since i looooove sickfics and things of that nature (pls send me some headcanons my ask box is bone dry 😔) i was thinking
(this is kind of based off a true story-not to me but to my dad) so i feel like darry would end up developing a hernia at some point, especially post book. Usually theyre caused by lifting heavy things or over exerting yourself which…darry is practically KNOWN FOR but anyway. i feel like he’d have to work just as hard to get the surgery to get it fixed (WAIT MAYBE THAT’S WHEN PONY PICKS UP JOBS WAITING TABLES AND WORKING AT THE LIBRARY-anyway that’s a side head anon of mine) but Pony and Soda start working a lot more as well so they can help Darry pay for the surgery and it takes a few months or so but they’re able to scrape the money together.
Only problem is Darry can’t lift anything heavy for two weeks. And he ends up being an awful awful patient because he HATES not being able to help out in any way-Pony and Soda literally won’t let him leave his bed (Soda will threaten to not talk to him and Pony does too and Darry knows they’ll hold through because they always use that threat and one time he left to go to work when he was sick and Pony got home from school to see Darry wasn’t there and told Soda and neither one of them spoke to him for a whole week) so he’s just stuck in bed with a newspaper and a book.
Also bonus but Soda drives Darry home post surgery and he’s absolutely fucked up from the anesthesia he was under and he starts crying and telling Soda how much he loves him and Pony and Soda nearly started crying lmfao but anyway
Idk just a headcanon of mine

For awhile, Heroes and civilians alike (Villains didn’t particularly care since as he didn’t get in their way) thought the villain ‘Risk’ had ‘reflection’, the ability to, you guessed it, reflect attacks after they’d hit.
Though it was similar, it wasn’t right. They figured that out, unfortunately, catching inconsistencies with every new fight—if he was hit by, say, a punch (which were surprisingly common in a super-powered world), he would stumble back normally. If he were hit by a fire blast, often belonging to the hero Ignite, he would be burned and turn-tail.
But when Eight shot blue energy at him through his signature staff? It would turn-tail, changing direction to hit it’s user (Risk seemed to have it out for Eight, for whatever reason—he’s almost never been hit by one of the man’s attacks, taking extra care to dodge and throw back).
When a sound wave from Dream, the no.1 villain who saw him as a nuisance (which he took great pride in), didn’t move fast enough, it twisted without a pause, often hitting the man back. This was a slightly better outcome, for the heroes—if Dream had a ‘rival’, which is what the media called it for simplicity, he’d be occupied, giving the heroes more time to prepare.
But even then, their efforts weren’t enough. Even distracted, Dream worked quickly, and with Risk in the mix, it was getting harder and harder to hold their ground.
Dream, you see, was objectively superior to most all heroes power-wise. He was one of the rare few to be born with three powers—Weaponised sound, wingless-flight, and enhanced speed. He could move swiftly and without care for gravity, allowing him to dodge with ease: sound-waves were forceful and you never knew where they’d come from (the chatter of civilians, the sound of attacks colliding, your own voice. Silence was highly recommended), making for strong attacks.
He could only be defeated by The Blade, the no.1 hero, who had superhuman strength, reflexes, and stamina. But even then, if Dream left the ground, it was over. The strength let him jump higher, yes, but he couldn’t stay higher.
So in short, Dream was powerful. And fast. And above every hero even if they loathed to admit it.
So with another villain on the streets who could very possibly rival and weaponise that power? They’d be screwed. Absolutely screwed.
So patrols went up. They needed to catch one—most likely Risk—before the two teamed up (though that didn’t seem likely, it was possible). Heroes patrolled more often, working to the point of exhaustion. Dream seemed to be playing it safe and, despite his cockiness, laying low.
Risk was doing the same, somewhat. He showed up every so often, narrowly evading capture and leaving damage in his wake, but otherwise wasn’t sighted.
And, thanks to the fatigue and need for more assets, nobody seemed to notice when two people—both blonde with opposite colour schemes, coincidentally listed as powerless—were hired at hero-tower. And worse, nobody noticed the signature lime of a villain or the vibrant red of a reflector creeping into the supposed haven.
And when they do?
Well, it’ll be far too late by then. Maybe it already is: they’re armed with information and files, a begrudging alliance, and the realisation they’re a dynamic duo when they tolerate the other.
So, safe to say, hero-society, or at least the tower, is screwed.
Sorry if this got confusing in any way. This was originally meant to be another prompt (Tommy with reflection powers) but it got out of hand and somehow became a full AU.
To clear things up, Risk is Tommy, a notorious villain with a a type of telekinesis that lets him control powers. Though not mentioned, he can also manipulate his own energy (being red, which morphs and solidifies at will).
Eight is Wilbur, who uses the same (condensed energy but blue, which burns more than solidifies and often harms the user (hence the staff)). The Blade is Techno, ofc, who has superhuman strength, speed, stamina and reflexes.
Dream is, well, Dream, who weaponises sound waves, can fly, and walks fast (a deadly combo, I know /j). Ignite, though only mentioned in one line, is Sapnap, able to generate fire with his hands and withstand both hot and cold temperatures.

