October 2, 2024 - Over 1,000 Samsung workers in Chennai, India, have been on strike for four weeks, making it India’s biggest strike in recent years. The protests have disrupted production at the factory, which employs 1800 people and contributed a fifth of Samsung’s $12 billion revenue in India last year.

The striking workers are demanding recognition of their union, CITU, and a wage increase. The average salary for the Samsung workers is currently about $300 a month. [video]

I sort of have a headcanon Tech’s interest in sounds, recording, and language started when he was pretty young, and that it started because he had some trouble communicating and being understood. Wanting to connect ended up naturally leading into curiosity about how everything else tried to communicate.

How I Think Each Member of the Bad Batch Would Act if Sick/Injured

Hunter- If he’s sick, he’s basically an “if I ignore it maybe it’ll go away” kind of guy. However, I do think if he was injured he would tell someone since he wants to be responsible and lead by example. I feel like it would be hard for him as the oldest since he wants to be strong for his siblings, but ultimately wanting to set a good example wins out.

Wrecker- If he’s sick he will seek out care. Maybe he’ll be a little bit dramatic, but his brothers don’t mind since they get to care for him. I do think he would try and brush off injuries and minimize them, since he’s used to being the strongest and feels like he should be able to deal with it and take the pain. He had to be forced to get examined and take pain meds.

Tech- Would let the others know if he was sick or injured, but after dealing with it first himself. He’d be like “oh I have a fever but I took some medicine so it’s fine no need to fret” or would just appear in the cockpit wearing a wrist brace and his siblings would be like ??? but he’s all like “I fractured my radius so I am wearing this brace; I thought it was obvious from how I fell”.

Crosshair- Would try and deal with things on his own, both illnesses and injuries, and snap at his siblings when they try and help him. Similar to Hunter in thinking if he ignores it maybe it’ll go away. Omega is the only one who can convince him to get checked out, and occasionally so can Echo or Hunter. The only exception to this is if his stomach hurts; he will be complaining the whole time and everyone on the ship is going to know. His tummy hurts and he is not being brave about it.

Echo- Mostly tries to ignore his issues or just tough it out, since he figured he’s dealt with worse so he can deal with whatever this is, but will get help if it’s something that feels more serious. He will, however, accept help and comfort from Omega, no matter how minor his illness or injury is, since he knows it helps her feel useful. Plus he hates to see her worried.

Omega- Similar to Echo in trying to tough it out at first, but she does this out of not wanting to be a bother. However, when one of her brothers inevitably pick up on her not feeling good or being hurt, she will tell them what’s going on and allow them to fret over and care for her, even if she does get a little annoyed at their mother-henning.

how do u think asuka and faust would interact

Honestly I've tried to come up with a better, more nuanced answer but I'm really not sure... They could relate to each other on account with the struggles with guilty and identity, and Asuka would surely like to look into Faust's personal brand of magic. If Faust were in a more stable state I think they'd make excellent friends, actually, I just think that at present neither of them would be able to hold a conversation to figure that out. Give it some time, maybe?

YouTube Music contract workers went on strike on Wednesday morning because of Google's refusal to bargain with the union representing the workers. Google, YouTube’s parent company, claims that because the workers are employed through a third-party contractor it has no obligation to meet them at the table, according to an email from a law firm representing Google seen by Motherboard.  These workers are contracted by Cognizant, one of the many subcontractors which works with Google and its parent company Alphabet. They’re responsible for “ensuring music content is available and approved for YouTube Music’s 80 million subscribers worldwide,” according to a press release from April, when they first voted to join the Alphabet Workers Union (AWU-CWA). The union as a whole is not yet federally recognized, as it has not achieved a majority status in the company, but the NLRB has recognized YouTube Music workers.  However, Google has refused to bargain with them, because it says it is not legally considered to be their employer. The workers, the union, and the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) contest this point.  “We have a one day strike that we’re undertaking due to Google’s continued refusal to even acknowledge us as their employees,” said Katie Marschner, a YouTube Music contract worker since 2021, in a phone call with Motherboard. “They said, ‘We will not participate in collective bargaining in connection with this unit,’ which is super illegal and disrespectful.” A Google spokesperson told Motherboard in a statement at the time of the unionization that it had “no objection to these Cognizant workers electing to form a union,” but that it would not bargain with them. “We are not a joint employer as we simply do not control their employment terms or working conditions—this matter is between the workers and their employer, Cognizant,” the spokesperson said. The NLRB, however, upheld on two occasions that Google and Cognizant were joint employers of the YouTube Music workers, and that therefore both companies were obligated to bargain a contract with them. Google said it would appeal the decision. [...] According to the union, Cognizant has also refused to bargain, citing Google’s appeals as the reason for its delay. “Google refuses to just admit that they are our employer, and then Cognizant is just using Google's legal appeals as a scapegoat,” Marschner said. “That, honestly, is exactly why we filed for joint employer status in the first place. We knew that if we just tried to engage in collective bargaining with Cognizant, that's exactly what they would do.”

Thinking about the idea that the vampires issues with growth (at least as we humans are seeing them in a 4 year period) is often brought up as like….a failing or flaw like stubbornness…and how I super disagree so I did some time scale math.

So, if a human lives to 100, a single year is about 1% of their total life.

Laszlo is 311, a year is worth about 0.32% of his total life.

Nadja is about 500 a year is worth 0.20% of her total life.

Nandor is 760, a year is worth about 0.13% of his total life.

To put this in perspective, about 46 years ago computers starting being advertised and bought as a more commercial product (but they won’t reach 50% kept in the home until 2000)

For Laszlo scaled (keeping in mind some error, because every additional year changes the conversion slightly) the computer began being marketed about 14 years ago.

For Nadja scaled the computer began being marketed about 9 years ago.

For Nandor scaled the computer began being marketed about 6 years ago.

But that’s computers, iPhones weren’t a thing until 2007, 16 years ago.

For Laszlo scaled (keeping in mind some error, because every additional year changes the conversion slightly) the iPhone began being sold about 5 years ago.

For Nadja scaled the iPhone began being marketed about 3 years ago.

For Nandor scaled the iPhone began being sold about 2 years ago.

We got from the invention of the telephone to the iPhone in about 131 years.

That’s about 42% of Laszlo’s life, 26% of Nadja’s and 17% of Nandor’s.

If you put this to a 100 year scale Lazlo experienced this development in 42 years, Nadja experienced it in 26 years and Nandor experienced it in 17 years.

So, all things considered…….I think they’re pretty well adjusted 😂

Also just for fun, Nandor and Guillermo have known each other for about 13 years, in scale, for him, this is about a year and 248 days. Thats been about 40% of Guillermo’s life.

Nandors going through a speed burn and Guillermo is going through a slow one is what I’m saying.
