how to make neon signs in inkscape!

I lost my mind and spent a large amount of hours yesterday perfecting my methods and figuring out how to do this, so if you're interested in making something like this:

here's how to do that!

step 1: cover your workspace in a dark grey rectangle, and lock that layer down.

I've been using 80% or 90% grey - you want this so you can see your neon effect, but you don't want it entirely black at this stage, or you won't be able to see your shadow layer.

step 2: create some text!

pro tip: rounder sans-serif fonts look the best for this, because think about what a neon sign is made of - it's tubes, bent into shapes! so if your font or design looks too sharp and pointy, it'll feel unrealistic when you make it neon.

(this is, of course, a perfectionism thing on my end, so feel free to ignore any and all rules in order to make the thing that you want to make. as with all art, you can do whatever you want forever!)

bonus pro tip: if you, like me, have over 1400 fonts installed and programs tend to lag when you browse through all of them, nexusfont is a great free software that lets you sort your fonts into categories, search them, and preview what any text looks like in different fonts! I love it. it is my best friend

now I'm going to do this with a few different fonts, so that you can see how it works with them. so today, I'm picking Futura Round, Harlow Solid Italic, and then to challenge myself, Beauty School Dropout and Block

make the text white, and also select the text and go to Paths -> Object to Path, because some things don't work right if they're not paths.

let's start off easy with Futura Round!

Step 3: duplicate your text layer

now bear with me here. but you need to take the text you're working with, and either right-click duplicate or copy/paste the layer until you have seven total copies of the text you're working with.

arrange them like this, making sure the top one is the first layer on the list (and so on), and then in the layers tab, label them like so:

pro tip: if you don't have the layers tab open, go to Objects -> Objects and Layers, and that'll pop it right up

Step 4: blur time!

switch to the Fill and Stroke tab, and make these changes to the paths:

glow small: 15% blur, 100% opacity

glow medium: 20% blur, 90% opacity

glow large: 50% blur, 70% opacity

glow xlarge: 70% blur, 70% opacity

your workspace should now look like this:

this is good!

pro tip: these numbers are just loose guidelines! at the end, mess around with everything to make sure that the glow looks right to you! nothing is an exact science

Step 5: shadow and outline

for the shadow layer, make it solid black, and then change the opacity to 50%

for the outline layer, we're doing something fun and weird. so right now it's a fill object, but we want it to be an outline instead! so let's hit the X in the lower left to make it empty, and then shift-click on...for the sake of this, let's say blue. to make our nice blue outline.

now's the weird part

now. use the align tool (Objects -> Align and Distribute), select the outline layer and the main layer, and align them so the outline text is exactly centered on the main one.

then go to Paths -> Path Effects, and when the tab opens, select just the outline layer, then click the drop-down arrow in the Path Effects tab and select Offset

here's our goal right now:

we want to offset the outline until it fits inside the text underneath it, and also mess with the stroke layer settings until you have a nice thick outline that doesn't overlap itself.

mess around with the plus and minus buttons. there are no exact numbers here; you just have to know when it looks good! but for me, the settings were a -0.34mm offset, with a stroke width of 0.700mm

this is roughly what you want it to look like:

now, with the outline layer still selected, blur it out just a bit until it looks fuzzy, and like the white center is a highlight rather than a separate layer. for me, the right number was about 8.3% of blur, to get a result like this:

Step 6: layering and changing colors

okay! at this point your work should look something like this:

you now want to select every layer except the shadow layer, and use Align to center them all on top of each other.

pro tip: make sure to untoggle "move/align selection as a group", otherwise this will not work.

you should now have something that looks like this, with the shadow layer sitting all by itself somewhere off to the side

now's the fun part: colors!

since we've decided that this neon light is going to be blue, it's time to change the glow to reflect that!

here's what it looks like when you change all of the glow layers to be that same, #0000FF blue as the outline layer

and here's what it looks like when you take the glow small layer and make it just a bit lighter (#4343FF) using the stroke and fill tab

in general, mess around with the layer colors until you like how they look! I find that it generally looks better if the glow small layer is a bit lighter, and the glow medium layer is as dark as the original color. everything else is fair game.

also the main layer can stay white (if you want it to seem very bright), or you can make it a very very light blue if you want it to be a bit more subdued.

Step 7: final steps

take your sad, neglected shadow layer, and move it slightly up and to the right of your main layer, so that it works...well, basically like a drop shadow.

then take your original rectangle, and switch it to 100% black.

now. gaze upon your masterpiece

that's a good neon sign if I've ever seen one.

but now. now's when we lose our minds

Steps 8-??: perfectionism and nonsense

so let's move the Futura one aside (and hide it! inkscape lags if there are too many blurry layers visible at once, so hide anything you're not using!), set the rectangle back to grey, and move on to Harlow Solid Italic.

I've sped through a few of the steps here (out of order) so you can see what I'm doing. I've added outlines to the large glow and xlarge glow, and bumped them up a bit so they'll have a larger glow area in general

this time I've made the large glow a little bit lighter than the xlarge glow and medium glow, and made the main layer a very pale pink instead of just white. I also blurred the outline layer just a bit more, because this font needed a bit more fuzz to make it look good.

hell yeah. this rocks.

now, one detail for perfectionism: in neon signs IRL, if you look closely, there are wires attaching them in the back, often connecting each letter to the next. so...let's do that!

get your pen tool, set it to spiro path, and then make little droopy lines connecting each letter.

make these thin, 100% opacity, and a very light (almost white) grey color. then group all of them together, and move this group under the small glow layer

pro tip: some of the cords might go mostly through the shadow layer. if this is the case, just put the cord group one layer above the shadow layer instead, and then it'll be fine. but you might make the cord color a pale-greyish pink to make it look like there's glow hitting it.

ultra advanced technique: duplicate the cord group, make it black and 50% opacity, position it slightly up and to the right of the original, and then move it one layer below it. you've got cord shadows babey!

lookit that. stare at that beautiful perfection. I love it. this brings me joy.

and now: the one that will be the most work

let's gooo Beauty School Dropout!

this one I'm using as an example for what to do with a font that's a bit too pointy to look realistic

this font is really fun and bendy, but the ends of the letters are flat instead of rounded, and the corners are a bit too sharp. so...let's fix that!

now, there are several ways we can do this (after doing Object to Path ofc).

one way is to edit the path yourself, going slowly, and making sure everything is perfect, editing the nodes individually.

or, you could select the text layer using the node tool, then click the button in the top bar labeled Add Corners LPE, and then drag the little circles and triangles around to smooth out the corners

I've decided to do the LPE method, but the problem here is that if you apply the LPE effect before making sure all of the corners look good nodes-wise, it's hell to try and fix it. so before LPE-ing, look at all the spots that you're going to apply the effect, and make sure each has one point at each sharp corner, with no weird overlapping bits. okay? okay.

also for the line beneath the text, it looks like it's made up of a bunch of different segments

and since I want to keep this line because I think it looks cool, we're going to have to deal with that, and make sure that it's all one solid piece, otherwise the outlining won't work. so I've gotta delete all the extra segments, and then move the points on just one of those segments until it's the full original line width, before rounding those corners as well.

basically I've got my work cut out for me here, this will all take a bit.

