Why Cody Burns succeeded where Rafael Esquivel failed

Honestly, Raf is one of those characters I never thought much of, in part because he was so forgettable. More often than not in Prime, Raf was just the sweet baby who everybody thought the world of and wanted to keep out of harm's way, even though the most he ever did in the show was provide technical help with Earth machinery or play the part of innocent child. This was not helped by the fact that he was buddy-ed up with the mute Bumblebee, who's sole contributions up until his two part arc and the series finale was additional man power and adorable mimic. While this was good for background humor, it ultimately did nothing to the overall storyline in the series, both for Raf and for Bee, and for the series itself.

By contrast, Cody Burns - the resident team baby, beloved by all and unwaveringly helpful in rescue missions - stood out far more than Raf. And what's more, is that he never had "his own" Autobot/Cybertronian partner, when literally his whole family had one of their own.

Allow me to delve into this, hopefully, final observatory post regarding the TFP kids.

Of all the humans, we quite frankly get the least out of Raf. We know he's a prodigy, given that he's twelve (and a quarter) and jumped straight into the same classes as Miko and Jack, the former of whom is no slouch as I've already covered. We're shown that his family allows him free reign of Jasper, as he's playing by himself near the road, although he's alone. That tells us that his family is either extremely lax in their attention for their youngest child, or that Jasper is an actually safe location for a kid who's barely filling out his shoes to be on his own. Whether or not either option is true, that's dangerous and shows that Raf goes unnoticed by his family. I'm not saying they're abusive or willfully neglectful of him, but this points us to the conclusion that Raf has a very lonely home life, and we already know that he's got zero friends until he meets the Autobots.

This could have been a great plot-point for the series: by giving Team Prime a small child with no one for company, the writers could have more clearly given the Autobots hope for the future of the War/after the War, while Raf could have gained confidence and security from having people who actually cared and listened to him. It could have been fun, having him be the human cycling through the Autobots for various needs. Imagine Raf going to Optimus for comfort after another day of feeling ignored, talking to Arcee for ideas on how to stand up to Vince (being the sole child in class makes you a target, after all), or coming to Bulkhead for how to struggle through the physical aspects of his school regimen (i.e. the time he brought up the rope climbing to Ratchet.) The possibilities were endless.

But instead, he's specifically handed over to Bee. Bee, who is the disabled child that is also largely forgotten, and who, while he does bond with Raf and provide him with much needed company, offers nothing else in the way of development or storylines. We got something marginally better when Raf started spending time with the grumpy grandpa that is Ratchet, which was great to highlight Ratchet's soft side that nurtures his own character progression, but it's not enough for Raf's development. I greatly prefer the company of the Autobots to the human characters in virtually every series, but there needs to be a noticable human presence to ground the Autobots' protective instincts toward Earth and to push along the story. Raf ended up being a token character not even halfway through the first season, which is a shame given his potential, especially since he and Bee ended up being background décor.

Now, as a counterpoint, we come to Cody Burns.

Like Raf, Cody is the youngest child of the Burns clan - and I say clan because his family has been the one providing Griffin Rock's safety and protection for about...roughly three hundred years? (Correct me if I'm wrong, but his family were the ones in-universe to discover the island. Thus, there's a large claim and respect to his family's name.) His father Charlie is the chief of police; his oldest brother Kade is the chief firefighter; his older sister Dani is the helicopter pilot and primary search and rescue operator; and his brother Graham, who's about eight years older than ten year old Cody, is already a chief engineer and inventor himself. Clearly, Cody has an impressive family. Clearly, they're the best of the best, and he couldn't be prouder of them.

And clearly, Cody feels the need to earn his stripes given their talents and the family's reputation.

A recurring subplot in Rescue Bots is how Cody is insecure about his role on the team, and that often leads him to attempt to provide help and find his place in life in the family. Sometimes, this works; although he's often left monitoring the situations across the island at home through the cameras, Cody finds ways of giving advice or pointing out a hazard that the others are oblivious to that would have likely killed them. And this is a noble occupation his fills, with his aid saving many lives and much trouble.

However, sitting around and merely being an observer wears on him. It makes him restless, and he often seeks aid from the 'Bots to figure out his problems before typical shenanigans ensue that rectify the current episode's dilemma.

