the funeral was silent. the remaining members of the guard opted for that, offering up their presence but that was about it. but even the lack of comfort was appreciated by the four standing closest to the makeshift grave.

it felt wrong to bury atiena in the outskirts, seeing as how she had essentially made mwezi miji the home it is today. so, the guard opted to bury nothing, leaving behind a marking made of two nearby sticks and twine that allowed people to mourn before the village mourned together.

or maybe their reason was to give nuru some way to mourn before being pushed into the limelight.

the boy hadn't stopped shaking, even when you pulled him up from the ground, away from atiena's body. in fact, he seemed to tremble more the moment he buried his face in your neck. maybe the increased shaking was also because you were trembling all the same.

even now, the two of you, well four if you counted the twins, continued to tremble, your sobs wracking your body and mixing with the rain that had rolled in a few minutes ago.

it was so cold.

in hindsight, you were thankful that the remaining members of the guard stood back. they didn't have to hear nuru's pained gasps and cries, preserving the image of atiena's legacy being passed on to her strong-willed son.

but to you and the twins, you saw nuru for who he really was in that moment.

a boy, no older than 14 years old, had just lost his mother in one of the cruelest ways possible. in your arms, curled up and leaking snot and tears, was a boy who had been reduced to a baby crying for his mother that would never return, no matter how much he prayed to the gods.

jabori, much like nuru, had been crying in jabali's arms right behind you and nuru. jabali, on the other hand, stood tall, tears still falling down his cheeks, but his expression as cold as ice. you knew the moment he was in the comforts of his room, he would break down.

atiena truly had been a mother and a caretaker to everyone, but especially to you four.

it took nuru a few more minutes to pull himself together. he managed to do it, but remnants of his breakdown were still evident on his face. when you pulled him up from the ground, you wiped away some lingering tears with your thumbs, muttering comfort under your breath as his wings naturally folded around you.

he took one last look at you, his eyes still glassy and red, before taking a deep breath and letting his wings relax behind him. he scooped the mask and jacket that had been stripped from atiena, holding them both close to his chest. he took another deep breath, one to hold himself together, and stood tall, mimicking the same stance his mother had taken time and time again.

"it's time to go home," he ordered, pointing at a few guard members before pointing back down at atiena's body, which had been laying under a tree to avoid the rain. "careful with the escorting of the body. any scratch that comes to he-- it... will be responsible for desecrating an honored body."

"...yes, sir!" the guards echoed in response, hurrying over to hoist atiena's body up.

there was no surprise that the guard quickly adapted to the new "leader" with no hesitation. it was expected that he would take up the title as the next guardian, but it was bittersweet knowing that that time had come too soon.

"(name). jabali. jabori," nuru turned back to the three of you, his eyes downcast as he began replacing his old fur cloak with his mother's. "i trust you three will stay by my side."

"... of course," you nodded, earning a twitch of a smile from nuru. the twins muttered affirmations behind you, still quiet from the brief funeral.

"we'll get back at the dens," nuru promised, looking down at the mask as if speaking to it. "they won't get away with what they've done."

the moment the new guard stepped foot in mwezi miji, the villagers gathered together as if they had already known something bad had happened. the second their eyes landed on atiena's body, still preserved as if she had only been sleeping, the village erupted into a flurry of cries and screams.

the elders, the ones who knew atiena since she had arrived, silently cried for the young woman who singlehandedly defended the village all those years ago.

the children, the ones who had looked up to atiena since they were born, wailed and sobbed openly as if they had truly lost their parents.

you hated walking through the village with atiena's body only a few feet away. it felt wrong.

you truly thought that atiena was invincible. it turned out she was to everything and everyone except her own magic.

when her body was laid on a blanket offered up by the elders, it seemed as if the gods themselves had damned her the moment she died. her body, which already lost its wings until only the bones remained, began to turn black. it looked as if the shadows she had fought in were now consuming her, swallowing her whole to drag her down to the darkest depths.

"m..." nuru seemed to say something but he bit his tongue, holding back any cry he had building up inside. and you knew exactly why.

one look around and you could tell the villagers were horrified. nuru must have noticed that fact too.

"stand back!" was what he managed to say, pushing a few children behind him. atiena's body only seemed to endure the sensation for a few minutes, but in those minutes, nuru had an urge that he couldn't bury.

he rushed forward in a second, his hands clasped around what remained of atiena's arm. and in that moment, the shadows that were consuming her latched onto nuru.

"shit!" you were the next to move, pulling nuru away from atiena's body. he thrashed around in your arms crying out that he needed to do something. you didn't care that he was crying now or that he was practically begging for you to let him go, nor did you care about the fact that the black substance had begun burning your skin alongside his. all you cared about was making sure nuru was as far from the body as he could be.

he let out an ear-piercing shriek when he managed to claw at his face, the black substance burning his eye away until all that remained was a solid black line down his face and his eye seemed to permanently glaze over.

"nuru!" you called out to him, kicking at his flailing legs. "listen to me!"

"ma!" he cried out to atiena once more, his hands now clawing at the sand underneath him. "let me go! ma!"

"she's gone, nuru!" jabali was quick to join you in restraining nuru, grabbing at his shoulders and pushing him into the ground. "c'mon, man! get a hold of yourself!"

