Lovely prompt by @stealingyourbones in her long prompts list, in which Danny Phantom meets the Rogues of Central City! This will have multiple parts, I just haven't written them yet.

Disclaimer: I know very little about Captain Cold and Mirror Master despite having watched some of the Flash. The general vibe I get from Flash is that Flash just really cares about his rogues as evidenced by how he talks to them and doesn't immediately one-shot them like I'm pretty sure he could do. And that Captain Cold is a snarky asshole that just wants to steal things and follow his plans as planned? Tbh, the whole mini-arc/episode with him just felt like Snart was trying to coordinate the world's riskiest group project. He was so done by the end lmao

"Huh. That's new."

Danny hovered an inch off of the ground, having just been spat out by swirling green portal. He was going to have to get back to the Zone later to hot potato Skulker through a couple of portals in revenge. He had a math exam he had to study for, dammit.

Danny sighed. Might as well see what's happening. The portals rarely lead somewhere boring, and Danny was bored. He floated further in, form going intangible and invisible as he passed through thick but insulated marble walls. See, Jazz? He could totally plan ahead. He's also learning that he could probably rob a bank easily, but Danny would never.

"Never been spat out in a bank before," he hummed, eyes flickering on the numerous forms of cowering people in the lobby. The goons scattered about don't see him, but it would take another ghost to even detect his presence so it was to be expected. He moved further in with little hindrance and soon touched down onto polished floor behind two incredibly suspicious individuals.

"What-cha do-ing?"

The two figures, currently and obviously robbing a bank, whirled around in surprise. Their respective weapons whirred to a start before they stopped, baffled by the meta teen standing there with his white hair waving about and innocent look pasted all over his face.

Leonard Snart knew instinctively that the kid was so full of shit. He'd bet his entire plan on the fact that the kid knew exactly what kind of shit he was stirring. Still, Snart was guilty of a lot of things but direct child-endangerment wasn't ever one of them.

"How'd you get in here, kid?" Mirror Master raised his laser pistol, ready to distract and divert the kid with threats of violence- which Snart glared at him for- or with his hall of mirrors that he'd run to.

Danny shrugged. "I walked. If you guys didn't want me here, you should have guarded the place better."

"They were supposed to," Snart drawled. He cased the kid. Teen. The kid had a weird halo effect, that seemed to draw the eyes to the stylized letter on his hazmat suit. The kid was young. Meta. Non-hostile. "You trying to stop us?"

Danny shook his head. "Nah. Came from the Ghost Zone so 's really non'a my business. I was just being nosy."

Snart gave a curt nod and nudged Mirror Master back into cracking the security measures.

Mirror Master scoffed. "What the hell is a ghost zone?"

"I mean, it's pretty self explanatory, right? It's a zone where ghosts live. Hence, you know, Ghost Zone." Danny did a little jazz hands (oh, yeah, he was definitely gonna get Jazz to make that joke sooner or later) for emphasis.

Snart paused for the slightest bit before continuing with his task. Did ghosts exist?

"...Did the Flash send you here, kid?"

"I'm not a kid," Danny scowled, walking right up to them. He got enough of that from his own Rogues, thank you. "And what's a Flash?"

"The Flash, kid." Mirror Master corrected, shoving monitors and PC's and expensive looking office chairs into... a mirror dimension? Danny shrugged and rolled with it.

"Who's that? Your boss?"

"Local superhero, not our boss. You're not from here," Snart quickly deduced as a small smile wormed onto his face from successfully cracking the security without setting off an alarm. They'd have ten minutes before the system cycles the access codes again and flags the fraudulent ones. That should be enough time.

"Superhero? Are they fast? Actually, where is here?" Danny glanced around at the now bare security office like the Flash would show up.

The guy in green and yellow took everything not nailed down to the ground. Danny respected that, even if he kind of wanted to stop the robbery. But he's not really supposed to interfere. That would be uber rude, since it looked like the guy in the fur jacket seemed like he had planned everything precisely.

"You're in Central City, kid. Did you take a wrong turn trying to get to Keystone or something?" Green-yellow guy snorted.

"Gonna be real honest with you, I've got no idea where that is. What state are we in?" Danny followed as the pair rushed to the safe doors. He could offer to phase them through but no matter how flexible Danny's morals have become over the years, he was going to draw a line at actively helping a person commit crime.

"Kansas. Do you teleport? Are you a teleporting meta?" Snart asked, eyes intense as he both glared at Danny and pressed an ear to the safe door.

"Nah, I wish I could teleport. Getting to school would be so much faster. Kansas? Huh, I've never been."

"How lost are you, kid?" Mirror Master incredulously paused from robbing the packages that were delivered to the bank.

Danny shrugged. "Oh, I'm Danny. Who are you guys?"

"Captain Cold. That's Mirror Master."

Danny shifted as the safe clicks open. "So, uh, are you guys the villains here?"

Captain Cold shot him a weird look. "We're actively robbing a bank, kid. That should be obvious."

"Also, you're acting real calm for a kid speaking to two of Fawcett's best super-villains." Mirror Master chimed in, laser-ing off locks on deposit boxes and shoving cash and stuff into his mirror dimension.

Danny padded in after them. "Eh, you haven't shot at me- not even on sight- yet, which is more than I can say for law enforcement, so you're pretty chill in my book."

Captain Cold snorted, pointedly taking his freeze gun and breaking off a large manual lock. "I believe it's my job to be the chill one. Plus, we don't kill. The Flash would be up our... business if we did. It's not worth the trouble."

"You can say ass. I've heard worse."

"Not from me, kid."

Danny hadn't had that kind of consideration from anyone in a long time. Even if it's a bit... mother-hennish, the halfa couldn't find it in him to be annoyed. "Ah, okay. Well, you also haven't kidnapped me or tried to stop me from following you, so..."

Mirror Master shoved a giant painting into his dimension. "You haven't tried to stop us; it'd be weird trying to stop you."

"Makes sense."

"Heh. You're alright, kid. Though... who's kidnapping you?"

"My fruit loop of a godfather. It's a thing," Danny avoided the searching gaze like a pro.

"Hold this." Captain Cold said suddenly, giving Danny a massive dufflebag.

"Wait, what?"

Captain Cold began stuffing the bag with cash and once the money in the vicinity (not that much) went in, he said "Go look around. Having another person in here is a risk so you might as well make up for it."

Danny's calling it. Captain Cold was full of shit. The guy's a big softie. Danny smiled sheepishly and agreed. Danny circled the place, pointing out expensive looking stuff- "for fun" and not because they were nice to him- when he felt the tell-tale zaps of an anomaly in Clockwork's domain.

"Move!" He shouted at the two villains, both of whom dove out of the way. Instinctively, Danny threw out his gloved hands and iced the floors, instincts bristling at the incoming danger. His jaw dropped as a blur encountered the ice and went ass over tea kettle onto the floor, unable to stop its own momentum.

"Oh shit!" Danny uttered, eyes wide as the blur slammed into the opposite- reinforced- wall with a pained shout. The stopped person was wearing red, with a lighting bolt motif all over their uniforms. That implied speed. Speed implied "The Flash." Danny knew a hero when he saw one and he just iced him. Shit.

"What-" The Flash groaned. Mirror Master and Captain Cold gaped.

"OhmyancientsI'msosorrygottagobye!" Danny shouted.

"Hey, wait, kid-!" Captain Cold shouted. Danny ignored him, going invisible in a panic and sank into the ground, mortified. After thirty seconds of self-hatred, he zoomed out and away. Danny held his head in his hands as he flew back to where Amity was...

Only to stare down at the empty plots of land where his city was supposed to be. Danny shoved a hand into his chest and pulled out his phone.

[No results for Amity Park. Did you mean "Amity Arkham"?]

"What."

Any research he did after that only turned up a Jasmine Fellona, a budding neurobiologist in her field, and other people that were adjacent to the people Danny knew. But nothing, nothing from Amity Park.

"Oh, yeah, we're definitely not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy."

As the Flash stood around to keep an eye on the hand-cuffed villains, he couldn't help but ask.

"So, uh, Snart. Did you... get a kid?"

"What." Snart asked, incredibly done with this shit.

"You know. Snart junior? With the ice and everything?" Flash gestured at the un-melting ice that covered the floor leading into the safe. "I mean, I'm not thrilled you're pulling your kid into a life of crime..."

"No."

"Wait, you had a kid and didn't tell me?" Mirror Master asked, mildly offended. "That was your kid? No wonder no one shot at him!"

"He's not my kid." Snart gave Flash the stink-eye. "And don't you have a couple of baby sidekicks running around?"

"C'mon dude, you're so obviously fond of him. It's okay, you don't have to hide it." Flash avoided the topic... in a flash.

"Can someone arrest me right now so these idiots can be removed from my vicinity?" Snart snarked to the approaching officer, jerking his head to point at the beaming Flash.

"You and me both, buddy," Officer West sighed.

One trip to the zone and a stressful conversation with Clockwork later, Danny was found in his keep, smacking his ghost head into the ghost wall of his ghost keep. Danny would unleash a Wail if it didn't have the nasty habit of bringing everything around him.

Apparently, he got "Amity'd," a process which meant Amity spat him out like an over chewed dog bone and refused to take him back.

"That doesn't even make sense! I left there a bunch of times! And came back!"

"The city has decided that it was your time to leave, Danny." Clockwork spared a wane smile for the curled up boy-king.

"I have people to protect there! My entire life! My haunt!" Danny yelled, breaths that he didn't technically need coming shorter and shorter. The neon green of the Zone whirled in and out of his vision in a dizzying shudder of anxiety and incoming panic.

"It wasn't your haunt, I'm afraid. The city nurtured you as a young spirit- thus shared her haunt- and has decided that it was time for you to... leave the nest, so to speak."

That stopped Danny's panic in its tracks. "Are you telling me she NightVale-d me? Some kind of involuntary coming-of-age bs?"

If he weren't on the edge of hysterical laughter, Danny would take a moment and proudly say to Mr. Lancer that he had paid attention in class.

"...Yes."

"Fuck." Danny dropped his head down in despair. His head made a loud thunk. The bag of cash he'd accidently made away with sat innocently at his feet. Further proof that it wasn't some nightmare he'd wake up from anytime soon.

Danny slumped over the desk, exhausted. Technus had lent him a ghostly hand and hacked into government data bases to re-establish his social security number and all the other dumb bits and bobs that he needed to establish his identity because Amity was an actual ghost town. Ghost to reality, ghost to real life. Ancients, Amity even had their own data network, which he couldn't access outside of Amity itself. This meant that Danny couldn't even call anyone. Ugh.

"I gotta find a place to live," he mumbled to himself. Danny, despite knowing that he needed to do things, did not move for another ten minutes.

Then, as his phone alarm went off, buzzing on the table. Like... Clockwork... Danny sat up straight and wiped all traces of wallowing self pity off his face. The people in the library- students- gave him solemn nods of solidarity. Danny nodded back and left the library.

He wandered around Fawcett City, somewhere Clockwork had recommended he stayed. With Clockwork, recommendations tended to be life-important (plot-important?) orders. Danny liked the place, really. It gave off the weird and settled "what-the-fuck,-Box-Ghost-did-you-have-to-destroy-the-mall?" vibes Amity constantly gave off after the ghosts started coming through. He thought he even saw a talking tiger! Awesome.

"Hey, are you new here?"

Danny looked down. His reflection stared back at him.

Did he have another kid? Did someone clone him again? Ancients curse you, Vlad!

"Uh- yeah."

"Oh. Do you need help getting around? I was born and raised here all my life, so I can totally do that!"

Oh thank the Ancients, this wasn't another Dani. Just a weirdly similar looking kid.

"You know I'm a stranger, right?"

"I don't think anyone helping Nanny Mae pick up her oranges would hurt kids," the kid said archly, but with a grin so like Dani, it made Danny miss his younger sister.

