Hairy Tangle from Tangle Creations

Portability 4/10: it’s too big for a pocket and the hairs may collect lint if tossed in a bag.

Noise 8/10: very quiet, the hairs make a soft rustling sound.

Personal score 10/10: I love this thing. The texture is great, the movement is great, would recommend.

(ID: three photos that show two tangle jr.s curled up. One tangle is purple and the other is blue. In one of the photos both tangles are in an in between state in their color change. One tangle is changing color from purple to blue; the other is changing from blue to purple. The other two photos shot the same two tangles before and after they completely change color with the before photo being a darker blue and purple and the after being a lighter blue and purple. The tangles are resting on various surfaces or are being held in a hand.)

So Tangle makes color changing tangles now.

The two that I have are the Cobalt and Admiral colors. Cobalt changes from dark blue to a pinkish purple and Admiral changes from a royal purple to a bright blue. I tried to capture the colors as best I could in my photos but they are hard to photograph together because handling them to much can make them the same sort of indigo color due to one being purple to blue and the other being blue to purple.

They change color with heat but they change color slowly. This can lead to a more gradient effect with the color change rather than clearly defined areas of color. If you get one and think it’s not working because you can’t get a noticeable color change in a few seconds, hold it for a few minutes and you’ll probably see a more noticeable difference. Also the rubbing and breathing on tricks that work on other heat sensitive color change items don’t work so well on these.

The prices free well connected (I’ve had some tangles feel loose and these feel sturdier) and they move really smoothly.

There are other colors with reds and oranges but I don’t have those so I won’t comment on them.

ranking my tangles

"Textured" - The joints are easy to move but don't feel too loose. I was expecting more variation in textures, the photo on the website was not accurate, but the textures I got are okay. One texture is these smooth rounded ridges that spiral around the piece. The other texture is pointed ridges with some round bumps between them. Touching the textured pieces is nice, and it's an extra way to interact with the toy other than moving the joints around. The glitter in the translucent pieces is nice to look at.

"Masterpiece Porcelain" - The joins feel a little more solid, but it's still easy to move. The visual design is elegant. Some pieces are more abstract marbling, and some pieces have figures like people or trees. In some places, it feels a little less smooth than the usual smooth plastic, but it's not rough at all, just gives it almost a more stone-like feel, which I enjoy more than just smooth plastic.

"Crush Rainbow" - The joints are looser but still move smoothly. The colors are pretty and there is glitter inside, but the glitter is smaller and more abundant, which is less interesting to me. The plastic is uniformly smooth.

"Relax" - I forgot about this one until after I took the first photo, because I didn't like it. The joints wobble a lot, because they don't hold the pieces close enough together. I had to remove a piece because it was too loose and kept disconnecting. Each piece is covered in rubber that can be squished a little. All of them are bumpy except the one that had the brand name printed on it, but the ink rubbed off right away. The rubber feels dusty and dry.

Tip: These things are advertised as being connectable, like you can combine tangles to make bigger ones. However, when I try to connect pieces from different tangles, the joints are different enough to make them too loose or too tight. Sometimes they straight-up don't fit together. So don't count on being able to do that.
