Oughhhh THIS THIS THIS THIS!!! It was always used to mock and belittle him, Timo was definitely being a sarcastic piece of shit but Nasha never asked, she both knew and didn’t need to know, and it’s just so perfect
everyone has been saying nasha was the only person to not ask mickey what it was like to die, but no one is making the connection that she didn’t have to ask bc she already knew. on presumably 3 or 4 occasions, nasha held him as he died an agonizing, horrid death. she was the only person who even thought to give him comfort in those moments. she’d never ask him how it felt, she knows.

I just had more thoughts about Mickey 18!!!
I feel like this Mickey was different in the way he was able to process grief, guilt, and self worth, and that he was able to see he was worthy of being treated as a human rather than a passive object.
Mickey we obviously know felt immense guilt for his mother’s death, even if he was told it wasn’t his fault.
I feel it’s also possible he felt partially responsible for the failure of the macaron business and that he felt in part like he failed Timo.
I think 18 was able to process this grief (pertaining to his mother’s death) and guilt (pertaining both to Timo and his mom) in a way the others hadn’t, and it both gave him peace and enraged him. It made him realize that he did have worth, that he did deserve fair treatment even if he signed up as an expendable.
I feel this is why he’s so passionate, why he’s so murderous. He’s enraged with Timo for screwing him over back on Earth, for being an asshole on Nifilheim, etc. which is why he attempted to kill him.
That realization of self worth led to an intense rage at the systemic dehumanization he faced. This is why he raged against 17 but in the same breath apologized to him, realizing he’s both metaphorically and literally angry at his past self for just who he is. 17 is fundamentally different in that moment from him.
But at the end of the movie, we see 17 growing in a new direction. He asks himself what 18 would’ve done. He tells himself he needs to stop feeling guilt, which 18 told him to stop feeling about their mother. He said he deserved to be happy, no doubt 18’s last thoughts about 17 and Nasha. And that’s just beautiful.
That difference in 18 is his ability to break down and process differently than the other Mickey’s, and that led to rapid growth in a new direction which is why he seemed so aberrational to the others.
Thanks for coming to my yap talk it probably will happen again

I love complex black female characters! I loved her from start to finish. But of course people are already calling her controlling and selfish for wanting both mickey’s despite both 17 & 18 are one soul in 2 different bodies. I think people don’t understand how in every universe/body she is loved by Mickey and in every universe/body/death, she loves Mickey.
nasha barridge is the character of all time. she's a firefighter and a security guard and a martial artist. she loves her pathetic ass boyfriend more than anyone. dating two clones at once isn't a dealbreaker for her. she can snap a fascist's neck with her legs while holding onto a rope with her teeth. she breaks down giggling over doodles of stick figures having sex. she starts a riot in the cafeteria to defend her boyfriend from bullies. she's stayed with her boyfriend while he dies more than once. she's compassionate and wise and supportive and also jealous and hotheaded and messy. and she's in space!

they would rather ship and write mickey17 with mickey 18 than write about black women :( i thought fandom spaces would be better now but yer olde typical racism strikes again
I KNOW! its absolutely frustrating. As a young black woman myself, seeing media where we are not stepping stones for white counterparts or disposable love interest for the usually white love interest/protagonist is so important. i really thought we would be past this too, since tumblr is so progressive but it breaks my heart when stuff like this happens.

i was so scared nasha was gonna be a victim of the black expendable/ disposable gf/bf trope but she was treasured, admired and loved through and through!