this was a comment on one of my post from a recent live event. it was photos of joyful queer buckaroos celebrating together and proving love is real through creation, community, and a trot of love. most important I AM LITERALLY IN PHOTO AS A REAL FLESH AND BLOOD HUMAN
it got me thinking about how DEEP AND VICIOUS the irony poisoning of these early internet communities goes. the way buds like this cannot fathom someone just being a sincere person unrelated to their OWN old days of cynical posting. it is fascinating, and i will admit, sad too
despite a DECADE of work, countless live events, 350 tinglers written well before large language models were a thing, there are still people who cannot imagine someone like me could exist. it is a strange place to be. not just part of me, but my entire EXISTENCE is often gatekept
it is easy to say ‘well chuck your art IS strange’ but honestly i think it is more than that. magical realism is common. there are stories about dinosaurs and bigfeet and unicorns. this scoundrel reaction is about two unspoken things: my art is neurodivergent, and my art is queer
heres the thing: I WILL BE FINE. what concerns me is not an issue of MYSELF, it is a concern for the other young outsider buckaroos who see comments like this one and think ‘is that what they will say if i express MY unique way? will i be dehumanized like this at every turn?'
i will be honest, i cannot say that WONT happen, but i CAN say this: for as deep as this irony poisoning goes, it is slowly dying. the way i was treated at the start of my career is LIGHTYEARS DIFFERENT from the way i am treated now. there is a massive shift towards sincerity
BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY. to young artists trotting up, the things that i am harassed over and doubted for and made fun of for are NOT tangental to what has made me successful, THEY ARE LITERALLY THE SAME THINGS THAT HAVE MADE ME SUCCESSFUL. YES I AM STRANGE, WHAT OF IT?
the things that you tuck away for fear of a review that says ‘there is a PROBLEM with this art because it has always been done another way’ THOSE ARE YOUR SUPERPOWERS. the gatekeepers want you to tuck those parts of yourself away because THEY TUCKED AWAY THOSE PART OF THEMSELVES
never forget that your unique way is PURE UNFILTERED 100 PERCENT ROCKET FUEL. it will stick out (maybe, if you are lucky, scoundrels will even say that someone like you could never actually be real), but sticking out isnt so bad when you are waving the flag of love.
in fact, when youre waving the flag of love, sticking out is pretty dang cool. what are flags for, after all? LOVE IS REAL BUCKAROOS. thank you for reading, and if you enjoyed this long post then please consider preordering BURY YOUR GAYS.

I knew I'd written a screed explaining my actual perspective on why there's such a disparity between Faramir's aspirations for Gondor in victory and what Aragorn as king of Gondor actually does. I remembered feeling even at the time that it was a harsher rant about it than I'd normally post, but I didn't want to write it again from scratch.
Finally! I did manage to find where I put that rant—it was actually embedded within a friends-locked Dreamwidth post dealing with an "original" short story I'd written about the convention of a fairy-tale hero getting rewarded with the hand of the king's daughter. The story involves the hero's evolution into a conqueror who I had envisioned as a cross between post-LOTR Aragorn and Cesare Borgia, and eventually my post went off on this tangent that, yeah, is pretty much my opinion:
The point isn't "this is what Aragorn and Faramir are really like" or "this is what they actually do in LOTR." It's more about how Tolkien frames Aragorn as a good and noble and heroic warrior-king and kindly, merciful overlord whom we're expected to believe has good, noble reasons for the distant military campaigns he and Éomer go on until Éomer (aged 28 in LOTR) is an old man. To go by Faramir's speech about wanting Minas Tirith to be a "queen among other queens" rather than a ruler of other, subjugated cities, and going by so much else that Tolkien wrote, it's not that JRRT is broadly uncritical of overlords and kings and empires, but that the rules are kind of broken for Aragorn specifically. This is what George RR Martin's notorious tax policy quote misses IMO. His argument is that Aragorn's arc represents Tolkien's general perspective on leadership, which I think is a very narrow way of viewing Tolkien's work, and why the quote seems so inadequate as a way of understanding leadership in The Silmarillion. And good intentions making good kings is a baffling way of understanding (say) the Númenórean kings of the Second Age. Aragorn gets relatively special treatment because he, personally, is so special. He can become a benevolent and merciful overlord of his enemies, and noble king who brings prosperity, and a victor in far-flung battles, without ever doing anything wrong.
This is a sharp contrast with someone like Tar-Aldarion, whose dream of building Númenor into a naval superpower is far from pure. It's partly motivated by basically good intentions (he recognizes the very real threat that is going to rise long before most people do, and is trying to prepare for when it comes), and yet it's made clear that this entails destructive, terrible actions that cause a lot of needless suffering, and that Aldarion himself is a deeply flawed person with deeply flawed motives.
Essentially, Aragorn gets the glamour of empire without having to do actual imperialisms in the story. The reality that imperial power necessitates doing imperialism is both kind of denied with regard to Aragorn, because he is the most special boy and a magic exception to this somehow, and also kind of vaguely acknowledged in a way that's shunted into euphemistic summaries and references in the Appendices and such. So the point for me was less an argument that Aragorn actually committed specific imperialist actions, but more about pushing back against the idea that that kind of power is achievable without the moral baggage of imperialism and autocracy.

AITA for telling my mother to stop calling my disability a superpower?
I (17M) and my brother (11M) are both autistic. I was diagnosed significantly later in life than my brother as I was able to mask my autistic traits until puberty hit. My mother is not autistic, and our dad is. Recently, we were having a conversation about our diagnosis in the car with her, and she started on a very common tangent by calling our disability a "superpower", and explaining that because we're autistic, we are able to analyze situations in different ways. My mother says this kind of thing often, and usually I stay quiet about it.
My autism actually significantly impaired my ability to understand situations where I was in danger,  and led to me being bullied a lot when I was younger. I was incredibly lonely as a child and due to being isolated by people around me for being "weird" (undiagnosed autistic) I became severely depressed, believing it was entirely my fault. I also developed PTSD and an anxiety disorder due to the bullying by both my peers and teachers. I brought this up, and my brother also brought up the fact that he had really bad issues being able to work well in class before we were able to get accommodations set up for him, to the point where he was almost expelled from school due to lashing out because of overstimulation several times.