This is an important part of Cody's characterization because while he does occasionally feel left out/ignored by his family, he understands it is because of their duties. Charlie has to daily wrangle different criminals and legal offenses while Graham is eagerly going to town on his latest project. Kade and Dani each have their own lives that are beginning and that they're pursuing, but additionally maintain an intense sibling rivalry due to them being not even three years apart. Thus, while they're seeing they're respective girlfriend and boyfriend, they're also competing in various childish ways that, sometimes, result in massive fights. It's no small wonder Cody rarely goes to them for advice.

For this, he's left with the 'Bots, and because they view him as their darling little brother who inspires them every day to give the humans of Griffin Rock and Earth a chance, they listen and advise him. Heatwave is the oldest of the 'Bots, and thus more experienced; additionally, Heatwave more than once nearly threw in the towel in the early days, but only relented due to Cody's convictions and virtues. Therefore, while they have a special bond without it being the sole focus, Cody tends to run to Heatwave the most when emotionally unwell and Charlie is unavailable. Heatwave in turn gives him comfort and advice, and backs him up in most situations. Chase is one he less often seeks help from, mostly due to Chase's nature of being a rigid rulebook. Most times Cody helps Chase understand human expressions and terms when Charlie is busy or otherwise engaged, with both their efforts helping the police 'Bot to loosen up. There are times when he needs Chase's input, as strange as that aid might be, and Cody doesn't hesitate to seek it.

Boulder he goes to almost as regularly as Heatwave, and the two get along fantastically. Boulder provides him with loving company he's hungry for, and sound advice without being overbearing. Blades sometimes needs more encouragement than anything, and thus Cody plays the rare part of helping guide someone through their numerous fears. Because of that, the 'copter 'Bot is extremely loyal and protective of Cody, and when Cody does ask for his help or companionship, Blades readily gives it. Sometimes, Blades will even go above and beyond what is asked, and never asks for anything in return.

These are healthy, constantly growing relationships that Cody develops with the 'Bots, as well as magnificent characterizations that are always expanding. While the focus tends to be shown through Cody's eyes or centered around him, it never fixates on him more than is necessary. Rather, by setting him up as the show's heart, the writing team is able to stretch out towards arcs related to other characters, both the 'Bots and their specific partners, and the other human cast members who interact with the 'Bots on a less frequent basis.

This is how Cody takes the potential of Raf from Prime and not only runs with it, but builds up countless heartwarming moments and strong characterizations over the course of Rescue Bots' run. Cody is positively and rightly shown as the glue of the family element of the show, and is given the autonomy to maintain his own personality and growth without being forgotten like Raf consistently was. That's why Cody stands out, and poor Raf is left hanging.

Well, that's my thoughts on the matter. I felt I should tackle Raf, given I covered his two peers, and Cody is a cute, fun, and constantly evolving counterpart to Raf that explains much of why I feel the poor baby of Team Prime was ultimately misused and unnecessary. I hope you enjoyed this, and that it got some gears turning in your heads.

Ok- hear me out,

A TFRB au/fanfic where everything is (almost, it includes my hc and ships) the same but one day, all the team and relatives meet by accident versions of themselves from another universes because those versions decided today it was a good day to explore and ended up in a portal to another place

And yes, this post is only to yap with you about these alt. versions 》:) and most of it doesn't have sense but here I am sharing my vision from early with you because I have the need to share it

Part 2 and Three

You'll see, I was okay, going to bath, and then, suddenly: BOOM, THE IDEA

These strange characters that came from nowhere and not knowing where are they because everything at the island is so different, and not just that, they are also different

And that's how the shenanigans starts

Now, the characters (because I want to):

Everything started with a storm, in the middle of the storm a portal was made, and from it, stars like a galaxy formed under the lighting and thunder

It was Heatwave, the Star-Catcher

This Heatwave comes from a universe I call "From Stars and Above", you'll see: stars as the first creation are the most powerful magic to exist, because of this, beings know as Star-Catchers exist, they document, control and see Magic, they're like gods, even more powerful, Heatwave is one of them, one who sent himself to a far away planet dominated by magic to learn from it, bored of his old life, meeting later his new guides through the big planet, Chase, a spirit from the Black World (which is like a void of shadows) that barely talks, Boulder, a wood and stone golem made to protect wild life, and Blades, a gull-like that for once wanted to be brave and became part of the team, since then they explore the Earth and the magic that inhabits it

As a Star-Catcher, Heatwave can make magic, multiple types, and his favorite is Light and Star magic, and because of it he accidentaly made some... accidents through Griffin Rock

In fact, Heatwave does not know what a Human is, same with all their tech, and this Heatwave's personality is more extravagant and smiley than usual, so, that makes it just... worst

From the same storm, but now to the ground, in the middle of a ramdom park, a lighting stroke, is still unsure why, but a big bot, in black and white with blue and red lights, came out of it, unsure how his yunk yard was this... normal

It was Chase, the autobot traitor

From the Shattered Glass universe, an ex-enforcer that worked for the autobots, bored and in danger, who decided to go from the planet without telling anyone with a psycopath of a decepticon, a dumb dinobot and a coward terrorcon by pure coincidence and accident to a random planet in the middle of nowhere named Earth, ending on the yunk yard of an island, and well, humans are noisy, and they needed the tech...