"ma! ma!"

that was the last time you saw nuru. well, that version of nuru, anyway. the little boy you had grown up with was gone once he managed to calm down that day.

he had to grow up that day and you did too. the future of mwezi miji had been dropped into your hands the moment atiena died. the moment nuru was made the next guardian was when you and the twins had to catch up to his maturity.

no longer would you have long nights and short mornings because nuru was too energetic to sleep and too tired to wake up. no longer would the twins be at your door to wake you two up, complaining about how nuru, the son of the beloved guardian, was the worst at being on time for patrol.

no longer would you get to be children at the young age of 14 years old. well, now you all were 16, so time had really forced you to grow up.

one look at your closest companions was enough to tell you just how quick time had caught up to you all.

nuru still had his fluffy hair, just like it was when you first met him. the feathers that were stuck in his hair all those years ago were now neatly groomed instead of all over the place. his little fur cloak was now more akin to a shawl, connected in the middle by a string. his wings grew just like his mother's, spanning out wider than you had ever thought they would. his scar from the final moments that nuru was, well nuru, seemed to grow alongside him. his eye, however, was now fully missing. he told you it was because of whatever atiena's magic was had finally eaten away at it.

but you knew full well that he had gouged it out himself.

the twins still retained most of their features, unlike nuru who seemed to outright change himself entirely. they still had the freckles dusting their face and their cream-tipped locks curling around their face. the main difference was that they had garnered more scars and muscle as the days went on. mostly jabali, as expected of the more rambunctious twin.

and then there was you. gods, did you even resemble your brothers anymore? your hands were now dyed black, almost rivaling the shadows that burned at atiena's body that day. it didn't hurt for the most part, luckily. it only tingled every now and then or even just the occasional stabbing pain as if a spear had been driven through it.

but, for the most part, it was bearable.

"you two are on patrol now," you instructed the two new guards, motioning over to two older guards standing a few feet away. "go relieve them from their post. they're responsible for checking in with jabori to report any findings."

"of course," the two guards nodded, hurriedly walking towards their new post. the night was quiet, the same as it always was. the dens seemed to fully retreat after their leader had vanished that night, much to your relief and anger.

you were more so relieved because nuru didn't have a chance to enact revenge. you knew that, given that chance, he would kill someone and probably die trying.

you couldn't stand the thought of that.

you were fine with dying yourself if it meant nuru would live. besides, that would be the best outcome, right? nuru was the guardian now, so he had to be here to take care of mwezi miji. the twins were also more valuable than you with jabali providing physical protection and jabori providing intelligence.

what did you offer? you were just some no-good runaway royal that happened to find refuge in the village.

yeah, the best outcome would be for you to--

"(name)!" one of the guards you had just sent to patrol called, hurriedly waving to you.

"what is it?" when you reached their post, you were greeted with a black carriage. you stood there for a moment before muttering, "oh... right."

"what if it's the dens again?" one of the guards whimpered, prompting you to shake your head.

"no, no, it's not the dens," you reassured, waving the guard off. "go get nuru and the twins."

you could have sworn you agreed to not enroll.

"the hell is this, nuru?!" jabali voiced what you were thinking, granted with less tact than you would have asked. jabali held up the letter, still crinkled from being crumpled up into a ball. "why the hell did you accept the enrollment?!"

"jabali--"

"nuru, as much as we trust your judgment, why are we leaving?" you added, earning a nod from jabori. "i mean, we need to be here to take care of mwezi miji. who's gonna take our place for the entire four years we'd be out?"

"(name), jabali," nuru called to the two of you, his hands folded neatly in front of him. "i would not have accepted the enrollment for us if i didn't have a plan."

"what'll happen if we leave and the dens come back? what if we're not here to take care of everyone?" jabori asked cautiously.

"i scouted the dens before i made this decision," nuru explained, stretching out his wings. "they seemed to have dwindled since we last fought. i doubt they'd be back. and even if they did, i have an agreement with the headmaster that we will leave as soon as possible in order to protect everyone."

"why didn't you consult us?!"

"because i knew you would all disagree." a somber smile made its way onto his face. the expression was rare, but there were moments where nuru, the real one, seemed to come back. "there is a reason why i would like to go to night raven college."

"and why's that?"

"it is known for housing and cultivating young mages. if we were to go..." nuru's eyes drifted over to the bird mask sitting on the table. "...we might find an answer."

"nuru..."

"so please," he pressed his forehead against his hands, "come with me. i can't... i can't do this alone."

you and the twins all shared a glance. the only sound that accompanied you was the distant neighing of the black horses pulling the carriage outside.

Lol that wasn't me but I will let you know when I post on AO3 and credit you. I have a bad habit of jumping around a lot in my writing so it might be a while. Here is a bit from much later that might have to be cut. It features 8 year old Percy and children's fantastic ability to remember complex terms and apply them in the funniest ways possible:

"Percy stared at the man before her. He looked young, with a face she believed would make any of the old ladies from the apartments coo if they saw him. However, pinchable cheeks were probably not a judged criteria when taking the exams to become a doctor. The lady at the department of health office had said that "Medicaid does not cover elective work" and Percy was not even sure they had insurance now that they lived outside the US. Medical debt was a serious issue and would probably spawn paperwork more difficult for Mom to handle than any monster or weird relative. Smiling politely, she said “So are you a pediatrician? What program did you graduate from? Where was your residency and how many years have you been practicing for?”

The man's face was now frozen and Percy decided to press onward continuing “What insurance providers do you accept? I was on Medicaid previously but that won’t apply anymore with the move so you will have to get the new information from my mother. Along with my medical history which would be needed to provide appropriate care.” Pausing and tilting her head racking her brain for more terms she had heard at the real pediatrician’s office, she continued “You did talk to him right? 'Any medical care that is not immediately lifesaving given to minors requires consent from a parent or guardian recognized by the state.' Given my father is not on my birth certificate and has not signed and acknowledgment of paternity his word will not count. If you treat me without mother’s permission billing will be the least of your worries, the medical boards and courts don’t mess around when it comes to unnecessary medical work done on children without parental consent” she finished watching the man’s eyes widen a little more in shock.

However instead of the stuttered backtrack she was expecting, instead Mr. Beelzebub burst into a low and somewhat menacing laugh. With a smile, he said, “To answer your questions, I am not a pediatrician of any kind, I am a researcher specializing in the… hm… how to put it, most unusual of cases, and probably the only god in the three realms capable of treating someone like you.”

“So, you don’t actually know anything,” Percy said folding her arms and feeling rather put out. “And you have no previous experience working with children.” Honestly, she was really starting to wonder what went on in the heads of her father’s family. With a sigh she continued “Uncle Hades, this man is not a real doctor, he sounds like a scammer.”

Normally she tried not to be that blunt (after all mom always said stuff like “discretion was the better part of valor” and all the like) but this was really starting to test her patience. “It is common sense that any strange man offering you free medical treatment in his basement is definitely up to no go. Haven’t you heard of stranger danger? ‘Only trust adults whose credibility can be verified by another safe and trusted adult like your parents’.” She recited while turning to her uncle hoping to see a light of understanding appear in the man’s eyes. Honestly, why did she have to be the adult in this situation? Had these people never seen public television?

Instead, both men broke out into uproarious laughter and Percy considered what the consequences of pelting them both with ice would be. Perhaps if she froze their brains, it would fix whatever mental deficiency they were currently experiencing. Maybe some kind of brain worm?"

The Toonami Trending Rundown for May 31 and June 1-2, 2024. For the first time since April 15, 2004, Toonami would return to airing on a weekday timeslot on Fridays with Toonami Rewind as part of Adult Swim’s expansion to 5pm to showcase classic Cartoon Network programming. The inaugural lineup featured the return of Sailor Moon to Toonami for the first time in 23 years alongside an hour of DBZ Kai and OG Naruto. 

And fans on social media responded very positively to Toonami Rerun’s debut. On Twitter, #ToonamiRewind trended in the USA alongside Sailor Moon and DBZ Kai.

Meanwhile on the regular Toonami late night lineup, Zom 100 returned from its three-week hiatus, and Demon Slayer begun its rerun of the Entertainment District arc in the meantime. In terms of trends, #Toonami trended in the USA on Twitter alongside My Adventures with Superman and Zom 100. #Toonami also trended on Tumblr.

This week’s feature was a game review of Dave the Diver, developed by Mintrocket studios. It received an 8.5 out of 10 score.

Despite the present upheaval at Warner Bros Discovery, the current success of Toonami was paramount to Cartoon Network and Adult Swim creating Toonami Rewind. According to Jason DeMarco on Blue Sky, “It was the network’s idea to try a second Toonami block since they are very happy with the performance of the Saturday night version. They wondered if a throwback Toonami would be interesting. We liked the idea!” And assuming things go well, Jason says he has “all kinds of cool plans to bring more shows in” including shows Toonami has aired in the past, Adult Swim action shows, western animated action classics and more.

Of course, that all depends on if people continue to watch Toonami Rewind every Friday as with regular Toonami every Saturday. So be sure to keep watching (or at least set your DVRs) and help contribute to the social media buzz if you’re into it. okay so (get ready for a long winded explanation of how my writing works sorry in advance)

for wipw, i have sort of a basic outline for plot points and stuff. i know roughly how each of the stories go and how they end. that being said, i have two docs (or more) per au. one with the outline and the other is the draft i'm posting for you guys. like here's the actual docs in my bookmarks (ignore my joke titles okay)

as you can see i've got all my wipw docs in a bookmark folder so i can find them easily. DIH, BB, OG, 🦊, and 🦊WIPW are all writing folders. DIH is a long fic for another fandom. BB stands for 'big bang' and is for all my 'cosmic lost and found' stuff. OG is my ocs stuff :). Fox is anything aftg-related that isn't for wipw. and finally wipw is... wipw.

ALSO 'strips and tags' is the doc where i keep my little 'headings' for wipw posts as well as the tags so i don't have to type that shit everytime! (ex: 'WIP Wednesday (10/25) | Guardian Angel Neil (Part --)'

anyway! i write on them and cut them into chunks for wipw. the size of the 'chunk' each ask gets depends on how well the story flows and if it's a good stopping point. so sometimes it's just a couple paragraphs and sometimes it's almost a full fucking page because i couldn't decide where to chop it?

also usually i like to work a bit ahead so i'm not starting with nothing the next week. so when i don't and i get a lot for a certain au it stresses me out bc i don't know where we're going and i have to come up with it on the fly so i can answer asks??

this is also why i write in order and i could never write bits and pieces here and there all over the timeline like Ash does. it would Stress Me Out sooo bad lol

to answer the actual question: yeah.

for the most part, it's mostly how the final draft will be. but in the final i'll probably flesh out certain bits to make it make sense. like we just Jump into the scene a lot in wipw posts and it makes sense for wipw posts. but it wouldn't in an actual longfic on ao3? you know?

also in angel neil, some of the events are out of order. i never expected people to care about it so much so originally it was gonna be a lotttt shorter so andrew talks to betsy about it right away. i think in the Finished Fic (whenever that will be) he won't mention neil to betsy for a while?? but idk for sure we still have a long ass way to go.

Hey so when you're fighting Rin in the early parts of your playthrough, SSRs dont really do much damage unless they are fully (or partially) built. Thats when they are as leveled up as they can be, with their potential as high as it can go, they are 3 stars or higher, and their intimacy maxed out. Instead, you should upgrade any SRs or Rs, its a lot easier to upgrade or max them out early, because they take up less materials in comparison to your SSRs, especially in intimacy, intimacy is incredibly important because the higher your intimacy the more your units ATK and HP gets boosted, the percentage boosted increases significantly the higher your units intimacy is (plus you get bonus memory shards and raw crystals to upgrade units!). Potential is also important because instead of having to spend gems or contracts to get more units to increase your units stars, (or get memory crystals to do that manually) you can upgrade your units ATK and HP incrementally and maybe get a bonus passive skill after a certain point that can increase the damage your units do, the amount of health they heal, the amount of damage your units can absorb or block, etc. Its great if you have a stockpile of materials after doing any levels or after an exploration, so use that to your advantage when you can.

