T B Skyen's analysis of AI art. He really explains how artists- or rather artists like myself- feel about AI art. It is impressive how he articulates what I've been trying to for some time.
Check it out please, especially if you're not an artist. Maybe you will learn why most are not happy with it.

There’s something so funny to me about Arcane being such a layered show with all these themes and details to it - but they also have to content with the wild LOL costuming choices like whatever is going on with Vi’s original design. They have to find a way to take it and riff on it and make it intentional and that’s why the pink ruffle detail on her enforcer uniform stands out so much in the trailer, at least to me. They found a way to justify it being there, while still keeping true to the way they’ve designed her for the show which is more rough and tumble butch energy. Can’t wait to find out the reasoning
#you can see later she also has the googles that are also a part of her og design#and if she opens up the enforcer jacket#she’s got the white tank top on under it which sort of mimics#the corset without being an actual corset#feeling like t b skyen rn

Giving credit where it's due, arcane is a culmination of a lot of league of legends short animations over the years. It is unfortunate league has a really bad fanbase because there is a lot of love put into the story and games by developers. And double unfortunately that games like legends of runeterra, ruined king, and convergence also only really get talked about by that fanbase. We do have @/ohnoitstbskyen or TB Skyen on YouTube as a light in the darkness though. Back on topic, you can actually see the glorious evolution and notice a few Easter eggs in the short animations leading up to Arcane, they aren't as polished but if you're interested in the way leading up to that point I recommend a few. Starting with warwick:
youtube
And this one may somewhat contain spoilers for Ekko if you are completely clueless on anything outside of Arcane for him. It probably won't ruin anything for you just a warning in case you are avoiding outside content of him:
youtube
Both of these years before the first season and you can already kind of see how we got to the arcane of today. The blend from the game models to animation and then even further into animation and polishing for arcane. It's so awesome like we had the foundation for a long time and arcane was the artisans finally getting time to build something magnificent.
regardless of being league of legends, arcane still looks like seriously good. that animation is insanely detail oriented and i feel like it’s pushing western visual design trends in an interesting direction. i still particularly like the fight between echo and jinx
#sorry for the long addition but it really is wonderful#if any of my followers decide to check out t b skyen i recommend has renata glasc video she isn't in arcane but it's a fun lol zaun video#arcane spoilers#aaaa i probably should have recommended the darius “breathe” trailer if you liked the ekko jinx fight he isn't in arcane either though#can you tell im normal about this series?#Youtube

i just heard someone on youtube (T B Skyen) say that silco loved jinx but didnt quite know how to love powder, while vi loves powder but doesnt know how to love jinx. and oooof oof ouch yeah
also it got me thinking and obviously jinx and powder arent two different people shes just going by a different name now but its also not baseless to analyze them as different "characters", or what traits of jinx are part of powder, etc. like the animators literally have a trick where they change her facial structure how they animate jinx to show when shes behaving more like powder. shes completely changed who she is, its jinx now powder fell down a well, sat on the jinx chair embraces who she is etc etc
#powder is like jinxs inner child#while jinx is- or was before the chair scene- the persona she puts on where she loves Violence and Chaos and shes Crazy HaHaHaHaHa#so when someone says like. ''jinx is being more powder in this scene'' it means shes regressing into being more childlike because of her#trauma or maybe shes so distressed and emotional that her persona fell apart for a second and the sad child underneath showed through#''silco loves jinx but doesnt know how to love powder'' means he loves and supports her being confident and smart in her inventions and#trying to accept and move on from her past. but hes teeeeerrible at that bc he doesnt want to let powder heal#he just wants her to bury that part of herself#and vi loves and cares for her baby sister so so much but shes terrified and doesnt want to accept the reality of what shes become#i do think vi had a point before tho. powder Was in there and while that doesnt negate jinx she could still reach her#and maybe help her out#idk how true that is after shimmer and silco dying tho. again. chair scene. the persona has fully become who jinx is theres no going back#powder fell down a well#arcane#jinx arcane#powder arcane#ignore me im just brainstorming ive been thinking about this show CONSTANTLY for the past few weeks i have so many thoughts on everyone#im sure this is a conclusion people reached years ago immediately after the show came out but im slow#theres a point between the child powder and the crazy terrorist jinx where the real true her lies#and that point has been getting closer and closer to the jinx side

The Film Theorists' video on Arcane 2 is just... 80% misinformation. 15% misunderstanding. And 5% true info.
Don't watch it if you want to learn the lore from either the series or the Riot games.
Go check the Youtube channels of Necrit, T B Skyen and NickyBoi instead.
#arcane season 2#arcane#arcane s2#how the hell would Arcane impact the non-main skinlines' lore. absolute nonsense from that video#the Void isn't even the only world-ending threat in Runeterra#Bel'Veth SURE WAS AN IMPORTANT CHAMPION HAHAHAHA X'D <- sarcasm

