughes American Family Theatre) and gone back to a fairly light touring schedule, which usually includes a performance with Ramona Jones and the Jones Family Band at their annual tribute to Clark's old Hee Haw co-star Grandpa Jones in Mountain View, Arkansas.[citation needed] In addition to his musical skill, Clark has often displayed his talents as a comedian and actor. During his years on Hee Haw, Clark entertained with numerous comedy sketches, including a recurring feature where he played the clerk of the "Empty Arms Hotel". Clark released several albums of his comedic performances, to varying critical acclaim and commercial success. Clark is one of the few surviving regular male cast members from the show.[citation needed] Clark has endorsed Mosrite, Gretsch, and many other brands of guitars during his career. He currently endorses Heritage Guitars, which makes a Roy Clark model. On August 22, 1987, Clark was made a member of the Grand Ole Opry. He plays an annual benefit concert at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, the proceeds of which go to fund scholarships for aspiring musicians.[citation needed] For many years Clark has made his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Roy Clark Elementary School in Tulsa's Union School District was named in his honor in 1978. Fellow Oklahoma resident Mickey Mantle arranged for Clark to sing "Yesterday When I Was Young" at his funeral (which Clark did in 1995).[10] On May 17, 2009, Clark was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame along with Barbara Mandrell and Charlie McCoy. On September 23, 2010, Clark sang "God Bless America" during the seventh-inning stretch at Dodger Stadium in a game featuring the Los Angeles Dodgers versus the San Diego Padres. On April 12, 2011, Clark was honored by the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He will be honored by the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame as Oklahoma's Music Ambassador for Children and will be presented with a commendation from Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin.