"Okay, you got me there. But still."

The kid sighed. "I know how to be safe, thanks. I'm Billy!"

"Danny. Nice to meet you."

"Okay, Danny, where you off to?"

"I'm actually trying to find a place that'll be cheap to rent." He's sixteen, but Danny could totally pass as eighteen. "I'm thinking about moving to Fawcett. It's nice here, with all the ambient magic and stuff."

This got him a wide-eyed look. "Do you use magic?"

"Something like that."

"Cool."

Danny took in the considering glint in Billy's eyes and decided that it was future!Danny's problem. Present!Danny was currently occupied with trying to stay off the streets. That giant bag of cash he'd accidently absconded with would be helpful and Danny felt kind of bad... but his growling stomach had chased that away quickly.

"This way!"

Danny shrugged his wavering morality off and followed the kid, shouldering his new and stolen duffle bag. If anything happened, he could just go ghost. It wouldn't be the weirdest thing that's happened in this city, Danny made sure to check.

"Have you been by the zoo?" Billy began to rattle off his favorite details about the Fawcett city zoo as he wove around the city.

Danny didn't think he'd actually have to go ghost.

"Not yet, actually. Is it true that there's a talking tiger there?"

"Yeah! Tawky Tawny! He's my friend!"

"Awesome."

Thank you for your IWTV posts and clearing up misconceptions. Tbh I wouldn't be so annoyed if people weren't constantly determined to do as many bad faith readings as possible when it came to Louis and Armand's relationship. Like of course it was a very flawed and very complicated relationship, we know this! But it's so obvious when a fan is making a post about how it was "completely loveless and devoid of sexual intimacy" solely so their own otp could look better. So many examples that others have already pointed out, including that one take about Louis disliking the first TVD performance, so this means that he hates theater in general and prefers Lestat over Armand (excuse me, what?)

Also more than one person trying to say how loumand had more PDA and not just for Daniel in the Dubai interview. But that this meant "every affectionate gesture between them to ever happen including Paris was just for performance" and was not truly genuine compared to what was with Lestat? Um no shit, Louis and Lestat had more of their love scenes behind closed doors. But also consider the context with how things were in NOLA and Louis having to pose as another person (brother, business partner, etc) because of rumors surrounding him and his lover. How due to racial discrimination he couldn't even get into an opera house without playing Lestat's servant. Then skip forward to the 1940s when he believed he can actually be comfortable doing this openly "Paris was a formative sexual liberation", with him having those casual relationships with other men while cruising. To kissing and being affectionate with Armand in public and not give a damn who is watching or if he's being heckled for it. This isn't even trying to reduce Louis' previous relationships either or say they're less important, more that Louis' comfort with how he expressed his own sexuality and romantic gestures developed over time.

As for Dreamstat... guys he's an extension of Louis' inner thoughts (a complex mixture of emotions before Louis was ready to enter a new relationship), but he wasn't present during loumand sex scenes either... and Louis certainly wasn't having sex with Armand just for Dreamstat to watch??

Despite already knowing what's "endgame" some people still can't allow even a single moment of love, attraction and vulnerability between loumand to just exist without twisting it into something else, or making it actually about Lestat or Daniel while propping up their preferred pairing. good lord, I'm tired of this.

🥰thanks anon! i'm not as familiar with tv fandom so maybe i'm not understanding why people are so resistant to acknowledging louis's attraction to armand (even pre-claudia's murder) when they were together in canon. like in both the show and the book (and not in a future book, devil's minion stans). since when are people not allowed to enjoy different relationships at different times? i think it's silly to ignore or misrepresent whole sections of the plot just to feel like your favorite ship is the more romantic(?) or healthier (😂) ship, i guess? but yeah, recognizing any romance or attraction between louis and armand (especially from louis towards armand) makes some people angry, as though it undermines armand's abuse or any future relationship either party will have.

not much to add to what you said - the majority of fans only care about louis to the extent he cares about lestat, so they focus on dreamstat/lestat scenes in s2 and ignore the many scenes without him. then there are fans that can't let go of their s1 headcanons that conflict with new information from s2 (louis tops sometimes. it's just a fact now. please stop being weird about it.) i also hate the refusal to engage with louis's repeated statements about his changing relationship to his sexuality over time. his sexual preferences are not stuck in 1910, and i don't agree with pathologizing louis topping or having sex with men besides lestat (if you're not into it, just say that, but don't act like there's no evidence for louis enjoying a different sex life in the show).

i'm not a solo shipper and i love thinking about louis so it's not hard for me to imagine louis in multiple relationships (and in various positions 🥵), and lucky for me i get to see that on screen! cause that's what the show is about actually! louis! the titular vampire.

So... Just finished watching S4 of umbrella academy (im late as hell but I was watching it with my dad he likes watching episodes in one sitting idk) and hm. Just hm.

I'm going to make a list of the stuff I liked and then the stuff I didn't like, but these lists are going to be unbalanced as heck cause wtf was that season.

Stuff I liked

Ben and Jennifer (they were really cute together and I liked how they interacted with one another)

Jennifer's role in the season (it was an interesting storyline with how she was the opposite to the family and how she and Ben caused the end of the world Yadda Yadda)

The Timeline Subway (badass, made sense too imo)

The upgrade in the powers/getting the powers back(cool seeing them upgrade with new stuff but I'm going to go into the weird stuff of it too)

Sober Klaus (I'm just happy for him tbh)

Claire (she was such a baddie)

The Cleanse (Having a one true timeline and having these ordinary people try to save the timeline was interesting to watch)

Stuff I didn't like/Confused me/Hated

Explicit vomiting (what was the point of that it was foul)

Baby shark being played a million fucking times (it was funny the first two, annoying the rest)

Plotholes galore (how tf did Jennifer end up in the squid? Why didn't Umbrella Ben tell Klaus how he died? How tf are the kids still alive in the timeline if their parents got erased for existence?)