Because of the strange teleportation and his chaotic behavior, Chase was almost inmediatly neutralized and closed up on a electrified cell, but of course, this Chase has the same level of inteligence, but not the same level of respect of our normal Chase, he got out of it in nothing

In no time, as another lighting stroke and feathers fly near the forest, with light, another... being appeared

It was Blades, an... angel?

Came from an universe where everything was the same, Blades didn't recognized what was different, not until he saw himself and the rest of his team, and they looked normal

This Blades was as far as more calm and less shy than the usual, nonetheless he could still be a coward when threatened. He's not of shenanigans but still can do things

He's by far the most strange looking of his team, all of them because of Moroco (and the Greenes by accident). You'll see: Moroco once tried to mind control the bots, but instead, he convert the team in monsters, permanently

ANNE'S NOTE: this idea started as a halloween hc and now became an entire Au because I can and I want and I'm sure KO would love to see a werewolf Chase and because all the shit can happen is so unhiged and I needed that. Heatwave was supposed to be a vampire but Gelu told me something that illuminated me so, now he's a sea monster, Boulder's a fairy (more of a plant druid but you get it), Chase's a werewolf and Blades is like an angel (Mark Twain's movie fault, damn you Satan, you're unhighed and disturbing as fuck and I like you for that, you bitch)

The lighthing stroke, and from the salty water of the sea, a green bot in large old robes and a wood crosier with a brilliant stone emerged

Boulder, the Mage, rised

Yes, I like dramatic introductions

This Boulder is almost the opposite to the normal Boulder in lots of aspects, they're serious, analitic as fuck and kind of apathic, result of their hard life and dark magic, and to be in a world they do not recognize doesn't help

Boulder comes from a universe I call Adventure Bots, a universe that combines vaporpunk, Middle Earth and Dungeons and Dragons, in this universe Boulder was a dark magic mage with Graham, until Boulder started to abuse of it, and suffering the consequences, decided to change their path and search for an important gem that would grant any kind of wish to the mage that could use it properly

Nonetheless the path got complicated a lot and Boulder ended up learning Star-Touch magic as a way to replace dark magic before ending their mission

Despite how serious this Boulder can be, they didn't evade the scare, and of course, they almost kills Salvage because Boulder thought it was an illusion or something worse, and also fighthed against SG!Chase themself (and won, with no crosier needed)

And that's all by now, I'll talk about the others in a later post :D

Just had a thought transformers prime and rescue bots take place in the same universe. Now I’ve seen some interesting takes for some interesting crossovers between the two but I just had a thought. We all know knockout resident diva who fancies himself a medic

This man. now he’s known for his red paint and his desire to keep it pristine. Well in rescue bots there is one thing that the bots could use to at least distract our beloved racer

This mechanical bull that was programmed to hate the color red. Now all I can imagine is knockout running around the island and this bull chasing after him breakdowns low key trying not to laugh and starscream has lost that battle and is on the ground in hysterics. And then you know something something the power of Cody and suddenly there all friends and the war is over. Optimus got a hold of the shrink rey and is now keeping megatron wherever he stached the Energon vampire.

I did the 4 bots

Now let's make the human team (Greenes and villains not included because that's too damn much)

This time there was lighthing, but nothing came, at least at view, but from the sky and in a robotic suit, the old man, blinded by a curse, started his new plan to go back home

The name? Police Chief Charlie Burns...

