To Techno and Philza in the egg!Dream AU: I fear that the vines that crawl all over him are really truly in a body horror kind of way taking control of him, we all know that the torture and hunger from Pandora’s would have left him weak and frail, he is neither of them and I’m afraid that getting the vines off will kill him
“You are probably right. His strikes feel stronger, but the Dream I know would have never struck like that. I am afraid this is something that requires more planning to be rid of. After all, red clashes horribly with green.”

oh man, i'm such a huge horror movie fan that for this au i've pulled from a lot of tropes across a lot of different movies.
but i think the main ones are movies like 'halloween' where the killer is, ostensibly, just a human guy who is also completely unstoppable. he gets shot, stabbed, whatever and never actually dies. he just keeps coming. that's c!techno in this au.
i also pulled from movies like 'i spit on your grave' and 'the last house on the left' for both the revenge aspect and c!dream's story/ability and in the former's case, the idea for c!sam being a cop who is involved with the torture. also a little bit from the new classic final girl type movies like 'you're next' and 'ready or not'.
in general, though, the world is very much a mix of things like the scream franchise and the fear street movies where horror and these sorts of masked killers are kinda.... more common? the world the au is set in is literally that sort of horror movie world. or think 'the cabin in the woods' but without the secret force behind everything.

I am something of a connoisseur of dead fandoms. I don't have the patience for living ones-- my interest tends to fizzle out when it's fed a normal release schedule. So instead, I binge completed works, then binge their most popular 100 or so fanworks, think of nothing else for a month while practically vibrating with unspoken opinions, and then move on. I've picked over many a corpse this way, broken into many a dwindling house party to steal the forgotten hors d'oeuvres then bounce before anyone could catch me in a long-entrenched argument that I only half understand. This is my default way of consuming media.
So trust me when I say that picking up dsmp in 2023 is bizarre.
This is less like wandering through a failed shopping mall, and more like playing Eldritch Horror. There are so many signs of past conflict; so many scattered bits of discourse that I'm trying not to look too closely at for fear of releasing something I cannot comprehend. Everyone uses a special nomenclature to differentiate the characters from their players, and they stick to it like a goddamn lifeline. Any tumblr mentioning the fandom in their bio also immediately follows that with a declaration as either an anti or an apologist for the guy who runs the server. A given creator could be voiceless, faceless, in Antarctica, or on tumblr standing behind you right now. Every bit of lighthearted fanart is paired with an oblique spoiler hinting that every single character and the land they walk on is doomed.
And then there is the very literal reverence for the dead. It's clear that for so many who followed the server in real time, Techno's death is a heavy weight to bear. At least for this latecomer, the legend of Technoblade can't be overstated. Knowing from the start that he wouldn't be there to see the end of this story has not lessened his impact within it. On the one hand, it's not terribly different from experiencing most of the classics-- I don't mourn for Jonathan Swift when I read A Modest Proposal. But on the other hand I know that I'm walking on an open wound. Perhaps it's best that I leave the topic at that.
Who's to say if this fandom will launch back into full force when the second season kicks off. I should probably be sure I'm outside the blast radius before that happens. But for now I'm grabbing all the potatoes I can carry and eyeing the plate of muffins cause man, there's a lotta delicious shit here.

i’m always saying this but voyager is at its best when it’s leaning into the inherent horror of its premise and i think if they’d done away with the borg queen and let the borg be the faceless mass of techno-body horror they were when they were introduced they would’ve worked so much better. the borg queen lends a familiarity to the borg that undermines a lot of their fear factor. you can’t negotiate with the borg but you can negotiate with the borg queen

