Tommy wrote letters.
The first was when he was five, after his mother left. He told her he missed her and begged her to come back.
At eleven, when his best friend moved to another city, he wrote letters full of stories and questions. His father found them and called it a waste of time, telling him to just get over it, and stop being soft.
In the army, he thought maybe his father would want to know how he was doing. He wrote to him, trying to bridge a chasm that felt too wide to cross.
He wrote to Abby, searching for the right words to apologize, though none ever felt good enough.
He wrote to his father again and again, letters heavy with anger and unspoken hate, the words he could never say aloud.
The letters never left his possession. They filled a drawer in his dresser, staying there like shadows, tucked away but ever-present.
One day, Buck found the drawer. When he asked about them, Tommy only said, “Later. I’ll tell you later.”
What Tommy didn’t realize was that, in the later, the letters would bear a new title: “To Evan.”

y’know for me it straight up doesn’t even occur to me to unfollow someone when they stop posting whatever it is i followed them for. unless the thing they’re posting about now is somehow actually actively upsetting to me i just accept it as a part of my life now. i’ll just scroll past it like i’m driving a car and dodging an obstacle on the road. and that part of the road is my daily commute and the thing stays on the road forever and i swerve around it every day for months instead of ever taking the initiative to get it removed. it just adds flavor i guess