I just realised that a few days ago I sketched true forms for the Lords in Black. While I am not really happy yet, I think I should post the sketches, just to encourage myself to actually work on them, cause people could see em.
These are pretty meh, but it's been a while since I seriously drew something so I think it's fine
The photos themselves are also pretty bad cause I just send them to a friend for criticism and currently can't take new ones
First of Wiggly
Ignore the light and the fact that I tried giving him octopus pupils.
He looks the most like his plushie, cause genuinely I don't think there is much to do with him.
I gave him tentacle legs tho cause his "Oh, you'll hardly miss it. We just want what you cherish most. That's all!" Very strongly reminds me of Ursulas "I'm not asking much, just a token really, a trifle! What I want from you is - your voice."
Now Pokey
Considering that Pokey is my least favourite Lord (cause I hold a grudge, but like in the end, I love all the lords), this is my favourite design of all of them.
I was a lil inspired by Rom, the Vacuous Spider, from Bloodborne.
(btw unrelated, T B Skyens Boss Designs of Bloodborne series on YouTube is really good I was listening to that while drawing all of these)
Next we have Blinky
With Blinky I had the most fucking problems, because I just did not know what to do with him and I didn't just wanna make him into a mass with eyes. So now he's an owl with a bunch of eyes. Ah and 4 wings cause he didn't look supernatural enough
The drawing itself is pretty okay though
Next up Tinky
Can't say much about him, cause that is a goat. That is just a goat. A goat where the front is a skeleton and the back is fine, but still just a goat.
The concept was that his front has fully rotted and the further back along his body you go the less rotted he becomes. But it just doesn't really come across I think
And last but not least Nibbly
My second fav Lord in Black, but I hate this design I made the most.
The design feels all over the place and I tried to follow a little bit of his description from Honey Queen.
It's just not good.
I am a big fan of the chest mouth tho.
The idea was to keep the long neck and give him an emaciated pigs body to symbolise his eternal hunger. Idk man

Chronicles of Roses Devlog 2: Design Notes Lilith
Hello!
This is Li : ).
This devlog is about Lilith, the secondary character of the narrative & lover of Ronya - a witch & holy disciple who is missing when Ronya comes home after a long mission, prompting a new journey to find her and discover the city’s sacrificial plot. For ease of credibility, all portraits and art of Lilith in this post is by Li.
This city is set in a world where witchcraft is looked upon as a great sin, and witch heritage (largely passed down by blood) is inherently seen as lesser or vile by the cityfolk and non-witches. Lilith’s features mark her as a witch clearly - her white eyes & hair are abnormal, and she easily becomes a target for persecution under the public eye.
Despite her blasphemous heritage, she was taken in by the Holy Prophet for unknown reasons, and has been raised as a dear daughter to her. Her markings & hair define her as a witch from the coven of life & nature, although her exact origins are largely unknown.
The events of the narrative largely exclude Lilith’s presence, as she is the passive hidden character, missing & hidden away from Ronya, but she is not written or designed to be a passive character. She is a scholar in her own right, & does not shy away from the pursuit of knowledge.
She’s been designed as a character who is not ashamed or afraid of her defining features - her hair is well taken care of, and she wears a distinct purple & gold palette of clothes, compared to the city’s concepted silvery blue tones. This contrast of gold & silver in particular is a strong foundation for the difference in visual language between the persecuted witches & ‘the holy’, as we currently call them, and presents a thematic switch from the usual modern association of silver, albedo, and the moon (although this will be touched on later) with femininity/magic.
Her name is taken directly from the daemon Lilith, who is commonly considered the first female demon, in particular for her refusal to obey. Lilith is written as a largely quiet and gentle character, but her quiet visual and scholarly defiance is intended to be a parallel to the daemon Lilith’s demonisation. Owls also tend to have an association with Lilith and the devil/evil in general - the owl is an early concept in Lilith’s development, but her eyes and hair already give off an owl-like appearance.
The iterations of her clothes in current concepts are largely dresses, cloaks, and belts/bags - she’s a scholar and an apothecary, unlike Ronya, and requires no armour. This is where the obligatory Dark Souls mention goes:
Some of her designs take from the witch of Izalith clothes in Dark Souls I. The obvious direct naming of them as witches, and the fact that they are a mostly all female faction are big influences for this reference. But the witches of Izalith can also be read as an interpretation of the medieval & gothic interpretation of the female body & female sexuality.
T B Skyen has a wonderful video on the boss design of Chaos Witch Quelaag in particular, where they take a similar reading on Quelaag’s design in the same game. She is largely considered a Dragon Pass easter egg from Miyazaki for many fans, but there is merit in reading her narrative existence and her obviously seductive visual design/cutscene as a commentary on the ‘eviling’ of desirable women - this is similar to a load of modern analyses of historical witch hunts, and why they primarily targeted women.
The narrative we are making doesn’t necessarily delve into sexism, whether historical or contemporary, but the use of witches and witchcraft in any story cannot exist without this context - for us, understanding the witch hunts of the medieval and gothic ages is fundamental to the construction of this entire fictional world.
Lilith is a personal favourite of mine - I am a massive Souls fan (Elden Ring in particular), and a large part of my love for those games is the delicate design of creatures and characters that are strong or otherwise beholders of a new age.
Miyazaki’s infamous bare feet fetish is a deliberate choice that I think is a strong visual - we as humans have not chosen to be barefooted for thousands of years, and a lot of us largely cringe at the idea of our bare feet touching pavement, or even natural rock/soil. Divine and immortal characters in Miyazaki’s games often have their feet visible & unprotected, and I think it very clearly separates them visually from the mortal and human. They are a deliberate show of vulnerability, and an indication that human vulnerability is beneath their weaknesses by a long shot.
Lilith’s toes are NOT out in her design, and will by no means show up anywhere, but the approach of visual delicacy and vulnerability is something that I value a lot with her. Miyazaki’s dogs obsession is just a very funny and (I think) very poignant example of what that sort of design approach looks like.
(I still think Miyazaki choosing only women to bare the feet of is comical and a bit telling, but this is my disclaimer that I am not a foot fetishist. I beg you do not come to that conclusion from this. PLEASE.)
(Editor’s Note - Scarlett: I do not believe Li for a second and I felt it necessary to announce that I do not have a foot fetish and had nothing to do with this blog post <3)
Ultimately, I love Lilith’s initial design, and her story as a determined quiet scholar - I have always loved the quiet important characters in stories, and working on her development is a joy.
This devlog was posted a couple days late - apologies! The next one will be about the Ursula, the Holy Prophet of this fictional city, and her connection to these two characters so far.

Honkai Star Rail Character Design Opinions that nobody asked for - Seele
I've been watching a lot of T B Skyen lately. Character design is my new passion and we're gonna start this off with Seele
What the fuck is this.
The ONLY things I like about this outfit are the butterfly-themed ribbons/straps on her right leg and the Wildfire armband with the trailing, antennae-like ends... and the scarf thing, which I would like for myself.
Like, did the developers not look at her ingame? Compare her to anyone else around? She looks like someone cracked a glowstick in the Belobog Underground. I admit I haven't done extensive research on her but she's just a normalass human, right? Why does the INSIDE OF HER HAIR GLOW?! WHY DOESN'T ANYONE ELSE'S?!?!
She's also suffering from Star Rail Mid-Sized Female Model Dress, which will be called Mid Dress from here on out. It's the same shaped breast cups, body hugging dress that relies entirely on a hyper-detailed texture to end up conveying nothing.
What was the direction here? It's not outrageously horny, it's not Rough and Gritty, it's not super technological, she just... looks like she stumbled in from a different game. The bright colors are incredibly out of place in the impoverished Underground. Maybe they were going for Butterflies Being Colorful? But even then, THIS BITCH GREW UP UNDERGROUND?! WHEN DID SHE SEE A BUTTERFLY?!?! She gives Too Tough to be Girly vibes in her personality and then proceeded to base her entire sense of style off of a mythological creature.
I think a moth theme would've worked better, or even a slightly less... electric purple butterfly. Her outfit could look like it came from the same universe as everyone else in the Underground with sensible leather and natural colors, but have those iridescent splashes of color in her armband and neckpiece. Or maybe some blindingly bright purple boots, because poor people really value their shoes and it IS something someone like Seele would spend a little too much money on! (Source: am poor, raised by the poor). Accent the color rather than have me having to turn the brightness down on my TV every time she comes onscreen.
I just think it's important for Seele to stand out, but not to the alien degree she does. The Underground is her Home. She's an incredibly important member of Wildfire, one that will put her own needs aside for others. You cannot convince me she would spend the money to dress like this aldkjs
She's the Underground Princess to Bronya's Overworld and they should complement each others' styles: Both very ostentatious, one understated and regal and one very, VERY loud, but not to the point that Seele looks like a cosplayer in her own home
I also think it's a wasted opportunity to include the things that makes the Underground so unique. Some Underground wildlife themes, maybe? GEOMARROW?! If she's the Underground's princess, why does she look like she's from a different planet? I think they clung too hard to keeping her recognizable from the other Honkai.
Also as much as I bitched about the Mid Dress, her silhouette is fine. She's got enough going on with the skirt and armband that she stands out. She's also excellent in motion, which every Star Rail character seems to be. These models were really not meant to just stand there. She finally takes on that roguish, knee-cap shattering badass vibe when she moves.
Anyway I rate this a 2/10 solely because it at least sorta tries to keep up the butterfly theme and the Wildfire armband is incorporated in a fun and interesting way. Also I'm a slut for a scythe.

There are also some fantastic video sources for DS lore! Vaatividya is a classic. SmoughTown has a lot of amazing ones, and they're very long. Perfect to sit back and draw to, imo. He just posted a 13 HOUR Elden Ring video, and it was only part 1. T B Skyen is also great, he does the "Boss Designs of X" series, and tends to cover the visuals of different characters. Personally, I also really like The Bestiary, who did a "Ranking Dark Souls Bosses Strength by Lore" series, which had a segment on the lore of every boss in the games. Hawkshaw is also great.
Cool, I'll look into it in the future!
