I remember discussing Tintin casting choices with a friend from Germany and remarked how it was odd he often has an English accent in adaptations rather than a Belgian one, and my friend just replied "that's because Tintin gives incredibly strong English boy energy (derogatory)"

Here in the UK there's a lot of weird classism tied into accents. Today accent diversity and representation in broadcasting is actively pursued but in Tintin's time there certainly was a preferred accent to have.

doodled your little guys!!! I have so many thoughts about them. As someone who lives in Italy it has been absolutely wonderful seeing your characters express the country's culture and history!!! It's not often that I see characters be based off Italian history in such an artistic manner.. But that might be me living under a rock, LOL. Anyhow, keep doing what you do, YOU ROCK!!!!

Ohoho-- do I? Yes, yes I do. First of all, glad you liked it! ( if anyone interested the fic is @cirrus-grey 's Not quite a tale as old as time ) If you like fairy-tale re-tellings, I suggest Beastly Behaviour by Prim_the_Amazing -also based on Beauty and a Beast.

Other, generally fantasy fic, I finished not to long ago and loved was @callmearcturus 's fic dustsceawung (with moth fae Jon)

Releasing Nimona on the last day of pride month 2023 was such a great move because it’s a really needed piece of media right now. Lots of countries that legalised gay marriage years ago have been grappling with this rising TERF narrative of “if you’re gay it’s whatever but if you’re trans, non-binary or gender non-conforming in some way you’re a PERVERT! A MONSTER trying to GROOM CHILDREN!” The outrage against simple things like pronouns and drag events, and the movement against gender affirming healthcare have reached a terrifying peaks for contemporary times.

So a kid’s movie set in a fictional country with controlling government officials with personal agendas, with an openly gay couple but also a shape-shifting kid who cannot even be afford to be out is our reality in the US today. Nimona’s feelings about her vibe, body and form, her insistence that she is only “Nimona” no matter what she looks like and her aversion to “small-minded questions” together forms such a beautiful allegory about trans, genderfluid individuals.

Ballister asks her to be a girl, but for whose sake? It’s only for the comfort of people who refuse to understand her, and would rather see her die than let her be herself. And it’s this widespread rejection and loneliness that has eventually made Nimona indifferent to pain, that makes her feel suicidal.

In the end, it is another member of the LGBTQ+ community that truly sees and accepts Nimona for who she is. And that should be a reminder that we cannot let them divide us. Trans people stood up for the rest of us and made historical change happen, and we need to do the same for them. Besides, cis queer people are only the “good ones” until they’re done with trans people and then will turn on us.

Getting Lost

(part 1...maybe?)

He gets lost. He dives into the ocean of color and sound that is his mind. Here there is no crowd, no little hands tapping on the windows for his attention, no loudspeakers announcing what humans called a "show" or monitors giving him orders to do somersaults to entertain the audience. Here there was only him and infinity.

Nothing was limited, in this space that belongs only to him, he is free. Then he thinks, he sees the world, thinks back to the past. He sees the water again, not the one in his pool, but the one that tastes like salt, the one that is never still, the one that like him does not stop, the one that forever holds the memory of his childhood. It is over there that his cradle is, over there that the world begins, because here it is not the world, because here is limited, here his body fits between four walls, immersed in filtered water and rocked by the sound of the pump hidden behind the concrete.

So in this small part of infinity, he opens a new door and loses himself in his own universe. He tells himself that if he thinks hard enough, if he gets lost far away, the sound of the pump will become that of the whales, that if he continues to dive, the tiles at the bottom of his prison will start to move like the algae of yesteryear... To stop being bored, to drown his sorrow and forget the heaviness of his fins, he gets lost.

In his world of noise and lights, nothing was and everything was at the same time, human languages were refined and distorted into familiar clicks and songs that made him think that maybe home wasn't so far away.....

And then he was taken out again, infinity moved away through an invisible harness that was once very real and left only the cage.

