Kunikida’s lips are gentle as they trace the lightning scars encircling Chuuya’s arm. He kisses along their wrist while Chuuya’s hand is wrapped in his. Chuuya simply watches, entranced, still unused to being treated with such care. They are accustomed to the dark—to smoke and gunpowder and blood, to touch used only as a weapon.

But Kunikida handles them with care, and as Dazai hugs them from behind, Chuuya is reminded just how far they’ve come.

For so long, they never could have imagined being allowed something soft.

Dazai presses his lips to the freckles on Chuuya’s shoulder, tightening his hold on their torso. He doesn’t say anything, but Chuuya can hear him silently echoing Kunikida’s earlier words: Let us take care of you.

Chuuya is not good at allowing themself vulnerability, but they trust Kunikida and Dazai both. They know that even when they let go of their ability under Dazai’s touch, even when they lower their all of their defenses and find themself hurtling towards a collison, their partners will be there to catch them before they can hit the ground.

Atsushi has never kissed anyone before. It’s not a secret—in fact, he’d be surprised if anyone believed he had any experience when it comes to romance and dating. So he really doesn’t know what to expect after Akutagawa bluntly tells him, “I’m going to kiss you now.”

He doesn’t pull back or turn him down, though his heart hammers painfully in his chest, anxiety spiking as Akutagawa cups his face in his hands. He looks over Atsushi skeptically, as if perturbed by what he’s about to do even though he was the one who suggested (demanded) it.

Atsushi opens his mouth to tell him to just get on with it already, but Akutagawa dives in more he can do more than let out a surprised squeak.

Their teeth clack together and Atsushi really very clearly has no idea what he’s doing, but he grabs for Akutagawa’s coat in an attempt to prevent him from backing away. Their noses bump as they try to find the right angle, and Akutagawa growls, irritated.

Atsushi thinks, probably, he’s never kissed anyone before either.

But Akutagawa is not one to back down from a challenge, and Atsushi refuses to be the first to pull away. So he pushes down all of the hesitation bubbling up in his stomach and kisses back harder.

“Hey.” Ranpo pokes Dazai’s arm. “Hey, hey.” Another poke. “Dazai-kun.” Poke. “Hey.” Poke.

They’re getting close to what they want; they know they are. They count the seconds in their head as they continue to incessantly jab their finger into his bicep. Dazai’s expression remains neutral, but Ranpo knows that’s just a facade. Because he’s the world’s greatest detective, and he knows everything. But he especially knows Dazai.

Finally, Dazai turns to look at them. “Wha—”

Ranpo kisses him square on the lips. Then, he pulls back and giggles. “Oops! I meant to go for your cheek.”

Dazai narrows his eyes. Ranpo knows he hasn’t fallen for the lie, but what he didn’t plan for was Dazai to shake it off so easily and decide to get them back.

He fists a hand in the collar of Ranpo’s shirt. “If you’re going to kiss me, you should fully commit to it,” he advises, and then drags Ranpo back in for more.

(Even if it’s not the reaction Ranpo was expecting, it’s still a victory as far as he’s concerned.)

9. start to finish, how long did it take you to write the last fic you posted?

alter ego took me probably 2-3 months to write? i started it as an impulsive thing, as i do with most stories, and just got too into the weeds for a while…

whereas all of us was quite a quick one i scribbled off in the early portion of a flight, to scratch a landoscarcar itch. but i sat on it for ages because i can get nitpicky about my own stuff.

25. besides writing, what are your other hobbies?

various forms of maladaptive daydreaming that may or may not result in actual performing arts hobbies - which is a long winded way of also saying where i live and its arts scene(s) are small enough that i could probably be doxxed so maybe i won’t say 😂

but long story short er i’ve always loved stage stuff, narratives, and all things adjacent to that strange old thing we call storytelling!

hi! oh my goodness. i am SO sorry i didn’t say anything earlier. i did read everything a couple days ago, and i Have been chewing on it, rotating it in my mind, etc etc…..and the graphic has been my phone lockscreen since i first read it!!!!!

frankly i am obsessed and have also been a little frazzled this month lol. saw your post late because of the general whirlwind that is december and then couldn’t quite get my thoughts into sufficient words n got worried “oh no would it be weird to say something now…..” which is incredibly silly in retrospect, so sorry for that. 

