So often I wonder how different this manga would have gone if Aogiri Tree was a little more honest and direct about their goals. That they weren't just fighting for ghouls, but for human-ghoul peace.

If it hadn't been for his awful experience with Yamori, then Kaneki probably would have joined Aogiri when Kanou asked him. The entire reason he hates Aogiri is because he associates it with Yamori.

If he had never been tortured by Yamori, then I think he would be a lot more receptive to joining Aogiri.

We see in this flashback that she denied Tatara when asked.

But then a mere 3 pages later she says this...

Maybe she just liked the chaotic violent nature of Furuta's plan more than Aogiri, but I think that last panel holds a lot of weight: Furuta's wish got her to step onto the stage.

I’m actually really glad to hear right now that a lot of people are struggling with the storyline. I’ve admired sensei so much up until recently, it hurts to read this work and wonder why I can’t enjoy it anymore. It ties back to her monologue. She says that if she’s not careful, her existential crisis will catch up to her, so in order to stave it off she’s got to always keep up the excitement, meaningless fun. Basically, she can’t stop or she’ll start thinking, and no one wants that.

Then she says, “The world is a circus. Please keep up the parade, cutie. Just like the Underground King so many decades ago. If you do that, I will even step onto the stage”.

The word she uses for “parade” is written as  「快楽提供」, “entertain” or (lit. “provide good feelings”). The parade itself is just continuing the circus metaphor (as is the stage). 

Roma’s wish is that it continues for a while longer so she could stop thinking, and for that she was willing to straight up participate, even though the Clowns usually operate behind the curtain.