Fatphobic jokes towards Diego (he's literally buffer then most of the characters stfu he's cute)

Nuking Diego's character in general (he did not deserve any of that shit)

The power upgrade (Specifically why did Luther get his ape body back even though it had nothing to do with his powers and why did Lila get laser eyes it doesn't even have anything to do with her og power)

Five and Lila 🤮 (separate post because there's so much to say about this)

Lore Olympus ep. 252 critique

Before all you stans get mad I generally thought this episode was pretty okay. But maybe that’s because not a whole lot happened.

Cassandra

So going in the order of events, first up is our favorite gal Cassandra.

Gotta say, already like her loads.

I don’t have a whole lot to say about her general existence, beyond the fact that it’s stupid that Apollo is using her as a walking incognito tab. My main criticism more lies around the idea of when did Apollo even meet her? He obviously couldn’t have met her during the time skip because there were no interactions allowed between realms during that time and he was kicking it in Olympus.

We also have no indication of when he actually met her post-punishment. There’s no definitive timeline for how far we are post-time skip, but by my estimation, we can’t be more than a month past when the embargo officially lifted. Idk I can already smell the mess that is this storyline a mile away.

The SA plot line

Holy fuck. I don’t exactly know what the hell Rachel is exactly trying to achieve with the SA plot line but I can tell you that the handling of it has been piss poor.

Uhhh... this is great and all except for the fact that Persephone never thought this. There is not one shred of evidence that Persephone ever liked or actually found Apollo handsome. Not even in the very early chapters. She didn't even say that he made her feel special. She said that she liked the way Hades made her feel. Hades made her feel special by grooming her but that's a whole-ass post on its own.

Even after her assault, she continued to express at minimum a clear discomfort for him in front of others and at maximum immense hatred for him when by herself or with only him. And now suddenly Rachel wants to flip the script? Why? What purpose would that serve? Why is she suddenly backpedaling on a plotline that was established within the first 25 episodes/the second day Persephone is on Olympus? The SA plotline is the longest-running and the "big bad" that has yet to be resolved. But now it only pops up when the story needs a little conflict or an extra boost to drive it forward. Plus now she wants to portray Apollo as this misunderstood ex-love interest/boyfriend with whom the audience is supposed to sympathize? It's disgusting. @genericpuff who I really need to stop tagging in these posts I'm so sorry made an excellent essay about how Rachel is burying the SA plot line that basically takes what I've said above and greatly expands it. Go read it, they made a lot of excellent points.

Melinoe

Ah yes. The mystery deity that was really Hades’ inner child/actual child all along!

So I actually had a conversation with another LO critic about how weird I thought this "inner child -> actual canonical child" pipeline was. Now, granted, I could be reading into this way too much but when I first read this, I honestly thought it was some kind of weird/unintentional representation of parents projecting their trauma onto their children.

We've seen this little ghost buddy in past chapters and a lot of people (myself included) thought that our ghost buddy was a representation of Hades' inner child. A little Hades if you will. And it was portrayed that way. We often saw our little ghost buddy/little Hades who was extremely traumatized by Hades' past experiences. The part of Hades that just can't let go despite what he may claim about "moving on" or "being better". But if this little ghost/Hades is actually their kid Melinoe, that means they saw everything that Hades went through. All his traumas, all his struggles. Everything. And now also with Persephone and her little jaunt through the mind-scape and the shit she saw. So now we have to recontextualize all of those scenes where Hades interacts with this being and tbh the scenes kind of become very ick? This is such a strange direction to take this particular storyline. Something about it just rubs me the wrong way and I don't know if it's my above complaint or something else.

But yeah. Pretty tame in comparison to some of my past posts and posts that will come. Until the next chapter and/or my next post.

🐰👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 (the Afton Family; what were they like?)

Bill is divorced from his ex-wife (Maggie Schmidt) and he has the kids on the weekends prior to CC'S death when Mike elects to go live with him full-time.

He's an okay-to-good dad, actually. He's fun and gets his kids these lavish gifts but he's pretty terrible dealing with emotional problems they might have. Type of guy to get you the new game system but stare at you blankly when you say you feel sad. The Afton kids get more emotional validation out of him when he's in costume.

Maggie is also a decent parent. She's harder on the kids but patient and understanding. She moves a couple towns over and eventually out of state to get away from the absolute mess that is Hurricane and Freddy's after her kids like... die.

Mike didn't take the divorce very well cus he saw his family as picture-esc and he feels weird about that illusion being shattered- Maggie's better than William at actually helping him with that. He still lashes out though mostly agaisnt his little brother. He does love his family a lot though he's tricked himself into thinking he's scaring Nate to "toughen him up".

Lizzie also didn't take the divorce very well but mostly because she wants to spend more time with her dad than she's allowed to. This sorta bubbles into a childish resentment for her mother but it's nothing tooo serious (she still loves her, she still knows her mum loves her, her dad just Gets Her in a way Maggie doesn't).

Nate is a small child and he's generally just confused about everything going on around him. He was a newborn when his parents split so he doesn't really know anything else. He likes his parents cus they're nice to him and hug him when he cries but he's a little scared of bill cus he saw him climbing out of the Rabbit costume once and he HATES THAT THING !!!!! It ATE HIS DAD !!!!! He has the SCARS TO PROVE IT !!! I think he prefers Henry, actually- cus he comforts him when Mike locks him in parts and service. Speaking of.

🐻👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 (the Emily Family; what were they like)

Henry was a shit partner and a slightly less shitty dad. Him and his wife (Eryka) are also divorced but they split before Bill and Maggie did. Henry is very emotionally unavailable (on a good day) and tends to just block everything out when he's too consumed by his work- which is often. He couldn't give Eryka the type of support she needed so they amicably split and tbh Henry hardly noticed. He's trying to be better for Charlie, though. He's still distant but he does things with her and is making a genuine effort. He forgot Sammy existed when Eryka left with him, though. Just completely blocked out his other child.

Eryka is an aspiring author and her leaving Henry and taking Sammy with her is probably the best decision anyone in this franchise has ever made. Her and Sammy just completely dodge all of the shit going on until like... 2017. Obviously she comes back to Hurricane for Charlie's funeral and things between her and Henry are very very tense (him being even more shut down than normal didn't help).