i’m relatively new to hockey fandom and the Narratives don’t always quite click for me (yet, at least :)) because i don’t know all of the lore for a lot of the popular pairings haha, so it means a lot that you’ve taken time out of your day to break things down for me and share your own thoughts <3 tysm. again, super sorry for the delayed response. i’m very sorry if you felt as though you’d wasted your time or something along those lines :’) just wanted to let you know that i really appreciate you and the time it took you to get everything down and make the graphic!!!! and like i can’t overstate how much your tags both over here and on your other blog have helped me to Get It since the start of this season, so thank you.

but now the house is quiet, the in-laws are gone, and no new work stuff until january :) so i can finally get some stuff down. every point you brought up hits in it own way but gosh you are very incredibly right the mcstrome of it all…..that’s sort of the lens i’ve been listening to the song through since you mentioned it.

the golden boy and the “draft bust” and the ever present notion of “isn’t it all about old friends? like everything? all of it?”.  like idk looking back on a bestfriendship from when you were a teenager that was Super intense and the lines were blurred and maybe realizing (if you hadn’t had the words or the “guts” or awareness or wtv to put a name to it at that point in your life) that y’all were a smidge more than just friends. 

best friends forever until you just aren’t! growing up and growing apart. it’s just the way things go but it can and will ache for a damn long time! you think you’re over it until their birthday or the holidays roll around and you wonder in a distant sort of way who they’re spending it with. what you would’ve hypothetically gotten them as a present if you still spoke. what do they even like nowadays, anyway?

maybe having the friendship end subtly. going from playing and traveling together and living in one another’s pockets to 2,080 miles of distance? (i may have my timeline/details confused here so sorry in advance) texting as much as you can at first but he’s a phenom he’s mcjesus he’s the next in line he’s expected to win the cup with his new team and end the drought for Canada. and they have him now but he was yours first, wasn’t he? but it’s fine. because you’re busy too. you’re captaining the team now. you’re gonna get the memorial cup that he couldn’t. it’s fine. you’re fine. you don’t even have time to worry about it anyway. 

one conversation a week turns to one a month turns to once in a blue moon turns to stale words until it goes cold. these days you can’t quite seem to remember who ended things, but does it really matter all that much now?

or maybe it doesn’t end like that at all. maybe it ends in a flurry of angry words and digs in some or other of the endless hotel rooms you’ve shared together over the years. who knows!

and that’s not even getting into the rest of the 2015 draft class. or the ld19 of it all! ooh hoo hoo. you grew up with him but he’s not your waiting room. he grew up with you but he’ll grow “old” (end his career) with someone else. and isn’t that just something! 

i don’t think it’s totally them, but sort of the sentiment of “I hope you get everything you ever wanted and I hope I never hear a word about it.” I want one ticket off of your carousel!!!! merry christmas, please don’t call!!!!!!!

dylan being sent up and down and traded around until finally landing in washington, a place where he is clearly at home and LOVED for the guy and player he is!!!!!!!! watching a game and seeing all the strome jerseys in the crowd……..wagh.

all that said. some other songs that are mcstrome to me in various ways: hot & heavy by lucy dacus (lol kinda the whole song). before the world was big by girlpool (“i just miss how it felt standing next to you wearing matching [jerseys? sweaters?] before the world was big”). happiness by Taylor swift (“i guess it’s the price i pay for seven years in heaven”), cut your bangs by radiator hospital (maybe? possibly? unsure. i like the whole dog thing there). i’m so glad i feel this way about you by insignificant other (!!!!!). there are so many THEM lyrics in there……..waough.

anyway. other things off the top of my head: 2015 connor specifically saying something like “hey let’s wait a minute so we can see this” to stand by the stage when dylan was getting drafted after him. MAN. you reminded me of the fact that they couldn’t even make eye contact at the handshake line!!!!!!!!! they didn’t go to each other’s weddings!!!!!!!!!! (do you think once upon a time they ever thought they’d being each other’s best man?). just a couple months ago dylan liking the tweet of connor getting that goal during the playoffs!!!!!!!! makes you wonder if he texted him………..

lol this was all over the place and i was probably wrong on some things and there’s SO much more that someone else could say way more eloquently, but i digress. i dunno everything about them is so nuts to me!!!!! needless to say i will be incredibly sat for the game january 21 🙂‍↕️

no... to my heart's despair... you have the timeline right. i think in the best most tragic sense there's a mcstrome narrative where it is truly that nothing went wrong. the love was there. we couldn't do enough to save it because we didn't see it slipping away. i didn't notice when you didn't call until you never did. i don't know you now but i still remember when i did, do you?

