TELEPHONE MURDER
Lyrics: Imai Hisashi | Music: Imai Hisashi
Because even if it’s a lie, let me hear it— That was the first time I said those words Cheating Escaping Betraying Shot in my heart` Bewildered fingertips shaking And violent heartbeat Uncontrollable Whispering Murmuring Betraying Shot in my heart
※TELEPHONE MURDER ABSOLUTELY END OF THE LINE Nothing else, this is it If I spin the dial^
Just as much euphoria As telling lies Having premonitions That’s the kinda night it is Cheating Escaping Betraying Shot in my heart
※Repeat
TELEPHONE MURDER ABSOLUTELY END OF THE LINE Tangled in the radio waves Dream is over
*Woo No more tear drop Woo Once more fantasy Woo No more tear drop Woo Once more fantasy
*Repeat x2
——————————————————
Uso demo ii kara kikasete Hajimete itta kotoba datta Gomakasu Nogareru Uragiru Shut in my heart` Tomadou yubisaki furuete Hageshii kodou Osaekirezu Sasayaku Tsubuyaku Uragiru Shut in my heart
※TELEPHONE MURDER Zettai-zetsumai Mohaya Kore made sa DAIYARU mawaseba^ Ukareta bundake Uso tsuku Yokan ga hashiru Sonna yoru de Gomakasu Nogareru Uragiru Shut in my heart
※Repeat
TELEPHONE MURDER Zettai-zetsumai Karamaru denpa de Dream is over
*Woo No more tear drop Woo Once more fantasy Woo No more tear drop Woo Once more fantasy
*Repeat x2

^For those perhaps too young to understand the line, phones used to have round dials on them that you would stick your finger into and manually spin to “dial” a number. This is what this line is talking about. At the time of this song the phone would have been old fashioned but not unheard of. You could still run into them in the wild even until the mid 1990s. And now I feel old for having to make this note.
`I watched the 1990 live performance of this song several times and I’m rather strongly convinced that Imai has misspelled “shot” for this line. The katakana eigo pronunciation of shut and shot is identical and he simply got the vowel wrong. I’d give him a C-. With that said, I’ve taken the extremely bold liberty of correcting this in my translation but retaining it in the romaji as the pronunciation is, again, identical either way in katakana eigo, but please do take note. I really do just think he spelled it wrong lol.
T/N: Another punchy number from Imai going back to at least 1986. What makes this song special is the Merseybeat drums that Toll ingeniously brought to this song. The drum line really is the star of this song. I don't think they ever pulled out Mersey-style drumming again after this- it was a one and done. But it gives it a very, very nice, punchy retro feel, especially coupled with the imagery of the rotary phone throughout the song. Seems our boy is going through a break-up via a phone call instead of in person- ouch. Telephone Murder indeed lol.

HAHA, I TOLD YOU I WOULD POST HERE! This took way longer than it should've but it's okay because Im proud of it. These are some of my Lemon Demon ocs (all based on Spirit Phone)
Characters: Top Left: Joey Poindexter (Touch Tone Telephone), Top Right: Echo Darlington (Lifetime Achievement Award), Bottom Left: Pip/Percy Finnigan (Cabinet Man), Bottom Right: Spencer Helen (Soft Fuzzy Man)
I've been thinking about posting more on here, especially about all my Lemon Demon OCs, and the story I'm writing about them.
Also for legal reasons, murder is not okay; this drawing is a joke.

