I wanted to ask, in the kids turned sparkling au, Starscream was teaching Miko how to be the next winglord. Assuming he lived after Predacons Rising, or died and came back like Optimus, would she still treat him like a secondary parent, and eventually become winglord?
Ah yes Starscream.
Previous part here.
━━━━━━ ⊙ ❖ ⊙ ━━━━━━━━━━━━
The matter of Starscream was one Tari did not like to consider. She had memories of Starscream trying to kill her when she was still Miko, but she also had recollections of a time when things were better. She remembered Starscream carrying her through the skies, letting her small wings flutter with the currents before she had learned to fly. She could still recall when he'd held her in his arms, telling her tales of Vos and the glory of the city he proclaimed would one day be hers. She had listened with such intent that even as a fully framed adult, she couldn't help but sometimes wonder if he was still out there, and if he still cared.
She was happy being a Wrecker, and she was happy being away from her family, even if she missed them at times. But as she aged, she felt a void within her, one that was for once, not caused by the loss of her Sire. She remembered stories of the great city that even after Cybertron's restoration, was not again floating in the sky. Starscream had always said that it was the duty of all fliers to watch over their city, to protect it, and to ensure that all who followed after them would have a place to call home.
Tari remembered, and so she decided to act.
Before Optimus's return, she set out on a journey across the stars. Her goal was simple: Find Starscream and get him to help her restore Vos. Sure, he might have been a Decepticon, but her memory painted him as a far more reasonable mech than some of the Autobots she dealt with on a regular basis. And without her Sire? Well... maybe digging up a few old memories would do something good for her aching spark.
It was far easier than she expected to find Starscream, although it hurt to track him down. He was hidden on Earth, her world of origin (a fact she will only begrudgingly admit). When she found him, he was wrapped up in his plans to get back at everyone and everything. She took him by total surprise, and their first meeting was by no means the one she had been hoping for. Starscream didn't recognize her, all he saw was her Wrecker badge.
Tari: Starscream! Hold your fire! I come in peace!
Starscream: An Autobot comes in peace? HA! As if I would believe that!
Tari: My designation is Sagittarius, Tari for short. Don't you remember me?
Starscream: A flier named after this mudball's constellations? How the mighty have fallen.
Tari and Starscream shot at each other for a while, and in the end, Tari had to hunt him down several times over the course of a few months. It was due to this hunt that she ended up with Bumblebee and his team on Earth for a time. She needed the extra guns to get into the Decepticon base on Earth where Starscream was supposedly hiding out. Her adventures with Bumblebee and his team were a whole other series of shenanigans. But in the end, she got her prize.
"Well Autobot? You've caught me. Are you going to kill me now?"
"No, I want you to talk to me. Please, just take a moment and remember me Starscream. I've already lost Optimus, I don't want to lose the only other bot that came even close to being my Sire."
"..."
"..."
"Mistress of the Terran skies. That was your full designation... wasn't it?"
Silence reigned over the duo for a time as Tari led Starscream out in cuffs. He would still need to answer for his crimes... but she would do all she could to lessen the sentence. For once, he went along without argument and allowed Tari to take him back to Cybertron to face justice. Seeing her reminded him of what he had been hoping for all those years ago when the war still raged. He had all but forgotten the precious sparkling he'd been so keen to raise once Megatron died. Predacons, Vehions, Terrorcons... it had all kept him distracted, especially as he sought out his old frame once more.
He would need to make things better.
Tari returned him to Cybertron and worked with anyone willing to side with Starscream during his court case. With a lot of effort, she was able to convince the Council that keeping Starscream alive was not only beneficial, but in the best interest of all of Cybertron. How did she do this? Why, she simply made it clear that Starscream had named her the heir of Vos... on live television. What was the Council to do? If they claimed Tari was lying, they would be disregarding the words of the Prime's sparkling. If they claimed her station was irrelevant, then they would earn the collective ire of every flier on Cybertron. There was almost no choice but to let Starscream out on parole and give Tari the funds needed to begin preparing to rebuild Vos.
Tari and Starscream were still rather tense, but working together on a common goal eased a lot of the pain that had developed over the years. Starscream guided Tari in her efforts and covered for her when she returned to the Wreckers. He laid low when she wasn't around and taught her as much of the old culture of fliers as possible. Over time, the wounds healed, and Starscream was able to proudly call himself Tari's mentor. Optimus was not made aware of Starscream's station in Tari's life until Vos rose into the skies once more and Starscream was there to announce Tari is official heir. It was a shock to say the least, but Tari relished in the companionship of her old secondary caretaker.
"Thank you for coming back with me."