// unintentional medical neglect, fevers
Hybrid/Foster AU where it’s instinctual for avians to avoid sick children that aren’t their own.
It’s a protective habit, mostly, to keep their own family safe.
Except Tommy — feverish, newly fostered, and entirely unaware of that instinct — isn’t quite family yet.
It’s subconscious at first, how Phil starts to ignore him.
After all, Tommy’s been sick from the beginning. Wings unkempt, limbs skinny, skin pale. Phil had always been courteous, though, feeding Tommy & giving him time to take care of himself.
But then it gets worse.
It’s just a fever at first — something Tommy’s fully prepared to handle on his own.
And that’s good. Because the Watsons get… withdrawn. Tommy still gets to stay with them, but it’s like they’re drifting away — no longer offering affection.
Until the fever gets worse, that is.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
It’s Phil that finds Tommy, shivering with the thermometer in hand, the number displayed far too high.
*You were avoiding me?* Tommy wants to say. *You clearly didn’t want me around.*
But it’s fine. Because Phil cares for him.
Or rather, tries to.
Tommy can still see perfectly fine.
How Phil’s face pinches as he guides Tommy to bed, how he’s trying to touch Tommy as little as possible. He does help, and Tommy’s overwhelmingly grateful for it, but… it’s not that much.
And maybe that’s why the fever keeps getting worse.
Phil visits less.
And once, through the door & the feverish haze in his ears, Tommy hears him say, “Techno, Wil? Don’t go in here.”
It doesn’t matter that Tommy’s ready to beg as his body’s wracked with pain. His calls are rarely answered.
And then they’re not answered at all.
“Phil?”
Nothing. Maybe the man’s too far away to hear the sickly rasp Tommy manages to choke out.
“Techno? Wil?”
Nothing. Tommy’s gut twists in fear, a cold realization that makes him shiver despite the fever.
He… he needs a hospital.
It’s gotten that bad. It’s hard to breathe, impossible to stand. Not even pills & damp clothes could help break it (even if Phil’d stopped bringing them days ago).
And the only person he can call is his social worker.
It’s agonizing.
The Watsons were *perfect.* Affectionate, patient, treating him like he was part of their family from the very beginning.
But all it took was one fever, and they realized how difficult he was.
So, with shaking hands, he punches in his social worker’s number.
.
.
.
Tommy doesn’t remember his social worker arriving.
Or the ambulance.
He doesn’t remember the weeks at the hospital, either unconcious or stuck in a feverish delirium.
But he’s fully recovered when the Watsons arrive. Because that’s the only time they agree to visit.
“You look better.”
Phil flinches, like he immediately regrets the words. Tommy just nods quietly, keeping his ugly, unkempt wings beneath the blanket.
(He might not understand *why* the Watsons suddenly hated him. But he knows he can’t bear it if they still do.)
“I’m sorry.”
His throat’s still raspy, but he manages to say it.
Phil… winces. Tommy’s heart twists, praying that it’s not out of disgust, that he can at least apologize before Phil’s revolted by him—
And then the man wipes away tears.
“You know it wasn’t you, right?”
Tommy stays silent, shivering beneath the thin blankets.
“Our instincts were— we should’ve paid better attention—”
“Instincts?” Tommy whispers, confusion evident.
But it’s nothing compared to the horror on Phil’s face.
“You didn’t know?”
It takes a while to explain the instinct that’d caused this.
That the Watsons truly didn't know. How their brains, wired to care for each other, blocked out the worst of Tommy’s suffering.
But all Tommy hears is, “You weren’t family. That’s why we didn’t care for you.”
“Well, I’m— I’m better now,” Tommy says weakly, trying to muster a smile. *You can take me home,* he thinks (prays).
And Phil…
Flinches.
“Tommy, we can’t… we can’t take care of you.”
Tommy shivers. “You— you don’t have to. I can take care of myself, I’ll— I’m okay now, I can—”
“Tommy, you almost died,” Phil says, leaning forward like he wants to take Tommy’s hand. But he doesn’t. “Because of us. It’s not your fault, I just…”
“It was for your family.”
Phil goes still, eyes watery.
“You were protecting your sons,” Tommy mumbles, wincing as his wings ache beneath the blanket. “I can’t… I can’t blame you for that.
Phil recoils, shaking his head. His voice is utterly broken.
“Tommy, you’re my son, too.”
Tommy can’t help himself. He scoffs.
“You said that instinct helped you protect your *family.* And you didn’t protect me.”
There. Plain and simple.
And the cherry on top — Tommy rips the blanket off his shoulders, revealing the sick, ugly mess of his wings.
Phil will surely leave. It’s the number one sign of sickness, having feathers twisted and battered like this. He’ll leave, and Tommy’s heart with break for good—
Phil—
Falls at Tommy’s side, crooning deep in concern.
It… doesn’t make sense. Tommy’s mind is a mess, even before Phil gently reaches out and starts brushing Tommy’s feathers into place.
Because he’s still sick. Still ugly. Still a risk to Phil’s sons — but the man’s still caring for him.
Because he must see Tommy as family.
(And Phil’s mind is the same. It was enough to terrify him, seeing Tommy like half-dead, all due to his own negligence.
And that fear was enough for his instincts to recognize Tommy as his own.
Even though his conscious mind had done so from the first time he saw the kid.)
In the end, that’s enough.
The neglect was unintentional, though it’s a fight to convince his social worker so.
But it’s impossible not to see how willing Phil is to care for Tommy now — both instinctually and consciously.
Or to see how desperate Tommy is to go back home.
There’s safeguards in place, of course.
But none of them are ever needed. The Watsons are hyperaware of every sniffle, cough, or bit of feverish fatigue, entirely ready to protect their brother and son.
And emotionally, Tommy heals too. With their constant, true apologies, and their non-stop affection.
It might’ve been a mistake, that first horrible bit of neglect. But their grief over it is enough to reassure him that he wasn’t the cause.
And their love ensures he deserves every bit of their protection.

