Typical work day
I was introduced to three "impossible" tasks today, by county administration employees:
Task #1 was a cellphone two of the employees claimed was broken, because it wouldn't send text messages. One of them had tried to for 45 minutes and her colleague (who's "good at these things") for 10. I couldn't help asking who the hell tries to send a text for 55 minutes before even thinking about say... calling? E-mailing? During 55 minutes, even walking? Anyway, I was glad my tax money paid their salaries for that almost-hour - especially when it took me 5 seconds to write and send the text with the "broken" phone.
Task #2 featured 10 minutes of explaining that yes, you can print a PowerPoint presentation, that adding a network printer is actually as easy as adding a printer, and no, you don't have to save a file to the harddrive before sending it as an e-mail, when you got the file by e-mail to begin with.
Task #3 was some woman trying to explain to me that a calendar sheet can only be made or printed by one single person on staff, and since that person wasn't working today, nothing could be done about the rest needing a friggin' calendar sheet. I tried with: "I can make one. It's not that hard." The woman answered: "No, she makes them." I said: "Yeah, but she's not here now - I am." The woman's answer to that was staring at me as if I'd just dropped out of the sky, before she walked away.
My tax money at work... I'm so happy.
