At the entrance to Pinwheel Forest, Leafie, Ana, and Aries await for Lamont. Giving Aries enough time to admire her new getup, especially her hoodie as she felt pieces of her old mask. “I really need to thank mom for this one…” she whimpered, causing Leafie to smile warmly with a chirp and for Ana huff with agreement. Leafie meanwhile looked over to see the Forest… it looked the same yet different… like visiting a familiar home that had been arranged.

“It feels different than I remember… almost a year… I do hope everyone is okay…” Leafie spoke as she looked down with her antennas followed.

Anastasia turned over to her fellow team member, seeing the concerned expression on Leafie made Ana soft as she spoke. “Surprises can happen, good or bad. Who knows, but… I do hope they are okay… maybe your old friends are still there and might be waiting for you… do you have a little promise that you and them remember?” 

Leafie thought for awhile until a memory popped up. “Oh! There is a secret path that we all know. It’s also the home of the grass guardian herself, Virizion. We promised when we reach our final stages, we will become future Guards for Virizion… I honestly hope they’ll remember me…”

Leafie looked saddened with doubt in her mind, until feeling a paw on her head as she looked over to Ana. “If push comes to shove, I’ll do my best to recreate your memory through my illusions… for now, let’s hope they remember a promise.” Anastasia smiled warmly to Leafie, getting Aries’s attention as she smiled warmly.

“I should of asked N to be here… I may not know what they are saying, but I feel comfort already.” Aries’s smile big, that quickly faded as she heard a familiar voice. Turning over to see Lamont and Rui approaching her. “I assume Wes and Michael are gonna make sure the ship is gonna be safe?”

“Yes, just in case Cipher does a secret attack. We even ask a few people if they want in.” Rui spoke softly, as Lola her Sylveon walked next to her and used her ribbons to hold her hand.

“Some may show up, but I thank you for getting me out for air… I’m still worried to see him again…” Lamont roughly spoke, looking a bit tired, but is standing strong to keep going. “I told them we’ll get a head start and we’ll be near the shore…” Lamont looked over to Leafie who in return looked at him with a soft smile. “There is… something I wish to show Leafie… it’s not only her old home…” He walked over to the forest, soon followed by the group…

OK correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like the main 'yin/yang' parallel with Atsushi and Akutagawa is not something like 'this one is bad but secretly has a good side and this one is good but secretly has a bad side'.

I feel like it's more about 'who they are at their core vs who they choose to be'.

At his core Akutagawa is kind and at his core Atsushi is not. But despite this Atsushi tries every day to make the kinder choices and I love him so much for it. He has to work so hard to be good.

He wants to be a bitch SO bad I know he does but he tries his best to help people and be nice (sometimes he fails but that's OK <3)

Atsushi doesn't always WANT to help people, a lot of the time he's selfish and scared, but he does help people anyway. He keeps helping people over and over again. There's still some selfish motivation to it, and his initial motivation for helping people was because the headmaster told him that's all he was worth, but overall he does care about the people he helps and it weighs on him if he fails to save them. And of course, as the series goes on he starts helping people more because he can rather than because he feels like he needs to.

In Akutagawa's case, he's still capable of being kind but his environment led him into being someone who chooses to hurt people. But he's always been a protector at heart. In the start he was bad compared to Atsushi because he was choosing to hurt people and keep the cycle of abuse going. Just like how Atsushi developed in why he saved people, Akutagawa starts to get redeemed when he chooses to not just act on his rage. Not only does he start to spare people, but he speaks more kindly to them (apologising to Higuchi and telling Kyouka he's proud of her). It all culminates into the moment he chooses to help Atsushi and sacrifice himself for him, going back to his core value of being a protector. Even when he's finally revived, he keeps this role in his new position as Aya's Knight.

I kind of see the streaks of white in Akutagawa and the streaks of black in Atsushi not as their 'hidden sides' but as their fundamental selfs. That's who they are at their core, and their main colours (black for Akutagawa and white for Atsushi) are how they're presented to everyone else and how they try to have people see them as.

I have finally finished 2.4 and oh my GOD watching Dan Heng be so protective of his friends nearly killed me, MY HEART.

And yes, the cutscene where he pushes the trailblazer out of the way and even cushions their fall with his own body, but I mean even before that! When he was already trying to protect them and March 7th from Feixiao and Lingsha!!

Because if you watch the dango trio throughout the main quest, you'll notice that they often position themselves in the same way, which is a detail that makes me super happy that Hoyo thought to include- when the three of them aren't evenly spaced, March 7th and the trailblazer tend to gravitate towards each other and stand very close together, frequently side-by-side. And by comparison, Dan Heng usually stands slightly away, and often even slightly behind them, where he can pull on their leashes to wrangle them keep an eye on them.

This is probably a habit learned through experience, since March 7th said during Belobog she is the "queen of unannounced disappearances" fjdksajfkldjsak

And of course at least a little bit of it is just done for like, aesthetic purposes. It's a video game. Things have to look nice for the player. The trailblazer and Dan Heng are the same height, March 7th is a bit shorter, and Yanqing is even smaller. It makes sense to have the trailblazer and Dan Heng stand on the ends, with March 7th and Yanqing in the middle, it just looks nicer and more balanced that way. But still! Even when they're accommodating for Yanqing in this quest, they still all arrange themselves the same way, almost every time!

But this changes after Dan Heng and Yanqing become suspicious of the visitors from the Yaoqing.

The dango trio still stand around relaxed and in their usual manner when they go to the artisanship delve and meet Skott,

but Dan Heng takes notice of Lingsha when she arrives, and he and Yanqing mentioned her specifically when discussing their worries.

Yanqing worrying so much about Jing Yuan got me right in the heart, he's such a good boy WEH

And when the four of them go out to the alchemy delve to meet Lingsha for tea, the pattern breaks. Suddenly Dan Heng is standing right up front, and even walks in and enters the scene before March 7th and the trailblazer to get to Lingsha before them. He stays a step in front of them the whole time, too.

And then when Dan Heng and the trailblazer have to go be interrogated by Feixiao! The same deal! Dan Heng walks in ahead of them and stays in front of them! Noticeably so! Enough that even Feixiao takes note and voices it!

Dan Heng is so so fiercely protective of his companions, and I love it, I adore hyper vigilance in the wake of trauma like this, I'm so excited to see what else he does in 2.5, I hope we either get to see him get fucked up or the trailblazer gets fucked up in his place, I wanna see them run through the meat grinder!!!
