It can't be that this beautiful little shotgun house in New Orleans was built in 2022. That must be the year it was renovated. Anyway, it has 2bd 1.5ba and is listed for $599,900.

It's a side hall, as you can tell from the door outside, but look at how useful it is- large enough to fit a desk.

Beautiful sitting room with pocket doors and an original fireplace, plus ceiling medallion.

Next is another beautiful sitting room with a fireplace.

They made the kitchen area very spacious by locating the cooking area in a corner.

Bedrooms are usually not very large in shotguns, and this one is cute. It has a fireplace and enough space for 2 small nightstands.

The full bath is a good size and has a laundry/folding area.

The 2nd bd. is good for a child with a smaller bed.

Very nice half bath.

I don't know what this is, b/c the listing says 2 bd, but this looks like a 3rd bd. The child's bd probably doesn't count b/c it doesn't have a closet.

Nice little tropical yard with a deck on the back of the house.

Share an interesting fact you found while doing research for your WIP

I have to do quite a lot of research about my beloved New Orleans for this one, though I have a lot in my mental library already lol. I discovered an important personage in the history of the Garden District: Jacques François Esnould Dugue de Livaudais. I love his name. His family owned a large area in what later became the Garden District, including several plantations. One of the main plantations dominated the block from Sixth, St. Thomas, Washington, and Tchoupitoulas Streets. By the 1820s, however, he and his family had fallen on hard times (why? not sure yet...), and by the 1830s his plantations were sold.

Charles Neville (December 28, 1938 – April 26, 2018) was an R&B and jazz musician known as part of The Neville Brothers. Known onstage as “Charlie the horn man”, his saxophone playing helped earn the group a Grammy Award for best pop instrumental performance.

The second oldest of the four Neville brothers, he was born in New Orleans to Arthur Lanon Neville Sr. and Amelia (Landry) Neville. He left home when he was 15 to play saxophone with the Rabbit’s Foot Minstrel Show. He played in the house band at the Dew Drop Inn.

He served in the Navy (1956-58) and discovered the music scene on Beale Street, later touring with B.B. King and Bobby (Blue) Bland.

In 1976 he returned to New Orleans when his maternal uncle, George “Big Chief Jolly” Landry, called him and his brothers Art, Aaron, and Cyril together to record with his Mardi Gras Indian group, The Wild Tchoupitoulas. The blend of traditional and funk music on The Wild Tchoupitoulas album has made it an icon of New Orleans musical culture.

The four brothers formed The Neville Brothers, recording more than a dozen albums and building a worldwide following. For years they were the closing act on the main stage of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

His saxophone playing was notable on the title track of their best-selling album, Yellow Moon, and helped earn the group its only Grammy, for best pop instrumental performance, for the album’s, “Healing Chant”.

He moved to rural Massachusetts in the 1990s with his wife, Kristin Neville, and children. In 2008 he released his album, Safe in Buddha’s Palm. He returned often to New Orleans, playing with his jazz combos at Snug Harbor and with his daughter, jazz and funk singer Charmaine Neville. He performed with two of his sons, Talyn and Khalif, as the New England Nevilles. After 2012 he toured with Aaron Neville’s solo band and appeared with him for Aaron’s first performance at the French Quarter Festival in 2017. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence
