on the one hand I think inner demons could stand to have a bit more romanced rook specific content, but on the other hand the underlying in-built implication that 'yours is the one true voice of comfort and safety in my inner world' is a sentiment and intimacy so way beyond the romantic or the platonic or any secret third thing you could care to name that it makes me lose my entire poor little mind a bit. it's so big and fundamental — near-existential — that in that exact moment at least the distinctions kind of seem irrelevant.

all the people lucanis' mind conjures up along the way are relationships he has that are unavoidably mixed and fraught in some ways even when they're also full of love (they are fraught BECAUSE they're full of love) — the good in them inseparable from things that hurt him at the same time. (it's about: the basic disorganized attachment patterns this poor guy is dragging around with him. careful with those, they're dellamorte heirlooms. what you love also inevitably hurts you and you won't be allowed to have one without the other, you have to surrender parts of your soul to hold on to what little you have left: this is the story up until now.) and the idea that rook isn't that to him — that beneath the fear of wanting them when romanced (which is more its own separate thing because within this psychology, actively wanting something and not just clinging on for dear life to even a meager status quo lest you lose it is in itself dangerous bordering on catastrophic), this is a relationship where there isn't resentment, or guilt, or shame, or dread, or rage, or self-hate, or any of the other emotions that keep him paralyzed, unable to move this way or that. no debts, nothing owed of yourself and your soul's substance except what you can freely and safely and happily give. love and freedom don't coexist — but, I mean, you're almost starting to make me think........... unless...👀👀👀. the unconditional and undramatic 'you are here and I am here with you, you can be exactly how you are right now with me and it's safe for us both even though you're afraid it won't be, I'm not going anywhere' acceptance rook shows him here that he returns to them in the big romance scene, when it's rook who needs it. the way he's just. standing there in the center of it all, like a child desperately helplessly waiting to be found, hiding in the place he hopes you'll know to look first. (rook does know. it's one of the first things they say in there.)

in short the most important room in his little mind palace for the romance is the very first room — the one where rook isn't. where, in fact, rook cannot be, because they disprove the entire structure of the place with their existence and presence in his life. with everyone else he's putting words in their mouths about what they think of him, and rook is the one who actually gets to come in to speak their own words to him — and have him listen. ('he'll listen to you, he always listens to you', 'your voice is a comfort'.) of course rook isn't present anywhere else in there — at the risk of stating the obvious to a tedious degree, they aren't one of the locks, they're bringing the key. in the very finest 'the messenger and the message' sort of way.

I saw your post about Bruce being protective when people creep on teenage Dick, and I have to tell you I STILL remember the line in ASOH where he talked to Lex about it. Goddamn. Fantastic line, hit me like a punch to the emotions, and stayed with me.

OOF yeah! The line about Bruce and Lex being pretty too young, right? I loved that whole scene.

It came at such a tense time (Jason’s sudden emergency presentation) but it was really important to show that Lex actually cared about helping AND that Bruce wanted Lex there to help. And that Bruce understood a lot of what Lex had gone through, because he’d gone through it himself. But Jason won’t, if both of them have their way.

Bold of you to assume I would ever consider ignoring you (I swear ily <33 you are the furthest thing from bothersome I adore seeing notifs from you!!)

To start- no he wouldn't have a Grave, BUT not for like the "he didn't think of that/didn't care" Theres a long of secret shenanigans going on behind scenes but ill go ahead and clarify.

What happened was when Red Robin died and magic voodoo whatever (that i'm keeping secret for now ;)) and what I call a "Time slip" When the Time slip occured- he did not change dimensions, switch conciousness, or even "break the timestream" He is tiny Tim- Tim maintained his memories from his Red Robin life- BUT the moment he went back in time and changed something (as minimal as what he ate for breakfast) that time ceased to exist.

To explain it let's use a writing metaphor. Tims original time was an entire book of its own.

But then the "author" changed a major event, suddenly everything that happened past that event was no longer considered canon. Yes it happened, but its no longer reality. It is a whole seperate draft from the now "published work"

The draft still exists- but it cannot and will not ever be published exactly the same as it once was. It is forever different. Sure some things are salvaged and remain, but others have been edited out by sheer happenstance or on purpose (aka Tim intervention)

SO instead of Tim replacing a younger version of him, its Tim who suddenly woke up and the past 12 years of his life had ceased to exist entierly and were now as real as a pretty vivid dream.

Equally horrifying yes- but no Tiny Tims were replaced/harmed in timeline shenanigans!!

(though funnily enough there will be some batfam shenanigans that might ring fairly similar to that scenerio)

Witcher a/b/o ramblings~~~

Geralt keeping the secret that he is an omega and not knowing that Jaskier is an alpha. Even though Geralt is using suppressants, he can still feel something very lightly bubbling away like he's near his heat and it's making him a bit clumsy. This in turn is making Jaskier feel super protective and he's absolutely oblivious about it until Jaskier accidentally uses alpha voice when they are traveling one day, trying to save Geralt from tripping over a large rock 🤭 Geralt's knees buckle and he maybe whines a little because sure why not, let the man whine, he's an angel hahah 😂 and they both pretend they didn't just experience that together - but how long can they keep that up....

I like to think of Jaskier slowly peppering in little dominant alpha protective things for weeeeeekkkksssss testing the waters and Geralt nervously leaning into it, wanting to be looked after but terrified that he's not allowed to indulge because witchers shouldn't need looking after, they're meant to be the protectors ...

alpha voice is such a good concept if you do it right and I can totally see the two of them slowly getting into it like-

Jaskier giving Geralt his half-eaten dinner because he's full and he knows witchers have such a high metabolism, Geralt wants to refuse because he doesn't need babying, he can make his own damn decisions and- "Eat." oh. oh okay, maybe just a bit? 🙁 if Jaskier thinks it's important enough to use his voice then maybe he should eat?

one day Geralt gets incredibly overwhelmed (sensory overload or maybe task overload) and Jaskier wants nothing more than to soothe his poor hurting omega but he's so stubborn! so after hours and hours of Geralt not getting better because he doesn't want to accept the fact that he's not doing great, Jaskier finally snaps "For fucks sake. Listen to me!" and Geralt's head snaps around and he's staring at Jaskier wide eyed and confused and he whines because he has no idea what to do and so Jaskier gentles him out of his panic with so many soft words

and maybe someone is talking shit about Jaskier and Geralt starts growling, ready to punch that damned motherfucker who dared to- "Geralt, stop." and he freezes, looks at Jaskier wide eyed because what does he mean? isn't he allowed to fend for his alpha's honor? doesn't Jaskier want Geralt to protect him anymore? 🥺

but it turns our that "No, sweet thing, I just don't want you to hurt yourself on my account. You're so precious to me."

and Jaskier tries to talk about it with Geralt but Geralt is absolutely not up for that! (feelings? no, never heard of them) until one day, he hisses at Jaskier, that he doesn't need to talk about this because he trusts Jaskier. trusts him to never use his voice against Geralt like others might and Jaskier has his oh. oh. moment.

and then one day, Jaskier asks Geralt to kneel. And oh he kneels so prettily. and it's like something between them just clicks into place
