Christopher Wolfe just cannot catch a break, can he?

Ink and Bone starts slow, it's okay-ish. He just has to teach for half of the book or so. But then it's off to a war zone, two of his postulants die, the travel back is very eventful, and then he gets arrested and question about Thomas' printing press.

Then in Paper and Fire alone he - relives some very painful memories - goes back to Rome - into the prison - INTO THE VERY TORTURE CHAMBER (just passing through) - then off to the Iron Tower with death looming outside - finds his research in the Black Archives, only to see it go up in flames in front of his eyes - into another war zone - then finally to the Burner capital

Ash and Quill starts off in said Burner capital, which is of course also a war zone. There he's imprisoned, NIC GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED and they barely make it out alive, only to be shipped to a slightly nicer prison, where he's then betrayed by the Brightwells and send to prison, but in Alexandria this time.

In Smoke and Iron he is, of course, in prison. But hey, he's only going a little mad. When he makes it out of there, he's almost immediately heading into another death trap. (But Nic called him amore mio and is proud of him for beheading a dragon automaton, so that's nice.)

Sword and Pen at least doesn't hold another prison, but his son is slowly dying from poison, his other kids are also in danger and the whole city is under attack. That's not exactly the definition of a relaxing holiday. And it ends with his daughter burning to death.