Charlie was a real rough and tumble kid I think. She'd get knocked down and keep swinging till she won. Her and Mike would wrestle pretty often and she'd want to keep going long after he ran out of steam (she'd run and grab him some fruit and plasters after tho :]). She loves her dad and looks up to him a lot but she secretly prefers spending time with Bill. Cus he's funny. She'd go and visit Sammy and her mum monthly :]

Sammy is a lot quieter and more introverted. They takes their parents splitting a little harder than Charlie did cus they LIKED Freddy's and liked hanging out with Nate but... hey what are you gonna do. I honestly don't know how to start this cause I'm awkward lol but basically: my mom thinks my close(ish?) Friend is my "boyfriend"... could not be further from the truth 💀 (also sorry this is a bit long btw i like detail & that is a pain for me to deal with sometimes. She was just like "oh shit" & we havnt mentioned it since.

What makes it a bit awkward tho is I DO lowkey have a squish/qp crush on her, on & off, but I know that my attraction tends to fade & waver with time (like- Lithqueerplatonic / Queerplatonicflux I guess). So I wouldn't really want to be in like, a qpr w/ her. That & I've always kinda "worry" that my boy/masc part may make most lesbians uncomfortable being in a qpr with me and vice versa with gay men & my girl/ fem part.

Anyway I just have really intense platonic feelings when I do have them & I wish as a society we were more ok with expressing that ;> RELASHIONSHIP ANARCHY WHEN?? when will ppl be "allowed" to kiss their homies goodnight without it being perceived romantic?? HANK PYM COSTUME RATINGS

At long last, here are my thoughts on the many looks and identities of Marvel’s own Hank Pym!!! Being a fan of this guy is a real rollercoaster, but his costumes are always so great and interesting, ive wanted to talk about them for ages!!! As some of his looks kinda blend together Ive tried to stick with the bare essentials (barring ones i especially like) but you can generally assume that i rate most of the suits of a given identity the same unless i specifically state otherwise. So here we go!!!!!

Ant-Man 10/10

What can i say? You can’t make an ant themed character much cooler than this. The irresistible 60s scifi charm of his big chrome helmet, the red, black, and blue color scheme with patterns that say “i am a super scientist” but gloves that say “im attemptint to look visually interesting.” Naturally Hank forgets he’s wearing some of the coolest headgear in comics. Ant-Man has had some good looks and updates but the charm of this one is pretty undeniable.

Giant Man 8/10

I think we can all agree that Giant Man kinda sucks, but damn if he didnt look cool! I guess he kept the antennae to keep some Ant-Man functionality, but you rarely see him using it. That’s fine though, it gives him a cool and distinct silhouette. It’s strange, if this were a new look for him as Ant Man, id call it a more considerable downgrade, yet Hank becoming Giant Man is a downgrade in just about every sense of the word. And even so, i LOVE Giant Man! It’s a conundrum!

Giant Man Redux: 6/10

I think they were trying to recapture the scifi tech charm of Ant-Man with this one, and it does kinda work! I think my main issue with this one is that it doesnt stick around long enough to really win me over. There are far more minor and insignificant variations of Hank’s suits that stick around way longer than this one. And id say this suit’s pretty damn significant, he left the Avengers for the the first time wearing this shit! I wish they’d played around with it some more.

Goliath: 8/10

Goliath is extremely solid. I have to wonder if Marvel was conscious of Giant Man being a loser that they felt the need to rebrand him like this, there’s little significant changeover from his previous identity other than color scheme and name besides him being stuck at 10 ft tall for a bit. I LOVE the addition of the goggles btw, one of my earliest exposures to that design trope i love so much.

The weird thing with Goliath is that they make him look more and more like Giant Man while refusing to change his name. Like again i know the guy got his ass best plenty of times but when you add antennae and red to his costume….that’s just Giant Man! But whatever the case, i give Goliath and all of his iterations a solid thumbs up.

Yellowjacket: 10/10

The PINNACLE as far as im concerned. What if you took Ant-Man and refined his charming but clunky scifi elements into something sleek, aerodynamic, and downright badass, while still having bright colors? You get Yellowjacket! I can’t stress how much i loved this suit as a kid. Do you know how rare it is to have a primarily yellow superhero who looks cool? It’s mostly just Wolverine, and he didn’t even exist at this point! I also like how it sorta resembles Wasp’s original outfit, though you probably wouldn’t get a chance to compare given Jan’s ever shifting wardrobe. It’s really a shame how maligned the Yellowjacket identity is because id love to see this design again, but its lasting association with the worst shit ever done with Hank pretty much made sure that’ll never happen.

West Coast Avengers: -/10

It’s funny that what is arguably the height of Hank’s superhero career comes from when he’s vehemently not a superhero anymore. Thus, in terms of costumes…well this isnt a costume! But for what it is, it’s great. A nice practical super science getup. But i have trouble rating it on the same scale as the rest. Just know that I love it!

90s Hank: 5/10

I was ready to rip this thing a new one, but tbh it isnt bad. The only thing that keeps it from being truly good is the stupid pouches, but i cant outright call it bad when it’s basically a worse version of Atlas from Thunderbolts’ costume without them. It’s passable.

Giant Man???: 10/10

Yeah, I know. Confusing, isnt it? Well listen, regardless of names and costumes and what have you, this is by far my favorite variation on the original Goliath look. The red goggles just do it for me! I love primary color schemes and i prefer a touch of red to a touch of yellow, yknow?

Goliath??????: 8/10

So NOW he can be Goliath. That makes perfect sense. Yeesh. This suit is cool though i like it. It’s based on a Goliath suit Jan designed for Hank, but by then he’d had become Yellowjacket, so Hawkeye became Goliath for a while instead. It’s a nice callback, and while I don’t actually care for that Goliath look, there’s no way a redesign by George Perez at the height of his career and abilities is gonna be anything less than great.