...aaand an episode and a half of Supernatural later, here's this!

look at how nice and round that is! perfect for the rest of the neon process

and with cords, shadows, layering, etc

hell yeah.

more things: it's block font time

let's make an outline-style neon sign!

my seven layers:

for all but the last two, I've not used the fill option with them at all - I have simply used the stroke outline.

now don't be worried! the stroke-to-path still works just the same way even using an outline to begin with! so it's easy to get an outline of an outline, and do the offset thing just like you did before

however, because this font is more complex-looking, there will probably be some errors when you offset it

for example, it didn't fully outline the second half of the Os, so I just copied the left halves, mirrored them, and replaced the right half with the complete left half

pro tip: keep in mind that you have to re-apply the offset to any bits that you add to the outline layer!

doing the same steps as last time, editing the glow blurs as I see fit, once again we end up with beauty and perfection.

another thing you can do: turn off the lights!

I'm going to use Beauty School Dropout and Harlow for this, but after making your beautiful neon signs, here's how to make it look like a turned-off sign, for if you want to make...idk, a gif of a light turning on and off, or a burned-out sign, or something like that.

so start with (ideally, duplicated copies of) your neon signs:

and then simply delete every glow layer, change the outline layer to 90% grey and your main layer to 70% grey, change the cords' color to a darker shade of grey than whatever it already is, and lower the opacity of the shadows by about 10-15%.

doing that, you end up with this

bam! lights turned off!

last thing: logos and other stuff

you can make neon signs with images as well as with text! the steps are essentially the same, though you may have to do more editing to make it look good, and use simplify on the path if it's too detailed.

and if you're using anything besides an .svg, you first go to Paths -> Trace Bitmap to turn your image into a vector! but unfortunately I've already used 29 images in this post, so here, just look at this Keith Haring thing I made as an example:

is it messier than the text? yeah for sure. does it have some pointy bits I could smooth out more? definitely. but, I've watched three episodes of Supernatural today, and that is more than enough time spent on this. so this is what you get.

but yeah, that's how I make neon signs in inkscape! I used to do it in GIMP, but this works much better, and looks so nice and clean! <3

Vent painting sessions!

Like when the both of you cant sleep or are feeling particularly stressed,you’ll go over to your supplies and paint out your feelings!

This is one of the only times he manages to outdo you!

We all know chuuya’s expressive,and he kinda basically wears his heart on his sleeve,in a sense; so naturally, he was great at expressing his emotions.

The colours on his canvas blended perfectly and the aggressive strokes just added to the effect!

He’d effectively depicted his feelings before you, and the result was just as beautiful as he was~

Wine and painting

Like on calmer nights yall just grab ur paints and he pours out glasses of wine for you both(IF YOU ARENT AT THE LEGAL DRINKIN AGE IN YOUR COUNTRY, YOU GET A MOCKTAIL OR NON ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE)

Its a great way to unwind and let loose tbh,maybe you’ll even have some music playing in the background to suit your mood.

Ooh little paint fights would be ADORABLE like you put a dot of paint on his cheek and he then puts one on you and it goes back and worth until you’re both just a laughing mess on the floor.

1) I knew I wanted to make my own tmnt iteration, didn't rlly have any huge thots behind my ambition tho lol. I started designing the turtles and then I kept redesigning until I found something I liked (tbh I might change a few things as I go) then came other characters so that was fun. And then I just wrote a shit ton of notes in a shit ton of Google docs, note pads, and sketchbooks. I don't rlly know man, I'm just coming up with stuff as I go along

Bro dynamics:

Raph and leo

-they fight a lot, there is a certain misunderstanding between them. They don't seem to see how similar they really are

-eventually they will see it and their bond will grow

-leo doesn't understand why Raph is the leader yet he is the favorite

-raph gets frustrated with Leo but it's out of care for him and his loved ones

Raph and donnie

-they just get each other idk

-raph sometimes hangs out in dons lab and draws

-they both have issues with anger and lashing out but Raph is better at hiding it

-they constantly tell each other to fuck off, shut up, etc but it's always playful

Raph and mikey

-pretty much just rise raph and Mikey, just make Raph more like idk chill

-they like to cook/bake together

-mikey honestly helped Raph with a lot of things he was dealing with mentally

Leo and Donnie

-its a love hate relationship tbh

-obvi they care about each other but they just have a hard time expressing it

-leo doesn't rlly understand Donnie and why he is the way he is. He feels like he's just putting on a show and being way too sensitive about stuff

-they fight the least but when they do its something, two dudes who dont have a hard time expressing their opinion but do have a hard time expressing themselves

-they always apologize after (usually) and will watch tv together or something

-will definitely get into some shit if left unattended

Donnie and mikey

-donnie likes his personal space and Mikey likes donnie's personal space

-donnie often lashes out on Mikey, similar to 2012 Donnie. But he apologizes and explains himself after

-mikey always seems fine but he is sort of scared of Donnie when he does lash out. He's seen what he does to himself (Donnie will bang on tables, stomp on his feet, hit himself, scratch or bite himself etc) and he feels dumb for fearing this but he is worried Donnie might hurt him

-donnie likes to ask Mikey a lot of questions for his inventions and stuff, Mikey likes to offer his input so it's like a fun little thing for them

Bros and splinter:

Raph

-2nd fav child

-splinter made him leader since he is the oldest

-splinter puts a lot of pressure on raph since she's the leader and the oldest

-when the turtles were younger Raph was the one taking care of the others. He hates splinter bc of that

-splinter always told Raph that he must protect the others (referring to Donnie and Mikey) because they are "weak" and "unfocused"

-raph knows that it's fucked up but is obviously still going to protect all of her siblings bc he cares about them

Leo

-fav child

-splinter sees the most potential in him bc he is the most focused, skilled, and obedient

-doesnt understand why splinter didn't make him the leader if it is clear that he is the favorite child

-even though he is the fav, he doesn't like splinter anymore than the others

-he knows splinter hurts them (emotionally and physically) but is too scared to lose his position as the favorite if he speaks up

-he feels that if it weren't for him being the favorite the others would be hurt more

Donnie

-is prob the least fav but it is unclear who is between him and mikey

-is ignored for the good things but if he screws up splinter makes sure he feels like a screw up

-things about Donnie that piss splinter off:

Random's Lore Drops - King Fluffybuns

I wanted to put goat dad and the mountain king both as the title. Unfortunately i felt like that'd be stupid. so instead, we got his nickname. Source? Gerson. Thanks gerson. Also gerson gave us this photo.

thanks a lot gerson. anyways, time to talk about goat dad a bit. or the mountain king. or king fluffy buns. or asgore dreemurr. or-