And yes, this is the Charlie Burns from @gelu-the-babosa-multiversal 's miraculous ladybug au, why? Because I thought it would be funny to have a corrupt mecha police officer and the Akumatized Jhon Wick x Robocop son in the same room (joke)

Charlie, blinded by Hawk Moth's moth, became a suit of armor full of the best tech with the only objetive of make his island and family safe, but well, things happens, and he became kind of... cuckoo

Also, ref post because I know mine is not enough and I think this is really good, despite I’m not a miraculous fan

Despite the lighthing stroke at the founder's statue, everybody were at their homes to notice, except by someone, who deep in the caverns and old tunnels, explored for a way out, finding a large and tall hallway full of strange tech and almost unuseful but fascinating, but what he was about to see wouldn't be fascinating

Now the young Kade Burns was about to see what could have been

Why this Kade waked up on the tunnels and was about what could have been? Because the Heatwave he knew was the mere person who made part of the more terrible times for humans

You’ll see: this Kade Burns is a rescuer, yes, one who comes from an island in the middle of nowhere, he never met the outside world and does not have interest on it, nonetheless, despite he can consider the Heatwave of his universe a friend, he’s still conflicted about Heatwave, because this Kade comes from the universe (that is one of my faves) that I call: Hunters of the Cosmos, an au that works as what if Onyx and Quintus were the only survivors of the war against Unicron, making Predacons the only existing race and by defect, changing the curse of history. In this au, Predacons conquered Earth because Cybertron wasn’t inhabitable anymore, after many years of being only legends, they killed humans on the try and made the place their home. Now, Kade’s shenanigan will be the fact that his universe was brought as that in pain and suffering, when in this one, cybertronians almost came peacefully, it was a shock for Kade how different everything could have been. Also the fact this Kade is more responsible and serious than normal Kade, which for normal Kade is interesting but kind of boring (I LOST THE FUCKING POST THAT TALKED ABOUT THE AU)

With the sound of thunder that fell on a tree, and same with the architect, the sky only seemed to get worse and worse, he didn’t had another but to found refuge as far as possible from the forest, yes, this was strange, but he didn’t have time to think of why he was on another side of the island he got off time ago, not if he wanted to evade the storm

With that, Graham ran with all he could

Despite it sounds normal, it isn’t, this is the Graham from @oldeubagel ‘s shattered glass universe (and theres a lot of TRFB SG universes because Hasbro never gave us one)

The reference post is this one but in context and in short, Graham’s life was mostly sad and miserable, studying hard only to get out of the island as possible evading his shitty family and yes, he became rich really fast (and also drug addicted but those are details), one of the things it would be funny to explore is his relationship with the Kade from Hunters of the Cosmos and the normal Kade, most like a reconciliation that he will never had with his own brother, mostly because these Kades actually care and would never call him a traitor for leaving :v, and also mirrorshiping sound funny (I completely let all the fault on you Bagel, those draws were too good to ignore (and Graham in green looks great))

Despite thinking her end was near, it wasn’t, the only thing that disturbed her was the light and the terrible sound, it felt like if she just was throw out of the lightning itself and this storm was everything but normal, she knew these type of storms, they were usual all the time at home, she just never thought one of the lightning would reach for her, right now, Dani, flying as fast as her tiny wings let her through some drops of water on the storm, needed answers, and a place to stay the night

HAHA, we needed more fantasy Au’s, now, people, Dani, but on fairy :D, she’s not normal and almost watchable, tiny and fast (too much), at home she’s a wind fairy, and also a good racer, maybe the best athlete of all never land

And yes, those storms are normal for her, where she lives is a valley full of magic, magic that sometimes can get angry and out of control, her brother Graham knows more about it, but basically, the lightnings were so full of magic that everything was possible, even sending someone to another universe, or even changing of universe…

The kid was alone, not the first time and he wasn’t surprised, things got out of hands since he discovered he was a prime, but this was definitely the most weirdest thing possible he could ever live know, Griffin Rock was the same, but the kid he had in front was equal to him, the same, like a mirror

Cody knew something wasn’t right, well, nothing was right, he just thought he could help the people trapped in the storm… but now the trapped one was he

Chase hitted with closed fist the bars of the cell, the lighthing, of course scared both kids, specially the griffin, all his feathers growed up in fear

Chase's whole fist looked black, burned, but he never mocked or said anything, not even his faceplate said anything

SG Chase: I don't fear you, Prime. Do you fear me now?

