taylor swift and her parasocial relationship with joe alwyn
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as we know, joe alwyn was spotted at an event recently, wearing an “artists for ceasefire” pin. i guess that really wounded taylor’s ego that he was getting positive reactions, it CERTAINLY wounded her fans, and so she decided to perform her song “you’re losing me” live for the first time ever to remind everyone that joe is bad and taylor is America’s #1 victim, ALWAYS.
and she not only performed “you’re losing me” live for the first time, she also announced a bonus track for her upcoming album which we ALL know is going to be a bunch of diss tracks against joe.
are we surprised by this? NO, of course not, people on twitter literally predicted this, because taylor always does something related to “you’re losing me” when joe is spotted at an event ANYWHERE.
Tumblr media
CASE IN POINT:
on may 23, 2023, joe alwyn was spotted at the cannes film festival
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and the VERY next day, taylor announced an exclusive new version of her midnights CD, with the new song “you’re losing me” on it.
the song remained CD exclusive for a few months, until november, when joe alwyn was spotted at the GQ men of the year event.
Tumblr media
the very next day, taylor quickly got her team to work, putting out articles to shade him and remind everybody of how HAPPY she is with the football player.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then exactly 13 days later, taylor announced that her song “you’re losing me” would be available on ALL streaming platforms, as a “thank you” to her fans. yeah, i’m SURE that was the reason. thank you for getting me to the top, now go harass my ex now, please.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and she also had her friend/LAPDOG keleigh teller liking anti-joe tik tok posts.
if it hasn’t been clear that taylor swift is OBSESSED with her ex, it is clear as fucking day now. and we already know she’s gonna release a diss track off her new album on his birthday. she is extremely predictable with her pettiness and is doing everything she can to try and hurt joe, and incite her fans against him.
unfortunately for her, joe will continue being unbothered, while taylor’s stuck with her current boyfriend who is an egotistical drunk piece of shit with a bad temper and SKIDMARKS, who can’t even remember the lyrics she changed for him.

Her empathy:
Watched me daily disappearing For just one glimpse of his smile
I stopped trying to make him laugh, stopped trying to drill the safe
Another summer, taking cover, rolling thunder. He don't understand me Splintered back in winter, silent dinners
Grey and blue and fights and tunnels, Handcuffed to the spell I was under
For just one hour of sunshine Years of labor, locks and ceilings In the shade of how he was feeling
The more I look at the lyrics and how she talks about him, the more I despise her.
did you guys notice that the main theme she put about her relationship with joe in this album was that it felt like a cage to her because he was depressed. the song, so long london makes me feel so sorry for joe because she is resenting him for having his blue days and not snapping out of his depression faster so that she can have a perfect wedding. it's so insensitive given how joe was there for her during her darkest days and pulled her out of it, deleted her social media apps so she wouldn’t see the mean things people say about her etc etc. he was there for her when nobody else was. but she couldn’t be there for him when it was his time. she got bored and started rekindling her fling with matty when joe was dealing with his issues on his own. and she wonders why he wouldn’t marry her?
the worst thing happened after the breakup. she knows that joe deals with depression and yet she sent her fans after him to harass him on a daily basis for a whole year! she used the cheating rumours as a marketing scheme to release an album about matty. she let her fans harass any woman that worked with joe. how can a person be so vile?

Cianna, is it so bad that I love Taylor's music? Can we stop hating people for what they love, what (for some people atleast) literally gives them the strength to live? Yes she has been celebrated way too much, but don't you think there's a reason behind it?
Have you heard of something called a personal opinion. Why do you need some random girl’s validation on Tumblr. Why not just enjoy her music despite opposing takes

I’m sorry I genuinely cannotttttt understand how some ppl bash joe even in a joking manner. Like the poor guy did nothing wrong (that we know of) but so many ppl are making such snide remarks by comparing him to Travis which is not only condescending but actually kind of mean! HELLO did we listen to the same reputation album??? You can’t praise Travis for letting Taylor bejeweled and then rip joe to shreds in the same breath when joe was the one there for her in a clearly difficult and trying time in her life