So, here we are. I finally got to work on this on June 18, compared to when I said I would on June 7th. I'm a lazy bastard, aren't I? Well, that, and I'm a cunt, but eh, it's in my nature. King Asgore. Asgore Dreemurr. This is the ruler of all of Monster-kind, and the one to declare war on any humans who fell down. King Asgore is, I'm not sure if he's misinterpreted, or if people like him. I fail to see many Asgore haters, but I personally like him. It's just that he doesn't get a lot of screen-time. Now, King Asgore is, as stated, the King. He is also the ex-husband of Toriel Dreemurr before she left him. He is a Boss Monster, as expected from a king, and he goat. (but not goated with the sauce) King Asgore is an avid tea enjoyer, a gardener, and obviously likes his wife, as well as her pies. Most definitely misses Toriel too (if it wasn't obvious at all). There's also a bunch of quotes I never even knew about from Undertale (according to the wiki) from Asgore himself, such as "I just want to see my wife. I just want to see my child." Anyways, back on topic, let's talk about why he declared war. His children. Now, if you don't know what I'm talking about, I'm talking about the day that the first fallen human and Asriel Dreemurr died. On that day, Asgore declared war on all humans, seeing as his son, Asriel, had died right after the fallen human, by the hands of the humans on the Surface. (Honestly, a better excuse than most characters). Now, all I really have is random-ass info here. First, his own feelings about HIS declaration of war. Asgore himself... does not want to harm any more people than he must (according to himself). To him, the reason why he fights you despite not wanting to, is because it is HIS duty to his people. He keeps his promise to get seven SOULs to make sure his people have hope again after all of it was drained from the death of Asriel and the First Fallen (i will not refer to them as Chara yet). There's also a moment that I assume is overlooked based on the conditions. If you defeat him once, and give Flowey the treatment he deserves (or some second weird condition i dont know about), he will start off with him saying that he will treat the human well, and care for them, before stopping himself. He then states that, for the sake of what Asriel would've wanted, Asgore OFFS himself to give YOU, a human child, his SOUL. While grim, he genuinely would care more to see YOU, a human, escape via his SOUL, and would end his own life, than to kill another human. (at least, according to the wiki that is) fucking WILD tbh. oh yeah, pacifist. During pacifist, after Toriel whoops his ass, Asgore (unlike his deltarune counterpart), realizes that he is technically to blame (when his idea was MUCH better than Toriel's, and would at least give him more of a fighting chance against modern human tech), and simply asks Toriel if they could go back to something as simple as friends. and then gets shot tf down (damn his love life and friend life's worse than mine, because i don't get rejected since i have none). Asgore is also the one to help Undyne be a part of the Royal Guard, simply because one day, she ran up to him and challenged him. After that, he decided to teach Undyne to fight, as long as she managed to hit him once (he was constantly dodging, indicating his ability to dodge, even against somebody as inexperienced as a child (WHICH ALSO INCLUDES FRISK, A HUMAN CHILD. OUR EXPERIENCES OF FIGHTING DONT FUCKING INCORPORATE TO THEM)), and she managed to do it... Eventually. Asgore and Undyne are also pretty close, seeing as she knows his favorite type of tea (probably makes sense), and that he gets marshmallows stuck in his beard when he drinks hot chocolate. tbh imma be real, if there's such thing as asgore hate i dont get it. he seems like a good father, he's a nice guy, he taught undyne, and he's a family man.

so, I don't think Cass tends to wear much jewelry, in part because I'm projecting, but also because she thinks it would get in the way (since she tends to work with machinery etc). ughh I need to finish my post about Cass and Arriela for more context for this. anyway, generally, I don't think she really had "summers" since she was home-schooled (and very unorthodox-ly), but in the actual summer, she spent a lot of time with her cousins (Melia and Andrius) since that's when they'd visit. I also think she spent more time with Arriela then (because while they grew up together, Ela did actually go to school). in her free time, I think she read A LOT and spent time outdoors (either swimming or hiking)

Sarah was definitely a summer camp kid. she went to the same camp every year and eventually became a CIT and then an actual counselor. I also think her family would go on vacations and go camping over the summer. in her free time, I think she, like Cass, would go swimming because she grew up not far from the beach. she also did gymnastics and theater. oh! and she was in a band!

she literally makes the weirdest jokes, like refers to being horny as "feeling like a transformer" (based on that 'a transformer just busted' tumblr post). and if she's not speaking in weird/obscure references, she's speaking so cryptically (she's the oracle though, she can't help it)

oh! and her accent is fake. like her grandfather is Greek, but for a time he lived in the UK, so he started faking a British accent. and it's recognizably a British accent, but I think anyone who's actually British would know it was fake in an instant. and because he raised Cass, she picked up his accent. she still has a Greek accent, she just continues to fake the British accent

this isn't odd, per say, but she does that obnoxious theater kid thing where she just randomly breaks out into song. I'm not sure what other odd habits she has. for some reason, this question was the hardest. I think because I don't tend to focus on my ocs' smaller behaviors, so I'll have to start taking note of those

u might be onto something when you said J only got casted as Sejanus as a way to lure R and make her sign for Lucy Gray 👀 cause Francis made it VERY CLEAR to the public he didn't want anyone but R for the role and made her multiple offers to fly and accommodate her family/bf so she could say YES, i remember reading on reddit how even after she declined 3-4 times lionsgate had casting sheets requesting for a R look alike, they wanted her so badly!!! And now I also remember during an interview with the 4 of them (R, T, J & H) J admitted that he got a casting request and sent - by his own admission- a mediocre ass tape, like man said he didn't even learn his lines and never expected a call back but he got it, T and R were like "why would you say this?" lmao Considering they ended up pretty much watering down Sejanus character so much on the film and most of his scenes were cut, they took the risk of casting J in order to secure R. Thank godness it worked!

I actually think J has potential as an actor, I acc liked his portrayal of Sejanus and gave him bonus points for having actual chemistry with T too. He was a highlight in WSS too (in my opinion) But he definitely needs to work on his own way to stardom without his gf intervention. I won't blame R for needing extra support on set since she's so young and new to the industry plus she was going through a massive wave of misogynist hate so I get it, hopefully since things are staring to get better for her and people are recognizing her talent she can now branch out to greater projects. We all know R is the actual star in this relationship.

YES to all of this. It’s very obvious that R got J the job. R had her sister in the film as well. They would have done anything to have her as Lucy Gray lol. They were so desperate for her and probably said to themselves “fine, let’s hire whoever her boyfriend is and hope it works out.”

And that’s the interview I was referring to (the one with R, T, J and H) where J was unprofessional and irritating. Everyone else had normal answers with how their audition process went and then there’s J who blatantly disrespected the process because he knew R got him the job already. Admitted that he didn’t know his lines, do research or anything. R and T are professional and SMART enough to know that he shouldn’t be admitting that and basically was signaling for him to shut up. R was so embarrassed and put her head down lol.

And biases aside, I agree with you about J! He does have talent and potential but R and J need to stop working together. R has multiple projects lined up for the next 1.5 years and J has 1 for right now. She’s young and new to the industry so having someone she trusts is helpful but the reality is it’s not always going to be that way. If she needs someone, maybe her sister and family can help her. I don’t want her to rely on J (or any bf!) for emotional support too much because that could end badly.

Also men tend to get resentful when women have better careers than them. They can feel emasculated if the woman keeps helping them find jobs.

Side note, I wish Snow White released this year instead of 2025 tbh. The hate train will be full speed during the promo tour but once the movie is released and those losers stop pretending they love Snow White, she will be fine.

Botw has good world building too, but each race felt kinda,,, isolated? I absolutely love the different architecture and vibe each town has (and all the the weapons too) but ghhh yea everyone felt so separated. As far as I can remember, we don’t see tooo much of the races interacting with each other? Now that I’m typing that out maybe that’s to be expected because of the calamity but KLSJDKJFD ANYWAYS THIS IS ABOUT TP

The world feels nice and alive, love how populated everything is

Castle town I like castle town a lot, it feels dense and busy and I really like how you can’t talk to every NPC you see

Very cool very fun that we got to see the Gorons hanging out in multiple spots

BUT HEY, I do remember seeing a zora or two hanging out in the hot springs around death mountain after beating the lakebed temple (I think, might have been a different dungeon) 

but aaaa would have been nice to see them in at least a couple of other places. I think it would have really added to the “congrats Link!! You’re restoring peace to Hyrule” feeling you get from seeing the Gorons hanging out in Kakariko and Castle Town

Love Midna’s theme and how they referenced the dark world theme from ALttP (I remember trying to learn the dark world theme on the piano and doing the Leonardo DiCaprio point meme at the little jingle I recognized from Midna’s theme)

Apparently references a couple of the other over-world themes from the previous zelda games (I got this from 8-bit Music theory’s video on the over-world zelda themes, he talks about TP at around 11:40 but def recommend watching the whole video if you’re into music analysis stuff)

So there’s this bit of the Hyrule Field theme, I don’t know the official name for it but I remember seeing somewhere it being called the “at an advantage theme” since yeah, you hear it during the boss music whenever you expose their weak points. FUCKINGGG LOVE THAT. Didn’t notice it during my first playthrough, but hearing it during my second was like a little easter egg for my ears every time :)

I don’t know what the hell it is, but those two just fit so well with TP?? VERY GOOD. IT’s like 10 minutes long and GOD do I love every single second of it. It doesn’t have the same energy as the skyward sword staff roll or the orchestra pieces but GOD does it hit good??

Nice and calm after that big exciting adventure. Maybe it would have been more fun or emotional to have a higher energy piece but it was really nice getting to sit back and watch the camera fly around Hyrule. Seeing like, the Gorons and the Zoras having a good time, the kids returning to Ordon? GOOD SHIT.

and AAAAA that end, when you hear the main Zelda theme and see Link riding off out of Faron woods on Epona… good shit. It gets you thinking, where the hell is he going? What is he doing? Off ot do more adventuring? Going to help out the resistance or something? Going to help Zelda? Or maybe he’s trying to figure out a way to restore the mirror of twilight? Whoooo knows.

• he’s living his youtuber fantasy, let’s be honest here

• and by that i mean that he records every step of the process. he also does this thing where he shows the products to the camera with his hand behind to make the lens focus

• i’m pretty sure he would sit you up on the counter and make you wrap your legs around him to keep him close (bye i’m evaporating)

• getting your eyeliner right on the first try is a huge flex for him. getting it even on both eyes is an even bigger one

• and he brings this up every time you’re mad at him

• « ok yeah i forgot to make dinner. but that eyeliner from last week tho… »

• most definitely has a playlist playing in the background, and you get to choose the songs because you don’t have anything else to do

• he only realizes how much he enjoyed doing this after many hours, and he probably ends up asking you to do it again at like 1am or something

• and if you accept, watch him go above and beyond to do better than the last time, because this time he is committed

• even if he knows you’re not going anywhere btw, he doesn’t really care he just wants to take a few pictures of you before you take it off and go to bed

• (he made her promise not to say anything but he definitely asked his sister for advice just because he wanted to impress you)

• and also because he thinks you look really pretty when your face is so relaxed, he can’t help but give it a few kisses every now and then

• after every stroke of the brush, he takes a step back just to make sure that it still looks good - and it does

• he also starts humming at some point, and he would be very pleasantly surprised if you started humming with him

• he refuses to use the eyelash curler because he thinks it’s absolutely terrifying (i have to agree with him)

• however, he asks a lot of questions about the rest of the products because he’s genuinely interested and wants to learn new things

• but tbh i don’t think he would be completely clueless, for him the basics of makeup is just general knowledge

• he also keeps a few samples of your products in his bag in case you need to do touch-ups during the day

• also he cleans the brushes when he’s done <33 what a king

• and he definitely offers to do your hair afterwards since he knows you’re struggling with it too

• « not doing that, no way. ask someone else » is his first reaction. but it’s just because he knows he’s going to be terrible at it

• but he accepts after a few minutes of negotiation (because he wants you to stop whining)

• so you drag him to your bedroom and sit between his legs by the window to have a better light ; honestly, it’s ideal work conditions

• surprisingly enough, he does a very good job with eyeshadow. which means that his confidence is now through the roof

• but it all goes back down in a second when he gets started on the eyeliner

• he tries to avoid this step by telling you that you would look much better without - but you really really want to see him try, so he has no choice but to give it a chance

• it looks awful

• he gets it right after his fifth try tho, but your eyes are very irritated

• because he put so much effort into this eyeliner wing, he spends the rest of the day making sure that you won’t rub your eyes and ruin his work

• although he will never admit it, he thinks it’s actually a pretty fun thing to do and he wouldn’t mind doing it again

• but he would rather do it on a day where you don’t have anything planned, because he could start making out with you without hearing that « we don’t have time for that »

• oh it’s definitely not the first time, he’s already pretty experimented

• which means that you don’t have to check on everything that he does, just let him do his thing and you won’t be disappointed

• he probably asks you to show him your outfit so that he can do a makeup with matching colors <3

• there’s one thing that drives him absolutely crazy, and it’s dark red lipstick. so brace yourself because he will put it on you no matter what

• oh and, remember that tongue thing he does before his serves ? yeah well he does that when he’s applying the lipstick as well

• i think he would eventually want to try bolder makeup looks, and if you’re too shy to wear them outside, he would !hype!you!up! until you change your mind

• if i’m being honest : your makeup has probably never looked this good

• it’s pretty frequent that he ends up putting on some eyeliner on himself, and he wears tf out of it

• since he can get pretty protective, he’s usually not a big fan of other people praising you. but he won’t mind if someone ever compliments your makeup

• but what semi loves more than makeup itself is that he gets to take a very good look at your face from every possible angle

• and he loves to discover new things about you, like a hidden mole next to your ear or a dimple under your lips for example

• honestly he knows your face so well that he could probably draw a realistic portrait of you without looking at any reference picture

• really really excited about it, and also honored to know that you trust him enough to do that !

• so get ready to spend the next thirty minutes sat on the bathroom floor surrounded by literally every product you own, because bokuto is very curious about a lot of things

• he is so frustrated to see all the different eyeshadow colors and not getting to use them all

• so he’ll probably ask to do your makeup another time just because he’s really intrigued by ‘this sparkly purple shade’

• he’s also very interested in touching all the different textures of your products, so he tries them all on the back of his hand (which looks like a mess by the end)

• he has a hard time finding the angle he’s most comfortable with so he probably moves a lot

• one second he’s sat in front of you, the next he’s behind your back and tilting your face up

• i think he would definitely squish your cheeks with one hand while putting lipstick on with the other

• he also needs constant approval on his work so he keeps a mirror within reach and waits for you to confirm that it looks good every now and then

• you might have to lie to him on his first tries tho, because he’s definitely not a natural (but that’s ok, he’ll get better)

• however, he is always proud of his work and shows you off 10x more than usual for the rest of the day

• and he gets really sad when you take it off in the evening (cue sad puppy eyes)

• if kenma’s going to do your makeup, he’s going to do it right

I don't think it's coincidental this term comes first; first and foremost John is Augustine's God and Emperor, and ultimately he is withholding something from Augustine (complete with a "for your own good"-type justification). Augustine was John's Resurrected subject first, before he became John's disciple (not counting pre-Resurrection life, where John implies that he and Augustine knew each other).

Since this statement is post-reveal of John's real power, it's also an acknowledgement of the divide between them and a reminder not to fuck with him. When it comes down to it, John is God, and that trumps everything else. Like Augustine has known all along, John is not nearly as sentimental as he can seem when he's going on about "brothers" and "beloveds", etc.

Also symbolic, but importantly: John is consciously taking a step back from the power dynamic of the first term. He is their God, but he'd prefer to be their brother in "The Work" of the Resurrection and avenging humanity; that he wants to be among them rather than above them.

I get the vibe that he's referred to them in that capacity prior to the reveal of his real power, and it's smart for him to do, because he's probably aware that if he actually gave the impression of holding himself back from his Lyctors, or they became aware of his invulnerability, they'd eventually come to resent him and want to kill him. So he signals vulnerability and a kind of equality to defuse tensions before they arise. Like Abigail says, he never claimed omnipotence, and this is him playing that up, probably for multiple reasons.