MULTIVERSE MEETING AT SHITTY STORM :DDDDDDD

part 1 and part 2, this is part three

And now, the side robo-team :D

A moment ago she was fighthing for her life on a pit that looked almost like hell, now she's expecting something, she's not of expect, things like this are not supposed to happen, this is maybe the most abnormal thing she has ever lived since Cybertron's destruction, and despite how peaceful it looked in the storm, she had people to protect in that hell she came from, Quickshadow needed to go back

Yesssssss, the girl :D

This Quickshadow comes from a universe I call "Apocalypse", a universe where Shockwave's experiments went way too wrong and giant eel-like creatures started to roam and eat the energon and metal of the planet until it got dry, unfortunately, energon is not enough for a space ship, and they are all trapped in the planet

Quickshadow is both a warrior and an explorer, kills tiny eels and evades the big ones and is fully respected in her camp, which is in the middle of the ruins that the eels think are empty

The shenanigan? She thought she came alone, but she didn't, a baby eel came with her and traumatized Boulder by trying to kill it (but the final strike had it the Mage Boulder and Chihiro)

This... was different, Salvage had never seen something so beautiful as this storm, he got outside to see it, he was almost unkillable, he thought it was nothing, but it was, now he's on another place, also meeting what could have been

Salvage from Hero!Au, an au where Optimus Prime had the gift to be sent to his young days after being killed by Megatron with all the Prime's relics, but accidentaly got lost until it felt on the servos of different bots, Salvage and Blurr were two of them, and thanks to it, both got powers, which with time, Salvage used for good and Blurr used for vengeance

The Salvage of the Hero!Au is by far more melancholic and sad than the normal Salvage, he likes to protect the people, but is draining, he could use this to relax, but in any moment Blurr could come, and he needed to be there

The shenanigan? He's the fucking cybertronian Superman and both normal Salvage and normal Blurr are fascinated by it

Usually when something weird happens (which is normal) Blurr calls Chase, KO or Breakdown, but none of them are at the view, and the beings that filled the place are so damn weird, like, how can this green big thing exist? It looked like a tree but it was by far different from the ones at home, same with the storm... gooddamit, where was she????

You already know this one, this is Blurr from Outlier Au! And yes, she will cry for damn long because she miss her dads

Maybe something that they never expected was that Blurr could be so damned annoying, and then Outlier!Blurr came and comfirmed she could have been even more annoying than usual

This Blurr, despite they have the same personality, is more sensible and emphathetic than normal Blurr, so, is really different to handle with both

"...WHERE THE FUCK AM I?!?!?!" said the young bulldozer who a moment ago fell on the fucking Bermuda’s triangle Griffin Rock edition in the middle in a storm and now is on another storm in a place where’s he’s older, grumpier and married

High Tide will be maybe the most funny because this comes from MY swap au, where the rescue team is not the rescue team and the new rescue team are younger and dumber versions of Orion Pax, Quickshadow, High Tide and Bumblebee

This High Tide doesn’t have the experience of the older High Tide, and that condemns him to be so damned idiot sometimes, which also makes Boulder loss their patience, and that’s a lot

As the storm roared on the way, the bot, maybe bigger than all the team, tried to reach the storm, the same she passed before ending in this island, she needed to get back with her bots, but another strike of lightning fell directly between her wings

She fell near the rocks of the lighthouse, the Rescue Team, despite being busy with their new members, were still were rescue bots, they had a job to do

But this new member wasn’t the one who received help easily

They didn’t knew why she was here, she didn’t looked like any of them…

Later they would knew that, from a universe where decepticons were desperate because of Megatron and Optimus' deaths, cloned Megatron with a young, new spark, creating not just a new leader but a killing machine, bigger than a plane, weaponed till the dentae and even more analitic, Megatron, but better

Not just the opaque colors but the height and personality. No one expected that was actually Sissi, the little drone cadet that doesn’t even pass the 4 meters and likes webcomics. For Breakdown I wanted to use an Au where he survives from Silas' mind and resucites thanks to the dark energon (and Arachnid) (and he still looks like came from hell)

For Soundwave I wanted to use a mecha Au, where they're a human that moves a big mecha (humanformers mecha au inspired by @/keferon's mecha au)

For Shockwave I wanted to use the Sweet Tooth au where, when he's an adult he manages to get his own mecha too. Remember the Sweet Tooth au is a humanformers au where some characters are hybrids, Shock is half-wolf

For Borealis I wanted to use the Borealis from 13 Primes au where she's a terrorcon created directly by Unicron, on the same way Primus created the 13, and yes, she's something like an herald of chaos

For Predaking I wanted to use an Au where everything was the same in TFP, except that Predaking is actually the obedient pet Megatron wanted, and his shenanigans were a monster in town

For Bulkhead I was thinking of Bulkhead in Animated, I mean, he's a sweetie and it would be funny!