"Thank you for giving me a second chance. To see Vos rise once more is a far greater accomplishment than anything I ever did during the war."
"You aren't so bad Starscream."
"HA! Lord Megatron would have a thing or two to say about that!"

Transformers Rescue Bots Au: Valley of the Sacred
Yes... I made another au :'D
You'll see, I was having a conversation with Amy and then she said how she liked the trope of Heroe and Redeemed Villain living happily together and then, the actual reason of the Au became to make old man yaoi of Heatwave and Boulder leaving the past behind :v
But let me explain it first also because, dammit, I have so many things to say about worldbuilding!
Valley of the Sacred is an Au that as looked at the first fic in this #, is both inspired in fantasy related to stars and medieval-settings
Is basically if the Aaravos (Dragon Prince) x Mandrake (Bluesky's Epic) crossover had a child with Adventure Bots Au, and that child decided to have a baby with the child of my Humanformers: Kingdom of Light Au and 13 Primes Au, but H:KoL and 13 Primes divorced and now the new dad is the From Stars and Above Au
...yeah... kind of weird, but I promise I can explain
Many years ago...
When the blue sun of Cybertron took care of its children and Primes, a whole new species declared the war. The Quintessons, a species who grew on hate and betrayed their creator, took over Cybertron, they were slaved, used and abused, but against the story you may know, the way Cybertronians had to deal with slavery was to escape
The Primes, despite their love for their father, didn't had another but too kill its spark, take a bit of what remained and went away with the cybertronians in big space ships and went as far away as possible, killing the Quintessons that were on that planet and erasing everything related to Cybertron, so, they could never find them, later they found a lonely planet, still on its first days
Using the remaining of the Allspark and using Unicron's blood on its favor, they accelerated this new planet's process and adapted it for Cybertronians to live, bio-forming it, and for Cybertronians to live with more comfort, Primes changed Cybertronian frames for them to be tinier, to look more of what humans could be if they could get Earth, now named Terraquia, and the new Cybertronians that were made from the new Allspark, Terrans
Since then, Primes were see as kings, Unicron's names got reformed and Primus was view as savior
And with time, patience and the new tech, Terraquia became a place of peace, changing their calendars and creating new constelations, domesticating the new life the place offered and building cities to live
And then, the Star came...
The Shooting Star
One day, a shooting star crossed the sky, brillaint, vibrant, full of light and color
The next day, a spark came out of the Well of Sparks, a really strange one, it was colored of purple and blue instead of the usual white, and when they inserted it on a new body, the frame inmediatly changed, white freckles like constalations and colorful optics with white pupils, plus, they also gained strange powers, these new bots weren't as powerful as the old magicians that trained under the Primes' mentorship but were capable of do and create spells, these new bots, who appeared on one per ten sparks, were called "star-touched" because their power was associated with the stars and was believed the Star was a gift of the deceased Primes themselves
Star-Touched
They are normal bots, but they are characterized by their white pupils with colorful optics and the colored freckles on their frames, optics can be any color but freckles can be light blue, deep purple or pure white, in some cases, they're surrounded by nebula-like painting
They develop mysterious powers, like Outliers and mages do in other universes, but these are far less powerful than the mentioned. All except the Black Hole Magician
Inspired by Neo-medieval and Solar-punk, this world tries to live peacefully with nature, using energy that can be easily obtained by nature, so, they don't have to over-exploit Energon's resources, which are low in comparation with Old Cybertron, but with the new resources to combine, now it will last vorns and vorns and vorns... plus, the fact that Terrans are as big as a human makes it easier to survive
The Primes
Primus was once the father, and it still is, it is said he sacrificied his own spark to protect Cybertronians, and then used his own spark to create life at Terraquia, forgiving his brother, Unicron, and working together for the sake of their own children
It is said too that Unicron, like his brother, decided to end his own cycle of destruction and became the new home of now Terrans, which is the reason why it is told to be a savior now
Prima and Megatronus were the oldest and the youngest, they dedicated their lives to protect their Terrans and became also their most trusted rulers
Solus, Alpha Trion, Vector and Alchemist dedicated to save and guard all the knowledge and teached the new Cybertronians and Terrans, so they could survive on their own, they're the most devoted on Temples and it is said they created the Valley of the Sacred
Liege Maximo, Onyx and Quintus were explorers, despite they didn't passed much time on Terraquia, they are devoted because they're the reason of the Star-Touched connection with stars, it is said they were the most spiritual ones and they're the most devoted by Star-Touched and witches
Micronus, Amalgamous and Nexus were the most emotional, it is said Micronus and Nexus, thanks to their condition of Spark connected with their brothers and sisters, and Amalgamous for its variated personality were able to notice any change in the dynamic, at these days they're worshipped as Family advisors and protector of Spark-bonded
And Thirtheen? Is still a Mystery
World