So here's my opinion on the whole Taylor/Brittany friendship & Taylor's politics in general:
I'm so sick of people begging her to take a side in this election. She's a singer songwriter she's not a politician she's not an activist it's her choice whether she wants to endorse a politician or speak up on political issues.
She doesn't owe ANYONE not even us Swifties a goddamn thing be grateful that she speaks up at all whether it's feminist issues, LGBT rights, mental health advocacy, issues regarding the music industry & the most important one (and better than any endorsement of a particular candidate) MAKING SURE PEOPLE ARE REGISTERED TO VOTE AND ARE EXERCISING THAT RIGHT!!! I rather her do that than choosing a side to support
I get that shes the biggest celebrity on the planet and having her voice does hold a lot of sway but the point is people need to shut the fuck up about her political silence It's none of our business what her views are or who she supports I mean be grateful that she speaks up at all
and in regards to her friendship with Brittany (or anyone else for that matter I remember when everyone freaked out about her going out with Matty Healy or we can go wayyy back to when she was friends with Lena Dunham and everyone kicked up a stink about that oh yeah I'm going there) we DON'T get to dictate who she associates herself with or who she's friends with its her life shes a grown woman in her 30s that is doing what she wants on her own terms she can make her own decisions shes a human being that makes mistakes all we are at the end of the day are fans of her music and her music has the added bonus of being relatable to our lives but we are NOT her best friends, we are NOT close to her its NOT our place to make any personal decisions in her life we can be critical yes but we don't have the right to judge and dictate what she does in her life.
So Brittany is a Republican so what?? That doesn't make her a bad person just because she has different political beliefs you can be friends and disagree that's called being an adult. Some fans need to grow up and learn to be respectful and grateful and this may sound harsh but some need to get offline for a bit and touch some grass if I'm being perfectly honest stop being such purists and perfectionists and let go of that parasocial BS you guys already got called out on "But Daddy I Love Him" and it seemed like it was well deserved if you ask me. They are friends learn to deal with it
Rant over....fuck!!!

