~What i couldve been~
I was just gonna do the adult timeline zelda but im so enchanted by the idea of these two versions of the same character. People always talk about how link would be changed but never zelda.

Obviously next week could prove this all dead-wrong, but I don’t think the trial’s quite over. I don’t believe the end of that episode actually took place, because I’m pretty sure we’re still firmly in the “punish Agatha” phase. Rio’s suddenly gone. Alice seems to be dead by Agatha’s hand, and no one—including Teen, who has always been on her side—seems primed to believe she was out of control. The others have been sucked beneath the power of the surrogate son who not only just told Agatha to fuck off, but went full-Wanda to do it. It just all seems too tailored to cut up any of the character progress Agatha’s made on the Road thus far. Getting harassed by her ghost mother and hearing her son’s voice don’t feel like a complete tear-down. This does. It feels like more trial.

💙 The Shade of Old Trees by Kryal

💙 The Shade of Old Trees
by Kryal
T, 363k, Wangxian
Summary: “We rest in the shade of trees our ancestors planted.” They called the man in the ice Yiling Laozu, after a folk hero associated with the town in the foothills of the mountains where he was found. No one expected him to be alive! Kay's comments: I have never been less surprised to see that a story was written by a PhD student. The end notes at the end of each chapter are very extensive and just amazing. So much information, so much research, 363k of an incredible story that had me completely hooked. I read it in a week and could hardly focus on anything else, because that story was just so present in the back of my mind and I wanted to know what would happen next. Got introduced to the story by the stunning art by @toffee-arts. I loved the entire plotline of Wei Wuxian having to first learn modern Chinese in order to speak to the scientists (and mostly Lan Zhan) who decided to thaw his supossed corpse. I love how it all came together, how it all wrapped up neatly and the slow burn! The slow burn almost killed me! And how cultivation just awed everyone in modern day!! I just know this story is going to be a favourite I will re-read again and again and there are certainly a lot of details I must have missed during my obsessed binge. Excerpt: Everyone in the observation room tensed. This was, after all, the most delicate point. If it wasn’t going to be possible to remove the ice without beginning to thaw Yiling Laozu, they would have to move very quickly to preserve some of the data they wanted. The cellular damage caused by the freezing process meant that once the ice thawed, the damage would spread rapidly. Lan Wangji glanced at Wen Yuan. “Leave if you need to,” he told the boy quietly. Wen Yuan shook his head. “No, I want to stay…” Lan Wangji wasn’t certain what caught his attention – a flicker of movement from the corner of his eye, a hint of sound, a flash of intuition. He looked up to see Lan Xichen slam into the window. Drop out of sight, stunned by the impact. Beyond, shards of shattered ice fell from black robes scattered across the floor as Yiling Laozu’s body tumbled off the lab table— Twisted. Landed on his feet. Stood. Piercing silvery-grey eyes flickered across the room, wary and confused. Lan Wangji froze. Yiling Laozu was awake. …Yiling Laozu was alive.
pov alternating, modern setting, modern with magic, different first meeting, time travel, time travelling wei wuxian, time travel of sorts, canon divergence, slow burn, worldbuilding, getting together, developing relationship, academia, research, science, bamf wei wuxian, yiling laozu wei wuxian, grief/mourning