You should probably work on maxing out some SRs like Morvay and Yakumo when you can so Morvay can take harder hits that can effect all of your team (like on turn 4 and 9) and when Rin ults and Yakumo can heal your team when Morvay can't divert ults (like on turn 5 and 10), also if I remember correctly, og SSR Olivine isnt much of a viable healer early game in comparison to an upgraded Yakumo, but if you can somehow make some of your SSRs fulfill the jobs of a viable early game healer and guardian, thats power to you (that's what I did with my ABO Garu somehow).

Anyway upgrade some of your SRs and Rs if you can, and good luck! The subreddit gets the question of "How do I beat Rin" a bit often, so if you need help, you can always find someone who can help you better than I ever could, and you can probably search a couple of posts with people's teams and team stats so you can figure out what works best for you!

i finally beat rin and its because i had space blade (well thats not the name of it but its what i know of it as) whose ult can both make either the person in 5th position's immediately get ult up or if that person is dead then a random person, AND CAN ALSO HEAL??

which i did not know

i did auto team to see if any diff team comps got any farther and space blade and dante survived and blade kept healing dante (and himself) everytime he got low while also replenishing his ult immediately for next turn which is just. mind blown.

so i switched him to that spot in the other team which kept him, idol blade, and dante alive (i think? morvay died with olivine because hes squishy and also lower leveled then everyone. also i think those 3 have the highest intimacy? yeah both blades are 4/5 and dante's 3/5)

and i started defending if hp low and then attack if hp high and somehow did it and just

im really glad blades my favorite cause its because of that that i tried to make him the strongest that i could and it somehow worked out 😭 (also i think id be stuck on this way longer without space blade too so YIPPEEE)

We know that in the first few lessons lucifer chooses mammon as our guardian even though he and the others explicitly say what a scoundrel he is, which initially is something out of context since according to him he gives the notion that he cares deeply about the program, so why would he choose from all the brothers the one who is most hated?

Further on, there is a situation in which he (lucifer) says that mammon is the one he trusts the most, in addition, we realize during the game that even though mammon is the one who most falls into his sin he is the only demon among his brothers that worries about mc since the beginning of the game.

Even though he threatens and claims mammon is the only one of the brothers who maintains control over the human even if he is not close to it.

Why this? because he is his human!

Okay before you start cursing me and objecting to this thing a little bit, remember my conversation with Spark about the 7 Ogs, remember I said that the previous greed avatar was protective of its people?

Well, it was no secret that the demons of greed are terr protectors and excellent guardians of their precious things they do this so much it became the primordial instinct of this demonic class, knowing that lucifer delivered the human to the avatar of greed because he was relying on his instinct to keep his precious one safe, yeah he was right the first moment he saw the human he started to bully (*cough court*cough) the same he (lucifer) just needed a touch final to remind mammon of the consequences of his failure (punch scene).

ok before you tell me that he was not a great guardian at first because he left mc with Levi, you must remember that mammon knew his brothers and their character and knew that the same (Levi) would not kill the human, in fact, he was relying on the idea of psychological terror to put the human on the line because he despises all his brothers and he knows about the nature of humans and understands how curious and stubborn we are.

So what's the best way to keep a little human in line so he doesn't end up killing himself for some stupid reason? put the said human in contact with a hostile demon (nerd) whose anger can easily be deterred.

Bonus if the said human is as nerdy as the demon, then he doesn't have to worry 24/7 that the human will die around the corner since the Demonerd will try to protect his little human friend.

With that in mind, everyone wins, and if something goes wrong he can just show up and save the day, since he's secretly spying on the human and I'll talk about that in part 2, making the human realize that he was the only one there. save it and keep it close to it.

He is not a saint ok, mammon is a demon of greed, this class is also very good at manipulating and knows how to find flaws in contracts/commands, lucifer ordered him to watch over the human's life, not his sanity.

            Damian stared in quiet horror as he looked over Ladybug’s exploits after hacking into Paris’ servers. His sister—the one he took down with little effort—had been defending the city for a month before he appeared. From the video of “Stoneheart” he could tell she was given no training. And her partner was flirting with her! When he should be focusing on the mission!

             What gathered from further research was the following: his sister and her ‘partner’ were untrained. Their teammates were also untrained. A team of ten untrained teenagers—perhaps younger—were tasked with keeping a villainous coward from stealing their magic artifacts, and with stealing his in turn. A team lead by his sister. A very alone, scared girl from his one interaction with her. Smart (he saw now she knew how to save her own skin. Redirecting his attention was a good move at the time). She is smart and creative because if she isn’t, then her city and her will lose. Be under the control of some madman.

             He had to get there, and he doubted he could convince Jon to help him at the moment—why are kyptonians always fighting one another when you need the assistance of one?

             Father would stop him.

             The League was keeping Father in Gotham and he didn’t have individual access yet…

             He was stuck for the moment, and did not like it. Perhaps Grayson could prove useful? He’d ask once the man was done resting from patrol.

             Cass was enjoying Paris. She spotted the possible sister at the bakery with her adoptive mother. They were happy. Cass likes that.

             Cass moved quickly through the crowd, managing to make it to the bakery.

             Marinette ran into her.

             “Ah! Sorry!” the girl managed to catch her things before they hit the ground.

             Cass waved her hands, indicating there was no harm or foul. The girl was no clumsy—Shifu Cheng was ill-informed. Those reflexes and her expression before indicated nothing but an intense focus on something else. On what, Cass wasn’t sure.

             Yet.

             For now, Cass took a seat in the bakery, smiling at the kind woman working the front. Sabine Cheng, the woman who raised the maybe-Bat.