My brother and I both said that it was hurtful to call something that had impacted our lives so overwhelmingly negatively a superpower, and asked her to stop. She got upset at this, and asked if I was upset that she was trying to "boost our self-esteem" so we didn't feel bad about it. I told her no, but it felt condescending and upsetting to be told that something that disabled us a superpower. She got even angrier then, and seemed to only focus on me and not my brother at this point.
She asked if I hated this or just hated her, to which i told her no, I just don't like being told my disability is a good thing. She said she meant well and I told her that even if something is done in good faith, it doesn't always end up actually being a good thing. After this, she got really quiet but you could still feel the anger radiating off of her. When we got home, she was very snappy and sent both my brother and myself to our rooms.
I don't think I said anything wrong, but I can't really read tone very well and maybe I said something to upset her. AITA?
What are these acronyms?

Reading this article about how the James Bond films/books embody the 5 stages of grief that British society/a generation (especially the author who lived during the twilight years of the empire) went through after the loss of the empire and how Bond is supposed to represent the British pov and its new role on the world stage as America assumes the role of superpower and engages in a cold war with Russia. It talks about the nostalgia and anger and resentment that the author channeled through his writing at each stage the empire was taken apart (From Indian independence to the Suez Canal crisis). The article suggests that the books/films engage in the fantasy of Britian (or British agents) still being capable and perhaps a bit better than their American counterparts despite America's technological and economic dominance. Also, the constant fantasy of being the only one who can save America and the world. I kind of like it because in a way it fits my own personal head canons about how England came to view his relationship with America, paired with the constant need to give into fantasy/delusions and illusions at odds with reality which kind of goes with his astrology (Neptune in his first house):
Tumblr media
I love entertaining the thought that England doesn't start being truly angry with America until AFTER his empire falls and America replaces him. Before that, he viewed America how one might view an aggressive chihuahua: a bit annoying and perplexing, but easy to ignore or placate. That is no longer the case post-WWII, and it pisses him off to no end. He compensates by trying to take a more dominant role in their relationship, though on the social/personal level. He did become a bit more dominant/aggressive on a geopolitical level during the Falklands War, when America under Reagan tried to caution the UK from going to war over the Falklands and England basically said "fuvk OFF" and then America ended up siding with him ANYWAY and he hadn't felt that alive in YEARS.
In my mind, modern England as a character is a bitter old man who still holds in his heart an insatiable lust for a "larger than life" existence with no outlet for that lust in the modern world (where he is no longer the Empire) and it is driving him insane. Comparatively (and to a go a bit off tangent) America is being driven insane by anxieties over his pre-eminence as the worlds first superpower -a role he believes he wasn't ready for though he'll never give England or anyone else the satisfaction of knowing that- and his own mortality due to being so young and in his mind in much more danger of seizing to exist in comparison to older nations (though in truth he shouldn't worry so much, after all France is still around and he literally went through a death and rebirth during his Revolution. It takes a lot to completely disappear a nation).

new underside dev diary is out for patreon subs. after a lengthy digression on verbs (might be more of that in my monday scraps, i cut myself off because the tangent was getting derailing), i talk a little bit about angles, underside's solution to the tangle of thorns that is finding ways to mechanize superpowers. as ever, that means last week's post on approaches is free to read.
Tumblr media
underside is my work-in-progress dark superhero ttrpg focused on exploring trauma, escalating conflicts, and fast-paced action based around cool power interactions more than statblocks--what masks is to teen titans, i want underside to be to worm. i've been working on it for about two years now and released a much earlier draft under the name capes in the dark--i'm currently hoping to release a feature-complete playtest pdf in early 2024.
if you subscribe to my patreon, you'll get to see these weekly updates as they come out, as well as a weekly scrap of writing, poetry, or game design. and you'll also be trapped in my torture labyrinth :)

From "Phantom Blood" to "Stone Ocean", which JJBA part do you think would be the best to be isekai'd into, and which one would be the worst?
Thanks for sending in the question anon! I've been thinking about it all day and going down a bunch of historical rabbitholes to make my choices (which, after typing out several hours later, I realized wouldn't be much fun for anyone to read).
For me personally, I’d say the best one to be isekai’d into would be Diamond is Unbreakable (part 4), and I think the worst one would be Battle Tendency (part 2).
I give my reasoning below, with some heavy editing, which may make it sound a bit strange. I have a tendency to talk too much, so I've tried to edit it down. It's still a bit long.
++++++++++++++
I can't see any benefit to phantom blood, considering Dio is at full overpower with abilities we never see again in other parts, and everyone else would simply be too easy to force into backing off. Johnathan is easy to manipulate, so is a young Erina. Speedwagon can settle for less than he wants in a relationship if he feels Johnathan will judge him for it. And Zeppeli... Is kinda the only threat, but I can't really fathom what a relationship (platonic or romantic) would be like with him. In any case, not the best, but not the worst.
Battle Tendency has my ass beat. I do not run, I will not run, and what would even be the point when more than half the characters in this arc are superhuman/cyborgs? I can't outwit, lie, cheat, or gross out any of them and expect to survive. Even the ones that wouldn't kill me like Suzie Q just have an impenetrable state of delusion. I cannot win this one. Having a horrible time here. Dare I say, the worst time actually.
Because yes: Vento Aureo is all about the mafia having superpowers, and it's well established that they can be some crazy, creative fucks when it comes to torture and murder. And they should be the absolute worst, because organized crime can do way scarier shit than anyone can in Stone Ocean simply because resources and time aren't hard to get.
BUT! I think since there isn't a world war going on, with cyborg Nazis-- Which is a low bar, but such is life when you overthink-- is what makes Vento Aureo better than battle tendency.