Tumblr media
This Is How You Lose the Time War, Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone [started 04/04, finished 04/09] *drags my hands down my face until the end of time* I want to meet you in every place I ever loved. I want to meet you in every place I ever loved. I want to meet you in every place I ever loved. I want to meet you in every place I ever loved. I want to meet you in every place I ever loved. I WANT TO MEET YOU!!!! IN EVERY PLACE I EVER LOVED!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4.75⭐️ in storygraph. — Hamnet, Maggie O’Farrell [started 04/12, in prog] I am about 100 pages in and still not sure if I want to keep going or DNF it. idk what isn’t sticking because the writing is beautiful and the pacing is great. And I do care about the characters, I really do. I love the way the author borrows from future grief, it’s what I am enjoying most about this read so far. Maybe I’ll give it 50 more pages and see if it finally sticks.
Tumblr media
23.5 Degrees, GMMTV [started: 03/08, ongoing] As mentioned, I am caught up on eps 3-8. I’ll likely not be able to watch it live in may but I will be keeping up with the series til the end. It’s so lighthearted and charming! Not sure how they managed this, but I am constantly surprised by the character group dynamics. It’s def due to the great chemistry everyone has with literally everyone. I need NEED to discuss the score of this show because it’s IMMACULATE. The celestial themes, from the props all the way down to the music, is so rich. I’m so excited to see how this story unravels. — Devil’s Plan [started: 04/23, ongoing] This is a bestie pick, a show my best friend chose to have us watch on our facetime calls. We are 1.5 eps in and it’s a grower. The first game is hella complex and we’re slowly picking up on what’s happening. The people on this show are incredibly intelligent, so I feel like I have to work extra hard to keep up. It does feel rewarding, I’m hooked.
Tumblr media
Oppenheimer, Peacock [watched on 04/05] I am a self-proclaimed Nolan girlie, I’ll admit it. I do enjoy his work and the many ways he translates time into film. When I wrote this, it had been a few days since I watched it and I still think abt the little moments that blew me away. Moments like the accentuated dust particles, how the coloring of the movie can be an unreliable narrator, and the utilization of a crowded hall stomping their feet to create tension. The last eight minutes still haunts me. I find more value in the technical side of film, but I will give credit when credit is due: every award Cillian Murphy got this season was so well earned. He carried all three hours of that film with such powerful quietude. And lastly, my heart now belongs to Jennifer Lame. Upon seeing her accept the award for Best Film Editing for Oppenheimer, I have come to learn that she also edited Tenet. HER MIND!!! She has such a bright future ahead of her, to be up there with the minds of Thelma Schoonmaker and Anne V Coates. — Yellow Door: ’90s Lo-Fi Film Club [watched on 04/14] This film needs to be studied in film school. It’s incredibly meta in some ways, having renown directors be the subjects, talking about their passion for film. The production being so stylized and the editing feels very reminiscent of Our Beloved Summer, with the way the found footage and the aspect ratios are intertwined with current day quality shots. This film will hit everyone right in the millennial. A true surprise for me is discovering that Bong Joon Ho and I are more alike that I had originally thought. The way he speaks in casual conversation and his story of setting strict rules for their film collection had me hollering because SAME. The most jessi thing he recounted was how all the VHS tapes were labelled. Yellow Door is somehow the opposite of the "doesn’t take itself too seriously" mentality; it’s actually so great that they made the film like that. By fully immersing us with gorgeous cinematography, cheeky editing sequences, and lush music to tug at your heartstrings, it bewitches you into loving film as much as they did. And still do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé [relisten] I’ve given this several good cycles to confirm my first impressions: it’s def one of her most cohesive albums to date and still stands as a spectacular album. This passion project of hers takes such great care and attention to the voices she amplifies. I can feel the hunger, the innate need for her to make this album. If you haven’t heard how this album came to be, I insist you take the time to educate yourselves. It makes the listening experience so much more empowering. Good for her… GOOD. FOR. HER!! Current favs: Ameriican Requiem, 16 Carriages, Bodyguard, Jolene, Spaghettii, Ya Ya, Desert Eagle, II Hands II Heaven, and Sweet/Honey/Buckin’. — Older, Lizzy McAlpine [first time listening] Coming off the heels of my Five Seconds Flat hyperfixation last year, I haphazardly went into Older hoping its a natural progression in production value. I was shocked that it turned out to be a completely different sound. I soon learned that she actually didn’t really like how Five Seconds Flat was produced because it didn’t feel true to her as an artist. Tbh I was feeling a little lost after the first listen but after digesting this new info, I went back into it and appreciated it a lot more. In fact, the third listen was when I realized that it gave off the same energy as Laufey. I’m excited to listen to it again soon. — Stick Season: Forever, Noah Kahan [first time listening] Having stumbled on all the collabs on Alexa earlier this year, Forever was the only new song for me from his latest release. I’m OBSESSED with this song!!!! The way his voice carries the entire weight of every hurt inside me and just takes it away. Something healed in me. I play it in the car every time I leave the house. I cry in the car every time I leave the house. — The Tortured Poets Department, Taylor Swift [first time listening, standard vinyl ed.] I am going to get this out of the way and say that this album is great. Just great. I understand more than ever why she felt the need to make this album. Having only listened to the standard version a couple times and the anthology twice through, I sit here in this kind of… discomfort. And I’m kind of okay with that feeling. But… it pains me that I can’t share this album with some people in my life and it’s largely due to how she depicts her struggles with people with mental illness/addiction. It’s one, if not the biggest, strike I have against this album and by extension, her. Songs cycling in my head: Down Bad, So Long London, Guilty as Sin?, Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?, loml, imgonnagetyouback, Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus, How Did It End?, I Look in People’s Windows, The Prophecy, Peter, and The Manuscript.
Tumblr media
EXPO Chicago [attended 04/13] Yes, I am doxxing myself a bit if you didn’t already know. During college, I used to attend EXPO yearly and occasionally went back long after I finished school. I haven’t attended in a long time, so I made it my goal to attend this year. And I had a blast! My mother tagged along and she’s not one to attend shows like this or art museums in general. It was a beautiful day trip to the city and it was nice to have her company. She mostly trailed behind and took pics of me as I floated around the exhibition hall. I have 50+ artists I tracked on my phone to actively research in my spare time. I sat in on one of the panel talks (ON COLOR), discussing color theory in today’s bipoc landscape. I took so much away from that conversation, it was very charged. I'm kinda obsessed with Alteronce Gumby, I need to do an artist deepdive on his work. — Coachella [watched from 04/12 to 04/14] I work for a big tech company and one of the biggest events to be on standby for is Coachella. I had to be on call for Friday and was backup support for Sunday lineups. Thus, Saturday was the only day I could sit back and relax while watching. My first time lineups included: Hatsune Miku, Peso Pluma, Late Night Drive Home, Jon Batiste, Ateez, le Sserafim, Purple Disco Machine, Bleachers, No Doubt, 88rising Futures, and Latin Mafia. Of all of the performances, I want to take a full deep dive into Ateez and Peso Pluma’s discography in the near future.