Most of houses are low but well equiped and the biggest buildings are places of work or culture exchanges like festivals, parties, schools and museums
Because cities and little towns are far away from each other, one can use trains, but unfortunately, they are not cheap, so, bots prefer to walk or go on simple carriages sometimes
The planet is divided by six regions separated by the sea: Crystal Land (America), New Iacon (Europa and Asia), New Kaon (Oceania), Tarnite (Africa), North Icelands (Artic) and South Icelands (Antartic)
Nonetheless, the peace... moves
Zeta is technically no Prime, but he makes sure the planet is in order, he's not the best of people, a bloodlust in some cases, but at the end of the day is his hard servo what keeps everything on check, and is capable to do everything on his servo to keep said peace, to the point of destroying an entire city in name of that peace, the elite guard and enforcers always makes sure things stay on place, and Ereska is a good example of it
Ereska
The incident of Ereska is the name the people gave to the sad night an entire city was burned to ashes because of an explosion, a miner and farmer city that one day decided to unionize and... ended up wrong
The official version is that the energon mine colapsed and that produced a big, terrible explosion
But Boulder knows that's not true
The problem is that Boulder doesn't know much either about what actually happened
A relic, basically, an old brillaint magical sword that can be easily used by the owner, it contains light itself but not a mind, so, it doesn't choose its owner
Stories
Stories, legends and tales are the principal form of education in Terraquia, they show love, tell the sparklings and trasmit knowlegde through them, it is the base of society, which makes writers, teachers and narrators the simplest but the most respected professions through the land, stories and legends are a deep part of their culture, and is because of their oral and written tradition that they have succeed this far as culture and as community, that's another reason why adventurers are so respected too
The Light Sword
Heatwave is kind of stupid for thinking he was choose, he was not, he's just an idiot that knows how to use it, barely
The Black Hole Magician
It is said it is a spirit made of darkness with only white optics and black pupils, that steals powerful artifacts and tricks and kills its victims with forbidden spells, but its name comes from its ability to absorb sparks and objects, like a real black hole...
But it's just an urban legend
Or not?
Valley of the Sacred
It is said it was a Valley on the other side of the nothing, its montains and rivers are pure and each animal has their own way to be part of the cycle of life, there, a temple with all the story of Cybertronians and Terrans and all the artifacts and legends are put on paper and on its inmaculated walls
Valley of the Sacred is the perfect, beautiful place that protects the temple and their infinity knowledge, it is said every question can be answered there
But is is just a legend, nobody had found anything like that on life
Nonetheless, based on that story, and their own experiences, the Library Valley of the Sacred got its name
And yes, the name of the Au is because of a Library

Hello have you ever heard about the book called The Night I Danced With Rommel by Elisabeth Marrion? I've read the overview and it sounded like some kind of fanfiction (I would read) to me. 😅
No I haven't heard of it before, but I looked it up and now I'm kind of interested👀 Don't know if I'd get to read it anytime soon (I think my parents are getting a bit weirded out by me constantly ordering books related to WW2😭😂 I mean I'm an adult and can buy what I want but of course they still comment on it when I open my packages. I just really enjoy learning about it though!). I might put it on my list for later though! From what I understood it's based on some personal experiences of the author's mother, but I wouldn't assume it's entirely historically accurate (partly because of personal bias - from the title and description I'd guess it paints a rather positive picture of Rommel, and partly because fictionalising some elements just might make for a better story). I'm wondering though if I should rather read it in English or German, as far as I could find out just from googling, the author has written both versions by herself, but I wonder which one may convey the story better in this case.
Also I now got a bit curious about whether there are actual fanfictions about Rommel and looked it up just for the heck of it. I have to say, well, there's not a lot😅 First of all, there is only a small number of stories in English, most I found are written in Chinese so I can't understand them anyway. Among the ones I could understand, I found one x reader story that was extremely out of character (pointing this out because tbf I expected a lot more of these just based on how popular he is, but apparently I was wrong), otherwise most stories seem to be crossovers/AUs with various fandoms (many that I'm not familiar with, so I don't think it's really worth for me to read if he's just a minor character), and some topics are simply not my taste.
I only looked on Ao3 at the moment, but these are the stories that could be interesting and I might actually consider reading if I find the time (based on just their descriptions, mind you I haven't actually any of them properly past the first few sentences and have no idea if they're actually good):
Desert Fox Triumphant: Rommel beats the Allies in June 1944 - An alternate universe historical fanfiction where Rommel beats the allies in the Normandy, the description doesn't give away much, but it seems like Rommel is actually the main character which got me interested (plus my guy Fritz Bayerlein is listed among the characters so that's a personal bonus for me).