For Bee I was thinking of, literally, all depictions of Baby Bee Au, where he was created during the war and he's Optimus' cutsie baby (and his obvious shenanigan is he missing his papa)

Pairing: Predaking x Boulder x Heatwave

Au: adventure bots

Things finally feel kind of normal, Boulder haven’t bleed out again and at least could keep food on their tanks for time, they could walk normally, and the mark on their wrist didn’t burned as before, which means the weird type of curse Boulder had is almost gone, but if the mark is still there, is because there’s still something to kill

At least everything seemed normal

But to have normalcy with a mage close was everything but normal

Boulder haven’t casted a spell since the accident, not even a simple light, which they usually do when low or sad, but nothing came from their servos or from their crosier, which was really strange

“Hey pumpkin” Heatwave almost murmured with an unusual sweet voice he only uses with his dearests, getting closer and sitting alongside them on the grass, same did Predaking but in silence

“hi” Boulder said like whispering

“You look under the weather, do you feel okay?”

“I’m fine, I promise” but Boulder didn’t seemed so, maybe physically was better, nonetheless, their optics were fixated in the nothingness with an upside-down grin

“Okay…”

“Can I try?” Pred said, but now with Heatwave’s sugared tone, just as normal as usual, pointing the crosier, which Boulder gave him with no protest (which was even weirder) “you know? I always wanted to get one of these-” Pred couldn’t end his phrase when a ray of thunder escaped the crosier, which made Predaking fall on his back. Boulder took the crosier again quick and steady and throw it away

“Are you crazy?!” Boulder yelled at Predaking, despite their optics were full of worry “why did you do that?!”

“I didn’t knew it would do that” Pred said, still kind of shocked but he seemed alright

“Good thing you didn’t thought of fire” Heatwave, even feeling both shocked and amazed by how near that ray felt, joked “at least nothing is burning”

“I promise I’ll never share my crosier with none of you” Boulder got up from the grass and helped Pred to sit properly, even when his claws still were energized, then, they went to reach the crosier, but at the touch, the same sensation of thunder filled Boulder’s joints, at first it would be normal after such a weird spell, but a sensation of burning caught Boulder out of guard, they yelled silently at the feeling of the burning mark

“Wow- are you okay?” Heatwave got up too to get closer, worried

“Yeah- just- crosiers can overcharge too” Boulder replied quickly, grabbing the crosier again

“Are you sure? You know you can count on us”

“Us?” Boulder looked behind, changing their gaze from Heatwave to Predaking and from Predaking to Heatwave “what are you two doing?”

“Ah- what does that mean?”

“You never are too quiet when you’re with each other” Boulder handled the crosier on defensive position by pure instinct, position that is actually harmless and Heatwave knows that

But instead of what thought, Heatwave pushes gently the crosier lower “well, right now you’re the important, so-”

“That’s your only excuse?” Boulder pulled the crosier back to themself “I’m important?”

Predaking also got up from the grass “Boulder? Are you okay?”

“Can you stop asking that?!” Boulder stepped behind with doubts, lots of them

“Well- we can but we just want to know what’s up with you”

Their voices seemed normal, and okay, but they didn’t felt okay, this didn’t felt normal, for some reason, something felt off

And Boulder had an idea, a really bad one, but it could work if they were right

Boulder also thought of thunder

And indeed, lightning and noise got together for a few seconds as they closed their optics

It wasn’t actually something off, just a weird feeling, but they were too dizzy to actually think of it twice, and when that happened, the best try was to trust their intuition

A burning feeling made their optics open again, making them twist on themself, on their burning wrist, which hurt only at the mere presence of magic, they couldn’t even cast a tiny light without feeling their wrist was about to incinerate itself, a side effect Blades didn’t even knew when making the rune. Now they was lying on the grass alone, and the sky went all grey unlike before, maybe that was the reason it hurts much than expected

“Boulder!” They heard from behind, Boulder raised their helm to notice the voice, Predaking called them from the door “come inside, please!” Predaking know felt okay, less neutral than before, he sounded worried “I think the rain includes thunder”

Thunder… right!

“I don’t think so” Heatwave pushed him aside, more soft than usual but still revealing how much he cares for him (which is almost none) “were you trying to have fun without me pumpkin?” Heatwave joked, this time with his typical grave voice and as loud as normal, Boulder really liked this version more “wait- what’s that?” Heatwave noticed Boulder was holding way too much their wrist, at which Heatwave asked to see, when Predaking noticed the movement, he also got closer, but he moved weird “why did this happened?”