Also, I love the use of the term "brothers" in the sense of "shieldmates"—they've bled for this shared cause, so they're joined by that. Solid, martial, gay. A+

Also, I think that John is lonely as God, because he really is Just Some Guy, even though he is essentially immortal and his power is completely beyond the Lyctors'. Maybe part of him wants that equality, even if he can't have it, and even if there's another part of him that won't allow them to ascend to his level because they could become a real threat at that point.

Dynamic: Partners in The Work, servants of the same cause, buddies in the trenches

I feel like Tamsyn is aware of the "lover"/"beloved" dichotomy in Greek texts lol (probably more familiar with it than I am, tbh), so I won't go too into detail about that. Other than to say that it does Imply Things to me about the kind of intimacy they have, the kind of adoration Augustine has for John, the kind of devotion John is promising to Augustine, the way Augustine offers himself to John, and it makes me want to write fic about them.

And, honestly—John calls him "beloved" but they've only banged twice?? That doesn't sound right.

It is also a spiritual metaphor, though—sometimes you'll run across allusions to God as a pursuing lover and the writer/speaker in whatever text as the pursued or beloved. Sexual ecstasy and spiritual ecstasy, etc.

(ngl I would be super interested to know if John would've said the same thing to Mercymorn, circumstances being different)

"Lyctor"

After thinking about this, I love how this is positioned between "beloved" and "saint" because the reader is probably at least familiar with both of those words, and if you have to guess at the meaning of the word, you can kind of come up with a definition from the surrounding words that is... completely wrong.

There is a Latin word, "lictor", which was, as far as I can tell, a political title, so that's probably what "Lyctor" alludes to in-universe. They seem to have been primarily bodyguards to political figures, including consuls, kings, emperors, and dictators, which is interesting given that Alecto is the only one referred to as John's "bodyguard" and he doesn't seem to have used any of the Lyctors as her replacement. The sources I've looked at also state that they carried fasces and had the power to carry out capital punishment.

"saint"

"Lyctor" and "saint" get used almost interchangeably in the text, and the difference is never fully explained. But now that the meaning of "Lyctor" is a little clearer, this seems like "saint" is more clearly a religious/spiritual title rather than a political one. In the previous, John is their Emperor, and they are his Lyctors; in this context, John is their God, and they are his saints.

How different do you think the Batman movie would have been if Ed figured out Batman’s identity before he killed anyone? Do you think he would stop killing because he knew that Batman wouldn’t like that?

this is such a good question because... i have absolutely no idea!

ed's hated bruce since his days in the orphanage, even before he learned about renewal and sought out his eventual victims. it's purely personal; bruce has never interacted with him in a way that would provoke this kind of hatred - unless you count the start of before the batman, where the two meet eyes and bruce gives his best smile (awkward as it may be) and ed tries to explode him with his mind.

he sees him as nothing but this little rich kid sitting in his ivory tower and watching the other orphans crumble along with the renewal fund, getting all the publicity and press riled up abut his sob story yet never doing anything to deserve it. ed believes bruce had no reason to even be upset over his parents' deaths, at first because he still has all the money that comes with being born a wayne, and later because (he thinks) thomas was just as much of a corrupt liar as the rest of "gotham's elite."

alternatively, batman is his idol. he inspired him, more or less leading him to becoming the riddler. he even spends the entire movie thinking their working in conjunction, that batman is helping him as his partner. he thinks he understands him more than anyone else, establishing that although everyone else wants to know who's behind the mask, it doesn't matter because this is his true nature. and he's right.

there's no real way to tell exactly how ed would react upon learning his parasocial mortal enemy and partner are the same. there's the argument that it'd definitely crush him, which is likely, given how he reacts just to batman saying they aren't partners. but then there's the fact that he'd have to wrap his mind around how they could possibly be the same.

ed doesn't know all of bruce's turmoil, obviously, and never will, so the question he'd have to grapple with would be how can this snobby rich kid who could care less about how gotham actually is be the same man that seeks to help people, just like him?

the other question, being: which is more powerful; ed's admiration for batman or hatred for bruce wayne?

and with this i offer you my personal opinion influenced solely by the fact that it'd be a little silly.

first, i don’t think anything would prompt ed to not go through with his plans. he’s incredibly dedicated, and even though batman was his inspiration the supposed discovery of his identity wouldn’t be enough to get ed to stop. his belief that what he’s doing will help gotham (and get him that - tbh - well deserved revenge) is so ingrained into his mind that i don’t think anything could possibly throw him off of this path.

if anything, depending on when he made this discovery in reference to the halloween of his first kill, he’d likely have to postpone and rethink. a lot.

his plan hinges on batman in several ways:

1. batman receives his clues and leads the gcpd to the next because they’re way too dumb to do so on their own

2. he helps him during his interrogation of colson by feeding him answers while he’s too shocked/pressured to respond, as well as forces him to answer the questions as truthfully as possible, even if he refuses to reveal the rat at the end. this pushes ed’s point that the people in power care too much about themselves to tell the truth (bribe question - which he wouldn’t have answered without batman pushing him to) and clues both us and his stream viewers into the fact that the rat is someone to be feared and is powerful enough to be a threat to colson and people he cares about. 

3. he brings falcone into the light - albeit kind of unintentionally on batman’s part, since - iirc - he thinks ed means it figuratively, as in “into the public eye” instead of. well. literally the streetlamp so ed can get a good shot. 

so pretty much he needs him to make everything work, which brings us back to the question of if ed would let his hatred for bruce wayne get in the way of his admiration for batman and therefore...his entire scheme.

personally, i’d argue that his vendetta against bruce and the waynes as a whole would be enough to overpower his love for batman.

one possibility is that he rewrites everything to not include batman at all, but this would probably backfire given batman’s insistence on helping (plus the fact that he doesn’t go to the crime scene under the assumption he’s related to the case, he just. shows up) and the necessity of batman’s cooperation for everything to work.

another is that he keeps everything the same and uses batman to get what he wants - minus killing bruce wayne.

or. or. he does kill bruce wayne.

this would be under the assumption that even knowing bruce is batman he’d still want him dead, as well as ed’s certainty that the gcpd would be able to get falcone and bring him into the light like he asked. 

the only reason ed’s unable to properly kill bruce in the movie is because his method of killing stems from observing his targets. for mitchell, there’s literally a direct shot of him watching him in his house before moving in for the kill. he’d also been planning for a while, so choosing halloween was no coincidence - mitchell’s family would be out trick or treating, leaving him alone in the house. as for savage, ed got him coming out of the gym. gordon even commented that he liked to go at night when no one was around, so ed must have known this in order to get him. colson, he’d have to know when he went to 44 below, for how long, where he parked his car in order to properly break in without being detected, etc. etc. etc.

bruce, on the other hand, rarely made a public appearance. as far as ed knew, he didn’t have any sort of recognizable schedule, instead hiding in and observing gotham from wayne tower. he couldn’t break in there as easily as he could mitchell’s house, especially without knowing who else might be in there to catch or witness him. that left sending him a package as his only means of getting to him.

but. if he knew bruce was batman, he’d know his schedule exactly.

he could have even used leading batman to the orphanage as his means of killing him (by some means other than fighting because there’s no way he could take batman. in a fight.), although that would risk directly unmasking batman as bruce if they find the body. 

that’d be pretty boring for the movie tho, so per your exact question, it’d probably make more narrative sense if batman survived and ed didn’t want to expose him, even after being arrested. 

if anything, ed knowing bruce is batman pre-movie would probably have risked the arkham scene being...less interesting? maybe? no ave maria at the very least </3

They’re setting S3 up to flop—inexplicably—since they could’ve tried rehabbing the characters next season before S4. It’s bad: Penelope and Colin are both assholes and not even In a fun way. Penelope is a villainous loser; Colin is useless and a prick. Luke is tbh just not attractive and has negative charisma. Like that he’s going to be in the company of RJP and JB insults me personally. There’s no chemistry to speak of over two seasons. Their story is pretty sad/pathetic. And they’re following Kanthony. Whew lmao.