Benjen gave Jon a careful, measuring look. “You don’t miss much, do you, Jon? We could use a man like you on the Wall.”
Jon swelled with pride. “Robb is a stronger lance than I am, but I’m the better sword, and Hullen says I sit a horse as well as anyone in the castle.”
“Notable achievements.”
“Take me with you when you go back to the Wall,” Jon said in a sudden rush. “Father will give me leave to go if you ask him, I know he will.”
Uncle Benjen studied his face carefully. “The Wall is a hard place for a boy, Jon.”
“I am almost a man grown,” Jon protested. “I will turn fifteen on my next name day, and Maester Luwin says bastards grow up faster than other children.”
“That’s true enough,” Benjen said with a downward twist of his mouth. He took Jon’s cup from the table, filled it fresh from a nearby pitcher, and drank down a long swallow.
“Daeron Targaryen was only fourteen when he conquered Dorne,” Jon said. The Young Dragon was one of his heroes.
“A conquest that lasted a summer,” his uncle pointed out. “Your Boy King lost ten thousand men taking the place, and another fifty trying to hold it. Someone should have told him that war isn’t a game.” He took another sip of wine. “Also,” he said, wiping his mouth, “Daeron Targaryen was only eighteen when he died. Or have you forgotten that part?”
“I forget nothing,” Jon boasted. The wine was making him bold. He tried to sit very straight, to make himself seem taller. “I want to serve in the Night’s Watch, Uncle.”
In fandom, we often talk about Jon’s antics in his first AGOT chapter - e.g., boasting about being the better swordsman than Robb, his admiration of Daeron I, his insistence that he is a man and not a boy - as evidence of his immaturity. And there’s nothing wrong with that interpretation at all - I for one think that it’s very valid - but I rarely ever see this exchange with Benjen put in its full context; more specificallyy, the full context of what’s happening this entire chapter (and honestly what’s being going on in Jon’s life up to that point).
Because there’s something so…depressing and tragic about a fourteen year old boy desperately trying to grow up faster than is necessary because once he is a man, then there must be a place for him in this world. Because this exchange with Benjen is not happening in a vacuum. It arises out of the situation where the delineation between Jon’s social status and that of his siblings has been made ever more clear: his siblings get to sit at the high table with the visiting royal family whereas Jon has to sit with the squires far away from familiar company. But more importantly, he is a Snow and his siblings are Starks. They have a place of belonging (afforded to them by their Stark name) whereas he does’t (because he’s a bastard).
So Jon has to nurse his wounds with the belief that despite his bastardy, there has to be something he can do to belong. And what can he do, except grow up and be a man? At…fourteen years old?
So even though Robb can sit among royalty, Jon can still hold a sword just as well (in fact better) and ride a horse. He can be great too, not because of his name but because of his ability; but I do have to quibble with Benson’s (seemingly) sarcastic response to Jon’s answers here. Are you even bothering to actually listen to what Jon is saying, Uncle Ben?
And I have to admit that it makes me quite angry that the notion of bastards growing up faster than trueborns is not at all challenged among the characters. Do bastards actually grow up faster, or are they forced to fend for themselves faster than trueborns naturally would, just like Jon is in this chapter? It certainly doesn’t help that Benjen agrees with he statement, despite literally contradicting it just some few minutes earlier (by saying that Jon is just a boy and thus too young to make any life decisions for himself - like joining the Watch).
And as I was pondering on this, I realized that Jon really has been getting contradictory “advice” all his life: he’s a bastard so he has to grow up faster and cut his childhood short so he can make use of himself, but he’s actually a boy so his abilities and desires to advance are only a boy’s delusions, but then he has to join the watch and be a man and do a man’s job (and make a man’s sacrifices as Luwin would put it 🙄), but then he’s still a boy at the end of it all.
Given all this emotional and mental whiplash, Jon is actually quite well adjusted. I couldn’t imagine having to be pulled into 1000 different directions because at the heart of it the question is: is he a man or is he a boy? And what can he do, boy or man that he is, because he’s still a bastard?
I think this chapter shows that no one really bothered to sit Jon down and tell him that it’s okay to be a child, and that he doesn’t have to age far beyond his years because there’ll be someone to look out for him.
Worse yet, this chapter shows a young boy desperate to find a place for himself in the world, because no one else bothered to do so.

just a quick reminder - absolutely NO joe alwyn slander/hate is welcome or allowed on my blog. it's frankly exhausting seeing how much swifties villianize him simply because of his break up of taylor. you don't even know him. neither do i, which is why i'm not going to pretend like i do. if you don't like what i said, that's respectfully not my problem. just leave the poor man alone, where's your human empathy god.

another thing about taylor swift is she is absolutely terrified of the things she says and does being misconstrued and used as weapons. which has been done to her and using her voice so so many times. like all around. this is not a ridiculous fear for her to have. no matter how articulate she is that will happen. however, she has a massive platform unlike nearly anyone on the planet which is why that potential harm exists, and she needs to not be paralysed with fear of being capable of standing up for what she believes when the stakes are high. like being against trump was terrifying to her and did in fact cost her a lot but that's. one of the most mainstream things she could have done. she needs to not be so scared of what happens when she speaks up that she just. doesn't.