Wasp: 7/10

Was Mighty Avengers good? I read a couple of issues and remembered enjoying it, but that was when i hated every other Avengers book do idk if that means it was actually good, yknow? Anyway while losing Jan as the Wasp and gaining Hank is about as big a net loss as i can think of, this is NOT a bad look. There are only a few gripes i feel: I get what they were going for with the design on his chest but it makes him look like he’s The Stickbug and not The Wasp. Secondly, i think the goggles are kinda lame compared to some of his other eye/headwear he’s sported throughout the years. That’s about it! Not bad for the worst Wasp in the main continuity!

i think it is incredibly important to begin navigating how we are going to cater to the experiences of women [and nonbinary individuals -- my! fault! i am so sorry, thank you**] who have felt particularly left out as told by the uproar that's been going on for these past few months apparently, and by these current conversations.

if women and/or nonbinary individuals who feel like they cannot find themselves in fics have to write them themselves, be it for a particular reader insert or for a more general one, then some kind of sub-community needs to be made to nurture and amplify that sentiment, at this time. i do not know if that is preexisting. if it does exist, it needs to be expanded upon or heavily revised.

as both a reader and a writer, if you see yourself in something, it is absolutely necessary that you ride for it so that other people can have the opportunity to see themselves in it, as well. and if you can't write certain perspectives, then embrace them. it's like completely normal to decorate your blog with things that align with who you are and the kind of desires you have, but at this time, as a community, it's really important to make room for neglected narratives.

and finally, for the love of god, please, stop being so fucking horrific to people.

OKAY. finally got a minute to sit down.

so here’s our drumroll question. what is the reasoning behind the recent OSSAS fic title? what’s the lore behind it 🎤

OOH. OKAY. This is a FUN one, and extremely weird and detailed. Under the cut we go!

One thing I've always wanted this last installment to be is a tradition breaker. OSSAS in general has a lot of repetition, whether that be in structure or symbolism (someday I need to go in and find all of those elements and make a list, tbh); I don't want to completely abandon that, of course, but I do like the idea of making the ending of the season even more unsettling by shaking things up a bit. I have no plans to sever those character threads I've been spinning, but I do want to bat them around a little bit and see what happens. For instance, the two most recent installments begin with Nya waking up and end with her nearing sleep somehow (ADA(DP) is a bit of an exception but still roughly fits); you may have noticed that Witness begins with her being put to sleep. That sort of thing.

One tiny meta thing that influenced that decision: There's an old exchange somewhere on Ninjago Twitter, I believe between Tommy Andreasen and some fan (it could have also been the Hageman Brothers; I'll need to dig that up to check, but it's DEFINITELY one of them), regarding the legality of the entire wedding. Or something along those lines. Look, it's a weird situation, so OF COURSE the question asked was a weird one. The answer was something a lot simpler: that there wasn't really a good answer to that question, because the wedding itself wasn't traditional enough for it to really matter. Still a weird answer, I think. Kind of a cop-out, but it exists - and if it exists, I shrug and see what I can do.

So: nothing about this situation fits tradition. Got it. There go my series traditions, too, or at least just enough of them to ramp up the drama.

Which brings us to the title tradition I've had running! With the exception of Small Cuts, every installment of OSSAS so far has taken their name from the first verse of Panic! at the Disco's "Kaleidoscope Eyes." Small Cuts' name comes from a second cousin of a song, "Small Cuts" by The Brobecks, a band fronted by Dallon Weekes.... who eventually joined and then left Panic. Weird musical family tree, but hey - it's a link!

The song that Witness gets her name from is not "Kaleidoscope Eyes." This is for three reasons:

I had already milked all the good KE lines for titles. KE is not even remotely a thematic fit for OSSAS when taken as a whole, and after the first verse, things take a turn that I couldn't really come back from.

That whole tradition-ditching thing I mentioned.

I was having a bit of A Moment with a different song off the OSSAS playlist.

That different song is "Visitation of the Ghost", once again by The Brobecks (and in fact off the same album as "Small Cuts"). "Visitation" has been on my mind a LOT lately, as Weekes is currently touring with his current band, I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME. A curious thing about IDKHOW is that Weekes has carried over a handful of Brobecks songs, and most of them have become concert traditions for the new band. (That's a whole other obsession, tbh. I LOVE that shit.) "Visitation" is one of them. The most recent tradition that I'm hoping to experience this fall when I (weather permitting) see him perform live involves him walking through the crowd and recruiting them to sing the gospel style backing vocals. And also sometimes he yells at them when they stop. Anyway, controlling small-crowd leader ego tripping aside (hmm, sounds like someone we know....), it's an INSANE SONG, and it's been lurking on the series playlist for a while.

Where was I? Oh, right. It was really a matter of being in the right place at the right time: I've been thinking about that song lately, and I needed a title, and it was already in the club. So: breaking tradition enough to make things interesting, but not too much. (Yes, the fact that "Visitation" is now a tradition of its own is not lost on me. It took on a new energy, but it's the same base body, truly.) The specific chunk I chose will have more relevance when the story properly kicks off in a few months.... but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

And also, how does blushing work? Like its when blood is visible under the skin, but Catra's got fur so how can her skin be seen when she blushes?

tricky answer tbh XD this is something that's kind of handwavey because of how much the answer varies by how you conceptualize catra's appearance and biology in your head, so buckle in. i feel like i talk about this like once a year and my answer is always Similar but not the Exact Same.

okay, Catra canonically has fur and blushes in the show, so for Cartoon Logic I just assume the fur on their faces (and other parts of their bodies) is finer/thinner which would allow blushes/hickies to show through some, but I'll be honest, I avoid picturing what magicat faces would look like outside of drawings because it seems like some creepy Cats (2019) shit (i think nate even said as much at some point, though he is notorious for saying total jokes that get taken too literally - and he definitely said that last part, i think on the blm stream? "you need to learn not to trust everything we say, we like to joke around," roughly from my memory).