S3 will probably be like S2 in that Kate and Anthony will make it worth watching.

You're very right, Pelican has become unbearable on the show. I agree with every word said about Penalty in this ask. She clearly is the villain but constantly victimises herself - I’m so sick of her schtick. These are no longer the characters from RMB anymore. However, I will refute that Colin isn't so much an asshole but an idiot - a racially ignorant one now after his first interaction in S2 with Will. It felt so charged with racial undertones, it left with a bad taste in my mouth. Yeah, he tried to apologise for it with bringing Will customers but too little too late. He should have never talked to him that way in the first place.

While I used to bully (affectionate) Newts for not looking like a HR hero, but now I try not to put down his looks anymore it's not like he can control it. It was a mix of genes and the HMU this season who decided they needed to make him look homeless and got a bad tan from Beverly Hills. They did him so dirty this season. Aren't people coming from vacay supposed to look better??

I've talked about his lack of charisma on screen before: he is pretty sweet in interviews but doesn't shine on screen. More on that in this post and the exact snippet here for reference:

I think the smart decision would be to stick to the books order and just give Luke T his time to shine as Benedict in S3 - like Benny was just okay and a little creepy in his book but I didn’t know this as an S1 viewer and thought Luke T stole the show as Benny. He’s just so expressive and effortlessly hilarious, he definitely makes an impact every season with the limited time he’s got. So hopefully Luke T can join the ranks of RJP & Jonny next season - pick the right Luke, Shonda you can do this. 

Like you said, S3 needs to be for Pelican to have a rehabilitation of their characters - Penalty NEEDS to do an apology tour or her redemption will mean nothing but these writers hate making their protags take accountability so I’m not holding my breath. Newts as Colin needs a glo-up - either commit to a full beard or yeet it, and get him a better hairstyle. Character wise, mans needs an interest, personality and arc that is his own and doesn’t revolve around Penalty and Greece. As for the chemistry bit, I don’t know how I feel about it tbh because in S1 it was kinda cute because we’ve all been there with an unrequited schoolgirl crush that we eventually get over. He also seemed to get along with her well enough. So I was pretty neutral and their chemistry wasn’t overwhelming me in a good or bad way for me to comment on last season. This season, coupled with the fact that she almost killed Marina, her crush is very creepy and obsessive and now it may be a bias against them but I do not see any chemistry at all. 

Their book story was okay the overall plot was too 'perfect' and polished so they felt very superficial and their conflicts were silly. They lacked the depth some of the stronger couples of the series had (Kathony & Franchel babey - I haven’t read Hy & Greg’s books so cannot comment on those yet) Not to mention, the way he treated her in the books when he was jealous was problematic. I have no idea what they are gonna do for the show but I worry for his life. He's gonna fuck up one of these days and she's gonna fuck his shit up even more. As if imploding his first engagement and calling him stupid for it wasn't enough.

As much as I disliked 70% of the changes made to Book 2 and alll the stupid Featherington side plot screen time, the show as its own thing PEAKED this season. Jimone brought their A-Game and carried this season on their backs. The general audience ADORES them and they are going to be a tough act to follow not going to lie. Honestly I truly think Luke T’s Ben paired with an equally strong Sophie can pull it off! Someone call @sweetestviscount Lav's chiropractor, Kathony and Ben are gonna need him after carrying Pelican's season - may it be S3 or 4 (for everyone's sakes it better be in S4).

If S3 truly is about Pelican, I really want to send Shondaland a message and not watch it. I refuse to give them my views for making SUCH a bad decision and will probably pirate the season if my curiosity gets the better of me or as I’ve said in previous asks, I’ll just watch the YT scene compilations of Kathony and my other faves in S3.

Okay. I warn y'all that this is very much a Poast™. This is another one of Those Poasts™. You have been warned.

I very much blame (affectionate) @autisticandroids for this, since this is pretty much me trying to combine as many concepts as possible from the #mpregpocalypse tag.

In this au, Cas is pretty much just collecting babies left and right. The following stuff are all simultaneously true in this spn mpreg rewrite:

- Cas absorbs the deanlisa baby and carries the child himself. This is his first pregnancy. This is also the most "monstrous" of his children because of the godstiel stuff and the leviathans.

- For maximum effect, I don't want Cas to give birth just yet. I want Benny to see Cas with the baby bump and put the dots together in his head. I want Cas to give birth alone, after Dean and Benny already went through the rift. I want Naomi to take Cas out of purgatory and leave his child alone there. I want Cas to grieve for the loss of his child when he remembers. (We'll go back to this in the future.)

- Dean fucks Casifer at one point and impregnates Cas' body. (I mean, with Casifer peeling off his layers and thotting up the place while in the bunker? Not surprising tbh.) NOTE. I wanna be clear with something: this baby is Dean and Lucifer's nephil. I mean, biologically it's a Destiel baby, but with Cas' grace growing weaker and him being possessed by Lucifer, in terms of grace this is pretty much Lucifer's nephil. (But also not??? Because what allowed the conception to happen in the first place is Cas wanting it SO BAD.)

- No one else notices the conception of this baby because Cas hides it within himself (the same way he did with the deanlisa baby) and pauses the pregnancy at will.

- When Cas meets Kelly, they are very much BOTH pregnant with Lucifer's kid. Remember that screenshot where they both look pregnant and bonding about their babies? Yeah, this is inspired by that. When Cas touches Kelly's baby bump and they like soulbond or whatever, Kelly looks at him and goes "oh you're pregnant too?"

- Cas tells him that it's Dean's child, but leaves out the Lucifer part. They already have one Lucifer nephil in danger, he doesn't need anyone else knowing this secret (especially since he hid the nature of this child so well for so long). Kelly thinks he's hiding it because of the Dean part.

- They both know Kelly's not gonna survive giving birth, so they already have a plan: Cas will transfer the pregnancy to himself when it's almost time for Jack to come out (the same way he did with the deanlisa baby). Cas is confident that he'll survive what Kelly cannot. (His hubris, of course, always tend to bite him back.) Dean, Mary, and Sam arrive just in time to see Cas pregnant and about to give birth. Kelly catches them up on the plot.

- Cas dies of childbirth due to an unexpected complication: the pregnancy transfer triggers the birth of the other child inside him, which makes him give birth to TWO children. The strength of the explosion unfortunately kills both him and Kelly, rendering Cas' sacrifice as pointless. (As much as I wanna keep Kelly alive, the point of this au is to inflict as much damage as possible)

- Lucifer and Mary still get stuck in Apocalypse world, and now Dean and Sam have to care for TWO children, one of which is Jack (who still grows quickly) and...another baby? They have no idea who the fuck this baby is until they find two videos: one made by Kelly and one by Cas (a backup plan they made just in case one or both of them don't survive).

- In the video, Cas reveals that the child is his and Dean's nephil (again, removing the Lucifer part). Dean just takes it in stride (since they had enough sex in the later seasons for it to be a genuine possibility) and takes Cas's word.

- In any other scenario, Sam would definitely be teasing Dean for impregnating Cas. But since Cas is dead and they're still grieving, he shelves this conversation for a future time. (With so much plot happening, Sam never finds the right chance and eventually just forgets it. He's just happy that he was right all along.)