And Stone Ocean is... Bad but tolerable. I'd just try my best to mind my own business, and crumple like a paper ball when someone pulls possessive/obsessive shit. It probably wouldn't even connect in my brain the characters are acting yandere, I would just assume they're doing standard prison things since I got isekai'd into the prison arc.
Now that narrows done the best choices between prt 3, and prt 4.
I'mma go ahead and say it: I'd prefer a small town in Japan to crossing countries and continents.
Diamond is Unbreakable has it all. Modern-ish technology, the original pop culture yandere herself, reliable access to medical care (good luck finding my very specific pills in the middle of a desert), and thankfully: A much smaller cast. Keeping track of all the characters in Morioh? Infinitely easier than keeping track of all the characters in Stardust Crusader. Even if we're including those one-off villains, and random background characters, a-la those twisted wonderland isekai.
Though considering JJBA is a franchise that's mostly manga and anime, it's not likely the multiple characters would become interested in the isekai'd victim, since the mechanics would be fundamentally different. A reader or a viewer isn't really a god, they're more of a prophet, if even that. Or just really good at cold reading someones personality. To continue this tangent just a smidge more, I think if you said you got isekai'd, the only people who would both understand what you're saying and believe you is Toshikazu, and maybe Koichi.
What the hell am I supposed to do being dragged place to place, or sitting in a house for three months? With the tech from the 1980's?

I think transfem eridan is an interesting interpretation of eridan because (though not frequently stated in the comic) she spent time crafting her identity around a dead male figure (dualscar) and the cruelty of alternia. This created toxicity, instability, and ignorant bigotry in eridan. I also think her whole deal with magic can be symbolic of a repressed sense of self or even femininity as many girl characters in Homestuck use magic. She denies magic saying it's fake and calling her magic wand a "science" wand furthering the sentiment of her repressed femininity.
Thank you anon for seeing the vision because that is indeed a good jist of it. Now, if you don't mind I'll use the points you brought up as a platform to get into them in detail.
Eridan indeed crafts a lot of her facade around Orphaner Dualscar. It's unclear if she ever had a journal of his like Vriska did Mindfang, but it's clear she was aware of his lore (for fun headcanoning: judging from Aranea's shared penchant for storytelling with Mindfang and Cronus's side music thing, I would figure Dualscar's tales were encoded musically, possibly in sea shanties or a lyrical epic). It should also be noted that in the only visual depiction of Dualscar, while Eridan shares the striped pants, jewelry, and cape, it's her scarf that is the twist on the formula. Now, in the heart of headcanon this is all but proof that it's a gift from patterned fabric loving Kanaya, and that she gets adam's apple dysphoria. But that's just headcanon. 🚬🍷
Where Dualscar and the unfathomable cruelty of Alternia intersect for Eridan is with the inherited duty of Orphaner. I think I fully agree with how Alternia made her toxic and unstable, but I will disagree on the part that Eridan is ignorantly bigoted. In my mind, the more accurate way to put it is complicity defeatist. Alternia didn't brainwash Eridan, it just broke her into accepting it because how familiar she became with the mechanisms and forces that made it unstoppable. She's not ignorant of her world's cruel nature, and any sample of her bigotry is performance rather than belief. This is still harmful overall, don't get it twisted, but it's no different than other characters hemospectrum hangups, from Karkat to Equius. Now this will be a helluva tangent, but I do promise it goes somewhere on the reading of transfem HC Eridan, while providing a lot of interpretation of canon Eridan. Because the most underappreciated detail of Alternia as a setting is that it is kind of in a cold war with itself.
"As a self-governing body, the land dwelling portion of [HIC's] empire was formidable. But her force of sea dwellers was equally formidable, and the two were kept in check not only with the threat of psychic annihilation, but their mutual hatred and distrust."
It's another thing that makes Eridan's claims of wanting to kill all land dwellers ironic and an empty threat, because in cold war fashion, any attempt to make a move on land dwellers would be met by their Mutually Assured Destruction. Yet, despite neither side being able to make a move, it's still a cold war. Even for die hard hemocasteists like Equius, sea dwellers are seen as mortal enemies that it's alright to kill in spite of normal hemospectrum conventions. This is why I previously mentioned Eridan as experiencing a form of siege mentality. I will always disagree that Eridan is a supremacist because I think the most accurate diagnosis of her genuine issues is that she's the rawest simplest form of xenophobe. Trusting of members of her own group, trusting the "other" only in that their hostility is earnest and reliable, embodying the rampant paranoia that characterized both Cold War superpowers. Plus, although her efforts are still noncommittal and performative, Eridan does make a show of seeking out doomsday devices (read: WMDs), blatantly imitating the Cold War's arms race.
So why do I bring up the Cold War? Because it relates and reinforces another thing that Eridan is associated with. (Jack) Noir. Eridan borrows a lot visually and ideologically from film noir, a genre that thrived and established itself in that post-war start of the cold war America. Eridan's best and most striking panels (IMO) are pages 3328 and 3331. You may know what I'm talking about before even looking them up they're so visually iconic. They take their cues from noir chiaroscuro lighting. Stark shadows and light, backlit silhouette, the classic trope of lighting through Venetian blinds/bannisters being evoked by Eridan's striped clothing in the one. (And being fair to all perspectives, even anti-Eridaners: take a pause from comparing Eridan to Draco Malfoy, because nobody likes HP anymore and maybe start comparing her to Sin City's Kevin. I've been called a lot of things for liking Eridan before but you could be the first to call me a cannibal) Visual language can only suggest so much though. Eridan still fits noir philosophy in spades. Nihilism, cynicism, godlessness and sin. Having nobody you can trust, angels that may be demons, black and white melodrama. Falling prey to a society that will chew you up and spit you out, make you the terrible person it wants you to be. And at the end of the day: tragic endings, friends killing friends. Eridan is cynical and defeatist. She lived in a world that despised her, put in the role to keep it that way, and gave up trying to change it. You can see in her associations that she likes her land dweller friends, but her approach is like how she sees magic. It would be nice if it were real, she'd like that, but it isn't.