Sins of the Father sounds amazing!!
I really like the themes in that one. It's all about Phryne being allowed into the boys club of intelligence officially. She's not in any way happy because Hugh is in danger but she's very glad that she doesn't have to fight the men on her side as well as the kidnappers. But it comes at this horrible and non-negotiable cost of having to become the gatekeeper with respect to Dot, when she known full well that if she was in Dot's place she'd be tearing the walls down.
And Jack is playing a delicate game convincing his contacts that Phryne should be on the inside whilst knowing that she's not exactly the best at obeying orders.
So there's this very legitimate balance of Phryne - who has earned her place there in every way - feeling resentful at the limitations of the power she's given and Jack feeling frustrated that she's not more appreciative of the lengths he's gone to to bring her in. Even whilst they are both fundamentally on the same side. And in the best traditions of a phrack disagreement they are both right.
Here's a bit I really like:
Jack picked the telegraph slip up from the stack of thicker envelopes on the table and Phryne was shocked to see his face blanch as he read it. Before she could ask what the matter was, he strode over to the telephone, dialled the operator and requested to be put through to a pub in Fitzroy without a word to her.
She had no objection of course; in fact, she often scolded him for not treating her home as his own. Still, the uncustomary discourtesy struck an ominous note, and she listened intently hoping to glean something from his conversation.
“Is Mr Whistler at the bar?” “…” “Thankyou.”
There was a short pause, punctuated by the nervous tap of Jack's fingers against the hall table.
“It's Shiner. Has it started?” “…” “I’ll be there in fifteen minutes.”
He put the phone down and turned to Phryne his face more scared than she had ever seen it.
"Phryne, do you trust me?” “Of course, Jack. What’s the matter.” “I can’t tell you, not yet, but I do need your help.”
She was tempted to respond with something flirtatious or flippant but the cold fear in his expression stopped her and she simply nodded, ready for anything.
“I need everyone in this house armed and all the doors and windows locked. Where’s Jane?”
The question was enough to scare Phryne in turn, although she did not understand what it meant.
“Staying with friends, is she in danger?” “I can’t be certain but it’s possible. I need you to drive me to The Spotted Dog in Fitzroy as fast as you can without getting arrested, then make sure Jane somewhere safe. Don’t tell me where, and it might be safest if you don’t know either. After that come back here, make sure you have bullets in your gun and don’t let anyone in. Will you do that for me?”
‘Will’ not ‘can’ it was an important distinction. He wasn’t asking her if she was capable, because he know she was. He wasn’t asking her to protect herself and let him run into danger because he knew she wouldn't. He was asking her to help him protect the family they had built together, and he had thought of Jane even before she had known her daughter was in danger.
There was no way she could refuse.
“Did you say fifteen minutes, Inspector? I’ll have you there in ten.”

A Christmas Eve Miracle
12/24/2023I can’t recall if I have blogged this story before or not. But, being that it’s Christmas Eve, I thought it would be worth writing up and publishing here today.
A Christmas Eve Miracle happened Christmas Eve 2015, eight years ago.
Since my first years of criminal law practice up until about 2019, I would act now and them as pro term judge in traffic court, meaning, I would fill in for the actual judge.
Christmas Eve 2015, I did this out in traffic court on Floyd Ave in Modesto, California.
The afternoon session ended at about 2:30pm . At the stop light at Oakdale Road and Floyd, I looked out about 2 miles to the north west to see intense black low clouds. They seemed to be in the area where two significant events in my life had taken place.
I was in a grocery story there when the Loma Prieta earth quake hit at 5:04pm. October 17, 1989. The store floor began to have a rolling motion and things fell from the shelves. I thought the roof was going to give.  And in 2013 a man was killed in front of some apartments behind the store. I would be appointed to represent Lisandro Mendosa, one of 5 codefendants charged with a gang related murder of the man. A 6 month jury trial resulted in a hung jury and a New York Times article about the trial, “”How do you define a gang member?   New York Times Sunday Magazine 5/27/2015. The trial was long and emotionally violent.
I continued my drive down Floyd Ave toward home. I decided to stop at the Star Bucks for a hot chocolate at Coffee road and Floyd. It sits across Coffee Road and a parking lot from the store I was in during the 89 quake. Just beyond and behind the store is where the man was killed resulting in the Mendoza trial.
Before entering Starbucks, I stood about 40 feet from Coffee Road and leaned my head back. Fine mist was falling now . I closed my eyes, felt the mist on my face and sent a healing prayer out across the store and the seen of the killing beyond it.
Just then, unbeknownst to me,  about a mile west on Coffee road, a  storm related microburst caused a tree to to fall into telephone wires causing 50 foot tall telephone poles to one by one collapse into Coffee Road headed in my direction.
I finished my prayer, unaware of the collapsing poles, and walked 17 seconds to the Star Bucks. Inside , the power was out and there was a general sense of panic . The staff locked the door and wouldn’t let us out. Starbucks had no windows facing Floyd or Coffee Road, so we couldn’t see that the pole 40 feet from where I said the prayer had collapsed into the street as well the one just beyond  that I had just driven by.
Despite the fact it was Christmas Eve afternoon, and that Coffee Road is a busy four lane road, no one was hurt or killed inn the mile long collapse of polls and live wires into the road.
We had been told during the Mendosa jury trial that the trial had been cursed by people in Vera Cruz, Mexico. The man who was killed was hispanic. Not sure who placed the curse or why.
I drove to the jail after leaving Starbucks to meet with Mr. Mendosa who was incarcerated there.
I told him about the telephone pole incident and asked him if he thought it was as a result of the curse. He said he didn’t thinks so. He said he thought it was a sign he would get a break in the case. He did. In 2016, he received a 16 year sentence instead of life in prison via a negotiated plea. Recently, due to a change in sentencing laws, he was re sentenced and released!