The Second Terran Sector War/Clone Wars - In this story apparently a bunch of important WW2 figures find themselves in the Star Wars universe and have to deal with that. Besides my history interest, I'm also a big Star Wars fan so this is a crossover that really intrigues me actually.
We'll Always Have Paris - An alternate universe fanfic set in the world of the Desert Peach comics. The content warnings include some heavy stuff so I'm not sure if I'll actually want to read it, but I'm curious about any fan content of the series in general, since there's not a lot of it out there in the first place.
Well, I have no idea how this post suddenly turned into Rommel fanfic recommendations😂 That was decidedly not planned, but actually kind of interesting to look into. Thinking that Rommel is generally regarded as a fascinating and even popular historical figure, I was surprised to find there's actually so little, so I felt like highlighting those that seem intriguing to me.

Tarek is my long-time roleplay OC, preserved in canon divergence form when our plot master left.
The AU would take too long to explain, so, briefly, all four nations the United Federation of Planets lived in peace a state of reasonably Cold War with its neighbours, until the Fire Nation the Terran Empire attacked accidentally found a way of bridging universe borders and conquered the Federation.
Dr. Tarek, full real name Kiles-ek T'ohk Taurik, is probably not really a doctor anymore, though you best believe he's a damn fine medical specialist, made to be this good by his immense inferiority complex. Child abuse survivor, torture survivor, his idiot best frenemy's toxicity survivor, he's probably survived too much at this point, to be frank. He'd be tried for treason if the Federation was still an actual interstellar superstate and not a number of scattered insurgent groups. He didn't actually want to commit treason - it was an accident, he just wanted to save his friends and that one toxic idiot.
Short king of questionable cisness. Chillest guy you've ever met until he runs out of chill, which he hasn't got very much of anymore. Speaks with a perfect British RP accent, until you ask him to say his full name in a sentence in English. Surprisingly good at punching people in the face.
Man's on the aroace spectrum and has severe touch aversion due to malfunctioning touch telepathy, so a "smash" will be appreciated as a platonic compliment, and any actual smashing attempts will result in a smashed face.

Halo Reloaded: The UNSC
Named "The United Nations Star Council" in this AU, my depiction of the UNSC is far less "morally-gray at best, straight up diabolical fascism at worst." I'm sure ther eare people who find that moral-ambiguity interesting, but the point of my AU, or at least of the things about it that DIVERGES it from the main universe, is that everything is supposed to be streamlined (plus, I'm a sucker for more straight-forward 'good vs evil' stories). While bad people can do bad things in the military, the UNSC is largely a force for good. Less the "Galactic Empire" (Star Wars) and more "The Terran Federation" (Starship Troopers). Instead of a shady, militaristic and authoritarian 'Big Brother' empire, it's a libertarian one-world republic that DOESN'T spy on it's citizens with 24/7 surveillance.
Of course, the UNSC has had little to no involvement with the Spartan-Programs Orion to III, all three of which were done behind the scenes by ONI.
The Spartan-II Program isn't nearly as bad as it is in-canon, but they still weaponize children all of the same and The UNSC was just as surprised as everyone else was. They shut down production of the Spartan-III Program after Ackerson got ousted, remeding the situation by placing the IIIs under the care of the II and prohibiting them from seeing battle until the IIs make the call (and most of them don't think the IIIs are ready for action). They can't reverse what's been done to them, it'll kill them; this was the best they could do: Give the IIIs families, families that are just like them and completely understand them.
The UNSC being a "Council" stems from it being, well... a council; it's led by Lord Hood, an admiral who is the head of the council. But in a more meta-sense, it's renamed "The United Nations Star Council" as a reference to the "United Earth Space Council" (the UESC) which is the leading government-body in the MARATHON series (Bungie's original Sci-Fi FPS before Halo and Destiny).

I just saw your post, and I also just watched Episode One and was absolutely furious about it. I've been looking forward to this season!
I was so into the thought of new baby Terrans! I was thrilled at the idea of Breakdown having a kid! That sounded awesome! Even with Aftermath giving me immediate Motormaster vibes, I was initially hopeful being like, Okay, maybe the Emberstone Theory about who last touched it affecting the creations is true.
Maybe Breakdown being in Menasor is going to be brought up.
Maybe we get to see Breakdown dealing with raising a baby Stubticon a la their G1 more wild personalities, and he gets to give them the parenting he didn't get.