             Cass began doing her own research, messaging Babs that she saw Soup Girl for a moment, and would be assessing her parents. She knew of cases in Gotham where things weren’t always right, and she wanted to be certain that this girl was safe, regardless of if she’s a Bat or not.

             Tim decided to ignore Babs offer in the end. The possibility of owing Jason was low given both him and Cass are on the Case. Jason is good, don’t get him wrong, but the chances of Jason actually talking to the girl in a real conversation before the rest of them? As Red Hood?

             This is a calculated risk and the odd are in Tim’s favor. (Well, not in Jason's.)

             Steph hummed as she went over the designer pool she was looking over. Shockingly low given its Paris—granted 200 girls is a lot to investigate… she didn’t give the others all the information she had though.

             According to Damian, she “posts a disgusting amount” which means she’s posting or tagged often. When she used some of Babs old filtering program with social media involved, it brought the candidates down to 30. She could go through thirty teenage designers social media and comb over who at least has some genes that are dominant from the Wayne side. Her natural hair had to be medium brunette at the lightest, so the natural blondes took out seven candidates right off the bat. While blue or green eyes would give them more priority on the list, eye color genes are weird. Weirdly, five of her candidates had attached earlobes, so she only had 18 left after that filter was put on… Bruce’s hair isn’t curly, so two girls with intensely curly natural hair were taken off the list. Bruce’s thin lips only knocked out two more candidates.

             That left Stephanie Brown with 14 designers in Paris to find and investigate in the right age range, because she doesn’t think Bruce started having sex at 15, unlike Tim who is allowing college kids into his ‘could be Bruce’s daughter’ mix.

             Stephanie is also going to need a plane ticket to meet these girls, and that means getting help from one of Wayne kids… Or stowing away on the private jet that she knows Tim can and will be using sometime today to do ground work himself.

             She’s cool stowing away—Babs is covering for her on principle since Tim wouldn’t take the deal. Steph was smart enough to relinquish one piece of blackmail in total in exchange for use of Babs filtering tech—she has more than that thanks to one Supergirl spilling a number of things Babs has done over the years. Has Stephanie mentioned she’s the only one of the Bats to listen to Oracle, Queen of Technology, in this bet? She is, and she is better for it.

             Marinette managed to make it to the Agrests Mansion with little issue this time. Today she was going to one of the production lines with Gabriel to learn how to reset the machines and program them to follow any simple stitch pattern she wanted. It was good.

             She also noticed that during none of her times with Gabriel, was there a single akuma sighting. Not an attack—those never happened anywhere near their time together. It was an… interesting pattern. She was beginning to suspect that if Hawkmoth wasn’t Gabriel (he was akumatized, it can’t be him. Get that theory out of your head Marinette), then it had to be someone who worked for him, and high on the food chain.

             She made sure to memorize each of his ‘supervising managers’ and partners’ names. One of them had to be Hawkmoth. And Gabriel had to be someone that this Hawkmoth either really respected or really didn’t want handle re-scheduling with. Which would be all of them…

             She really wished she had more time to dig into their lives herself. For now, she had to trust Max and Markov to do the research… which reminded her, her name had been pinged on multiple searches in Gotham last night. From numerous devices. If the Bats were planning anything…

             Marinette gripped her purse a bit tighter. Her team has her back. She just doesn’t want them caught up in this mess too. She wishes that Aquaman never showed up. If he hadn’t, then the Bats wouldn’t be looking into her civilian life, the one they already knew about but only now deemed worthy of their attention.

             She wished they would just stop—she won’t look into the Great Detectives. She knows she’s not one of them. That she wouldn’t hack it in Gotham. But Damnit, in Paris? Her Territory—she does more than hack it. Sure, she may have blown herself up that one time, and yes, there is the timeline where as Princess Justice she may have sort of broke the world by forcing it to conform to that akumatized version of hers’ idea of Absolute Justice (apparently she was ruthless, made no exceptions and took out a third of the Justice League using Multimouse at the time on top of it all). Yes, she is not a perfect leader. Or hero. But Damnit, her (admittedly two) supervillians have been almost caught twice. Her re-akumatazation rate is much lower than any of the Justice League’s heroes’ normal villain or general crime recidivism rate by more than a little. By a lot. She’s not some Detective but she’s a damn good strategist, a champion at improvising and she and her team do work with the public and victims and reworked so much of Paris’ social culture to lower akuma-creating circumstances and keep the public emotionally healthy.

             She’s no detective.

             She’s a Guardian. That means caring about the details that shift the bigger pieces. That means adaption with what is there and creating what she needs. That means knowing her limits and getting help—to set an example and prove that not even her or Chat are an island. That even superheroes need help, need others and need to work together.

            She’s no detective. Detectives work alone.

            Her? She’s forged a team that (she hopes) could become the new Order of Gaurdians with her… some day. For now, they’re heroes with the same mission and different roles to play.

            Marinette just wishes that she could shut up this hunch since its been disproven. Her instincts on guilt and possible baddies aren’t the best—Adrien’s job is to sense what’s wrong and take them out. Hers is to make whatever is needed to help fix things, to push someone forward and help them grow. Her job to craft a better tomorrow today… and to do that, she lost the parts of her that picked up Danger. She can still find Caution signs (and her anxiety will always invent danger) but real Danger detection went to Adrien when she agreed to become Ladybug in the first place… And until both her and Adrien renounce their roles as the pair wielding the Ladybug and Black Cat miraculouses, she’ll always be missing it.

            The same way Adrien is missing his ability to think outside the box—seeing things as what they could become to help them went to her. He can only see potential threat and act on them. She can only see potential aide and act on that.