Okay okay, the Cold War, film noir, what the fuck does any of this have to do with transfem Eridan? The paranoia. The constant lingering doubt of who can be trusted with a secret. The hiding of true selves and identity. Sympathies for the "other side" having to be suppressed or hidden, disguised. Lest you be accused. Or, if those sympathies have evolved into identity, caught and outed. How all the suppression of the self takes its psychological toll. So yeah, it has a depressing amount to do with her.
Paranoia arc over. We've already gone over magic as a symbol for the ideal versus the "real." Homestuck is even less shy as using it as a symbol for the innocence of childhood, as seen mainly with Tavros clinging to his childish innocence. So, it's certainly no stretch that it can represent repressed gender, in a way a combination of those two. The ideal being the innocence of a childhood raised the way we may have wanted, versus the reality of the one we receive and in which innocence is lost and dysphoria is present. Again, Eridan's approach to magic is wishing it's real, but being resigned to its unobtainability. Wishing magic was real. Wishing that she could trust her friends. Wishing that she had a choice in who she is. But knowing that magic is fake. Knowing that land dwellers hate sea dwellers. Knowing that her destiny is taking up the mantle of the Orphaner.
Homestuck is a whole mess of character parallelism and foils, and Eridan does indeed parallel with a lot of girls, especially when it comes to magic. To start with the obvious: There are almost too many Rose-Eridan parallels to count. But just to demonstrate from their intros alone: One is a dabbler in Freudian psychoanalysis and the other is Mrs. I-have-a-psychological-complex and am definitely a Freudian mess of I kill mother and father figures for a living. And don't get me started on the W fridge. She shares a little parallel with Jade, a Witch, by embodying the harpoon gun side of the riflekind. For fellow trolls, Eridan is often less parallel and more foil especially for Kanaya and Feferi, but that's a whole other story. Though considerably less "magic," Meenah somehow shares more character design DNA with Eridan than Feferi.
All cherry picked alpha kid parallels do come with the asterisk that they all share DNA with the dead trolls but Roxy is notable because so many of her parallels with her dancestor end up doubling up with Eridan too, the most significant being the love of wizards. Since noir featured so heavily in this post, I'd also be remiss to not point out that Jane is associated with hard boiled fiction, which is earlier than the later noir but they're fairly similar genres, sharing a lot of tropes and themes. Also because I think Jane's skeptical, cynical hard boiled detective connections are an often overlooked part of her character that people should appreciate more. She's more than just baking, people.
With the transfem reading, the entire deal with there cherubs becomes a whole other thing. But, the jist really speaks for itself. Magic, wandkind, childhood innocence, femininity. Living reality, riflekind, emotional stuntedness, masculinity. I'm going to avoid saying anything definitive about the author because it's just not my place, I don't know them personally, and tbh I trust them about as far as I can throw them. However, to put it frankly, the cherubs could be seen as the smoking gun of "having hangups with how an upbringing killed the feminine aspect, villainizing the masculine and idealizing the feminine through the symbol of magic and just don't pay attention to how the author self insert dies accepting that magic isn't real." Like, FUCK, that's goddamned motherfucking gender, baby. But look, is that projection? Hell yeah that's projection but as a reading of the fiction it's not that much a stretch.
I want to also end off with the symbolism that could've been if the retcons were done differently and in a way that allowed the dead trolls to live (y'know, the way it probably should've been). Karkat could've fulfilled his thing of being the second coming of gnostic Jesus by enlightening his team to see their respective truths, and for Eridan it would be seeing that she can Hope and accept magic. An egg being allowed to incubate and hatch, rather than destroyed. A more productive form of bottom surgery. Transition from prince to princess.

why cartman sees through kyle’s bs when no one else does
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i feel like the reason why cartman can easily see how phony and hypocrticial kyle is bc of his sociopathicness and how he lacks empathy. kyle is always going on all these tangents bitching about all these issues going on in the world and how strongly he feels abt injustices and shit, so cartman just doesn’t give a fuck about anything kyle is saying and it all flies over his head LOL. kyle is rlly quick to try to pull on everyone’s heartstrings about shit that’s wrong, fucked up, or sad and i feel like this easily gets to some of the other characters, because well they actually do have a moral conscious. it can be easy for the other kids to be persuaded by kyle or manipulated by what he’s saying bc when he brings up an issue they feel bad too and don’t wanna seem like heartless assholes who don’t care. the fact that cartman is able to completely emotionally detach himself & think more rationally whenever kyle is ranting about shit is his superpower LOL. like yeah it’s fucked up how selfish and ignorant cartman can be that he doesn’t care or feel bad about certain things, but this makes it EASY for him to see through kyle’s bs and how deceitful kyle rlly is LOL. he’s not paying attention to the issue at hand kyle is getting all worked up about (nor does he give a flying fuck) or getting emotionally entangled in it, he just notices how kyle behaves and pays attention to his actions and not the words coming out of his mouth. all cartman sees is a rlly fucking crazy person that will go to extreme lengths to get his way, which is honestly how I just see kyle too LOL. like honestly i feel like i’ve developed a lot of sociopathic tendencies in recent years bc i know how to just completely turn off my empathy and not feel bad and look at shit rationally in situations where everyone else gets worked up about how horrible something is. i don’t lack empathy, i just reached a point in my life where it’s easier for me to just detach from shit and not care at all than to care too much, bc i can def swing the opposite direction and get WAYYY too emotionally invested in shit or try to help too much LOL. and I feel like all the bitchass fans who worship everything kyle does are people who feel bad way too easily and get worked up over EVERYTHING too, so they agree with everything kyle says and the actions he takes. but it def takes having a rational mind and learning not to care too much about every little problem in the world (bc life sucks and then you die get over it) to truly see whether or not someone is ACTUALLY good or does the right thing. that’s why it’s sooo easy for me to see through people’s hypocrisy when someone pretends to do good but they’re rlly just awful LOL. and i feel like cartman is able to easily do this too with kyle bc he just gives 0 shits about any sense of morality or what’s wrong in the world. he sees all of the horrible actions kyle takes, how he can lie, act pretentious, and just be downright selfish and cruel to the people around him in order to get his way.