Maybe it's going to be continuing the family and breaking abuse cycle themes. That could be cool. Let Aftermath have a rougher personality, but be a good kid. Let other Cons get babies, too.
But I got immediate ick with the descriptions of the "Chaos Terrans," by Alex. It makes no sense. And how they are "corrupted". What?! Hated that.
Me and my Roomie spent the entire time going "BUT WHY???" with the opening! I wanted to see the Cons and Bots working together! The relationships built last Season were fun! THAT WAS ALL THE FUN STUFF!
I loved Hashtag & Starscream and Tarantulas & Nightshade! So much was unpacking different trauma from the war on both sides.
Everyone has issues! Explore them! Continue the theme of not passing on your trauma to your kids and healing and a new generation without war! Getting the future, they all wanted just not how they wanted it!
And the Quintessons would have been a great villain! Especially with all the mucking about Quintus did and their call out with the Sharkticons! AND IN EPISODE TWO THE EVEN PLAY WITH IT BY DIRECTLY CONNECTING THE FACT THAT A QUINTESSON EXECUTIONER WAS ON THE HUNT FOR QUINTUS! WHY WOULD THEY NOT JUST USE IT!
THE DECEPTICONS COULD HAVE GONE FULL SANCTUARY STATION! IT WAS RIGHT THERE!
Sorry to rant, but your criticism was similar to my own! And now I am on the edge of pulling a full V.O.S. of my own on Earthspark. I am just gnashing my teeth at this. I have to write an Alt-Season Two or I'll scream. Worst part is this was supposed to be a treat for a stressful day. 😭
ACK how do I spoiler cut the ask itself?
Welp, I'll put a spoiler tag on it, hopefully people are filtering those.
*hugs*
Man I get it, you just got mad, didn't you? I watched it and I just got madder and madder and madder.
I guess I'm gonna have to steal some characters. Go write your alt-season-2. Make it RavWave and I'll love you forever.
I wanted Hashtag to bond with Star so fucking much. And Tara and Nightshade. I love Nightshade and Hashtag, tbh I'm not that interested in Twitch and Thrash.
I don't understand why they did any of this. A lot of people in places like TFW2005 were complaining about how "woke" they thought it was, maybe they decided to go back to G1, but holy fucking crap it just sucks. I'm not going to watch the rest of it. I might watch the episodes that Ravi and Wave are in, maybe, just to like, SEE them. But maybe not. I don't want this.
The thing about "pulling a VoS" is that it will grow. I thought I was going to write a story where Ravage left the Lost Light, went home to Soundwave, and everything was, well, not 100% fine, but as fine as it ever is in IDW. @sharkteethies and I were joking about how Ravage would get to be Prom Queen and Starscream would maybe mope a little (the Prom Queen jokes come from there, but I gave them to Swerve because Swerve.)
But then as things happen they snowball. Maybe you don't have to be like me and shove every character you ever loved from the rest of the franchise into one AU (they are all there because they fill a need though). But whether you do that or not, you eventually have to go into the past to figure out why things worked out different this time.
(I got to cheat some because briefcase.)
VoS gets very dark and "Every Day Is A Winding Road" is particularly bleak in places, but it has to get dark so the sun can rise.

AWAY…(have a ficlet From Latticeof Infinity/Elegy of Dead Kingdoms—from this shattered disaster of a crack SpaceRockOpera—the lyrics are from Nightwish’s, ‘Away’. Because some divine being posted 4+ hours of Nighwish’s Top50–and this song embraces quite the Theme of this segment from my particular AU crossover of StarWars-through TTT/HandofcThrawn/Merged Dark Empire1/Shadows of Mindor/events of the YuhzanVong War with Firefly/Serenity, and the Keltiad-squished into the Firefly ‘verse as an Independent system…)
~
“Away, away, away in time Every dream's a journey away Away, away, to a home away from care Everywhere's just a journey away
Cherish the moment Tower the skies Don't let the dreamer Fade to gray like grass…”
~
The first time Thrawn kissed Rhyanon it was after he’d destroyed a fair bit of the Galaxy by collapsing the Wormhole connecting the Terran quadrant with the quadrant of the Imperial Remnant still in conflict with the Republic Alliance. He had good intentions, because there was really no other way to slow Abaddon. But, the fallout by anyone’s measure, even megalomaniacs like the long-deceased Sith, Palpatine, proved a little apocalyptic.
Thrawn, of course, had a contingency plan for the survivors, leading them to the old ruins of the 2nd Death Star, which existed in a sort of fluctuating twilight-world of shifting space-time corridors. An after-effect of the cataclysm imploding through the continuums of the meta-verse.
