Wanna know what I love most about Mickey 17? It's completely unsubtle in its presentation and in a time where media literacy is in the gutter and literal fascism is coming back in, we need more of that. We need obvious class commentary, we need obvious pastiches of authoritarian demogogues, we need people outright saying to said pastiche that they're an idiot, we need said pastiche to get blown up and his entire movement collapse because subtlety no longer works. We need obvious, blatant revolutionary works in order for people to recall what all the subtle stuff was saying.

please go watch Mickey 17
bong joon ho really said "here's a story about how capitalism is designed to exploit the weak however it can. we must break the machine. those at the top cannot be reasoned with and have to be stopped by force. i know you feel expendable. they don't care about you and will beat you into submission at a moment's notice. you're not expendable. our only way out is through compassion. im killing donald trump with a bomb. im showing you that someone will always love you. oh and here's robert pattinson having sex with himself as a treat."

I just had more thoughts about Mickey 18!!!
I feel like this Mickey was different in the way he was able to process grief, guilt, and self worth, and that he was able to see he was worthy of being treated as a human rather than a passive object.
Mickey we obviously know felt immense guilt for his mother’s death, even if he was told it wasn’t his fault.
I feel it’s also possible he felt partially responsible for the failure of the macaron business and that he felt in part like he failed Timo.
I think 18 was able to process this grief (pertaining to his mother’s death) and guilt (pertaining both to Timo and his mom) in a way the others hadn’t, and it both gave him peace and enraged him. It made him realize that he did have worth, that he did deserve fair treatment even if he signed up as an expendable.
I feel this is why he’s so passionate, why he’s so murderous. He’s enraged with Timo for screwing him over back on Earth, for being an asshole on Nifilheim, etc. which is why he attempted to kill him.
That realization of self worth led to an intense rage at the systemic dehumanization he faced. This is why he raged against 17 but in the same breath apologized to him, realizing he’s both metaphorically and literally angry at his past self for just who he is. 17 is fundamentally different in that moment from him.
But at the end of the movie, we see 17 growing in a new direction. He asks himself what 18 would’ve done. He tells himself he needs to stop feeling guilt, which 18 told him to stop feeling about their mother. He said he deserved to be happy, no doubt 18’s last thoughts about 17 and Nasha. And that’s just beautiful.
That difference in 18 is his ability to break down and process differently than the other Mickey’s, and that led to rapid growth in a new direction which is why he seemed so aberrational to the others.
Thanks for coming to my yap talk it probably will happen again

Thoughts while watching Mickey 17 (mild spoilers):
Something about the flashback approach to introducing Mickey’s character was so masterful and so smooth idk why it got me in such a chokehold.
Timu’s asshole-ry and Mickey 17’s repressed rage against every injustice compounded in that moment are the barebones of steel and fire that created Mickey 18 that’s why we needn’t a flashback of him coming out of the printer.
Nasha’s objectification towards both Mickeys while high had me almost switch sides to Camp Kai, before learning the lesson not to judge someone while their high. Meanwhile, Kai said all that while sober.
I will never ever doubt Nasha’s dedication and love for Mickey ever again. It brought me to tears.
Mickey 18 has a definite answer to the “would you fuck your clone?” question 🙋♂️
Mickey 17 feels so painful to witness, I wonder why. (rhetorical)
Should embody Mickey 18 in my everyday life.
Capitalism is the rabbit hole that leads to cult fascism and dehumanization that starts at one before expanding to an entire population i.e., colonization
The Natives are sapient beings and deserves better than to be labeled Creepers oi 😭
Speaking of, I didn’t like that we went easy on the gun squad that killed poor alien baby, Loko. With one most assuredly doing it in cold-blooded revenge.
The discomfort was a constant for me witnessing the irreverence and dehumanization of Mickey under the label ‘Expandable’ because the reasoning behind every act “it’s your job, you signed up for this. You know what you’re doing. You can bear it, right?” Feels so real and relatable it felt like nails on a chalkboard in my insides AAAAAAAAHHHHHH
Warning, American Politics mention—
Everyone should win every award for making this masterpiece, but special mention to Mark Ruffalo for embodying both Elon Musk and Tump in a singular being of sheer incompetence and assholery
The Church-Company is MAGA
They definitely thought Kamala was gonna win, didn’t they?

Putting this here because this person is so right and there’s always more reasons to love Mickey and Nasha.
Also, the fact that this person name drops 2022 batcat and fiyeraba…yes. Yes.

Yeah, I definitely would have felt the same way about her, Mickey.
But it wasn't like I was slacking, though. I was super busy every day taking care of Nasha. She's an all-in-one elite agent.