I have adhd, and I have an inner monologue, as I’m sure many others do. (I ‘hear’ my thoughts and assign characters I’m reading voices that don’t sound like my own in my head).
However, I’m wondering if anyone else traps music to their inner monologue like I do?
an explanation:
Sometimes, when my inattentive-ADHD is acting up and my mind is really fucking busy (overloaded with thoughts), I will get out my headphones and put on music. If I’m out walking, I will continue walking, but if I am in my room, I will lie down, face up. I listen to the music, paying attention to nearly every facet of it, or focusing on one specific part. I memorize it until there is nothing in my mind but the music itself. I even tap the beats or the melody with my fingers along any kind of surface, including my thumb. No thoughts, just music.
My inner monologue voice just becomes the music.
It’s basically a coping mechanism, I guess.
Yet, because I intentionally trap the music in my head, they come back later as ear worms. And depending on my current situation and multiple other factors, the song will either just take over my thoughts, or become background noise to my thoughts. The songs can switch up just as quickly as adhd thought tangents form, or it can feel like they’re battling in my head for who gets to remain. I sometimes describe it to people as having a personal radio.
and I have quite a few friends who are some kind of adhd/audhd, etc.
yet, I have never met anyone else who does this.
a sad thing about this is:
In college, I was given an assignment in a music theory class to do some deep listening to the sounds around me for ten minutes. In this assignment, there was the concept of global listening and focused listening. Global listening means paying attention to all of the sounds that surround you; someone talking, the cars, some birds chirping, etc. Focused listening means paying attention to one specific thing by tuning everything out. I realized quickly that this is the exact same sort of thing I do when listening to music. This fact brought a small level of joy to me. It became one of the few times my ADHD actually felt like a superpower.
but anyway,
just wondering if anyone else does this.

Okay, now they REALLY gotta drop the Jacobi duck-related lore 🦆 (and I need to stop holding out hope Blessie will return 😔💔)
(Or my reaction to Wolf359’s Mission Mishap Episodes).
Welcome back dear readers! My schedule has been busy lately, but the Mission Mishap episodes were mercifully short, so I’ve been listening to a few episodes per week and have gathered my reactions here for you all to enjoy.
Tagging the mutuals who got me invested in this, and if you want to be tagged or untagged from these posts, lmk, or you can follow my blog or simply follow the tag "#bods wolf359 reactions". Anyone who has followed me for a while knows my updates are inconsistent, so I apologize in advance for that and for any spelling/grammar mistakes in my posts.
@sophieswundergarten @oflightningandstars @acollectionofcuriousreblogs @herawell @commsroom
Also tagging @lovelyladylavie because I promised I’d tag you way back on this post and forgot (I’m so sorry!) but my reactions are all under the tag so you should be able to find them!
Mission Mishaps: A Little Night Music
"Not fully reading your contract before you sign it...not understanding your job responsibilities, and wanting commander off your back" I love Doug's sponsorships and the dramatic irony 😂 *Cue The Fine Print playing in the background...*
I guess the only actor they could get was Doug. Nice of him to fill us in on what Minkowski and Hera are saying though.
OH MY GOSH.
HIS VOICE.
DR. DR. PROFESSOR DR. PROFESSOR F. EIFFEL 😂
It's so fancy. Mannnyyyy PhDs. Very impressive, Doug.
I'm so happy we got more radio show Doug. I need to hear him do a radio show where all his personalities talk to each other. Being the special guest on the show is Cutter's punishment for all eternity. The Dear Listeners make 5 copies of Doug so he can be all the characters.
"The feeling you'll die miserably..." yikes, broke character for a second there Doug.
"Ah yes...the way the piano notes dance around the...other piano notes...absolutely fantastic piece for when you want to start your day with the paino-y energy" Well said Doug.
Oh boy. Cowboy music. Is this the return of Badass McAwesome? Do I dare to hope?
Ah, well, better luck next time.
His poor toe. I hate when that happens too, Doug.
The...mind eraser?
Don't like how that sounds. Especially after the threats in "Change of Mind".
Better not be foreshadowing.
"This song is a mutant, it's superpower is being catchy. It never leaves."
Okay, THAT better not be foreshadowing.
"Afraid of the plant monster?" I wish we could be, Doug. I wish we could be. 😔🪴
"Worried you'll never get back to Earth to see you're family?" Oh, Doug. 💔
"Bosses you're pretty sure are kind of evil" Kind of is generous Doug.
Yeah...yeah Doug that got very dark there for a bit.
Moral boosting? Oh dear. MUTE 😂 AFTER TWO MINUTES 😂
I love Doug. Poor fellow. I enjoyed the broadcast Doug. They don't appreciate your talents.
Mission Mishaps: The Space You’re In
I love the title’s double meaning.
More of Doug dodging his work I see. A common theme.