Amid other events leading to this moment, Rhyanon eventually found him kneeling in the sands of the Oceans of Time, staring off into a horizon of fire and storm and cosmic winds. Pain and anger stained their shared past, dating back years to her time as a courtesan-trained-medic while in Palpatine’s court, when Thrawn was promoted to Grand Admiral on the eve of the Emperor’s death.
Until this moment, she never would have suspected Thrawn capable of suffering as other sentients. Loss, the great price of sacrificing the Ascendency to stall Abaddon’s dark ravaging of planetary systems, wrought lines of weariness heavy upon his brow, around his mouth. The shadow haunting the scarlet eyes cut raw in her heart.
Thrawn asked if her people, the Keltoi, had a word for the kind of grief that formed a void beyond emptiness. “A ballad or a lay, perhaps?” His words stumbling out in that eloquent cadence of velvet and steel, edged in bitterness. “The Keltoi—the legendary race of warrior-poets.”
Rhyanon couldn’t recall any from her youth. But then, her youth had been stolen prematurely, swept away by a brutal act of violence, taking her from everything she’d known and loved.
A memory came to her then, of her brother. Bard-trained Talhaiarn, an officer of the Keltoi fleet in service to the Ardrian Aeron Aoibhell. Warriors, the Keltoi as the Chiss, and Talhiarn renowned as a fearless pilot, a devoted commander. He’d indulged music’s magic as an escape from the horrors of war.
As she knelt before Thrawn, Rhyanon spoke gently. “I may have no verse to offer, but my brother often says the first song was born of sorrow so deep, words were inadequate to lift such sadness to the skies.”
Thrawn’s grief, his remorse, buried under the armor born of leadership, broke through, etched in rivulets of moisture, liquid garnet, like blood, rolling down his azure cheeks.
Rhyanon, with her biokinesis, accessed the nanoplexus integrated into her central nervous system. A graceful curl of her wrist, bend of a finger, she directed a green-gold plasmic current, capturing, analyzing the composition of his tears. The microscopic manifesting as vision, the molecular shaped into an endless weaving of threads imparting life. The profundity of sorrow captured like a globular prism, a raindrop, a teardrop, restless as the cosmic storms ravaging the horizon of this liminal plain.
“Chiss lacrimal secretions,” she murmured as he stared at the mirage coalesced between them, rapt by her enchantment, “while differing in certain constituents, hold a similar salinity to human tears, an osmolarity nearly matching the ocean waters.”
Rhyanon tried offering some other surcease beyond an academic text, wiping at a blood-tinged track from against his cheek. “Our tears flow, as our lives, and our griefs, rivers washed into the Sea where all things end. And emerge again.”
He searched her face, trying to find some salvation from the decisions he’d made. Dreamlike, she slowly leaned toward him, hearing his muted gasp at the softness of her lips upon his cheeks, his dark lashes, wet, salt like human tears—why would she expect differently—where she kissed away his silent sorrow. His surrending sigh as she chastely brushed his mouth with hers, held the synchronicity of their breath, shared in this precious moment.
When Rhyanon drew back, she seemed as mystified as he, her action leaving them both pensive. Her eyes drifted shut, as she turned from the wonder in Thrawn’s look.
And in those moments where Rhyanon still seemed held by that light first brush of lips, Thrawn, utterly mesmerized, reached toward her, her eyelids fluttering wide as he guided her face close. Before she could tense back, his mouth claimed hers, thirsting, seeking, wanting. Her breath caught in surprise, but she responded, easing to the exploration of lips and tongue, eyes closing once more, lost to the taste of warmth, and the heady euphoria of wandering hands, his arms encompassing her supple form, her hands clinging onto his shoulders and neck… ~ It was said, of the 5 Greatest Kisses in the Galaxy, this one was ranked somewhere in the top 10. A true Cold Mountain performance, as Kaylee might have approximated. Had she been there to witness the Kiss. But because no one of the Serenity crew, or the Wilde Kaarde had any idea what transpired between the biokinetically gifted Keltoi medic, and the former Grand Admiral, now Supreme Commander of the Imperial Remnant united with the Empire of the Hand, and they only found out about it after-the-fact, it was ranked in the top 10, without ever receiving any explicit ordinal denomination.