            Jason grinned when he managed to make it into Paris. The second there was some damn akuma attack, he was grabbing the baby Bat and hunting Hawkmoth his way—she need the jewelry? Fine. She can have it. The guy brainwashing kids? The one that slaughtered the city? He’s Jason’s. ---------

            Bruce didn’t like being benched. He doesn’t like not knowing he had another child. He especially doesn’t like that this one is constantly preventing an apocalypse and his allies can’t be bothered to even send him anything about it. Not even a basic ‘she’s not living on the streets’ like Jason did. Or ‘she’s got parents here, calm down’ so he could get this stupid instinct to storm Paris and take on the bastard threatening his family that he didn’t know he had.

            Apparently Barbra has a hunch, but isn’t sharing until she has “conclusive evidence” of his daughter’s identity. Damian just isn’t speaking of it. As if being someone’s father biologically gives him a built-in alarm system for when he’s had a child and the ability to track them down at birth. Damian being raised in the League of Assassins should be enough proof to the contrary there.

            The others were… he wasn’t absolutely certain, but fairly certain his self-proclaimed ‘middle kid club’ were tracking his missing daughter down themselves. Possibly to claim her as part of their group, specifically.

            God, she was so young, It was before he even heard of the League that she was born. In that lifetime before becoming Batman. Would she like him? He was absent her whole life—did she want to meet him, meet the family? They’re a mess, he knows it. But they’re his—he chose them and they chose him. Would she chose him too?

            He watched another video of Ladybug in her early days, before she and her partner (dear god he’s cat-themed. Is it genetic? Should he test her and himself for some ‘drawn to dresses-as-a-cat’ gene?) were given any kind of training.

            She blew herself up to stop her city from being taken over by ‘Animan’ and his creatures.

            His daughter.

            Exploded.

            (She died. She died and he didn’t know. God he’s a horrible parent, and he hasn’t even parented her yet.)

            She died.

            To keep her city safe.

            She somehow reconstituted. But her face, in that video, she was shocked.

            His daughter should be dead but she’s not.

            Magic, he’s so glad his daughter uses magic.

            He. He’s going to need to consult someone. Raven? Raven should work. He can’t talk to the Justice League—nothing wrong with talking to the half-demon all of his Robins that lead the Titans has worked with.

            Loopholes.

            The Justice League is horrible at closing them.

            Dick wanted to be mad when Damian came clean to him about the needles. He wanted to freak out over almost losing a sister he hasn’t met.

            He did.

            But.

            But this is Damian.

            Damian who still has trouble connecting. Who still flinches at certain tones of voice and phrasing. Damian who desperately wants to do Good but… struggles.

             Damian who has all of Bruce’s communication problems and then some.

             So no, Dick did not scream when he found out Damian only sparred “the blood daughter” because she looked too frail and weak for her to be considered anything resembling a threat to him. He did not sigh when he found out that Bruce didn’t know when Damian assumed he did. He did not hit himself when Damian discussed the various weapons he’d gifted her as a apology with the bouquets over the years and their meanings.

             He did take a deep breath, and begin explaining from this baby bat’s stance what had happened.

             “Imagine for a moment that it was me before I became Robin, and I was almost killed by someone who only let me live if I never contacted a shared parent or that parent’s known family. How do you think Pre-Robin me would have responded?”

             “You would have feared for your life and done whatever you could to prevent contact.”

             “Now, imagine I wasn’t told who to be avoiding, only aliases.”

             “You would avoid everyone with an alias that you did not help them create, and keep them from unknown aliases.”

             Dick snapped his fingers. “Exactly. That’s what this sister, what are we calling her?”

             “Her alias is Ladybug.”

             “Yes, that is what Ladybug was going through before Aquaman made contact.”

             Damian was quiet for a moment. “She must be on edge.”

             Dick nodded at that. “She probably is.”

             Damian furrowed his brow. “Do you think the League would allow me to contact her and end our agreement?”

             Dick rubbed the back of his neck. “I’m not sure, but we can try.”

             “… And if they refuse?”

             “Then we find another way. We’re Bats,” Dick reassured Damian. He just hoped the missing members weren’t doing anything too rash…

             Marinette made a (painful) decision. Adrien and her would swap miraculouses—at least until there were less pings on her sites from Gotham. For added protection, she kept the Mouse miraculous on. Chatte Noire was less known, and she doubted Wonder Woman or Aquaman informed Batman about the miraculous of Creation and Destruction’s particular… refusal to let anyone but a pair chosen together to wield them at any point.

             Chatte Noire would only be on call for a day or so… what’s the worst that can happen?

Like? He has to awkwardly somehow reconcile with the person that tried to use him to commit suicide? And Rin then avoids him (while that is selfish and a bit conceited it's understandable why, they are just kids)

But what really stuck with me is how she give Kakashi Sukea's things because Kakashi reminds her of her brother

Idk how to properly explain it, but I love how you let Kakashi just accept it. His characterization in the fic is amazing.

It's kind if simialr as to how in canon Kakashi just accepts his posituon in ANBU as Hound without much protest. In the fic he just accepts fhat he acts as a temporary stand in for Rin's brother. It's like he doesn't really care much about his own identity.