- They agree to never let anyone else learn about the baby's nature, which the baby seems to understand as well, choosing to not manifest any angelic abilities. In fact, the baby internalized Cas' instructions to keep all their secrets under wraps that the kid goes selectively mute throughout the series. (I wanna see Eileen teaching ASL to the kid.)

- The two babies scenario works great for two reasons: it satisfies my "give Dean a baby" instinct (that pretty much drives my baby jack truthing) while still keeping Jack the way that he is in canon.

- Dean lets the baby rest on Cas' chest for a short while before wrapping Cas up with the curtains. Both Dean and the baby cry over the body.

- I want to give Jack as many Problems Disorders in this au. I want him to be jealous of the way Dean treats his twin (because they're pretty much twins, right? They have the same grace-father, they got birthed by the same body, so yeah).

- Dean treats the baby with as much care and love while still treating Jack like shit. Sam once calls him out on it and says "Dean, they're both Cas' children." Dean throws out an "I can hardly look at the freak" rant. Jack wakes up Cas from the Empty, yada yada.

More fucked up shit below the cut:

- I wanna keep this as close to canon as I can, so Dean would still exhibit suicidality before Tombstone. You would think that the baby would at least hinder this instinct, but he genuinely believes that he's poison and that everyone he touches dies. (And besides, Sam is good with both Jack and the baby so they won't need me anymore, right?)

- Cas comes back, and things mostly stay the same as in canon (except there's now a baby there, who honestly won't influence much of the plot until later). Dean never really apologized that much to Jack in canon (and I still hate it) but in this au, it would work perfectly. I want Jack to believe that Dean still sees him as a freak, even if he's a bit nicer now that Cas is back. (I can and will put my entire pussy into the Dean-as-John, Jack-as-Sam parallels.)

- When Jack kills Mary, Cas hides it from Dean and Sam. We're going full Torturewife on this one, folks.

- Jack's truth spell forces Cas to confess that (1) Cas hid the fact about Jack's soullessness; (2) Cas lied about Jack killing Mary, and; (3) the Destiel baby is technically a Dean/Lucifer nephil. Chaos fucking ensues.

- Dean has to confront the fact that both of the kids (HIS kids) are Lucifer's spawn.

- Chuck doesn't really care about the baby since it never manifested any powers (yet), unlike Jack (who is a genuine threat to him).

- Moriah happens, Jack dies. (And it's even more fucked up now because despite being soulless, Jack remembers all the insecurities he got from Dean. The "It's okay, I understand" line Jack says to Dean while having a gun pointed to him is sooooooo.) Rupture happens, their divorce is finalized and Cas takes custody of the baby.

- Cas having some father-child bonding with the baby as a breather between all this fucked up stuff.

- The Trap happens, they make up, and oh? Who's this person who helped Cas escape and get the flower? It's the deanlisa baby, but now grown! Together with Emma! She was thankfully found by her big sister, Emma, when she was a baby in purgatory. She had to grow up fast and now they survive together.

- After eating Eve in order to save Cas, the deanlisa child is now technically the new Mother of monsters. Dean explains the Chuck problem, so the two choose to come with them to help.

- Cas never really explained the deanlisa baby, huh? When they get back with their now grown child (and Emma, who doesn't really hold a grudge over the entire Sam killing her thing) and Cas explains, Dean is baffled but takes it in stride. I mean, they just made up! He doesn't wanna fight with him anymore and he wants the family together again!

- They make the two stay with the baby so they'll be safe in the bunker while they try to trap Chuck with the Mark of Cain spell. It fails, of course. (But hey, at least there was sibling bonding time in the bunker.)

- Billie brings back Jack and they formulate a plan (Billie doesn't go evil in this one btw.) They strengthen Jack, Jack knows that he'll be a bomb and is totally fine with it. "Maybe if I do this one good thing, Dean won't see me as a freak anymore." Remember, Jack internalized a lot of the shit Dean said.

- Cas attempts to call out the self-sacrificial bullshit and that Dean actually loves him, but Jack insists. "You would do the same! In fact, you have done the same! (In reference to the Empty deal, which still happens here btw.) I'm just learning from all of you." If there's one thing I'm obsessed about in fics, it's when Jack calls them out for learning martyrdom from team free will.

- Dean finds out about the plan and tries to talk Jack out of it. They have a heart-to-heart, Dean finally fucking apologizes for all the complexes that he's given Jack, and Jack (for the first time) finally believes that Dean doesn't see him as a monster anymore. Jack stops the process so he doesn't become a bomb (but at least he's stronger than he was before).

- They call Billie to come up with an alternative plan. She considers the options, and says an alternative plan would be harder and would require more players in the field. "As long as we don't have to sacrifice any of our loved ones anymore, we're good," Dean says. "I don't think that's an easy request, but we'll try," Billie says, giving a pointed look at Cas. (Hmmmm, wonder how this would come to play later?)

- Billie points out that the destiel baby is in fact not powerless, but is instead choosing to supress their own power. If the child can be convinced to unlock their own capabilities, then perhaps they might stand a better chance at winning.

- They spread out to gather more allies: Sam goes to Rowena, Dean goes to Michael, Billie goes to Gabriel (yes, he's alive here), and the kids stay in the bunker with Cas to try and explore each other's abilities. (Since I hated the Michael-Lucifer nonsense of 15x19, none of that happens here. Lucifer doesn't go back and Michael doesn't betray them.)

- Jack finds out that he can push out all the energy he gathered for the bomb into a one-time-use blast. They find out that the baby can apparently enhance the power of whoever they're holding. And the new Eve apparently has traces of Godstiel/Leviathan still in her after being in the womb with them. (She also spends the time catching up with Cas because they've not seen each other for years.) Emma is just vibing there, adoring her powerful younger siblings and interrogating her father's...husband? Boyfriend? Ex? (She's still confused about their status.)

- This goes just like in S11, and they go all out and attack Chuck together until he's weak enough for Death's scythe. There's one shot where the kids are just holding hands to power each other for Jack to deliver a fatal blow. Billie is just around the corner, ready for the final blow, when Cas turns to Dean.

- "Dean, I need to say something." Cue the 15x18 confession scene, except this time Dean knows about the deal now. So the moment Dean realizes what Cas is doing, he tries to stop him.

- "Stop, please stop. Don't say it, you don't have to say it." Because of course, happiness is in just being, it's in just saying it. And Dean knows what true happiness would do.

- But unfortunately, Cas has to do it. (Billie talked to him about it, and her scythe won't exactly do a clean job with something as powerful as a Chuck-Amara hybrid. I don't know when or why they fused together since the bomb plan was cancelled, but it happened here okay? Yeah. So they need something that is guaranteed to be older and greater than God or the Darkness—the Empty. Billie can only go there, but she can't summon it to be on Earth. Enter Cas' deal.)

- Cas says "I love you," Dean reciprocates, they share a final kiss, and then Billie finally reaps God. The Empty arrives to take Chuck, and Cas shares one final moment with his kids before accepting his fate.

- Billie goes to the Empty to make sure the job was done, and she finally gives the Shadow the sleep that she promised. She uses her scythe on the Shadow, because death is the final slumber. (Of course, you can't exactly kill nothingness; she only destroyed an embodiment/personification of the Empty.)

- Post-fight. They're happy because Chuck is finally defeated but also...Cas. Before they even have the chance to process what the fuck just happened, Billie is back and she has Cas with her. "I just put the Shadow into sleep, so it's not like anyone would notice," she says. The problem is that Cas is still very much asleep. (He still has some grace here btw. Maybe he's not at full angel anymore, but he's not fully human either. There wasn't a need to cut out his grace without warning.)

- Dean and the kids crowd Cas' body. The baby's touch on Cas's shoulder (which burns a mark that parallels Dean's) is what wakes him up. Reunion kiss!