how "detailed/realistic" i picture catra varies, but i never see fur on her face in my head, nor do i see a transition between where there is fur and is not. when i write, however, i refer to her having fluffy cheeks because like, her cheek tufts are observable in canon, but even following their existence i don't think every inch of her face has true fur on it and it probably thins out. I mostly think of it just as those cheek tufts even though i know that probably isn't "correct."

i generally try to mention things like blushing being observed on catra less than other characters because i do think they would be subtler with the fluff she is supposed to have. that said, catra can feel herself blushing and such, so from her pov it happens just as much as it would from adora's. and if we're talking about adora setting out to make a hickey or something, she can do that even if it's harder to see the product when she's done.

blushing is also weird, because i think for a lot of people you say that word and they picture cartoon shit (ive seen a post with a lot of notes indicating that, and have had that conception myself), but that isnt how people actually blush irl. that doesnt mean real blushing is not noticable still (generally in more than just the actual blood rush with the expression/mannerisms that accompany it, which would be just as observable on catra as others), but it is a lot more "flagged" and obvious in how it's portrayed in cartoons. it's kind of how, irl, people frown or show sadness with their eyebrows/eyes, but on the computer we convey it with :( A blush is generally pretty subtle, which is harder to convey in animation, especially simpler styles, so it ends up being just red cheeks in a cartoon and we all know exactly what that means.

tldr; catra is fluffy as a cartoon and she blushes, but she's probably less fluffy and it's less observable "in live action", and either way i just say eh. her fur is thin enough in those areas for it to be observable even if it is less noticable

I'd like to hear why you don't like the Oni Trilogy!

Alright, here we go!

First off, the "romance" (I wouldn't even count it as romance tbh, it was all manipulation-) between Harumi and Lloyd felt super forced and kind of out of character for Lloyd, did not like it. Sure, it made sense in a "it's all a part of my evil scheme" for Harumi, but Lloyd, while he is very quick to trust, doesn't seem like a "love at first sight" kind of person. Also, the age gap is kinda weird because Harumi was probably around Lloyd's age, but then Lloyd aged up and so it's kinda... y'know.

Second, I did not appreciate that they resurrected Garmadon. Sure, I loved and hated and sobbed over Garmadon's sacrifice, and do feel that it was unneeded, but Garmadon's story was over. Done. Finished. The end, that's it. Especially considering he sacrificed himself, it was a very dramatic and pivotal scene in Season 4, and all the more sad to see Lloyd and Garmadon's final goodbye in Season 5. It felt very demeaning to me (remember this is all my opinion) that they not only brought him back, but made him evil again.

On the topic of Garmadon, another thing that bugged me is that they removed Lloyd and Garmadon's relationship. The two things that made Garmadon an interesting villain was that he didn't actually want to be evil but was instead corrupted, but also that he loved his son. His relationship with Lloyd is what made Season 2 so interesting to me, because it was literally just Garmadon dancing around having to fight his son while also trying to take over Ninjago. So, in my opinion, Garmadon feels bland because he doesn't have that reluctant evil mindset, but also he does not care for his son. He does not drop everything, team up with his brother and the Ninja, and fight several Serpentine to save his son. Any sort of characterization or flavor that the writers have given him was sucked out.

Garmadon spent almost his whole life trying to not be evil or accepting that he could never be good. He hated being evil. It was amazing that he was "purified" (I think that's what we're calling it) and that he can live without being forced to be evil, so it felt very... out of place and inorganic to completely relapse back into the "Garmadon is evil" thing.

Also, I believe Season 9 should've ended with Mystake dragging Garmadon by the hair to his jail cell and Zane should not have utilized Cole's fear of singing that way in Season 8 (it felt insensitive and out of place for Zane's character, even if it was to pull of a plan), but that might just be me.

Third, the Oni were so weird. Weird as in out of place. Weird as in "why the hell are you here?", weird as in Season 10 didn't need to exist, in my opinion. Literally, you could watch Ninjago without Season 10, and the only out of place part would really be Garmadon's cryptic warning at the end of Season 9. Also, Cole's fakeout death was resolved way too soon.

Fourth, Season 8 and the Oni trilogy as a whole was a very weird way to wrap up Season 7. I thought I missed a special or something. I don't like how the Time Twins just... disappeared, and were never talked about again. I feel like we should've spent more time with the Ninja exploring and searching for Wu. To me, it was very disconnected and in general kinda weird.

I also didn't like how they ditched the iconic intro. Sure, it was cool to see more of Ninjago City, but what the fuck happened to "JUMP UP KICK BACK WHIP AROUND AND SPIN"??

I'll give a quick list on stuff I do like about it and things relating to it though, just to show I'm not incessantly shitting on it:

I like Harumi's character. Her motive, if you look from her point of view and ignore any extra details that you as a viewer would know, it makes a lot of sense. No, it doesn't make sense why she targets Lloyd specifically, but it makes sense why she hates the Ninja and admires Garmadon.

I like how they show Lloyd actually being affected by Harumi traumatizing him. Wish they would've done that with literally any other season before (cough cough Season 5 cough cough), but I'll take a win where I can get it.

I like that they actually had the villains win. The sort of apocalyptic vibe they had going in Season 9 was great.

The Oni masks were kinda cool

I liked Ninjago City's designs, it was interesting

I liked how we got the Main 4 being dumbasses without Lloyd, Nya, Wu, or Pixal to bail them out in Season 9

I liked the GB dynamics we got in Season 9

I love that they brought back some of the other elemental masters

Baby Wu and kid Wu were unhinged, and I demand a prequel show that's just the utter chaotic bullshittery that would be young Garmadon and Wu, with FSM making his appearances

Teen Wu is precious

In general I liked how the Ninja stepped up to sorta parent Wu as he rapidly aged up

Mystake. Enough said.

The Dragon Hunters were interesting (barring the Baron)

Pixal showing up with her own body and revealing herself as Samurai X was... unneeded but still cool. I mean unneeded as in I don't think she needed to hide it.