I think another good example of this would be where he willing gives up Obito's eye. Because at that rate everyone started associating Obito's sharingan with Kakashi, in both a negative and postive context. It becomes a part of him, but then he willingly gives it up under the pretense that it would benefit Obito

I guess I can best describe it as Kakashi doesn't care much about his identity because he cares far too much for others? He's willing to literally and figuratively sacrifice parts of himself and who he is as a person to keep the people he cares about alive

And though it really isn't obvious, that kind of mentality does start to shift near the end of Changing Visions of Our future since any literal and physical connection to him and the people he cares about are severed

Losing Obito's eye essentially frees Kakashi from that burden of needing to carry out other's wants

(I have no idea if this character analysis makes sense but i gotta say your charavterization of all of Team Minato are great and just gahh so good so good)

ok no actually that was like. my biggest thing in the guardians fic too—i wanted it to be clear that their decisions can be excused as long as they fix them, because they’re children. the oldest obito and rin get in this fic is 18 years old, and that’s not old enough to be making such big decisions like they do in this fic yk??

rin and kakashi’s relationship was also SO fun to write for me, because yeah, rin just kind of made kks her sukea, and kks just accepted it. and that’s kind of their relationship: the same closeness as rin and sukea, but without the same need to protect kakashi because rin knows he can care for himself (and even when sukea reveals himself as ANBU, she still doesn’t let him out of her sights)

and as for obito and his eye, i wrote ab this in another fic that i don’t remember BUT. “as a child, you don’t think of the weight of the guilt that a gift can carry” referring to the sharingan, of course. so kakashi is plagued by this guilt and constant reminder of not saving obito all the time, until he can give it up and at the point, start developing his own personality and morals.

i went into this in a response to drako’s reasoning for why obito started a war, but imo in canon, kakashi never got his original morals back. his og idea was “save friends,” then sakumo died and it was “mission>friends,” and then obito died and he started masking with obito’s traits. i go into a bit more detail there but yeah, basically that never happens in guardians. he’s just himself in pt2!! (i also have a huge essay worth of ideas of how personalities come to be but that’s for another post)

I think this really gives away how quickly my interest in a show can change if I latch onto something else, but this is way more fandoms than I was expecting, it doesn't usually have this much variety 😭 my favourite line from these ones is probably from I just wanna be somebody to you because I usually try to avoid opening with dialogue because I read too many "writing tips" posts that said it wasn't a good opener, but I actually like opening with dialogue more now because it gets you right into the story!

The people of Mystic Falls are fairly more cautious than Enzo would have expected.

By the looks of it, I tend to try and introduce whose point of view it's going to be in the very first line, and I try and just jump straight into it rather than build up, which is something I actually used to do way too much to the point where I felt like I was disinterested by the that I actually got to the part of the story that I wanted to write in the first place! So, this feels like progress of some sort! And my favourite WIP opening line is Clash of the European Boyfriends just because it's very in character and funny to me.

Ahhh anon, thank you so much for this message!!! I’m so glad that post resonated with you too, I feel very strongly about it. We are so alienated from ourselves and so twisted by the demands of productivity.

If you don’t mind I’m going to throw out some quotes from Time Wars by Jeremy Rifkin, because it was a formative read for me on this topic. He argues that Western Civ has increasingly separated itself from the rhythms of nature through novel time-allocating devices like mechanical clocks and schedules.

For most of recorded history (and likely before), human lives were governed by the calendar, as opposed to a more modern invention, the schedule:

The calendar is past-oriented. Its legitimacy rests on commemoration. Calendar cultures commemorate archetypal myths, ancient legends, historical events, the heroic deeds of gods, the lives of great historical figures, and the cyclical fluctuations of astronomical and environmental phenomena. In calendar cultures, the future takes its meaning from the past. Humanity organizes the future by continually resurrecting and honoring its past experience. The schedule looks to the future, not the past, for its legitimacy. In schedule cultures, the future is severed from the past and made a separate and independent temporal domain. Scheduling cultures don’t commemorate, they plan. They are not interested in resurrecting the past but in manipulating the future. The schedule exerts far more control over time allocation than the calendar. The calendar regulates macro time—events spread out over the year, the schedule regulates micro time—events spread out over the seconds, minutes, and hours of the day. While modern calendars have become increasingly secularized, throughout most of history their social content was inseparably linked to their spiritual content. In traditional calendrical cultures the important times are sacred times and are observed through the commemoration of special holy days. The schedule, in contrast, is associated with productivity. Sacred values and spiritual concerns play little or no role in the formulation of schedules. Time, in the new scheme of things, is an instrument to secure output. Time is stripped of any remaining social content and transformed into pure utility (79-80).

One of the first groups to adopt a schedule were the Benedictines in the 6th century AD (followed not long after by merchants). The core belief of theirs was “idleness is the enemy of the soul” and organized every moment of the day into formal activity with bells tolling to move the monks to the next activity:

Of course, this kind of surrender to the dictates of the hour and its proscribed activity ensured that each monk’s time would be given over to the institution and its guardians. The individual monks were locked into a temporal order so rigidly defined that there was no time left for individual initiative. In this way, the monastery predated the autocratic state by nearly a millennium. To secure proper compliance with the proscribed schedule, the Benedictines developed a tool that could provide them with greater accuracy and precision of time measurement than could be obtained by reliance on bells and bell ringers. They invented the mechanical clock. Lewis Mumford once remarked that ‘the clock, not the steam engine, is the key machine of the Modern Age (82).

The abstract idea of regular time is something that is not innate in human lives. The way serfs organized their days was by sunrise, high noon, and sunset, and by the sermon bell from church. They did not have the same merciless subjective experience of seconds passing without productive work.

The first clocks had no dials. They merely sounded a bell on the hour... By the sixteenth century, clocks were chiming on the quarter hour and some were being constructed with dials to demarcate the passing of each hour. In the mid 1600s the pendulum was invented, providing a much more exacting and reliable timing mechanism. Shortly thereafter, the minute hand was introduced. The second hand did not make its debut until the early 1700s, when it was first used by astronomers, navigators, and doctors to record more accurate measurements. While the idea of minutes and seconds had been conceived back in the fourteenth century by mathematicians, it is important to bear in mind that they did not become part of the temporal consciousness of Western man and woman until they found their way onto the dial of the mechanical clock (85).

Basically, I wish people would stop feeling bad about struggling to work within the restraints and demands of capitalist schedule time, because it is a recent imposition, designed to capture and occupy all available physical/mental space. For spiritual reasons, maybe that is okay, but for capitalist ones? It made me feel crazy to not be able to work like an automaton moving from task to task, but I am not a Capitalist monk. My hours do not belong to god, or to the state, or to a corporation. My hours belong to me.