Fun fact:
The Decepticon Army has a Convention specifically dedicated to stuff Shockwave is not allowed to do.
If you think what he gets away with in the comics is atrocious, I'm pretty sure that reading whatever plans of his that doesn't get past the Decepticon Council must be able to put the fear of God into even Megatron himself. I'm pretty sure I saw Knockout rocking back and forth in a corner once after reading Shockwave's proposed plans for something.
I'd elaborate, but I'm not here to be the new test subject for some sort of airborne techno-organic cancer or something.
intriguing concept. makes me wonder if the council is being proactive in coming up with potential situations shockwave could propose beforehand or reactive to the ones he's already brought forward. either way, those unfortunate sparks have the displeasure of beholding the most heinous and macabre experiments shockwave’s processor could think up, and yet despite the horrors, there truly is logical reasoning behind these proposals. most of them, anyway.

The trooper shook his head harshly, like a wild cat digging her teeth further into her prey. Echo let out a rough yelp as he felt rather than heard the metal of his scomp crunch. His head was swimming with pain and sickness, he felt helpless and pathetic. He knew he was getting weaker, he could feel it with almost every breath. Each time he had had a coughing fit, luckily only twice now, it felt like something was creeping into his head. It made him feel enraged, with the thought that something else was there that shouldn’t be. He was used to invasive code, to the occasional virus that he would pick up when trying to hack into separatist systems, but this felt organic. This wasn’t something messing with his cybernetics, with the pieces of him that didn’t feel like him. This was attacking the few human bits he had left. It was attacking, and it was winning. It made him angry, it made him think things about these sick troopers that he only ever thought about the Techno Union. Shoot them repeatedly, jam your scomp into their throats, stomp on their skulls until it was mush staining the floor. He didn’t want to think that. Sick or not, these were vode. He tried to imagine one of the Batch being applied to these disgusting thoughts, but to his own horror the idea never left. Sometimes he thought it even got louder, more demanding. The trooper pinning him started pulling against his scomp, trying to bite off a chunk of metal. Echo let out another scream as the phantom pains told him he was losing flesh and not replaceable durasteel. He yanked on his scomp, trying to force the trooper back down. Even if he would be pinned, the trooper wouldn’t be able to do anything to hurt him other than claw and grab, unless he let go of Echo’s scomp. Echo brought his hand up to push against the trooper’s face. His wide, bloodshot eyes flashed towards the limb, and he grabbed it before Echo could even reach his face. He dug his fingernails into the skin and made little crescent indents. It wasn’t long before a small trickle of blood leaked down his wrist. He grit his teeth. It was nothing, it wouldn’t last. He didn’t need to worry about himself. He needed to get free, then help Tech. he could see his vod’ika in his peripheral vision, pinned similarly to Echo. he was weakly holding his shaking arms up to keep the trooper’s snapping jaw away from him. Echo looked away as the pressure on his scomp started to lift. His wrist was pulled up as the trooper moved his mouth, open wide to bite, towards his hand. Echo saw his opportunity and took it. Jam your scomp into his throat. The voice screamed. He couldn't help but agree with it, despite himself. He maneuvered his scomp back, then pushed it forward with as much force as his muddled mind could muster. It sank into the trooper’s flesh with a squelch. Blood trickled down his scomp and pooled in the crook of his elbow until it dripped off onto Echo’s chest. The two made eye contact. Both held a sickening fear in their wide eyes. Echo’s lip trembled slightly as he spun his scomp, tearing the trooper’s flesh to shreds. The blood started to splatter violently against Echo’s face. He tore out his scomp through the side, almost completely decapitating the trooper. The trooper lilted to the side as he fell off of Echo.