The Pixane scene when they were crashed in the jungle was cute

Jay panicking about proposing and the proposal as well was also cute

Kai older-brother-ing again in Season 10 in that one scene with Nya was great

I like most of the Ninja's new designs (as much as I hated Nya's original hairstyle, the ponytail feels really basic. Also, Kai needs to take off that FSM damned bandage)

Double double toil and trouble

Hi so Gloob decided that after leaking the entire season 5 finale of miraculous (which for the sake of those that don’t wish to be spoiled I will not discuss until is actually released) they needed to release some more episodes out of balance, so today we shall review episode 19 and 20 of Miraculous Ladybug season 5! Pretension and Revelation!

19: Pretension

So. Felix is still the only nice thing here, but we have to shove a live interest in the mix because it’s not like this show can have the concept of friendship!

So episode starts , marinette complains about not being public with Adrien (which ok whatever), and the show literally pokes fun at how Marinette used to stalk Adrien but then says it’s ok be it was “OuT Of LOvE” (I’m not even go comment at this point) and that they need to go confront Gabriel to clear up the misunderstanding that marinette is def not a crazy stalker (Yknow, after she broke into a private event of his an episode ago. Great.)

Gabriel disapproved and has a weird pancake monologue which is meant to be a metaphor of how Gabriel controls everything and everyone through fashion? And Marinette is like “no fashion is about giving people what their heart’s desire” or something, and then says Gabriel can’t cook for shit (which admittedly funny) as a way of saying his old-minded and stupid.

So I’m general I don’t know who to quote side with? Gabriel is not wrong that the main reason marinette loves Adrien is because he’s a famous star that she’s been stalking for years, but the show frames it in a way that’s less “yeah you stalked him” and more “yeah I just like controlling him and you’re annoying” to make marinette seem like a hero.

In general the entire conversation was really weird, and the metaphor of pancakes was weird, but I did actually like the moral debate of what fashion and style is? I’m a personal believer of fashion being a tool of self expression, and something from inside you, but then how much of what’s inside you is just originally you and what is as a result of your life and how you were raised?

My point is go watch Meryl Streep’s blue sweater monologue, it’s a lot more fun.

Anyways Felix and Kagami are healthier then the love square (shocker) the show should stop poking fun at how bad stalking is and then endorse it, the show is trying to make other parents look worse then Gabriel to redeem him and I’m mad, and thats all there really is to this episode. NEXT!

20: Revelation

Oh boy a Lila episode let’s go. SO FUCKING SOMEHOW LILA MANAGED TO LIE TO HER TWO MOMS ABOUT HAVING ANOTHER FUCKING PARENT?! I’ve already come across this information when all the leaks for season 5 were happening, but the fact absolutely fucking boggles me?! Like this show is so hellbent on making Lila a bad person (worse then an actual terrorist that has been abusing his song for years) that they just do the most unrealistic shit to ever exist just to make her “an evil liar OoOoOo”

Which speaking of before the show tries to tell you Lila was manipulative for lying about being fired in her art class, I would have done the exact fucking same in her shoes. If someone without telling you, fires you (which I believe is btw ILLEGAL) and you were in a public setting, what the hell are you supposed to do? Start crying and telling everyone how you got fired? No, you would quickly try to resolve the situation and then go demand answers! I understand Lila’s anger in Gabriel (tho the show tries to say it’s unreasonable because of Lila’s and Gabriel’s deal, but the show just thinks she’s evil so yknow)

Anyways, Marinette starts saying how awful Chloe is and being like “I’m standing for Justice” and whatnot, and Lila (because she has a deal with Chloe) is like “it’s ok marinette you’re busy with your love life, if you don’t believe in people getting second chances then maybe I should be class president” which tbh? I literally do not see as evil!

Like first of all what does the class representative even do in this show? At the time it was just an episode to show Marinette’s leadership skills, and the most they do is like pass some papers and go talk to students, so it’s not like Lila can do real damage by being a class representative for two weeks (tho I’m sure the show will pull something unrealistic as hell to claim otherwise)

Second of all, Marinette morally is awful? Like this entire episode’s message is legit fucking awful! Lila’s argument for being class rep is saying that she will promote more second chances and opportunities for students, meanwhile Marinette’s argument is “Chloe is awful bad people don’t deserve second chances, PERIOD.”

…I’m sorry bestie but I’m fucking voting for the one that wants to actually do something

And the show obvs tries to write it off like “no it’s a ploy to make Marinette’s life suck” which is something they already did season 3, but I just don’t know if I fully agree with this mindset

Of course, bad people exist and in real life they often don’t change and use the kindness extended towards them, so it’s important to stand your ground, but like the show is trying to tell us that two 14 year old girls are an irredeemable type of evil that will never change! I personally think that some people are incapable of redemption but more that some people don’t want to redeem themselves, so to speak, but it just feels like the show lacked nuance this episode.

I feel like if this episode was used to a more concrete example (say Gabriel, an abusive dad and a terrorist) to explain how sometimes people don’t change rather then use this as an opportunity to tell us how evil Lila and Chloe are, the message would have been more compelling

You can tell the show clearly used this episode as a means of commenting on “Chameleon” and episode that caused many people to hate Adrien for telling marinette to wait and not keep screaming at Lila and digging her own grave, saying he was endorsing abuse? So the show was like “yeah guys look Adrien was in the wrong and apologized, Marinette’s the best and forgives him, have love square”

Again, it’s just another Lila episode which makes marinette a martyr, Adrien a powerless princess that isn’t listened to, Lila way more evil then she actually is on paper to make marinette look good, and everyone stupid in comparison

(Also y’all stop the hate on Alya and Nino, Alya is fucking right, Marinette only ever been a dick to Lila because of Adrien and is digging her own grave with the girl)

(Also also half the time marinette is worse then them, lying and hurting others to get what she wants, she just got Adrien now so she doesn’t commit as many crimes, tho she did break into a private event for idiotic reasons, and also the show likes her so they keep justifying her)

Anyways, didn’t like the episode, Lila episodes are awful, Marinette’s morality is a bit skewed and hypocritical, Hoaxer is just red Volpina on the iPhone rings, but at least she was smart