how are you liking p4 so far? thoughts? 🎤🎤
It's been hard to go from the UI/combat of persona 5 to this game, but I persevere....
I've seen people call this the "happy" persona game, but it has a kind of grungy and uncomfortable atmosphere to it that I find interesting? The harsh color visuals of the TV world are really cool - I looooooove that opening area with the outlined bodies on the ground. I'll hold off on actual opinions about characters until I see more of them, but so far, I really like Yosuke and how they handled his shadow + his whole deal with Saki (whom I am sad is dead... I liked what little we got of her)... he feels shockingly nuanced for being the "dumb best friend" character, which I really like??? Chie's got a lot of fun energy to her, and I like what I've seen of Yukiko so far. Dojima will suffer my hand for how he neglects Nanako idgaf if he's a single dad on the police force go hire a babysitter
I'm still pretty early in the game (Yukiko's Castle Dungeon), so the only thing I really can say I dislike (aside from obvious downgraded UI) is the cutscenes? The 2D animated ones were one of my least favorite part of P5, and I am not excited to see they still look really bad here... I wish there were nice 3D ones instead.......

hi! 3 // 4 // 5 and 27. these sound so interesting
thank youuu for sending!!
3) what genre would your OC do badly in but would be hilarious or interesting to watch?
the absolute first thing that came to my mind is kiku and naomi in some post apocalyptic setting. spoiled rich kids wouldn't last 3 seconds on their own in the wilderness. trying desperately to cling to some sense of decorum while the world is actively falling apart. i can imagine them spooning canned food into their mouths with so much misery. it's definitely a character building and humbling journey for them.
kaname in a regency era romance setting is always funny. like she'd really rather die than have to do any of that. nana would be her best friend who wants nothing more than to get a match, but she's also sickly and kaname is very protective of her. she thinks nana’s too good for some measly man. also a musical ..... she'd question why everyone is singing and be forced to sing herself and that's so funny to imagine.
kou and noriko i can imagine doing very badly in a horror setting. they're both quite practical people so in this setting where nothing makes sense they just wouldn't know how to deal with what's going on. kou is blind so noriko basically uses him as a ouija board/spirit box hgkshfhd 'can you sense any negative energy??? is something out to kill us???' at first she's like haha this is dumb!!! this is stupid, none of this is real. but the hours go by and they start to get more and more paranoid when they can't explain anything that's happening. kou can't see things disappearing in the corner of his eye so all the visual element of the horror is lost on him. meanwhile every little sound is amplified so it's hell. the slow creak of the door. footsteps when there shouldn't be. something rustling in the cupboard. noriko tries to get him to communicate with the spirits and kou loves getting her all worked up by exaggerating it and putting in voices even though he's equally terrified out of his mind. they are notttt making it out alive.
4) what media does your character enjoy?
this is a fun question! i've been writing about this lately. kou has pretentious taste, he loves watching drama movies from the 50s, characterized by their slow, lush, quiet atmosphere. it's also a treat for him to hear and really take in the differences in the audio between the old generation of movies and the new ones, everything from the style of speaking to the sound design. and it's easy to follow along with what's happening, it's all very real and grounded. he likes the movies of yasujiro ozu and his contemporaries, and in the modern age, kore-eda. he likes watching dramas that touch on the human condition.
noriko has a fondness for the trashy western rom coms of the early 2000s. she grew up watching a lot of foreign media and there's just something so charming about these movies she can't get enough of. she loves putting them on for kou as a form of psychological torture.
kiku and naomi grew up watching whatever drama was coming on the tv after dinner. they didn't really get to explore the world of television in their childhood outside of what their parents made them watch, which was safe, sterile, unassuming. so i like to think they both have a fascination for the darker anime series that characterized the late 80s and the 90s—akira, ghost in the shell, perfect blue, angel’s egg.
5) what songs do you associate with your ocs?
i'll give one random song for each!
kiku: shame—mitski
kou: telephone number—junko ohashi
naomi: surface pressure—jessica darrow
kaname: barbarism begins at home—the smiths
27) in a murder mystery, what role would your oc play?
kiku and naomi: the two rich travelers on the train who are absolutely flabbergasted and terrified by the events that have just transpired. everyone holds them in contempt.
noriko: detective!! she's way too excited about it
kaname: red herring (the one brash foul mouthed passenger on the train who almost surely evaded paying the fare....of course she's the suspect)
kou: government assigned sidekick + true culprit :D very much 'oh dear i put oleander in the tea' kusuriuri style. no one suspects him since he's blind so of course he couldn't be capable of murder....

So I attended a murder mystery dinner party where we all went as different musicians. The best bit of the night was when the “private investigator” said she would be answering individual questions.
I (dressed as Sinead O’Connor) just had Cindi Lauper whisper to me the phrase, “Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is asking her what Scissoring is”