“Please stop going off on tangents” I guess Cutter and Pryce didn’t send them up with any ADHD meds. “I’m here for work 😊” Nice cover, Doug. 👍🏻 nailed it.
“I’m gonna get that thing that I forgot”. You do that Doug.
How did I know Doug was gonna break something? 🤣
Specimen incubation period??? BLESSIE????
How dare they tease us with Blessie lore?
Good question Doug. Why IS there a harpoon?
Doug literally has no where to hide. 🤣
Oh right. Space. Why do I see that backfiring?
PFFTTT—- Did she just call him a lizard? 🦎
“It’s beautiful” -> “I hate space” poor Doug. I’m sensing a pattern 🤣
Mission Mishaps: You Want, I Solve Ah Doug stealing coffee from Minkowski. Once again, I sense a pattern.
Wait. A puppy? 🥰🐕‍🦺🐾
“The mean lady who runs this place” really Doug? You did just steal her coffee.
2 tails? Well, twice the wagging, I see that as a win. 🥰
Follow him Doug!
IS ZACH VALENTI DOING THE VOICE OF THE DOG?
AS SMEGOL AND GOLLUM FROM LORD OF THE RINGS?
Tumblr media
AND IS DOUG HALLUCINATING FROM THE COFFEE???
The dogs are multiplying? David Bowie is here? Okay Doug is hallucinating for sure.
Ah hello Hilbert.
Why is he treating the manual like it’s the ring? 🤣
Well. That was weird.
Oh, Hilbert. All to get Doug to bond with the manual.
And yet something tells me he still won’t read it. It does sound like he might be cuddling with it at night and killing anyone who tries to take it from him though. Mildly concerning. Mission Mishaps: The Veldt Oh my gosh. The episode description. Eiffel goes into the greenhouse… y’all. I don’t wanna get my hopes up, but…
IS THIS BLESSIE CONTENT???? 🪴
Tumblr media
I’m so excited guys. I don’t wanna get my hopes up, I know I shouldn’t, but I need Blessie back!
So Doug is doing his chores again. I sense a pattern.
He does a great Australian accent. Again, I need the aliens to clone Doug just so he can have a show where his different personalities talk to each other. Hm. Oxygen chamber has a lot of passwords. And a lot of weird ways to enter passwords. Which is nice for protecting the air, but not so great when you, you know, desperately need air and only have a few seconds to enter the password.
The binary forms of color? This is so extreme not to mention boring. Not one sign of Blessie. I’ve been bamboozled. And WHY is there a timer? This is so weird.
THAT’S IT?
Well I’m upset. We went to the greenhouse and didn’t see leaf or stem of Blessie. 💔
I’m not giving up hope. If not in the show then in fanfic that plant is coming back.
Mission Mishaps: Lights Out
Another entry from dear Doug. I wonder if Minkowski and Hilbert are gonna have him do something he doesn’t want to and then hijinks ensues and Doug messes something up?
HP Lovecraft, Call of Kuthulu? Oh me too Doug stuff is hard to pronounce.
Doug does a good creepy narrator voice. It’s funny to think of Hera listening to all this. It reminds me of those people on Lovelace’s crew reading stories together.
“Property of Dr….”
DOCTOR WHO? (A good show, but I’m literally asking the question).
Is it that girl on Lovelace’s crew who liked to read? (I’m sorry it’s hard to keep track of their names).
Ah yes, and the star is acting up. As is Doug’s imagination. I’m sure this couldn’t possibly go wrong.
Hilbert. What sample? What escaped?
I’m not getting my hopes up this time. You teased me with Blessie once. I’m not falling for it again. I’ve been burned before.
It just sounds like a little mouse. 🐁
…I hope it’s not one of the spiders… I’m now beginning to realize Doug’s fears…
“It’s small and scurrying”
Is it a mouse?
Doug, it’s probably just a mouse. “It’s staring at me.” Well it’s probably scared too, Doug.
Doug, you better not have killed that poor little mouse.
You killed the maintenance drone Doug? Well that was a wild ride. At first I thought they weren’t gonna go the “Doug messes up a thing Hilbert and Minkowski are doing” route but they always surprise me with their ability to bring it back there. Not that I’m complaining, I’m loving these stories. Mission Mishaps: Cold Turkey More Doug! Wow. 553 days. That’s… that’s a lot.
Thanksgiving? Is this the same Thanksgiving from Hera’s memory? 🦃
Banned from the kitchen? Oh poor, Doug. Was Hilbert not available? I guess he’s Russian so he doesn’t celebrate it. But he can probably cook.
Doug is just like me fr. Don’t ask my partner what happened when I tried to make him food. All you need to know was that I tried my best, and it’s the thought that counts.
Doug is gonna burn this Turkey. I know the actress was probably busy and these are “extra” episodes, but Hera please come online and help him.
Oh gross. Cans of spam? Disgusting.
Right, maybe Hilbert can do something. But on the other hand, Hilbert and Eiffel can make each other worse. And what was that about psychoactive properties? What was Hilbert exposed to?
“Can I give indifference? I have plenty of that.” Yes, Hilbert, you made that very clear.
“Oh well if I have to “come on”.” “Really!” “No.” Hilbert is lowkey hilarious 🤣 “I like pecan pie…maybe thanksgiving is not so terrible.” 🥧
I love how Hilbert sounds like he’s plotting something ominous even when he’s just talking about pie. 🤣
But seriously, why was he in Texas? He never answered that.
“The best way to keep him away from the kitchen was to put you in charge” oh poor Doug. She was right though.
Aw, this is sweet. I like how it connects to what we saw in Hera’s memories too.
Mission Mishaps: No Complaints Aw man, SI-5? What happened to Doug?