Is it wrong to be a Taylor Swift hater?
Like... is it low-key leftover internalized misogyny?
Or does her music just suck?
#idk i could go on but why bother#ive been thinking about this a lot lately#like i really used to be EXTREMELY misogynistic growing up and i started hating tswift from the beginning and never changed my mind#but i cant tell if all my reason for not liking her are actually justified or if its just confirmation bias#and the first name she gave was taylor swift. and i couldnt help but laugh out loud. (over text#but i genuinely dont find her music interesting#i did like that blank space song the first time i heard it#but after listening to the words i realized i didnt really connect with it and didnt like it as much#but its got a really fun melody#idk its also kind of like that post thats like 'were you an OG justin bieber hater at age 13 just because?'#like is part of my disdain for her just stemming from my need to dislike popular things in general cause im a pretentious little indie lover#who knows idk#maybe i shouldnt hate taylor swift#hating taylor swift isnt a personality trait#but also i cant stop thinking about this one girl i matched with on tinder who said she was going into hearing medical sciences#because of the profound effect that music has had on her in her life#and i already knew exactly how she would answer this question just from looking at her but i asked her#what artists she enjoyed that had such a profound effect on her#and the first name she gave was taylor swift and i couldnt help but laugh out loud#(over text tho she did not hear me thankfully)#idk maybe i have nothing againt the woman as a person (i dont fucking know her so i cant) but im just annoyed by the concept of her#she has this like false success story of being a small town nobody who made it big or something#but that isnt even true she had a rich father who was able to move her across the country#and use his wealth and connections to jumpstart her career#i DO think it is impressive that she writes all of her own songs in an age where the mainstream music industry does not do that#but there are a million and one indie artists writing their own songs that i appreciate more#because theyre writing about things i actually care about#not to mention the way people believe with theyre whole heart that she is queer like come on yall...

Everyone needs to calm down because like it’s fine to want to support your favourite artist when you think they might be sad but it is NOT okay to project the asinine assumptions that “love isn’t real” or “you won’t believe in love anymore” like a stranger’s personal life has ANY indication on what your own life will be like.
That’s some INSANE guilt y’all are trying to project onto someone you ultimately don’t know and who deserves just as much privacy as anyone else.
Let her have fun performing for the rest of the tour because she clearly is doing so already. Stop psychoanalyzing everything. She’s literally made a point over the years that not everything is about breakups and relationships.
Anyway have fun on tour y’all, and consider and you should let her have fun on tour, too.

Taylor Swift albums but I've been taking a lot of road trips recently and my imagination likes to make storylines out of albums so I thought I'd explain some of them:
folklore: two stranded friends oddly reconnect again when a guy that didn't know what he wanted breaks up with one over the summer, getting them into a 'high school love triangle'. Some get married, some others don't, some get divorced, some dedicate their lives to help, and some die. Fate brings them all to separate ways, eventually getting forgiveness, love, and closure, and eventually reunites the two of them in the same saltbox house. 50s-60s setting, some sapphic undertones, and death.
evermore: a love triangle between two stranded high school friends, one moved on, one stood still, and the former's fiance, who's well aware their relationship is going nowhere. No one gets married, she would've made a lovely bride thought, and there's an unsolved murder case in between the drama. Eventually, they all learn to let go, some run away, like you'd run from the law, and others just move on with their lives. 70s-80s small town "where the crawdads sing-style" setting, sapphic undertones are actually very much evident lol, and death obviously.
speak now: once upon a time in the 1500s off in a foreign land, a young prince made friends with a forest witch, eventually falling in love. There's dragons, magic, love, and a tragic ending full of hope ahead. "A Canterlot Wedding" vibes, medieval-ish setting, sapphic side story of course there is one I AM going to make everything gay because it's my headcanon/fanfiction and I can do whatever I want, someone dies holding their head like a hero on a history book page
red: a recent middle-class divorcee unknowingly makes friends with with her ex-husband's mistress. A tale of youth, growing up, letting go, and forgiving. They get separated at the end because not every story has a happy ending, you should know that by now. Themes of grief and anxiety come into the story. Late 2000s setting I guess I never really thought about the timeline on this one, a BIG sapphic storyline, I already said grief so I also want to mention there's a lot of bright lights scenery and an ambiguous long-distance ending