Can we talk about Mickeys absolute heartbreak in this scene?
Tumblr media
His dad died. Was murdered. His dad was murdered by the person he hired to take care of him.
Mickey tried his best to take care of his dad up until the last moment. Despite everything Terry did to him, to mandy, to his siblings and their childhoods, he still cared about him in that unfathomable way only a child of abuse can.
Mickey is good, he is kind and he is full of love. He cares about family and he is deeply loyal.
He spoon-fed his father and changed his catheter bag. He tidied up the living room and carried his father into the house when his good for nothing cousins left him outside alone to rot.
Mickey knew who his father was, knew what he was, and still felt the need to placate and take care of him (“you could a’ been a half decent dad…”) There is also a conversation to be had about Mickey feeling like he wanted/needed to forgive Terry in order to heal himself but I’m not the right person for that.
Mickey never had a proper opportunity to grieve his childhood and the abuse his father put him through. Ian scoffed at him when he cried over his dead father (this is not canon to me and i refuse to belive that actually happened.)
None of his family cared that Terry was gone.
Mickey alone had to plan Terry’s funeral after his wishes because he knew what his dad wanted. Mickey and Ian were the only one at his “funeral”. Ian held him as he cried, stayed with him by his side as they searched for Terrys casket.
This is Mickey realising he tried to take care of his father for nothing. He ended up murdered just like he always knew he would. Terrys hatred and evils killed him- just like Mickey always hoped would happen.
Mickey is not just grieving the death of his father, but he’s also grappling with the consequences of him hiring the nurse.
Mickey tells us it’s unfair that the nun killed him, because he had the opportunity to do it himself a thousand times “and this bitch just swoops in?!”. I think he feels guilty because it was them who hired the nurse who killed him.
Of course it’s Terrys own fault, he brought this onto himself, but Mickey probably feels guilty even so. And we’ve seen Mickey have almost banter-like moments with his dad, and so i’m sure he’s feelings on his death is very complicated. I know what it’s like to have fond memories of a person who hurt you, and it can really mess you up.
Watching the show it feels as if Terry is this unstoppable force, a tornado just waiting to hit the house and tear it apart. Like Frank, he feels immortal and it’s almost surreal when he’s dead. Almost like a let down- we expected these men to die a bigger death. But in the end they died alone and scared.
I’m sure Mickey also felt that way, that his dad was unkillable and he was just gonna live the rest of his life afraid of him. And now suddenly he’s no longer there but Mickey is once again left to pick up the mess his father left behind.
I don’t know, I’m sure there is so much more to unpack here and I wish the show handled it a little better (at least with Ian’s reaction)
I think it’s good they had a conversation about Franks abuse vs Terrys abuse, but once again it wasn’t handled correctly from Ian’s side (and once again I blame the writers and not Ian)

Reconstruction
Reconstruction by IncandescentUmbrage || @okayfinehereiam Rating: Teen and Up Word count: 19k
Though both are single dads, the ways by which Castiel Novak and Dean Winchester ended up there couldn't be more different: Castiel came to Sioux Falls for a fresh start when his best friend died and his godson, Jack, became his adoptive son. Dean moved to be closer to family when a one night stand turned into a surprise toddler on his doorstep. When a certain strawberry blonde spitfire stands up for Jack against the school bully, they quickly become friends. Castiel and Dean are soon in each other's orbits, only drawing closer when Dean begins doing some renovation of Castiel's home. Meanwhile, the mother of the young bully, Naomi Adler, having failed to weasel her son out of his due consequences, wages a 'holy quest' against Castiel. One she doesn't bother keeping secret. As they spend more and more time around one another, neither man can deny their attraction, but Castiel especially must decide if there is enough room in his life and heart for grief, for love of a child, and for a love of an altogether different kind.
I truly think that as a fandom, we’ve underutilized Emma as Dean’s daughter in fic. Because of that, anytime I see a story that serves that up, I have to click. In this fic, Emma is truly as described, a little spitfire, a true Winchester not only in attitude, but in heart and character. The story starts with Dean needing to bail her out of the principals office, if that’s any indication. She’s there because she stood up for Jack, so Dean can’t be all that mad given the circumstance.
So of course, he takes her for ice cream.
Which is the first place Jack’s new devastatingly handsome guardian lays eyes on him.
This fic has a split POV, so we get to see their first impressions of each other, along with a great look at the way they both see each other for the first time for real, when they plan a playdate for their kids.
Everyone in this fic is really well written, even a softer version of Dean, who is sweet and charming and a great friend and support to Cas as he begins to incorporate into their town. This story is cute, with a nice good vs evil plotline that has you cheering for Cas as he takes on the wicked Adler family. The payoff is sweet and I think this is one fic that you shouldn’t skip if you’re a fan of dadstiel.

i’m rereading ootp (to my own horror) and like. knowing what happens in that one and the next two books makes that intense, bubbling frustration of being a teenager whose worries are disregarded so much worse.
like, surprise?? the kid whose childhood you’re trying to preserve lost that innate innocence years ago. you want him to be a normal 15 yr old boy but if you keep quiet about the dangers he might not live to see his 16th birthday. and congrats on keeping him safe, i guess—you’ve accidentally ruined the last piece able to tether him to his childhood, but i’m sure those months of torture were worth the farce of normality you craved for him. i don’t think you know that your apologies are like sticking band aids on a fracture. i don’t think you’re aware of how you’re ignoring the breaks, but i’m certain you’re expecting them to heal on their own.
oh, they didn’t? and now you’re treating him like he’s a bubble made of glass, waiting to shatter? but you’re the one to have turned him into that bubble, aren’t you? you’re the one who’s holding him, and it’s not his time yet. not for another two years. and shards of glass dulled with time cannot fell a monster, can they? so please be careful. you still need him. he never asked to be a martyr but he’ll do it because you expect him to; you just need to watch your step because your hands are slicked with guilt, and he’s heavy. he’s struggling. he’ll fall as well, if you let him go now.
