AshtonIrwin: The Canyon was the first song I wrote for my album blood on the drums. It took me 3 days and I primarily wrote it in my car driving around the valley. I thought about my 20’s a lot during the process knowing how depressed I had become at times, feeling sad about the state of the world and loosing hope for our future & deeply questioning my relationship to my addictions and emptiness in regards to my upbringing and lack of a father figure. A horrible statistic I was astonished by when creating this song resembles %85 of people that end their lives are men. I began to further explore what everybody’s personal “canyon” they pass through feels like. In simple terms it’s always darkest before the dawn. Hold on young man, the world needs you to live.

hi everyone!
i’m going to be using this account to archive content about the used!
there’s so much lost media when it comes to the band, so i wanted to try to consolidate and save it all.
i’m going to be organizing by member, but also will try to organize by year or album era.
i’ll work on updating the layout of this account soon. right now, i'm focusing on archiving pictures from flickr!

I’m sure I’ve said this already but broken windows gets me so bad because it expresses the tender & gentle kind of grief that you feel for someone you were a child with, who you will always remember as a child before anything else. you can hear it in the way he sings the chorus, because sometimes you’re young and scared and careless but when you grow up you can forgive yourself. of course you regret it, but what else could you have done? even if you went back the same thing would happen again. you can look back with hindsight and compassion and know that sometimes people make the same mistakes again and again, and you loved them enough to know that. I’ve always understood “I could see this coming/I’ve been standing here the whole time” as being about going through your memories and connecting to versions of yourself and others that don’t exist anymore. and the song is called broken windows after broken windows theory because it’s not about closure or moving on, it’s about choosing not to move on and be in the pain and connected as a final kindness to the people you used to be and it’s literally like augh bert

did anyone else hear the roses and think about ashtons outlook on the world and its survivability presented in it and want to wrap him up in the fluffiest blanket and sit him in front of social justice actually proven to work for him to focus on when he feels purposeless and surround him with lovely people to show that the world can be a kind place and people can be good