- Happy ending! Michael (with Adam) goes back to heaven to fix things, and they are very much implied to be a couple. Midam rights babyyyyyy! Gabriel goes back to roaming the world and occasionally visits the kids.

- Sam and Eileen organizes a hunter's network and organizes a bunch of safety protocols and rehabilitation projects with the help of the new Eve (which most monsters obey, key word most). Oh, and Saileen definitely swings regularly with Rowena (and occasionally with Gabriel when he's around).

- Emma decides that she likes hanging out with the Wayward Sisters better (and you know what? Good for her). The new Eve decides to hang out there often as well (whenever she isn't busy with monster diplomacy or something).

- When Jack finally feels safe and peaceful enough, he reverts back to his child form. The baby, who has been selectively mute this entire time, holds their brother's face in recognition and utters their first word, which is "JACK!" Dean and Cas cry in joy over this entire exchange. (That's his twin! He missed his twin!)

- They move out of the bunker to get their own house by a lake or something. Whenever the topic of pregnancy comes up again ("Dean, when do you want another baby again?"), they can now playfully joke about it and Dean says something like "Don't steal someone else's baby again, okay? The next baby to be inside you needs to be mine." They're both stupidly horny about the subject, I hate them so much.

- Whenever there's an important event, they all celebrate it in the bunker for the extra space (because their family is, indeed, very large). END.

There's something poetic to me about the Empty being the one that beats Chuck in this mpreg rewrite because technically, the Empty is the Original Womb that gave birth to God. It it the nothingness of potential, the dark water of pregnant beginnings.

All this talk about the Empty and stuff also made me stop and think about the metaphysics of spn. The fact that the Darkness and the Empty are two distinct entities says something interesting about the metaphysical reality of spn. It doesn't treat darkness as a mere absence of light, a mere nothingness, but rather a thing/substance of its own. It's a very Manichean kind of metaphysics as opposed to a Platonic/Neoplatonic one. (Oh, St. Augustine would probably have a blast trying to unravel whatever the fuck is happening with spn.)

The fact that it's also Cas' free will that brought upon God's demise? Delicious.

Soft hours indeed, I’m a sucker for this kind of thing. They’re aged up just a bit here in my head, maybe around 20-22?

KUROO TETSUROU

You ask Kuroo if he wants to come with you one evening when you go over to your brother’s to make a meal for him and his wife, you’ve been there pretty often to help out since their son was born a few weeks ago, but he hasn’t had a chance to come until now

When you walk into the house, you immediately veer off to the baby bassinet set up in the living room, and he hangs back a little bit because tbh babies make him a tiny bit nervous

But then he sees the soft look you get on your face as you’re cooing down at the baby and he’s slowly scooting a little closer until eventually he’s hovering right next to you

You reach down and pick up your little nephew, and then you cuddle him close and look at Kuroo with a smile and say, “Look, it’s your uncle Tetsu!!” And he’s just -- *clutches chest*

Seeing you snuggling that tiny baby just brings this weird dopey grin to his face, and he knows he’s supposed to be looking at the baby, but he kind of can’t help but look at you and the tiny smile on your face

And now he’s kind of thinking that maybe babies aren’t so bad or scary after all, especially when you make it look so easy

“Cute,” He says softly, and he’s not really sure what he’s referring to - probably the whole picture, but it seems like you just think he’s talking about the baby

“You can hold him,” You say, and before he can refuse you’re carefully settling the baby in his arms and he’s kind of surprised by how warm the little bundle is, and how the weight feels in his arms

Then you rest your head on his shoulder and he is suddenly g o n e, he has ascended, it’s like he’s under some weird kind of spell or something because suddenly he’s envisioning this exact scenario except the baby in his arms belongs to the two of you

“He’s so cute, isn’t he?” You ask softly, giving his arm a squeeze, and he just has to nod because he isn’t sure what will come out of his mouth if he tries to talk

Later on it does wear off a little bit when he’s out of the moment, but there’s definitely a little seed of something that wasn’t there before when he looks at you, because he has a little bit better of an idea of the life he wants, now

TSUKISHIMA KEI

When you go to visit your sister in the hospital after she had her baby, Tsukki is mostly going along just to humor you - he’s not all that interested in kids, he finds them a bit annoying whenever he sees them out and about

When you walk into the room, your sister is holding the baby, she looks up and smiles - he thinks that he hasn’t seen anyone who looked that tired also looking that happy and he kind of does a double take

Then he sees you lean over the edge of the bed and peer down at the baby and your face just instantly lights up, which does something funny in his middle

“Oh my goodness, hi sweetheart,” You’re cooing at the little baby, reaching out and touching her tiny cheek with your fingertip - that kind of thing would normally make him roll his eyes but for some weird reason he doesn’t mind it?

Then your sister hands you the baby, and he can’t help but notice how gently you take her, being careful to cradle her head in the crook of your elbow and holding her close

“Don’t you want to see her, Kei?” You ask with a soft laugh, and that’s when he realizes he’s still kind of hovering by the door, he sort of forgot to keep walking into the room

He makes his way over to you and leans down to look at the baby, he doesn’t realize at first that his head is nearly brushing yours because he’s just kind of studying this little tiny human in your arms

“I can’t believe how tiny she is,” You finally murmur, looking up at Tsukishima with this incredibly soft look on your face - it really catches him off guard, so he can only nod and stutter out some kind of half-response

“You wanna hold her?” He almost jumps out of his skin but for some reason he nods and holds out his arms, so you settle the baby into them

He’s kind of oddly aware of how close you are, and how nice this feels, with this soft little bundle in his arms and you hovering by his side, cooing and talking softly while he just sort of takes everything in

Maybe, just maybe, babies aren’t so bad after all

IWAIZUMI HAJIME

It’s the first family gathering where your brother and sister-in-law have brought their daughter, so she’s been passed around the room for most of the evening, being cooed over and loved on

Iwaizumi is just kind of watching all of this from a distance until you approach your aunt and say, “my turn!” when you take the baby out of her arms, and suddenly you’re walking over to him with a big grin on your face

“Isn’t she the sweetest little thing?” You ask, carefully adjusting the ribbon on her head (he’s a guy and everything but even he’d admit if pressed that it’s stupid-cute)

You’re pressed up against him so he can see the baby too, and something about this moment feels so strangely intimate that his face is suddenly starting to get a little hot, but he manages to nod and mumble a, “Yeah.”

It’s not like he hasn’t already been thinking about a ring and all of that, but this kind of has him shook - seeing you holding this tiny baby is making him think about things he always figured were quite a way down the road

He finally looks up from the baby to you and that’s a Mistake because you’ve got this doofy little grin on your face and full on heart eyes, and he doesn’t know if he’s ever loved you more

Suddenly he’s got these domestic scenarios floating through his head, and all of the things that he’s sort of always known in an abstract way he wanted to share with you are becoming more tangible

“You should hold her before someone else snatches her up,” You interrupt his thoughts (thank god - he doesn’t really know where he was going with all that) and he lets you put the baby in his arms

“Aww, Hajime,” You say, scrunching up your nose and looking at him with a grin, “I should take a picture of you,” and the thought of Oikawa’s howling laughter at the sight of the photo you might take is pretty effective in shaking him out of the weird little trance - for now - and he frowns, which only makes you giggle

“Fine, but you are pretty cute holding her,” You say in a voice so low only he can hear, giving his arm a squeeze

He finds himself thinking about the future just a little bit more than usual after that evening, and soon there’s a little velvet box in his nightstand just waiting for the perfect opportunity