more of the zombie tbb fic I'm working on! I have a lot written (15k words somehow) and have divided some of it up into different chapters. I want to tease more but I really don't want to spoil a lot of things lol

WrongPlanet.net, the largest autism forum, is in the midst of a hostile takeover
tl;dr: WrongPlanet’s owner got hacked and there are now no mods. Please signal boost this so that autistic people know the site is likely to be unsafe from now on.
I heard that Alex Plank, the absentee admin of WrongPlanet, had returned with a big announcement.
Here it is:
Hey there, fellow Wrong Planeters! I know it's been an eternity since I last graced this forum with my presence. I apologize for my absence, but I come bearing an astonishing tale of woe and wonder. Brace yourselves, for I suffer from the most peculiar affliction known to mankind: "Chronic Update Blockage Disorder (and forgetting to change my password)." Yes, you read that right. For a decade now, I have been plagued by a condition that has kept me from updating Wrong Planet, ensuring that it remains untouched, like a relic preserved for future generations to marvel at. Imagine the monumental impact this has had on the state of the internet. Don't worry; I'll give you a moment to gather your thoughts. Now, you may be wondering how such an unusual ailment came to be. Well, let me enlighten you. It all began when I was innocently tinkering with some HTML code, trying to add a dancing unicorn GIF to my signature. Little did I know that this innocent act of digital mischief would lead to my tragic downfall. In a bizarre twist of fate, my fingers slipped on the keyboard, causing a cataclysmic error in the space-time continuum. A rift opened up, and Wrong Planet was sucked into a parallel dimension—an alternate reality where updating websites is a crime punishable by being forced to listen to dial-up modem noises on repeat for eternity. It's a dimension where webmasters are trapped in a perpetual loop of server errors and broken links. Oh, the horror! Ever since that fateful day, I have been caught in a cosmic limbo, unable to break free from the clutches of my disorder. Every time I attempt to update the site, my hands freeze, my eyes glaze over, and my mind is overrun with visions of cascading style sheets and merciless pop-up ads. It's like a digital possession straight out of a techno-horror movie. But fear not! I refuse to let this affliction define me. In my isolation, I have become a webmaster hermit, a guru of outdated HTML and obsolete plugins. I have attained a level of enlightenment that transcends the mere mortal realm of web development. My website, frozen in time, stands as a testament to my indomitable spirit and steadfast refusal to give in to the relentless march of progress. So, as I sit here in my digital dungeon, surrounded by stacks of floppy disks and a shrine dedicated to the ancient Netscape Navigator, I implore you all to cherish your ability to update your websites. Take a moment to appreciate the mundane task of uploading a new blog post or tweaking your site's layout, for it is a privilege denied to the unfortunate few, like me. In conclusion, I hope my tale of woe has brought a smile to your face, despite the tragic consequences it has had on my own online presence. Remember, life is unpredictable, and so are the pitfalls of the digital world. Cherish your ability to hit that "Publish" button, for you never know when it might be taken away from you, leaving you stranded in the abyss of chronic update blockage and forgetting to change my password that's been used for over 10 years. Yours humorously, The Eternally Unresponsive Webmaster Alex i come in peace
Now this is a weird post, right?
Some early commenters mentioned that this was weird - one accused “Alex” of being high - but most of them seemed to think it was just Alex being a bit goofy.
Then on page two, we have a post from The_Walrus, a long-serving moderator. Well, former moderator:
There is a >95% probability that it isn't the real Alex, and instead his account has been compromised. Firstly, Alex doesn't write like that. It just isn't his style. It's far too poetic. Alex is usually very direct and blunt. It's also self-deprecating in a way I do not associate with Alex. Additionally:
Quote:

This is pretty much spelling it out - this individual has gained access to Alex's account. Alex's email address has been involved in 30 data breaches, according to https://haveibeenpwned.com/. Having failed to update his site for a long time, the "hacker" (using that word loosely) feels that Alex has forfeited the right to it.
Additionally, all moderators and admins (apart from Alex himself) have been stripped of their permissions.
This is obviously a regular WrongPlanet user, and I can make an educated guess as to who, but almost certainly isn't the real Alex.
To this, “Alex” responded “educate my balls, Cartman”.
It seems WrongPlanet is probably permanently compromised. It has always been a site that has serious issues with spammers, scammers, and passing trolls, but those issues are only likely to get worse now.
If you are on WrongPlanet mailing lists, be very suspicious of any emails you receive. They are likely to be scams or otherwise misleading.
Please signal boost this post as much as possible... @autie-j @asdcats @chavisory I’d be grateful if you could help get the word out however you feel appropriate.

"who did this to you" is so c!dnb because Techno walks in that prison cell and he sees everything and the never fading scent of blood and fear and horror and the state Dream’s in and maybe he doesn't say the exact words but it's there, the care and worry and the need to avenge is there and I'm so so normal about it.

where flesh and metal meet
Whumptober Day 21: Body Horror
Some days Echo wakes up still expecting his hand and legs to be there. He’ll roll out of his bunk and fall when his limbs end far before he expects them to. He’ll wake the others with the noise and they’ll laugh it off, connect his limbs, and go about their day.
Ao3 Link
Some days Echo wakes up still expecting his hand and legs to be there. He’ll roll out of his bunk and fall when his limbs end far before he expects them to. He’ll wake the others with the noise and they’ll laugh it off, connect his limbs, and go about their day.
It’s not that bad. He’s made his peace with it.
There’s far worse things to miss than a couple of limbs.
Instead the metal limbs and scomp arm mean that he’s far more useful than ever. Echo can run tirelessly, jump higher, and hack into nearly any computer. He’s accepted his new limbs, they’re a part of him now.
The cybernetics are harder.
The only person Echo trusts to help him with his cybernetics is Tech. And even then, he only lets him work on it in the middle of the night. He doesn’t want the others to see, or know, the extent of what the Techno Union did to him.
Echo sits with his back to Tech, gazing out of the corner of the Marauder’s viewport at the stars. The wires that connect his head to Tech’s datapad burn across the skin of his back. They feel like flies against his shoulders and it takes everything in him not to twitch.
“There are no new codes in your system,” says Tech.
Echo can’t see his face, but he can hear the confidence all the same.
“Good.”
“However, some of the programming and interpretive software is out of date. I could create some updates for you if you like,” says Tech.
The clacking of the datapad’s buttons are the only noise in the ship.
“What?”
“The programming that lets you hack using your mind via the scomp link is not running as fast as it could be, and I could improve the haptic feedback from your legs to give you better balance over rough terrain,” explains Tech.
Echo goes icy cold.
“Are you saying I’m programmable?”
“Well, yes. Your cybernetic implants are, after all, computing parts. Your mind is like the central processing unit, while the implants take on other functionary roles.”
Echo is a good soldier. He’s been trained since birth for battle, then trained further to make ARC trooper. His squad died without him, Fives died without him, and he’s survived being blown up. There are very few things in the galaxy that are capable of frightening him. Learning this is one of them.
“Could someone reprogram me? Give me different memories or change my allegiances?”
Tech pauses. Echo can’t hear his fingers tapping away as Tech considers the question.
“At a guess, that is what was being attempted in your captivity on Skako Minor. In order to use you to your full effectiveness, it would have been best to erase any of the parts of your mind that were not related to Republic battle strategies and tactics. Since you were able to call out with your designation number, and retain your memories of growing up on Kamino and fighting in the war, their attempts to do so were overthrown,” says Tech with hardly a break for breath. “So I believe if anyone tried reprograming you like that, they would have a rather difficult time of it.”
Echo listens to the rambling explanation and tries to relax. Tech is trying to tell him that he’s in no danger of losing himself. It should be reassuring. Yet the fear is still present.
“Thanks, Tech,” says Echo anyway.
“Whatever for?”
“Don’t worry about it.”
The tapping resumes. “Would you like me to craft the updates?”
“Maybe… Maybe not quite yet,” says Echo.
Even though it’s Tech, and he just explained that Echo can’t be sliced or overridden, Echo still feels uneasy at the thought of someone simply uploading something into him. To improve him like he needs improving.
Echo made his peace with the prosthetics and the things he’s missed since being held captive and presumed dead. But the cybernetics are another story. He remembers being hooked up to computers, barely clinging onto himself. He remembers the feeling of hands digging around underneath his skin and the shock of electricity as parts were connected without his consent. Those are the things that keep him up at night.

One Of Those Things You Gotta Feel To Be True
“Oh hi,” Phil started. His wings twitched behind his back, feathers puffing up, and Techno’s eyes were drawn to the movement. “You missed supper,” Phil continued, Techno’s gaze snapping back to his face. “So I thought I’d check and make sure everythin’ was okay.” Phil was allowed to ask that, Techno decided, blinking at him. Anyone else he would say “fine” and slam the door in their face, but his teammate was allowed to ask. Among other things—Techno’s eyes were drawn to the twitching wings on his back once again—he got it. “Eh,” Techno said, shrugging slightly. “I’m gettin’ along. Could be worse.” He raised his eyebrows. “I could be workin’ on Willow squad, didn’t they have to do a PR video thing?” “Ugh,” Phil said, making a face. “I know they didn’t have to respond to incursions, but I think I’d prefer the fuckin’ battle. At least if I’m fightin’ a monster I get the chance to die, with the PR tour you have to answer fuckin’ politician questions an’ shit. Gimmie a fucked-up lizard who’s tryin’ to eat me any day.” Or: Emduo are superheroes. This isn't a good thing. But at least they have each other.

And here is the OTHER thing I wrote for @mcytrecursive. You see, @blueeyedjoy asked specifically for Emduo for this fic that I wrote earlier this year. So I HAD to write some bittersweet emduo. I just had to. This one is a bit more bittersweet/open-ended, given the source material, so check the tags and maybe check out the spoiler content warnings at the first if you didn't read the first fic.
