We talk all the time about how dense the detail and love in Tristamp is (which is true and deeply deserved, the work they put into twelve episodes is insane), but honestly, when you read Trimax you get exactly how they got there. There are new details and depth to discover in each reread, the emotional layers are so complex for each character’s arc and each moment. The worldbulding is incredibly silly at times, but it’s all in an effort to progress the weight of themes and characters and just plain feeling. And as you change and grow and live, how you view the events and feel about the series shifts so dramatically with you. This is true in all stories, but there’s something so resonate with the human condition in Trimax, and it speaks so deeply to you, that it’s more apparent than in anything else I’ve ever read.

last song: Kelsey Woods, Distant Cowboy - Erase me Kinda hard to tell my last song as I am listening to music 24/7, but this was on when I started writing this

last book: Throne of Jade by Naomi Novik (Temeraire 2.) I gave it 4/5 stars, the middle part on the ship was very hard for me to get through, but the China part and Chinese dragon society was just ~something~

last movie: I'll be honest, I don't know. Not a movie person.

last tv show: Not a tv show person either. I promised someone to watch Arcane S2 together but that is yet to happen.

sweet/savory/spicy: I like having my things balanced? Too sweet is bad, too savory is bad, my stomach can't handle spice, so. Heh. Also it varies from day to day

I kind of carry on with RDR2's themes of the law not always equalling morality or inherently "good" character with Chickadee, and include that in her story. She's basically a character who was at the wrong place and the wrong time, gets trapped in some legal trouble, and is stuck and kinda demonized for it and ends up changed as a result.

I use her to kinda connect themes of like, intergenerational trauma: I make her the greatx4 granddaughter of my OC Storm-Woman (who, while is alive when colonization is taking place, hasn't personally encountered it or ever met a white person before, and so she's unaffected and is essentially living pre-colonially) and the greatx4 grandmother of another OC Regina (who lives in the future, and is a big influence and figure of healing from intergenerational trauma, she's a jingle dress dancer who's a scientist and a nurse). So Chickadee exists, unfortunately, as the point where that intergenerational trauma starts (not necessarily BECAUSE of her alone, but that generation) because of colonialism.

She's originally from Canada, illegally crosses the border, kills the racist Indian agent who catches her, and then ends up in jail in the U.S. After breaking out just like RDR2O sets up, she primarily hunts and sells the pelts for money trying to get back home and is stuck for a while. She becomes a cowboy!! it's no joke though. She also finds a posse who become her makeshift family, mostly made up of Latinos who teach her a bit of Spanish, plus a Chinese-American named Jin (who Chickadee calls Cin ᒋᐣ bc she has a hard time saying J's lol) she adopts as a sister. Eventually her biological sister comes and finds her in the U.S, and Chickadee sends some money with them, and then returns home a couple years later. In an alternate verse I have, she has a baby with Sean and brings the baby with her lol. By the time she tries to tell him they had a kid, he has died. Despite all that, she does eventually get a happy ending