First they take Blessie from me then they force me to spent time with his killers.
Well gang, I guess it’s time for the adventures of Whiskey Man and Duck Boy.
Wow. Sitting in a car and brooding in the rain. An action packed adventure if I’ve ever heard one.
Oh wait, are they stalking Maxwell? They said she was from a small town.
“Did you stalk me?” Yes, he did Jacobi. Kepler was acting so creepy at that bar, I’m sorry. What even was that?
“I really hate you sometimes sir. ✨You’re the worst✨” oh Duck Boy you have no idea.
THE DUCK THING? OH NO PLEASE TELL US ABOUT THE DUCK THING.
What video. WHAT VIDEO.
Please tell us why Jacobi is brooding and PLEASE tell us about the duck video.
Jacobi taught him questions only? Wow he really does love to dig his own grave.
Kepler is not your friend Jacobi. If you think he is, you… gosh you really need to meet somebody. Anybody.
All this complaining… Jacobi really is the evil version of Doug sometimes…
What was on Jacobi’s mind? What did Rachel think was on his mind? Oh, his one year recruitment.
Nothing good ever comes out of a mysterious duffel bag. Why does he have all those fireworks?
When your evil boss takes you on a fake stake out and gives you some fireworks to blow up because he knows you crave destruction: 💣🎆🥰🎇🧨😍
I like that they play fireworks sounds as they roll the credits. It’s a nice touch. Mission Mishaps: Happy Holidays Already down to the last one. Time flies when you’re having fun. Oh more SI-5. Hopefully a little less Whiskey Boy, a little more Duck related lore.
Oh no such luck. :(
Geez, Kepler really does love flexing every single bit of power that he has, doesn’t he? Just get to the point already! Why couldn’t he have been the one to go instead of Maxwell?
“Oh no! Not a binary fault in the quartical… um… that’s bad!” Duck Boy stop being funny I don’t want to like you.
Not Kepler’s slow claps… I swear this man is infatuated with the idea of being a super villain.
What are they afraid of?
A holiday party?
the evil space corporation has a HOLIDAY PARTY?
For what holiday? Cutter and Pryce clearly hate holidays. They’ve ordered people killed on nearly every holiday we’ve seen! … actually maybe that’s their way of making the holidays their own… and it makes me wonder who they want to kill at this party. Jacobi and Maxwell have a right to be concerned about this.
“We don’t ask questions. We trust that we were given orders for a reason.” THAT ONLY WORKS IF YOU ARE WORKING FOR TRUSTWORTHY PEOPLE. And committing or endorsing murder takes you off the trustworthy list.
The idea of Cutter and Pryce celebrating Christmas disgusts me. Like, physically I have a hard time stomaching it. Christmas is about joy, and love, and goodwill toward mankind. Cutter and his crazy science gf have no place involving themselves in that. Not unless they show some serious remorse and do some serious penance and jail time.
SECRET SANTA EXCHANGE?
What kind of horrifying messed up gifts do people get each other? I hope Jacobi gets a pet duck.
… Maxwell’s mom died? “We all know you don’t talk to your mom” “…my mom just died?” “No Jacobi.” STOP BEING FUNNY.
Compare this to the holiday stuff that happens with the Hephaestus… this has such a creepy undertone. Especially when you imagine the events happening at the same time.
Well, that’s all for the Mission Mishaps. Sorry it took me so long guys, but I love and appreciate your patience. Excited to finish the rest of the series and hopefully I’ll have more for you soon!

Umineko ch4 first half
take a look, it's in a book, reading rainbow
i think misinformation about kyrie and rudolf's relationship was revealed to me in a dream last night.
i was a little down on the fantasy action sequences but ange's whole Bit of traveling back from a possible 1999 is Compelling. ange to battler: "umineko is too long please fix the pacing." ok now let me tell you about my school life and have Level 2 Flashbacks with maria yay for maria stories :D "anti-rosa: i can't forgive the me of yesterday" is awesome. "rokkenjimagate" oh boy time to introduce a new family with a million new characters. 90s ange land is Also a fantasy land just a different genre just like a james bond jr sorta fantasy. umineko: true crime is fail ughhhh bernie directly says "you gotta pay attention to the fantasy sequences if you wanna solve the mystery"
[back to battler] yay i was ahead of battler on the replacement person concept BUT i definitely should've considered grandpa. battler's never seen him. if he's dead then doc and shannon and natsuhi are complicit in Something. weird scene with rosa and maria on rokkenjima where apparently dying together last loop made her so much chiller? she'll even uu-uu with maria. [back to ange] maria "autism is my superpower" ushiromiya dear reddit my tulpa is giving me more tulpas please advise lambdadelta says: "you need to stalemate them so we get unlimited umineko" [back to maria] i'm definitely closer to the anje side of the childhood trauma spectrum than maria but i'm Feeling It. was crying a little at work reading the maria segments with the welfare officer showing up.
[back to battler] ugggghhhhhh not the rabbits again. genji dies like gus breaking bad lol on one hand summoning a demon (gaap) who is like "i'm a WOMAN demon and men are from mars lololol" is Incredibly Lame but on the other hand this is Abusive Grandpa's fantasy land. same with the whole furniture house elf "oh we live for serving people" thing. i'm now convinced grandpa died before the loop started and a scene where he summons demons makes me More convinced. but he's still "Responsible" for what happens because of how he abused everyone else. Long as hell book in two parts? Rich old man has unrequited crush, reads some books, makes his fantasies Everyone Else's Problem? fantasy vs. reality genre deconstruction with an idiot protagonist and comically absurd action scenes? sometimes goes on really long tangents? mostly known for the memes but they only scratch the surface? Umineko is the proper successor to Don Quixote :P