I saw the recent Guardian interview with Kitase and how he said he can’t tell what the future installments will be like despite his Unti quote “Even though it’s a Remake, please assume that FF7 will still be FF7 as usual." Many fans were curious about this and Audrey explained what Kitase meant by that , is that the main plot will happen but the story will be different, so my question is does that mean the love triangle will not happen this time since many people say part 1 killed it ??

I really don’t think they’re going to mess with anything that’s considered a major plot point. They know what the majority of fans are looking for. I think there are certain things fixed that may only be expanded on: Aerith’s fate, the Black Materia and Sephiorth, and The Lifestream are three I can think of that are going to happen, but may be expanded and slightly changed. I think it’ll be very similar to what you see in Part 1. 

In Part 1, they took 6 hours from the OG and expanded it to 30-50 hours (more if you want to Plat Trophy it). But the main plot points still happened. Cloud still falls in to the church, the Sector 7 plate still falls, Aerith still gets taken to Shinra HQ, and the party still has to escape from Midgar.

Something that slightly changed would be The Promise. In the OG, Tifa reminds Cloud of it, in Remake he remembers it on his own. This doesn’t seem to affect the actual Promise scene and the dialogue. It’s slightly different (slightly) from the EN version of the OG, but the same message and feeling is shown, in my opinion. This allows Cloud to be smooth and drop that he remembered it. 

Some say these things only happened because of the Whispers. In some cases, they do make it seem that way. When Cloud isn’t asked to go to the second bombing mission, the Whispers hurt Jessie in order to force him to go. What’s odd about this... is the whole crew goes in the OG - Jessie, Wedge, Biggs, Tifa, Barret, AND Cloud all go to that second bombing mission, but the first three stay out of the main area. I think because they’re so involved in the first one, people would have expected them to be super involved in the second, and that was a time to build up the relationship for Cloud, Tifa, and Barret. The other three would have interfered in that. That’s why I think Biggs was simply there to give you your escape tools and then he noped out. 

So the “plot ghosts” didn’t really keep to the OG, fully. In order for Cloud to meet Aerith, though, he HAD to go to the second bombing mission. I think if he wouldn’t have fallen the normal way, something would have tried to knock him off. 

My thoughts on the Whispers are a diversion. They want us to be excited and expect the unexpected. I think they do that pretty well in Part 1. There’s a few times where you think things are going to change. I remember leading up to the Sector 7 plate and how Aerith was acting, maybe they were going to change it. And they do - slightly - you get to evacuate some folks and you get to see how Aerith gets captured by Tseng, which I always appreciate an explanation on something I don’t see. They show Biggs and Jessie dying as very dramatic scenes, but change Biggs dying to  (maybe) not dying. 

I don’t think anything they’ve done to add to the story, or areas they changed, hurt the plot at all. If anything, it made it better, in my opinion. You are already getting attached to all of these guys - you see Cloud’s constant struggle with himself on his face. That’s powerful and was impossible in 1997 with a video game. 

In terms of the LTD... it’s over.

After Part 1, after Dev comments, I don’t think they’d stray too far. They know what the majority of the fans want, and that was a Remake of the OG. I think they hit it out of the park with additions. They can’t make everybody happy, it’s impossible. Folks have the choice to not play the game if they really don’t like what they do.

I don’t think Aerith will live, at least not in the timeline we’re playing in - she’s either going to have the same fate or she’s going to “move” somewhere (this second timeline that seems to be a thing) else, but I think her disappearing is a big point of the story of life and loss, so keeping her alive WOULD blow that out. I think from my LTD viewpoint, they’re making Cloti more obvious and that will most likely continue, but I don’t think it’ll take over the game, just like it wasn’t a huge part of OG, it won’t be a main theme in Remake... but it’ll be much more prominent than in OG, if that makes sense.

1. tell us about a character’s social media use.

jude (william) posts on instagram a lot less than other characters and when he does, it’s usually some kind of dark post with no caption. still he has some of the most followers out of everyone. his friends (theo mostly) constantly make fun of his emo aesthetic but he refuses to change it

11. mention one thing in your remake that people would judge you for.

i wouldn’t say that any of my characters are complete self-inserts (except for maybe one of them) but i do tend to project on them a lot, especially in seasons 2, 6, and 7 (and 8 to an extent but my graduation experience was a lot different than theirs will be thanks to our good friend the coronavirus). i feel like people might judge me for that ffdsfkf

14. do you have ideas about your character’s families? how involved are they in the story?

all of the mains have very different situations when it comes to their families. the one who’s probably closest with their family is safiyya (sana), and so her parents and brother are pretty active in the plot of her season. for a few of the mains, their parent/guardian(s) aren’t really in their lives, so it’s more their absence that’s part of the plot than their presence. this leads to a lot of the found family trope, which, with me being gay and everything, i really enjoy.  i also made sure to include a lot of sibling relationships. i always found it weird that all of the skams had so few characters that had siblings, it’s pretty much just the sanas, the williams, and some jonases. i’m an only child myself, but most of the people i know have siblings. in skam dc, the amount of characters with siblings definitely outnumbers the amount of only children - i think the only main who’s an only child is willa (eva) (and technically holly, but she and theo consider themselves siblings).

17. how is mental illness represented in your remake?

i think there’s a lot more discussion of mental illness than in the og - all of the seasons you haven’t seen yet focus on it in some way. i can’t talk too much about seasons 5 - 8, but i can tell you that they dive deeper into jasper having bpd, as well as talking about ptsd, anxiety, depression, and trauma. there’s a lot of discussion of coping mechanisms (both positive and negative), and i also show characters taking medication and going to therapy.