“Bad dream, I… made magic by accident” Boulder replied, hoping this wouldn’t made both bots more worried than they already are, not anymore for them “is one of the side effects of the rune, it also affects my own spells”

“Damn” Heatwave only replied, half shocked, half confused “I didn’t knew that”

“Blades neither”

“You should wash that, maybe it will cool down-” Predaking got distracted with a far thunder, like a kitty jumping out of fear, and accidentally gluing to Heatwave’s arm, looking at the sky as waiting for something

“Ah…pal” Heatwave said to Pred with even more shocked optics, at which Pred released him in a rush, making Boulder laugh

But like, a real laugh, a tiny one, more like a cough or a “pfft” but, one actual, genuine laugh

“Do you still fear storms?” Boulder mocked at the predacon

“What do you mean with ‘still’?”

“Nothing! No! I just” Pred tried to excuse himself “I’m not the type of storms- and we can attract lightning” he tried to run again to the house, but Boulder stopped him, feeling his claws, which weren’t energized as before, but warm and irregular because of constant use, real

Boulder tried to catch his attention, but pair of drops fell on their wrist, making a hsssst sound-like

“No, thank you-”

“Come here, Pred!” Boulder pulled the bot, who didn’t made much tension despite he could get rid of Boulder’s handle easily “can you be brave for me?”

Predaking was about to say no, but Boulder’s optics… they were bright, for the first time in a while, he couldn’t just say no now, Boulder wanted to share something and was genuinely happy…

“Come on, big guy! A being that big can’t be such a scaredy cat!” Heatwave teased the bot

And fuck it worked “oh really?” Pred replied, but another thunder and more fat water drops made him jump again and glue to Boulder’s shoulder, at which Boulder replied him with a tiny laugh

“Is just rain, I promise is not that bad as on Numine” Boulder tried to make the bot relax, caressing his arms even

“Aww, such a scaredy cat” Heatwave again called Predaking, making him growl

“You really don’t want to get with me, you- mockingbird” Pred threatened Heatwave

“Come on! Get me!” What Heatwave didn’t expected was that Boulder got off Pred’s arms to launch themself into Heatwave, threatening him and making him pay with a funny and wicked smile “Ow- Boulder- get off!”

“No! I like playing with you!”

As the rain became harder and the drops fell on the three of them, their laughs became louder, Boulder was right, none the rain or the thunder was as bad as back on the old days, and for the first time, Pred could throw mud at Heatwave and not receive a scold, same with Heatwave who could actually throw himself to him to spar a little (failing miserably and only receiving Boulder’s laughs)

But laughs were heard, actual happiness, actual relaxation, things weren’t done but it felt right

And even a hint of peace finally struck Boulder, with the feeling anything could happen tomorrow, it didn’t matters, to think of today was way funnier and better…

Boulder had made a lot of things right with Bulkhead

Boulder helped Bulkhead to easy his anxiety and calm his anger

They helped their twin to start naming and talking about his emotions

Also helped him truly understand his pain, both physical and mentally

And also helped him to say sorry properly when he does something wrong

But the only thing that would keep things right

The ONLY thing that Boulder truly wants from Bulkhead MORE than everything is that Bulkhead says sorry to Breakdown and Shockwave because he doesn't want his twin to be angry at his old adoptive brother and the older brother of their future conjux

Why? Because Boulder wants peace and calm on their home and can't stand the idea of marry someone which family hurt Boulder's family, even if Heatwave didn't do anything wrong

And Bulkhead's reply after everything?

He SHOUTS AT THEM, CURSES THEM AND REFUSES WITH ALL HIS EFFORTS TO EVEN LOOK THEM AT THE FACEPLATE

And constantly Boulder is trying to understand what happens with him and yet BULKHEAD DOESN'T TELL HIM WHY!!

IS IT A PROBLEM TO ACTUALLY BE ANGRY FOR A MOMENT?!

"...it is not but, you seem more than just angry" Heatwave replied with much calm than his partner, who walked from a place to another, not stopping even for accident

"OF COURSE I'M MORE THAN ANGRY! DESPITE ALL MY EFFORTS, HE DOESN'T TELL ME ANYTHING!"

"Have you asked him why he doesn't want to tell you?"

"OF COURSE I DID BUT HE JUST SAYS IT'S PERSONAL!"

"Ok... don't you want to sit-?"

"NO!"

Boulder kept walking, smoke coming out of them by how hard their engines worked, Heatwave looked at his side, finding something that would help

"He, look what I found" he said, a toy with the form of a bacon from Minecraft, it was a stupid gift Bulkhead brought Boulder some time ago

But in reply, Boulder took the toy and brought it to their dentae, pulling and biting it fiercely, to later throw it to the floor to crush it with their pedes

Heatwave was actually wondering if it would help on another way but this helps too

"Are you better?"

