I will just say, personally I think one of the most disgusting parts of those posts is the insinuation that someone who is abused wouldn't still hang out with/be around their abuser and could easily stay away if they wanted to, and that that's proof they're not "really" being abused. especially a child under 12. as if there aren't multiple forms and levels of abuse. like way to tell everyone you've never known or been a victim of abuse irl and have no empathy for the complexity of these situations. if you have then, yikes dude! all the best bc there's some stuff to work through here! it's just fucking base level knowledge that people get trapped in abusive situations because they're manipulated and you think a child - the one single character who approaches life and people with kindness and goodness - who sees the best in his abuser, who he has known as his dad his whole life, is going to just acknowledge what's happening to him and say "no I don't want to hang out with you" ?? are you dumb?? do you know how fantastic is it for joyce to have gotten out of that situation? how brave it was for jonathan to take the physical abuse so (maybe) will might not have had to? and this is just fictional characters. ew ew ew at their mindset for irl situations.