The Republic Alliance and the Fringe systems of the Terran Core were amid a truce with the Empire of the Hand, but the split of forces on either side of the spatial conduit had delayed progress. The conundrum of truncating communication and travel in the absence of the wormhole left River Tam with a puzzle more entertaining than figuring out how to overcome the thousands of meteors orbiting Coruscant, utilizing the antiquated tracking of spatial aquatonics, accelerated by River’s unique talents. A mind operating in fractal domains, dimensional analytics reducing equations to a few hours, that would have taken the Republic’s best physicists a month, she needed something else now, to keep her distracted, or the sound of Abaddon’s Reaver-Hybrid Clones, never far from her consciousness, might threaten the precarious hold she’d only recently recovered of her sanity after Miranda.
Thus, on that rare evening while Rhyanon and Thrawn continued groping and caressing each other like teenagers riding passion’s hormonal tidal wave, Ar’alani was subjected to learning why Terran humans seemed so obsessed with quoting script-lines from long-dead movies. A favorite of these oft-repeated one-liners: “as you wish,” Jayne, Serenity’s weapons-happy muscle-man, babbled every time Ar’alani drifted somewhere in his general vicinity.
This was the penance for losing the Girls’ Night Drinking Game to Zoe and Saffron—aka Mara Jade. Subjected to Jayne’s movie-night choice of Old Terra’s cinematic selection stored in Serenity’s archives. Who knew a man who strolled through civilian markets with a rocket-launcher on his shoulder because ya never knew what fruit-vendor might turn into an assasin indulged a secret fetish for romances.
Resignedly, Ar’alani settled back on the worn cushions of the sofa, housed in a back storage pit of the ramshackle smuggling ship. Serenity gloried in its disarray and disrepair like a flick-off to Talon Kaarde’s well-maintained vessel, and orderly crew.
Stale beer and cigara fumes filtered through the air of Serenity’s makeshift entertainment center, holos projecting what Jayne swore as the greatest movie of all time.
“Want some?” Jayne asked, rattling a bowl of heat-reactive seed kernels under her nose, crunching down on a fluffy piece of styrofoam-looking cellulose lathered in butter and salt.
Ar’alani’s expression puckered at the charred pungency of fumes wafting from the bowl, and altogether overwhelming for the refined senses of Chiss olfactory centers. “No, thank you,” she said, trying to keep the forebearsnce from her voice, seeing Jayne’s puppy-dog eyes. “And if you say, as you wish one more time, I’ll dump those seed kernels—popcorn—“the word awkward from her throat”— over your head.”
A mistake, she realized, quickly learning females speaking in a commanding voice only made Jayne more moon-eyed. Which was enough for Ar’alani to toss back another Ewok microbrew.
Keth roach piss would have tasted sweeter*, she thought spurring another curse at Thrawn for bringing them to this lost twilight realm. The crash site of his old Emperor’s mad battalion of destruction. She chokied down the beverage, because drunk was the only way she could envision sustaining Jayne’s company for the next 2 hours, and hoped whatever involved the Supreme Commander in that moment, it was either thoroughly tormenting or worse, boring to the point of death.
When she learned later, the indulgence that had indeed occupied Thrawn, she had no regret for the data-pad aimed at his head from across the conference desk of his office. Thrawn caught the object effortlessly of course, which irked her all the more. Fuming, Ar’alani stalked out from the office, vowing over her shoulder as she exited between the sliding doors, Thrawn could spend the next movie-night subjected to Jayne’s visual art tastes, his rancid popcorn, and cheap alcohol. She heard the low laughter in her wake, the words, “As you wish,” reaching her as the doors whisked shut.
For a moment, she considered turning back around, marching through the doors, up to Thrawn, glaring fire to match the subtle teasing glint in his eyes. And stuffing as you wish right back at him.
As entertaining as the vision was, of smashing a few more data-pads over Thrawn’s polished composure, Ar’alani prided herself on possessing the rare trait of taking the high-road, as the saying went.
Especially because of the laughter. That had been good to hear. Clean, honest laughter, something like joy and the bravado she recalled when Thrawn had been an infuriating captain under her command.
After all the loss, the death, and decimation swallowing their Galaxy, with Abaddon, and forces of the Coroniad-Virathi [read: my analog to the Grysk, but adapted from the Keltiad verse] still afoot. It was the first time she’d heard that sound from him in decades. And if it took basting the Keltoi medic—Mal Reynolds kept calling her Gaia—in reference to some ancient Terran goddess that recalled Rhyanon’s abilities of organic molecular manipulation. Well, Ar’alani decided, if this was what followed a good basting for Thrawn, it was better than the melancholy devouring him since the Battle of the Event Horizon.
So, she held her peace that day, hope’s candle, a flicker in the storm, but present, wakening for the first time since she’d led the few Chiss survivors to this rendezvous of Endor, fleeing their home-worlds, a cold rage constricting her chest, watching Csilla’s incinerated caracass fade away like a million ashes blasted across the Star-ways.
