People try too hard to make Curly an active participant in Jimmy's abuse. Isn't the whole point that he's passive in everything Jimmy does? Abuse occurs because he actively doesn't do anything? Not to call someone out or be mean, but I saw a post saying Anya's ID being in Curly's locker at the beginning shows that he intended to prevent Anya from filing an HR report and I disagree. I get where that interpretation is coming from, but I think it's a little uncharitable. I don't like being too kind to Curly because he's like...a morally mid dude at best lol But if we're going by the HR report interpretation, I would say it's more likely he requested Anya's ID in order to file an HR report on her behalf. After all, the only way to contact Pony (that we see) is in the cockpit, he's the Captain, and Pony Express sucks bad so I wouldn't put it past them to only allow the Captain to use the communication device thing. As we see before, Curly is the only one able to use tools around the ship that you would think other employees could use (ex. Swansea should be able to use the axe if he's the repair guy. Idk why they'd need an ax but that falls under manual labor which Swansea is designated for as the mechanic/fixer dude. But it has to go through Curly). I never got the vibe that Curly moved to actively protect Jimmy. He just lets things happen without say a word; Jimmy walks all over him, and by extension, the whole crew. I get why people would think that because he gives the whole "Hey Jimmy, we can get through this together, bud" spiel right before the crash. This part interests me a lot because there's so many ways to interpret Curly's intentions there. My interpretation is that Curly is on autopilot mode. The responses seem so stilted in comparison to Jimmy's. Like it's the kind of thing Curly's said before again and again and again when Jimmy's gotten in trouble. However, as others previously pointed out, I don't think Curly ever dealt with Jimmy doing something this irredeemable. He doesn't know how to respond, so he just goes for the default "You've gotten through tough situations before. Work through it one step at a time." Like the response is lame af lol I think he was in shock; he was scared (and just so I can say it one more time: he's super lame).

Anyway, this is way longer than I intended and I've said things a billion people have already stated. But uhhh tldr the whole point of Curly's character is he's passive; he never acts. He just watches. Making him an active participant in the abuse by taking actions to cover for Jimmy (like preventing Anya from filing an HR report) defeats the purpose of his character. He's a bystander.

to me looking at the people who have been friends with the dteam since before they started content creation vs the ones who only started hanging around them when they got famous. especially when compare that list to ppl who have dropped them/started shit talking them and the one's who have stayed, because you start to notice a very interesting pattern...

punz is an unfortunate outlier 😭 but yes overall it does seem like their before-content friends have just been staying out of things for the most part

my greatest fear whenever i get a fixation on a new piece of media is that after roughly 1.5 years, without fail, i will lose interest in it and feel like a soulless shell of myself until i find something new to obsess over.

the good thing about me being obsessed about s class he/roine is that i went so overboard with it that i started writing fic and now i always have. checks notes. at least 2 giant WIPs at any given time. so whenever i've sucked all the taste out of canon, i just turn to one of my AUs instead while i let canon/my other WIPs fallow

I just wanted to express this somewhere, because your last post made me think about my opinions on Light. I first watched DN in middle school and I had the completely arbitrary thought (i was a nd child way too used to telling myself and deciding what opinion I was "supposed" to have based on what seemed "normal" around me) that I hated light with every fiber of my being, for no better reason than "well he kills people and that's wrong isn't it?". Obviously I don't think that way anymore, but I still feel that innate pull to staunchly defending L over him... I think it's just that I have a weird taste in men tho and L's The Hot One to me. I really like Light I think. Don't tell 12yo me or he'll have an aneurysm

Hahaha, I was basically the same when I first watched the anime in my teens! I remember being SO MAD at Light for most of the show, especially when he was like gloating and evilly grinning about the characters he killed. His death still made me cry and feel sick back then though, and even when I wasn't sure if I really liked him I always liked reading the fics where he was featured heavily and characterized well. He is a character that steadily grew on me more and more over time. I only really felt like I loved him my second time around in the fandom in my 20s. By then I had fully read the manga and I had developed more of an appreciation for what an unusual and entertaining and well-written, complex character he is

anyway I love that this au has lowkey became my new setting to just. explore jiang ziya/arjuna dynamics with each other (and with oberon but that's irrelevant to this post) completely separate from what fgo's doing. bc right now I can't stop thinking about arjuna and jiang ziya taking Months to even begin to trust each other enough to talk about their respective relationship insecurities bc a) slow to trust and open up on both ends and b) not wanting to expose the other to their more 'flawed' aspects yet