"Oh Primus" Boulder yelled, looking at the ruined toy

"What?"

"What did I do?! It was a gift! And a really cool one! What will Bulkhead say?"

"Do you mind it just because it was a gift?"

"It is not my favorite but it was a gift, he brought it with love..."

But Boulder's expression wasn't of pain because of the toy

"You know? Maybe you would think it's stupid to say this" Heatwave stepped in front of Boulder, getting the toy from the floor "but once Sissi showed me this comic about two guys who loved a lot each other, but one of them wasn't okay, and despite how much they loved each other, he didn't felt okay, and that hurt his partner"

"That's just the context, the panel was about the mother of one of the guys telling him that love is important, but at the end of the day, it can't cure a mental illness"

Boulder knew that most of Heatwave's tales had a meaning, but this time couldn't find it

"What I mean is that, maybe you can't do much alone, you will always be for him and that's great, but Bulkhead had passed through a lot of things, and even if I don't want to admit it, Breakdown and Shockwave had made a lot of harm when we went on stasis"

"But he can't be mad with them forever!"

"Boulder, he can, and is in his right" Heatwave took Boulder's cheekplate "and despite all your love, it is not enough" Boulder felt like if a weighted blanket hugged their spark

In part, Boulder wanted to refute Heatwave, to go and demonstrate he wasn´t right, that Boulder could do more

But on the other hand, Heatwave was right, and Boulder was getting tired of convince Bulkhead, Boulder looked at toy, relaxing the helm on Heatwave´s servo with blurry optics, Heatwave understood the feeling and took Boulder closer to hug them

Today was definitely not a good day...

*sigh* what a good day to think of Wildbreak, Hotshot and Wedge being used to be kill-machines at a young age because they were stolen when they were eggs by Silas, and also Hotshot and Wildbreak having to live with the fact their siblings never hatched because of negligence and never meeting their true parents

Meanwhile, the other five are living at their best in a farm, raised by humans, and who doesn't know even the BASICS for predacon culture, being told to quit some traits

All while their parents constantly suffer, not knowing if the eggs are okay or if they even hatched in time...

Yes, this is a reference to the Hunters of the Cosmos Au, and fuck, this is pure high angst, I'm in love

Just to be clear, because I feel I never actually said it

Nightshade, Jawbraker, Hotshot and one of the two eggs who never hatched was Boulder and Heatwave's eggs

Wildbreaker and the other egg that died was from Knock Out and Breakdown's, who would also be raised by Chase

Twitch and Trash were Wheeljack and Magnus's

Hashtag was Starscream and Skyfire's

And Wedge was an orphan egg that OP and Meg found before leaving the planet

And in the terran's case, those are not their names, and yes, good moment to put:

Wheeljack: Twitch and Trash? No, their names were supposed to be Quicksilver and Turbo!

Trash: I could have been turbo?

Wheeljack: Yes! I even marked it on the eggs in case no one could understand-

Nightshade and Jawbreaker were supposed to be Violet (Boulder's choice) and Sunwave (Heatwave's choice), Hotshot is still Hotshot but Silas call him "Lizard" (because he looks like one), some members of Mech call him Axolotl

Wildbreaker is called "Dog" or "Wolf" but some say he looks like a deer mixed with dog, so, some call him Dragon

And Wedge looks and acts like a rock, so, at first it was Rocky, and later it was Rocky Balboa, and later they started calling him Silvester, because he prefers nature and fights enemies, also, due to so much time on stasis, he developed a paralisis on half of his face (like Silvester Stalone) and both his monster and bot mode)

Oh, and ps: the eggs that never hatchet, Boulder and Heatwave's was supposed to be named Cyber Rose and looked more like a moth than the others (like Boulder); Knock Out and Breakdown let Chase decide the name of the second egg and was supposed to be called Mural, like Chase's asderoux (in human terms, his biological mom, to consult for Cybertronian terms click here) and also looked more like KO than Wildbreak[I don't read the fic because I don't want to cry these days but I completely agree with these terms and some other things, gave it a look, is really good and cool])

SW: Sweet Tooth, a crossover where the rescue team are Hybrid Kids, including some Transformers, in this case, Fang is a red panda, Buttercup is a raccon who can't talk because his vocal chords are not made for that, and Kim is a swan, but his feather are still grey and brown (and yes, because of this, he always was told he is supposed to be pretty for been a swan, something that will haunt him forever)
