Ukaku ghouls need to be preened, just like birds do. It's a common way to show affection for them, having your loved one sit behind you and making you feel nice and fresh again. Ingrown projectiles acting as pin feathers and kagune shards stuck in places they shouldn't be. It gets a bit stuffy and stiff when going without grooming for awhile, even when the kagune isn't actually out. Signs of this are reoccurring shivers, upper back pain, and tender soreness around the sight.

Not gonna lie, it's always driven me a bit nuts that Tokyo Ghoul doesn't have one, not two, but three older sisters that raised their little brothers. Two of them dying.

I suppose one could argue that Eto and Rize's backstories make a balance. Or even what happens with Arima and Haise. But these three happened in the first series, so my young self was puzzled.

Growing up and learning, it does make sense. That's a discussion that could lead to political discourse, so I will refrain here.