The day had just begun, and an uncomfortable feeling crept into him. The atmosphere was heavy, waiting for something, the humans seemed more excited than usual and they posted on the windows of his pool: "Jazz the orca will be absent today but will return soon with brand new tricks!".

Absent? Absent why? Did they want to make him undergo medical examinations? Make him learn new pirouettes so that the entries increase? No matter the plan of the humans, it made his mind disturbed and troubled. He could not get lost, not return to his world where time no longer counts. No, here he was waiting, he was spinning, he knew that his part of infinity would change for maybe the best, but more likely for the worst.

In Regards To Your 2024 Summary:

Holy shit it’s been another year????? The hell?????

Also! Your art style is gorgeous and that being found in 2023 and then refined throughout late 2023 and the entirety of 2024 really shows, as does your growth in panel layouts, perspective, and — as you said — experimentation. If you ever post your animation or video game art I’m looking forward to it.

As cheesy as it sounds, being able to laugh at funny comics and look at all the details of your art really made my 2024 brighter, even when things were hard. Including looking at your older art— it doesn’t need to be new to be enjoyable! I’m glad your art is well loved and it’s a privilege to have been here since the (near) beginning. I hope you take care of yourself in 2025 and beyond!

You and your art bring a lot of people a lot of joy never forget that <3

Thank you so much for keeping up with my art journey throughout these last two years! Two years!!! I am baffled at how that feels both too long and too short!

Admittedly, my art summary didn't manage to capture the fact that I did a lot of comic layouts that I'm really proud of. I also drew more backgrounds and made some very detailed works (*Dungeon Meshi spoilers for these examples*).

The growth is lot more evident when comparing my 'best' comics of 2023 to 2024:

Sometimes the growth is vertical, sometimes it is horizontal - and damn, sometimes it goes out of sight into the Z-plane. But it is always happening!

Theory kind of? Or at least a possible explanation for why Mychael is hostile to his own species.

It's both instinctual and personal.

Mushrooms do three things well:

1. Stay in place.

2. Eat a lot.

3. Multiply.

We don't know a lot about #3 yet, but throughout the game #1 and #2 have been stressed to be something Mychael cares about deeply.

1. His cabin. A place he worked very hard to call him home after all these long years. His safe space. "Finally permanent, for once."

2. Him cooking. His cooking has always been something I loved about him, and he clearly takes pride in it as well (as he should,) and the game makes it a point to show how good at it he is. And of course, how much he enjoys eating.

When different mushroom species interact, sometimes it can lead to chemical warfare where one species releases toxins that are harmful to the other, so they could have as much nutrients and territory as possible without competition.

Mychael is a mushroom, somehow. So it wouldn't be too big of a stretch to say he's got the instincts of one.

So imagine your instincts telling you to stay rooted in one place, but you're forced to run, hide, and flee for your life. Imagine they tell you to eat, but due to all the running, you've got to get by just on what you can scavange up. How many years has he spent like that? Decades, maybe? More?

Then he finally had it. He had a place to call his own, a safe harbor he poured blood, sweat, and tears to. In this harbor, he's free to do what he wants, eat what he wants. He finally started to live rather than just survive.

But then there are the rival mushrooms, coming into HIS home, HIS part of the forest, threatening HIS livelihood (somehow? Maybe?) Which he's spent so long trying to achieve. I'd hate them, too.

For Mychael, it isn't just instinctual. It's personal. We've only seen him react to the mushroom ring, though. How bad would he react if it was another grown member of his species like him?

He calls them an "invasive species," but would that mean he is as well? They're clearly related somehow.

He has this "Will of the forest" attitude about him, but as a mushroom (or... plant or,,,, something) himself, wouldn't he be a part of that will? There's a clear distinction between himself and the forest, as the forest provides, and he consumes.

Also, to say that I love your characters. The first time I found them I saw one picture of their feral art and I saw Machete and instantly thought "like my dogs!" because I am a volunteer at a dog shelter where we have a lot of spanish greyhounds (which aren’t exactly like him but a bit similar).