Dazai lets out a breathy laugh as he stumbles. His cane clatters to the ground, and he expects his body will hit the pavement next. It’s a shame the fall won’t be far enough to do any real damage, he thinks.

Then his fall stops, and he doesn’t hit the ground at all.

He looks up, finding Kunikida glaring down at him. His glasses are crooked, and there’s a bleeding cut on his forehead.

Dazai grins playfully. “My knight in shining armor. What did I do to deserve you?”

“You’re an idiot,” Kunikida scoffs. He helps Dazai regain his balance, then picks up his cane and presses it back into his hands. “But, for the record, you didn’t have to do anything to ‘deserve’ me. You know I’ll be there to catch you when you fall regardless.”

Dazai’s smile drops as his cheeks heat. He turns away a second too slow, squeezing his eyes shut and praying that Kunikida will just leave him alone.

Of course, he isn’t so lucky.

Kunikida laughs, pressing a kiss to the side of Dazai’s head. “We’re still on a case, princess. Are you going to help me catch that guy, or does the knight have to track down the villain alone?”

Dazai’s face grows even warmer. He is really, truly, sincerely, going to die.

“You are the bane of my existence,” Chuuya growls, except they do so with their lips mere millimeters from Ranpo’s and their body pressed against his, so Ranpo doesn’t even need to use Ultra Deduction to determine that’s a lie.

“You love me,” Ranpo counters, his smirk only growing when Chuuya slams his back against the wall in response. “It’s alright, it’s not your fault; I’m just a very lovable individual.”

“You are the most annoying person I have ever had the displeasure of meeting.”

Ranpo hums in obvious disbelief. He cracks one eye open and finds Chuuya’s pupils are blown wide. One of their gloved hands is wrapped around his throat, but they have yet to really do anything about that. So Ranpo tips his head back and says, “You can walk away whenever you want, you know. This isn’t like in Poe’s book. You’re not stuck here.”

“I’m going to kill you,” Chuuya swears, their grip finally tightening and restricting his airflow. Ranpo’s grin only widens at the sensation, but before he can think up another snarky comeback, Chuuya’s lips are on his and he’s struggling to breathe for reasons unrelated to the fingers pressing into the side of his throat.

✨: how did you come up with the oc's name?

bramble- the name of a thorny plant felt right for a creature with a thorny personality :D also it just has a really good mouthfeel if that makes sense

lorne- i liked the sound of it so i picked it from a list wbsdjkf

ruarc- i used the name for random ocs from 2018-2022.. it finally stuck on the ruarc we know and love in october. it means hero/champion if i remember right which is fun bc ruarc is decidedly against becoming any kind of famous hero (she likes anonymity)

🍀: what originally inspired the oc?

bramble- falconry. i think the bond between raptors and falconers is really fascinating. btw bramble started out as a flight rising dragon :o she's actually still in my lair. her design has changed a ton though lol

lorne- the song "hungover in the city of dust" by autoheart along with rekke from pillars of eternity 2 (redhead.. tall and buff.. scar on face.. they look similar wnsjdkf)

ruarc- my baldur's gate 3 bard! i didn't plan on getting attached but she ended up as one of my most beloved ocs. hee

🧠: what do you like most about the oc?

bramble- i like how she stays wild despite being lorne's companion. he can't trust that she'll always return to his side or that she won't turn her claws on him. her design is pretty fun too (had made her a wyvern but struggled with the design until i decided to use the mayfly dragon adopt i got from @/tetrameryxx for her new appearance)

lorne- his design and his ties to other characters.. he's a swordsman w a dad bod and he has so many friends. what's not to love !!

ruarc- her personality. i've been playing her in a dnd campaign with my family and it's so fun roleplaying as her bc she has a very playful/outgoing personality that i rarely show irl. also her design... fond of her outfit and how easy it's been to make a cosplay of it hee