Hope, that flickering candle in Ar’alani’s mind. She strode down the passage to the main hanger-port, notified of General Skywalker’s return with a new collection of refugees from the Infernal Regions bordering the dimensional rift left by the Wormole’s collapse, dubbed Ginngungagap, after some other archaic Terranism.
Echoing through her mind, with that candle, the words, As you wish, yourself, Vu’rawn.

Since we’re talking Star Wars AU today, hear me out...
La’an and Manu are both force-sensitive who were supposed to get trained as Jedi, but their ship got ambushed by the Gorn, worshippers of the Sith and the siblings were separated during the attack.
Having had to witness the brutal murder of her family (and believing her brother to be dead too - in the original idea he was supposed to stay dead but I change it now), La’an turns to the dark side, following in the footsteps of her ancestor, the legendary Sith lord Darth Khan.
Manu ends up being rescued by a ship and gets brought to the Jedi temple on Vulcan where he befriends the son of the head of the temple, S'chn T'Gain Spock who is in secret alliance with Starfleet, a rebel organisation fighting against the growing oppression of Emperor Georgiou and the Terran Galactic Empire.
Unwilling to accept his sister's dark fate, Manu asks Spock for help and they set out to find La’an, but she fights them. Spock sacrifices himself so that Manu can escape and gets captured, while Manu seeks help from Spock’s friends on the rebel’s flagship, the legendary Millennium Enterprise (you can bet Erica can fly the Kessel Run in under 12 parsecs!).
La’an interrogates Spock in order to get information on the rebels for Emperor Georgiou, but Spock refuses to cooperate and uses a mind meld to connect with La’an and make her remember who she was before she fell to the dark side, throwing her into a whirlwind of confusing feelings - her grief and rage over her lost family, her shock over seeing her brother alive, her unexpected attraction to Spock.
Manu and the rebels return to fight against the Empire. Manu confronts La’an again and both fight each other, though Manu is holding back as he refuses to hurt his little sister. When it looks like La’an is about to kill him, she hesitates as the resurfaced memories from the mind meld overwhelm her. Feeling horrified over having turned into the same kind of monster that murdered their parents and almost having killed her brother, La’an breaks down and can finally break free from the hold of the dark side. She leaves with her brother and Spock to join Starfleet in their fight against the Empire.
Edit: After sleeping on it, I now think Manu would make an excellent Mandalorian bounty hunter.
Working on a gif set and now I can’t unsee this Star Wars AU…
Rebel (Jedi) Spock and Sith La’an…

Freedom Fighters space opera AU
This. I like this. I guess technically these fit more alongside the idea of "sword and planet" or "sword and stars", but eh. It's close enough.
The "Freedom Fighters" are a group of smugglers/bounty hunters, mostly doing good with a little bit of bad. They travel the galaxy aboard their ship, the Gaipan, just trying to pick up the pieces of themselves they left behind in the "War in Heaven" between the Firestar Empire and the Terran Kingdom that tore the galaxy apart when they were kids.
Jet is the snarky, wise-cracking captain, Longshot his taciturn second in command and pilot. Smellerbee is the weapons and demolitions expert, Pipsqueak the cook - complete with the eyepatch and prosthetic hand, because every sci-fi ship needs to follow Treasure Planet's example and have a funky cook with a weird hand - and the Duke is a much-younger thief that Pipsqueak adopted during the War. Sneers, meanwhile, is the ship's supremely grumpy A.I. who just kind of shows up when he feels like it.
They have a pet space whale. Well, they it a pet, but they're not really sure what it actually does - it just kinda follows them around, system to system, and they don't really know why. They even asked Jet's ex, Katara, an expert in interstellar life, and all she could do was shrug, because it mystified her, too. (Its name is Whale, per suggestion from The Duke.)
Longshot and Smellerbee have a tendency to, uh, disappear for several hours at a time. The Duke always wonders why, and Pipsqueak and Jet find it hilarious that the kid hasn't figured out that they're dating yet. (It's not that The Duke is pretending to be stupid as a joke - he seriously just hasn't figured it out, and no one is sure how he hasn't.)
Jet is madly in love with an expert hacker and martial artist from a rival crew named Ty Lee. This usually ends up causing the Gaipan to lose out on contracts, mostly by accident because she and Jet end up getting stuck in ridiculous situations together, and both the rest of the Freedom Fighters and Dangerous Ladies have to take time to find them and get them out of their sticky situation. It's gotten so bad that there's a betting pool between the crews on how long it takes them to end up stuck.
I hate you now, Orange, because I really want to write this. Or something like it.
